  • There are a lot of ways to apply a whitewash finish to wood. Here are my favorite ways to whitewash oak, cedar, poplar, and fir. I used grout to whitewash cedar. I used Varathane to whitewash oak. I used diluted RUST-OLEUM chalked paint mixed with water to white wash poplar and fir. This video is sponsored by RUST-OLEUM®

I refinished a 40yo birch wood dresser with varathane white wash and it looks way better than the yellow finish it previously had. You can see subtle amounts of pinks blues and purples on the birch.

Great video I love white washing the background on my signs. A lot of times I “paint” on a vinegar base that I keep in a jar with steel wool. It gives it a grey/rust base and works well with the white.

Regarding the sound level -- if you right click on the video, there is an option at the bottom of the popup menu for "Stats for Nerds". It will show you how above or below UA-cam's "loudness" target is. In this video's case, it is -21.8dB. Considering that UA-cam recommends videos to be -3dB to -5dB below the target... well, that's _extremely_ quiet.
Most audio editors these days should be able to handle "loudness" pretty easily. It will be either "LUFS" or "loudness" in at least Audition and DaVinci Resolve Fairlight. The key is to set the target loudness / LUFS to -14 and then try to stay -3dB to -5dB below that target after normalization.
There are _many_ ways to hit a target loudness level (not volume!!) without it being built into the editing app. The most brute force would likely be to just upload the video to UA-cam in private mode, check out the "Stats for Nerd", and then just add enough audio gain to being it up to -3. In this video's case, you could add 17dB or 18dB of gain and then it would sound roughly as loud as every other video.

Regular grout will crack over time when applied to wood, yes it will stick to it, but it doesn’t permanently bond, you’re probably better off using grout caulk which is silicone based, and should bond to the wood permanently
