Can't believe it's been 10 years since I uploaded this nail tutorial. It was the very first video that I ever had go truly viral! I could tell from my viewership analytics within the first 24 hours that something was seriously up. I remember that I quickly followed this video with the 'comic strip nails' using the same technique to keep the algorithm momentum going. Whenever I think back to key moments in CutePolish's history, this video really stands out as one of the most pivotal moments... my channel really took off and snowballed in views and subscribers after I posted it. I just want to answer some FAQ that's in the comments.
1) can I use water?
No because it won't transfer the ink onto your nails
2) if I print something out and use it instead of newspaper will it work?
No because the paper will be too thick for the words to transfer. Newspaper paper is thin so it's easier to transfer words onto your nail.
you can print something out and use it, it will just take longer for the paint to transfer to your nails (:
i believe it might be even better that the newspaper, because the paint is stronger and darker.
I tried it before and it didn't work. :P

Those are so neat. I think I will try this with with other papers and see if it works. I have some thin scrapbook paper that has a cute heart design which would be cute for Valentine's Day if it worked. Not sure that will work, but worth a try. It looks neat this way too.

Probably, but it would have to be matte printer ink (as opposed to magazine shiny print) Just try it! Im sure something will work!

I tried it I failed the paper was on my finger nail
how did you do that
I used a base coat of white and then used vinegar instead of the alcohol and it worked perfectly (the effect is awesome and everyone can't work out how you did it)

Just tried this and they came out awesome! So easy.
I did this and I used a light blue color instead of a light gray it actually looked really cool!

For anyone like me who doesn't have rubbing alcohol and water didnt work well, I used hand sanitiser (thanks Covid) and this worked really well :)

yes . i've tried . use the same technique . use warm water . the only difference is that you have got to press the newspaper harder and for about a minute . it works cause i've tried :D

Years later, I'm back to learn it again!
I just did this. First hand was a bit dodgy, the nail polish came off in patches. So on the other hand, I let the polish dry for over an hour and it worked fine.
I used surgical spirit, it's the as rubbing alcohol just a different name here in the UK.
