I love how Viper plays rn. It's on the easier side but all the oGCDs keep my brain active and for positionals I feel like the job has one of the simpler version we've seen. if 3rd GCD is red then rear. If 3rd GCD is green then flank. The rotation flows really well and the animations are awesome. I'd hate to see them simplifying the job because of the more casual side of players that don't want to bother learning the basics of job but if they do end up going through I'm probably just going to go back to tank and live with what was in the back of my head

although i agree that jobs not having an identity is bad, i don't think making all jobs complex is the way to make them unique or have their own identity.

Having a mix of jobs with different playstyles is the way to go, some would be more complicated some more simple because at the end of the day, its a game and people like different things. Having all jobs try to cater to one playstyle exists solely to isolate the other players who prefer other styles, whereas in a game with as many jobs as FF14 and a game likely to get even more in the future, different styles could and should exist imo

I have only gotten viper to 90. Leveled mostly through roulettes before spamming Ktisis Hyperboreia and The Aitiascope to finish up hitting 90.
The job is really simple. keep up buffs, hit the glowing abilities and your 95% there. As for positionals. I like them if gives me something else to think about while executing the rotation. I like dancing 1 step to the left or right to get that extra damage. And if I am feeling lazy I don't have to do it. Its just a 50-60 potency lost. Its busy and i love it.

The only thing I can say after playing through msq and beating Extreme 1 for Dawntrail is that I love Viper as it is now. Anyone who doesn't like it should just play a different job

I tend to agree, in a game with as many jobs as FF14, not every job has to or should appeal to every single person out there

I think its dreadwinders that's the "issue" 2 back to back positionals with 2ogcds after each of them, twice back to back (because lets be honest the average casual player sees 2 charges and uses them back to back) can make it feel a bit busy.

It's almost 100% dreadwinder cause I doubt most people even realize there are positionals attached to it, but I also don't think a job should be changed because a completely unintended and suboptimal way to play is unintended and suboptimal imo. Though I can't say I'd be the saddest seeing those positionals go the way of the dodo either

@@JMulls You know, I said this on the reddit, and got downvoted to oblivion. Specifically, I said that Dreadwinder's OGCD spamfest is a bit much for PC players, and that it feels like it was designed for gamepad (With Xbox being one of the big features of Dawntrail, I'm not ruling it out as being meant as a feature FOR console players).

I ignore positional. I use True North in most cases. Because I hate having to hit a specific section on a mob. Especially when half the time, you cannot positional yourself correctly because you are constantly moving or just can't get behind a mob. People don't like positionals. They never have. But I think the big problem is, you have to use positionals to get your buff which is stupid. Especially when all other buffs come from a normal ability or something else that doesn't require a specific location. I think that is the problem. If they got rid of having to hit the flank of an npc to get the buff, I think it would be fine. Just give us the buff when we get to the ability like with other jobs. But don't remove positionals completely.

I'd be down for removing the positionals, tho I don't mind it as a mechanic, if the job became faster or got some new mechanic personally. Though you don't need to hit the positionals to get the dreadwinder buffs from hunters and swiftskins coil, you just get extra potency on those attacks themselves

Viper is not hard at all.

Skills literally highlight what you should press and even color code the positionals. Flank and hind are even in their names, class is almost braindead easy already and doesn't even have to juggle party utility.
If taking a few moments to memorize the dreadwinder positionals is too much for someone they need to pick a different job and that's okay. Not every job has to be for everyone.

    Sounds like a skill issue

It is a skill issue for sure. If you can't push buttons in the right locations even though it literally tells you, quit the game.

Why are SE catering to the laziest players in the community? If you cant be bothered to spend 10-20 mins learning a new class at a training dummy and would rather go online to complain how hard you think it is, this game isnt for you. This is really disappointing news. Viper is a simple but well balanced class. I really hope SE reconsider...
