      @youtousim 6 днів тому

      @@inspirations365 In both cases, we had a practical motivation. Namely the new targets being our best hope to new information. This time, we're just curious.
      Also in the Loporit example, the game at least acknowledges the absurdity of the situation. The thing is, that it would not have taken much to at least acknowledge the situation. Like giving us a third option besides "Yes!" and "Yes, absolutely!" there could be "What about that gate we just discovered" and the simple answer: "We can't open it yet, dummy!" Would have been enough to give the player at least the illusion of agency.
      Thirdly: How does similar stuff making no sense before make it any better now?

      It's like showing the elevator entrance to amaurot and then having us go through the trolley arc before we get back there lol, also multiple cutscenes could be done via gameplay using vehicles, turrets or playing as other characters, but instead we just sit there and watch like visual novel.

    One thing I wished for Wuk Lamat was for the voice actor to play into the into the race some more. She's a lion girl, so why not have a bit of fun with it?
    For example, when the Alpaca spat at her, the "Aaargh" could have ended with a disgusted growl. Nothing that needs to be prominent but personal flares that would make the character more lively and at the very least more entertaining to listen to.

    I totally agree with this why are we sitting there watching Gulool Ja Ja get killed when we could solo Zoraal Ja right then and there? Like we were even with him way back in level 92 and now at 96 we've long surpassed him but they have us all just go to Gulool Ja Ja? I question why we even bothered going on this journey when we don't get to do anything cool. This story is the Raiders of the Lost Ark gimmick where whether the WoL is there or not it doesn't matter and things will have played out the same.

    Wuk Lamat goes from mildly annoying to just looking like an incompetent moron, to becoming the most grating character in all of FF, not just 14 for me. The writing was horrible, the voice acting is bad and to say she overstays her welcome in the story is an understatement. By the end of the MSQ I was skipping her scenes because I was so over her. This is the first expansion and first character, that has annoyed me to the point where I care more about hearing less of her than I do about potentially missing a lore drop.

    I liked the early world building part, I loved the Texas zone because it was something I wish we had more of. Afterwards I was tired of Wuk Lamat, despite her voice actress in German being incredibly good. Zone 6's later half was also one of my favorites, but he finale was pretty much ruined for me.
    I would have liked it more if we had traveled with Erenvile, Krile and Estinien learning about the land and its people in our own pace and met Wuk Lamat and the other contesters once in a while helping them out, building bridges with each of them. As for the death of Gulool Ja Ja, it would have been better if it was a solo duty where we fought outside, holding off the enemies, strong officers, etc... and then afterwards we get a cutscene "Meanwhile in the Palace" and then we see what happened inside and that we as the WoL weren't there to stop it.

    (spoilers)I understand the dislike for maybe the slower tone of the initial half of dawntrail but to call Wuk Lamat boring or unfit to rule is not a fair analysis of the character in my opinion. The whole point of the first part of the story was to enrich you in different aspects of Tural’s culture, and to teach Wuk Lamt on how diverse her culture was so she be able to rule and appreciate all aspects of her people lives. To be fair I do agree that maybe at the start Wuk Lamat seemed inadequate when it came to battle or doing anything without us(to be fair kinda of a dumb point since we need to be there as the player character unless u wanted to play as Wuk Lamat the whole time) but the second half of the first part of the story helped demonstrate her greatest strength which was the love for her people and her willingness to work with them to build a better nation unlike Zoraal Ja who failed cause of his unwillingness to to work with or try to understand his culture. I do think her fights later help also demonstrate her physical prowess, like a rlly cool instance where she fights a certain someone who deserved it, and once again in the last trail where she has one of the coolest entrances in a trail I’ve seen. If I were to criticize anything I wish they could have mixed both parts of the story earlier on (even though I thought the passage of time from Mayan civilization to western to futuristic to be cool) and that maybe the writers showed some of Wuk Lamat’s strengths at the beginning of the story(even though I enjoyed watching her grow to the great leader she became).

  • @SilverNightbane

    The thing I didn't like about Dawntrail was the MSQ, ironically. It really boils down to if you like Wuk Lamat or not and sadly, even after finishing MSQ, all I felt was "Yeah no, Zero felt like a better character and she was flat as hell."
    Everything else about Dawntrail is great. The zones, the music, the dungeons, the trials. The whole "healer strike" is pretty pointless given how balls to the walls crazy the mechanics bosses have in Dawntrail dungeons, it's so much fun and you can really die from flubbing 1-2 mechanics alone.

    • @JMulls
      @JMulls  8 днів тому +3

      I agree, I've loved every boss I've fought so far in Dawntrail and actually had to pay attention and learn mechanics even in dungeons with trusts, I love that personally. And yeah, i've always had a softer spot for Zero than most others I feel. I was always under the impression that she is going to be one of the crucial characters going forward and I was fine with a slowish burn for her because the scenes like in Garlemald, while being kind of basic let's be honest, felt heartwarming because they played on stuff we already experienced and cared about so transitioning those lessons to Zero felt more natural imo than Wuk Lamat's various shonen esque "power of friendship" yap sessions in each zones, but the more I delve into Heritage found, the more she's not as annoying and grating as she was in the first half for me, still don't like the character and am not looking forward to seeing more of her though, but I feel with a character like Zero, all the setup for her is basically done so we can just go full steam ahead when they bring her back into the story

    The thing to understand is that it's a Japanese summer vacation. It 100% follows how those stories and real life experiences go, down to collecting the dumb stamps along every step. They are far more structured around seeing specific sights instead of a european/western style vacation, which is all about following whims and a lack of structure.

    • @Mephiidross
      @Mephiidross 9 днів тому

      Interesting point. I do agree, and for all the people asking where our vacation was: it's the entire first half of just touring the country and having a good, low-stakes time. The Rite of Succession is our vacation, because putting someone on a throne is just the casual display of power we're capable of now.
      On personal level, I really enjoyed doing all the sidequests in the areas as they popped up. There's some good lore and enjoyable scenes and perhaps it gave me that break from the MSQ to make everything flow nicer.

    • @JMulls
      @JMulls  9 днів тому +2

      I get that but I couldn't care less how accurate it is if the actual story beats are largely uninteresting and rely on telling not showing while the dialogue is repetitively written. At the end of the day, it's a video game and you need something interesting to happen, now that I've gotten to zone 5 tho, I am getting those interesting things, just it took way too long for engaging stuff to consistently happen and for them to show things happening instead of just yapping a bunch of history lessons back to back.

    I have so many gripes with DT
    I was expecting ARR 2.0, slow pacing, maybe a little boring as my WoL went incognito in a SOLO trip, doing menial stuff for the first level or so but discovering interesting things, and people along the way. I also hoped for a little of clarity in stuff like, do we still have the Echo? How strong we are now that Hydaelyn is no more? The Echo things was even worse when Kryle got to sense something but my WoL didn't?
    Instead, I got to be just an animated wallpaper, standing around, noding, and smiling. My WoL is a male Au Ra, smiling is not his forte
    I stopped paying attention to the scenary or reading quests after a while, and then started skipping anything I could because I was bored out of my mind but, then how to know if this trash really improves later on as some people say?
    So I'm not playing DT anymore, I'll do old content until my sub rans out
    I'm mad because even if reliable people tells me it improves later on, and it's worth getting back, the long boring part will stay forever, and this is not a free trial, I paid for this garbage

      The WoL is super powerful, if you pay good attention to the details of the story, basically, the WoL doesn't need Echo anymore (he has it, remember he still sees visions), instead what the WoL has is Dynamis and that's something that he learned how to use it in the Endsinger fight. Now you might ask: why hasn't he used it? It's the plot, the WoL is super strong now and he needs to be nerfed somehow by making him NOT using his powers.
      The whole Dawntrail story could've been soloed by the WoL. The only menace was the final boss since it was in a virtual dimension where she had full control of everything. Other than that Gulool Ja ja? the WoL was being polite right there. Zoraal Ja? he could've been killed easily by the WoL. Instead...the WoL just played along with Wu lamat since it's her story, not ours.

    The story is fine, nothing spectacular, but it's good. What kills the first half of the story is that the story is ALL ABOUT Wuk Lamat and the Scions of course, with US being just Wuk Lamat personal body guard. Other than that, the story is fine and much better than Stormblood or ARR in general.
    I think they should focus more on the WoL since it was SUPPOSED to be the WoL's get away vacation, but instead we became like a third character (even npcs barely recognized us in the story or talk to us). Instead this is the story of WUK LAMAT path to ascencion with Erenville being the secondary main character and the Scions getting the spotlight whenever the former mentioned are not around.

    In fact; I truly believe that Square absolutely needs to give the players a full and sincere apology about what they did with the MSQ for an expansion we all paid for.
    If I don’t get assurance from Square that they have decided to drop everything they did in this expac and go in an entirely different direction with a new story, I just am not going to bother playing anymore.
    I have no faith in this story and these writers that wrote this. If they are doing the Alliance Raid, the extreme trials and the Savage tier- yeah you all can enjoy this crap. I am good, and square got me for my time and money enough.

    I really enjoyed Wuk Lamat. Reminds me of Naruto and Luffy. A positive force thats then tested in the second half. The first half of the story reminds me of some classic films like the great race. Its comical and fun but still fines ways to scratch at issues beneath its surface to explore some darker issues. I will say that it did feel like it dragged on a bit, but that might be on me. Im used to modern cinematic story telling which is to get to the plot points as quick as possible, and it often kept me from enjoying the deep aspects of the story. I mean who can really say they did all the side quest content as they leveled in this modern era of meta gaming.

    I think people set really bizarre expectations for DT after seeing S9 and the trailer. Imo the pacing for the first half was perfect, it gave time for new characters to breath and allowed me to care about the four contestants plus Galool ja ja. I never expected to care about mamool ja characters but DT pulled it off.
    With Wuk Lamat, I was 100% of the same opinion going into DT, she would never make a good leader etc etc but they did a really great, realistic job of building her up from an admittedly pathetic leader to the only person in the running I could ever see being dawnservant save for maybe koana lol.
    Shalooani was my favorite part of the entire expansion I think because it was just pure WoL adventure for the first time (save for part of 6.1) in AGES. Wanting a payoff with the golden city immediately again just seems like a victim of strange expectations.
    I know you're only just getting to the last half but the pacing imo gets significantly faster to the point where it suffers. Very cool battles and music though!

      I mean I dont blame people for having weird expectations, the dev team promised a "vacation episode", exploring the new world and going back to our adventuring roots, as well as some possible conflict between the scions over the trials, but like none of that happened.
      -The Vacation Episode we were promised is abandoned fairly quickly and the final quarter
      retreads way too much ground from a previous expansion
      -We only get to explore on our own without some big dumb cat on a leash for ONE short zone. (Funnily enough my fav one of the lot) The rest of the time she never leaves us alone until some actual work needs to be done then she randomly farts off waiting to take the credit when the WoL gets back from what ever busy work the devs decided needs to be done to stretch out this MSQ play time.
      -The conflict between the scions they promised amounted to Thancred causing a cave in on the fist dungeon then after that we were constantly teaming up till Koana got fed up of trying to be an important character in Dawntrail and just let his attention hog of a sister take over.
      as for Wuk Lamat shes literally the same character she was at the start, she didn't change or grow everyone else around her were forced to accept HER toddler level views of the world, she made the whole expansion MSQ a slog for me. Pushing my character into the background as nothing more than a babysitter was infuriating to say nothing of the bullshit she pulls in the final Trial to not even allow me to have the final boss to myself.
      The one positive I can really say about this expansion so far is the actual Zone/Dungeon and Trial design was fun, and the music was great as always. But there needs to be some serious course correction going forward for the MSQ , lets hope the patches push Wuk Lamat far into the background and let some other people shine, removing the Stormblood writer would also be a good first step.

    Dawntrail pretty much feels like ARR all over again. It's a slow burn, as ARR was as there are expositions to every major plot, and not just the world building, but to the overall arch of the storyline, as we can forsee where the story is going. And I agree with you....first half, to me, was quite boring and ridiculously long and arduous. I felt like I was "returning to the Waking Sands" all over again by doing all those "chores" for Wuk Lamat. The 2nd half felt more in line with the better parts of Stormblood and I really think it picked up storywise. So completely agree with how Dawntrail came to be. Plus, I'm not sure if Square Enix's involvement with Sweet Baby Inc has anything to do with it, but it focused way too much on Wuk Lamat rather than the Scions and the WoL. Also Ishikawa-san did not write 7.0. Someone on her writing team wrote 7.0. She is just spearheading the writing team. Wuk Lamat is the new Minfilia. There, I said it. And we all know how much everyone hated Minfilia.
