The little girl they got to play Cooper’s daughter was WAY TOO ADORABLE. She looked terrified do well.
All the main characters have been created for the show, as has the plot; it's just a story set in the same universe as the games! You wouldn't really get more out of this if you watched a walkthrough, especially since you make your own character and the games have different endings depending on your actions. That said, the show's spot on with depicting how it feels to play a Fallout game, with all of them having a serious main story and some truly dark shit, but otherwise being delightfully goofy to the point you could easily argue they're comedies as much as they are action/adventure/horror/political thriller and so on.
Gotcha! Thanks for explaining and honestly I'll probably still watch a walk though when I'm done just to get a better idea of the games. This might be one I can play if it's not tooooooo scary lol I tried The Last of Us but I can't take things chasing after me 😭
@@abi_corinne The upside of this is that the games and the series are each standalone stories all set in the same world… so you won’t spoil the series if you go dig into walkthroughs of the games and vis versa.
The first two games are set in roughly the same region as the series, but decades earlier than the series. 3, New Vegas, and 4 are closer to the series in terms of timeline, but they’re set elsewhere in the country (in the Capital Wasteland, the Mojave Wasteland, and the New England Commonwealth, respectively).
I wpuld say you might get more info on the factions and the game world itself
@@abi_corinne95% of the walkthrough would be the player scavenging old buildings for desk fans and aluminum cans and then trying to manage their inventory to see what they can get rid of to make room for more desk fans. It’s basically a recycling simulator.
@@abi_corinneI haven’t really played the game. Years ago I played a bit of the first game.
It helps to understand the basic tropes of these types of games. Things like med packs that restore your character’s health and repair injuries (and in this game there’s also rad-away, which counteracts the effects of radiation.)
And you probably know about broader tropes like side quests and final level boss monsters. You don’t need to know these things to enjoy the show, but you might enjoy the show more.
One thing I would avoid is learning all the lore about the different vaults. Wait until after the finale.
Vaults 31, 32, and 33 are the only known connected vaults. All the vaults in the games are independent and spread across the country
In case you don't know, this tv-show isn't based on a single game's storyline. Each game has a different protagonist in a slightly different part of post-apocalyptic America. Fallout 1 & 2 are set in California, 3 is set in Washington DC, 4 is set in Boston, Fallout 76 is set in Virginia and Fallout: New Vegas is set in Nevada.
The main story of this show is set a decade after the most recent game, so at best having played the older games gives you a better perspective on the timeline of this setting.
Okay cool! Thanks for the breakdown! Are any of these characters in the game, more specifically the Ghoul
@@abi_corinneNone of the characters they've introduced so far are from any of the games.
@@abi_corinne Nope. Though there are other ghouls around, including cowboy and cowgirl ghouls funny enough. Basically every character in this series is original with only a few exceptions, and even then it's a blink and you'll miss it cameo.
@@abi_corinne Btw, if you ARE interested in learning the broadstrokes of the fallout games story and timeline, Gamespot made a good video explaining the plot of each fallout game in chronological order.
I would perhaps suggest watching it after finishing the season though, as it contains some spoilers for the show.
The video is called "The Complete FALLOUT Timeline Explained!"
✨West✨ Virginia acktually lol
The thing you have to know about relating the show to the games is that Lucy is basically a typical Fallout 3 protagonist, Cooper is basically a typical Fallout New Vegas protagonist, and Maximus is a typical Fallout 4 protagonist. This should give you a good idea on the "vibe" of each of these games.
I was looking for this comment 👏🏾 thank you!
And Norm feels like a Fallout 1 protagonist lol
While the Ghoul isn't a character in any of the games there are several amazing and charming Ghouls in the games. Top fave after Walton's Ghoul is John Hancock from Fallout 4 who is very charming and also romanceable.
Love! I'm looked forward to potentially meeting more ghouls in this. I'll have to check out this Hancock fellow 👀
I cannot remember her name for the life of me, but the lady in fallout 3 who is making the wasteland survival guide and turns into a ghoul if you blow up megaton was always my favorite! ^_^
@@smashbrandiscootch719 Moira Brown. Absolutely love her.
Walton is a dad, he does not play games, but his son plays Skyrim, so he knows that. I never knew of him before, but he seems like a genuinely nice dude.
He's actually pretty prolific, he just usually flies under the radar. He was in Justified, The Hateful Eight, The Shield, Ant-Man, Django Unchained, and he even played a trans woman on Sons of Anarchy. Hopefully this show gets him the recognition he deserves, he really is a fine actor.
This isn't spoilers, just background - The Fallout universe takes place in an alternative timeline that diverges from our own after WW2. In the Fallout universe, the transistor and microchip aren't invented until much much later and the culture is kind of stuck in the 1950s - 60s which is why all the tech looks retro. Instead, they go all in on nuclear energy. Also, rather than the Soviet Union being the US's main antagonist, it is China. The Great War (the nuclear world war) happens in October 2077.
Thanks for the background info! I like the concept of this game. Depending if I get scared watching this I might try the game 😅
@@abi_corinne You might enjoy the game. It's not a game where horror/being scared is the focus of the game, like Silent Hill. There are scary creatures in the game, but unlike Silent Hill, you are fully free to just run away or leverage overwhelming force against those creatures to just kill them.
Apparently the Vault 33 motto is: "If you can't keep it in your pants, keep it in the family.".
I’ve never experienced it, but “kissing cousins” is a thing in many cultures. But second cousins is the incest taboo’s limit.
I don’t know how far “cousin stuff” goes in Vault Culture. It could just be innocent kissing. Or it could be more. The concern seems to be about reproductive sex, which is likely the real factor behind the incest taboos of humanity. (I mean it obviously is.)
👏🏾😂
@@MarcosElMalo2 According to Fallout wiki, casual intimate relationship between cousins are permitted but marriage and pregnancy is not, in Vault 33. Incest/Taboo stuff may differ vault to vault because I remember that one vault had all women but one man, and another with one woman and all men from the start for experiments.
I remember playing fallout as a teen and my little bro would always watch me trek (and die) across the wasteland.
Come this show, me and my bro started pointing out all the refferences like we were kids again.
Now he's bought F4, while i watch & guide him throughout the wasteland. Fun times were havin.
😊
A lot of the closer stuff is practical effects. Can work a treat when done right!
The show was developed with assistance from the company so Lore from this will likely be cannon going forward, but I don't know if any characters from the earlier games will show up. (I'm only on ep2). Love the reaction!!
Good to know thanks! I'm excited to jump into ep 2 today 😍
I think it's fantastic. I know a few people that are really into the games think some things were retconned in a bad way, but most of my experience is Fallout 4 and I'm really enjoying the show. It feels like the game to me. It really captures the gore, humor and weirdness.
Should check out Yellowjackets, Ella was amazing in it.
Oh yay glad you're covering this.
If you have to pick one gameplay video to watch, I'd say watch something from Fallout: New Vegas. It's the one that's most relevant to the events in the show and will help place a few things. Fallout 1 and 2 are set on the west coast, but are very old school (1990s vintage) so top down, basic graphics, no voice dialogue etc. Probably not all that interesting to watch. Fallouts 3 & 4 are more modern but set on the east coast, so events are less like what we see in the series. A lot of what you'll see in the series is based around stuff that happens in New Vegas. It's also one of the best reviewed, and while a bit dated by modern standards, was made between 3 and 4 and is a fully 3d, open world, voiced game.
I should also note that the show is canonical to the game universe, so it fits in to the events in the game series. It also does a fantastic job of channeling the aesthetic and feeling of the game. The humour, characters, gore, retro-50s sci-fi meets nuclear post apocalyptic look is all spot on.
Thank you! I'll check out New Vegas 😍
@abi_corinne the show is in that area but the show is actually more similar to fallout 4.
@@hardcase-69 It really isn't, though? Beyond that, as I said in my original post, the locations, organizations, events and some of the people are all related more closely to FNV (and FO1&2) due to proximity. You'd get way more context for the show by focusing on those.
I love the fact that you know who Matt Berry is. Did you ever see his show Snuff Box?
This is a great show. Every episode answers questions but leaves you with more. You’re right, it’s very intriguing.
The other thing I like is that there’s a deeper meaning under the plot. Lucy is good, but how will she keep her goodness as she passes through an evil world? Will she change? Will she change others?
Maximus is more of a normal person. He is morally ambiguous, sometimes having impulses towards good and sometimes having not so good impulses.
The Ghoul is a fallen good person. The most intriguing thing about him is how and why he had fallen. But he’s so much fun to watch being a badass.
My reaction to The Ghoul is similar to my initial reaction to Goodfellas, getting caught up in the logic of their criminal world and rooting for the bad guys.
My initial reaction to Lucy was the opposite. Her naive goodness seems so dumb and she seems so unprepared for surviving in the hellscape of Fallout.
I know you’re going to enjoy this show and its twists and turns. Trust the writers. They’ll tell you what you need to know when you need to know it (if you pay attention). And maybe you’ll appreciate the moral dimension like I am.
No I haven't heard of Snuff Box, but I'll check it out! I'm really interested in watching The IT Crowd 👀
Off topic: That Becca print on the wall is WILD.
🫶🏾 thanks for the chrome appreciation
Another amazing reaction and your hair is so beautiful Abi ❤❤😁😁.
Yeah...they'll go into this a little bit later, but rich people weren't the only ones to get into a vault. And for many of the vaults, you'd probably have wished you took your chances fist-fighting the bomb.
The Jelly Mold shot first.
Goggin heads unite!
👋🏾
You don't really need to play the game as everyone said for thus show but the lore videos might help get you up to speed on how the world is like it is cuz the show is set 10 years after the last game
Pour one out for that jelly mold
Valhalla waits for all who fall in battle 🍻 Rip Jelly mold
Will you be doing THE BEAR anytime soon??
Not yet but I LOVE Jeremy! It will be in my next reaction poll for sure
Since you like the ghoul, the closest thing you'll find to him is Hancock in Fallout 4, who's a companion. It does feel like they took inspo from him for Cooper. Even their strut is the same and their massive chem use but Hancock is a lot more violently just and for the little man, along with enjoying all vices. He's got the BEST intro when you meet him, you should check it out: ua-cam.com/video/EqEVmjMhxqU/v-deo.html
Great
Have you watched peacemaker yet? Its hella good
Hello Abi
None of the vaults are connected besides 33,32,31
Noted! Thank you
That’s spoiler-ish. It’s not too bad of a spoiler because it’s something revealed early. But why do it at all?
@@MarcosElMalo2 it’s not a spoiler
It's first time we see, yes. But we still don't know about all other vaults.
Walton Goggins carries this show. I was expecting it to be totally lame, and I was really surprised at how good it was. Mostly due to him.
He's definitely going to be a highlight this season!! Don't mess with a 🤠 I'm also looking forward to his backstory
Gall... what happened to your wonderful black hair and dreadlocks?! Bring it back!
Please Stream any Fallout game!
Trying to watch a lets play of a fallout game will be a totally different experience than watching someone play the last of us. The last of us is a very linear story based game, while the fallout games are open world and can take much longer to finish. Just warning you.
