I'll say it as a Korean. . The video seems to want to say that the cause of Korea's extremely low birth rate is "conservative about sex." However, the timing of the baby boom in Korea was far more conservative about sex than it is now imaginable. So what made Korea like this? Moon Jae-in government's failed real estate policy due to the newlyweds couldn't afford to get home. Also, the youth unemployment rate has increased significantly due to job policy failures. And the conflict between men and women in Korea is serious. Korean man is no willingness to understand the feminism. They even as misandronist for feminist women. There is no willingness to improve themselves' misconception of sex. So most Korean women have an extreme hatred of Korean men.
This explains so much of a korean girl I knew. She had a boyfriend who she lived with but seemed to hate him. I was kind of like, well why are you with him? She didn't even post pictures of them on Instagram or nothing. And she also told a group of girls who had korean men fetishes because of kpop that korean men were the worst. To never marry one. She really disliked korean men!
Get real dude. You’ve got some real bias and issues. He’s only been President for 1 term. The issues you are talking about aren’t issues that popped up just 4 years ago.
@Yxngex2x I could think of two reasons Kid Dankula finds it hot. The first, he's a masochist. The second, he's a loser and feels like his chances of getting a girl are improved if korean women really hate korean men. This may not be the case at all, just a random, kinda funny guess from my perspective kek
I’m sorry but time and time again I’ve seen Vice interviewers being apathetic, closed-minded, intentionally rude, and disrespectful to cultures they aren’t a part of. It’s one thing to interview somebody harshly and hold them accountable because they’ve done something wrong, but another to call things that are different to what you’re accustomed to “weird” and “wrong” automatically. They seem so ungrateful to be able to be paid to experience another culture.

This story misses the structural issue behind love motels. Falling salaries and increased housing prices make it almost impossible for most young Koreans to move out of their parents homes.
It is the same on the critique of low birth rates of Japan or the obesity of the US. There are big structural forces at play. It is hard to have or want sex when lives are constantly stressed or pushed to work. Not to mention a feeling of never able to put down roots or feel free.
@@Akas410 Late here, but the most popular renting option is where you pay enormous amount of money as a deposit (usually between 50% and 70% of the property's value and it is returned to the tenant in full after two years, but you don't pay monthly fee for the property itself). And this system takes up around 70% of renting properties. Basically the idea is that it's good for landlord and for the renter since the renter can save money during those 2 years (if he had the initial money to even rent the place) and the landlord can invest this large sum of money and for 2 years it will give him interest from investments. But it doesn't work if one doesn't have money to begin with.

@@dennisbielfeld6707 Journalism of this style/level is usually either assigned by a producer/chief editor and then handed off to the journalist, or the initial research for a report is submitted by said journalist to a producer/chief editor who then be gives the green light for the actual report. Either way, the actual script and direction of the report is a result of the journalist reporting. This is evident across all of Vice, and how some people's ideas eventually lead to them becoming regular fixtures and doing regular videos in a style which contains their own distinct voice. This guys particular voice however, seems to come from a very judgmental and narrow view of the world. Not an attitude I would find really embodies the neutral and observational presentation that journalism is supposed to uphold. Obviously a lot of journalism doesn't really uphold such standards nowadays, but when this is an outsider commenting on a culture that's not his own, for no reason other than to inform others of other cultures and ways of life, it just doesn't seem like he needs to sound so judgemental about things he is presenting on. The world is different. He doesn't seem to get that. So reporting on other cultures just doesn't seem a good fit for him. That's all I was trying to say. Honestly I think that the only reason people in Korea are avoiding to marry is because the cost of the housing, the schools, universities, private academies and even food is crazy high and having a child or two on your shoulders is not an easy thing at all!!! I’ve recently got engaged to my korean bf and we are definitely worried about how we will be able to support our children in the future if we ever have! Marriage is still something that everyone wants to do in korea, but the worries that come with it are encouraging people to not do it. So I think one solution could be stop focusing on seoul only and expand other areas in korea so that the prices get distributed as people don’t concentrate on only one area in the whole korea!

MegaJoohyun Exactly what I was going to say! It’s all about money! Kids are working part time and barely getting paid, but have to live in expensive cities to get jobs. So they can barely help their parents
Poverty didn't hold them back in the past. The problem is Koreans' modern materialism, convincing human beings to crouch down and scurry in a rat race for illusory luxury.
@B Z Everything you have written here is grossly racist, misogynistic, misandristic, ignorant and shows your apparent one sided view of the world and the human mind. You said that "South Korean women are responsible for decline in dating, sex, marriage, etc". Let's assume that you are talking about straight couples. Notice the word COUPLES - none of these are things a women can do by herself, and would do it with a man (again, assuming that she is straight). It is very unfair of you to place all of the blame on the woman when the aforementioned require two people. What proof do you have that women have become 'picky, shallow and demanding of men'? Don't you mean that women have standards, know their worth and will stand for nothing less than being treated right by their partner? Who would want to be in a relationship with someone that offers less? You also stated that South Korean men have very easy standards. This isn't fair to them, either. South Korean men should also know their worth and shouldn't stand for being treated badly. And why do you even say that South Korean men have easy standards? Has a South Korean man ever dated you? You said that your Korean friend told you about the dating sites where girls get hundreds of offers while men get less. The same is true with any dating site, and is partly due to the fact that women tend to be more careful about who they choose to meet up with. After all, if a man rapes a woman, and runs off, it's not the man who has to deal with the aftermath that is the struggles of pregnancy, labour, a baby, a cut off education, possibly losing a job, shame from society, mental stress, fees for the baby and the baby's future etc. Or on the other side, the stress and struggles of giving up a child, or abortion. What makes good looking guys with third level education and corporate jobs any better than waitresses, cleaners and store girls? Class and education have nothing to do with the worth of a human being, and how they should be cared for. And why would said women want to date K-pop idols and romance novel heroes? If they have near minimum wage jobs like in the situations you put them in, then surely they would not have a mindset more grounded in reality. It is arguably easier for women to become financially independent due to the stigma around women in workplaces lessening. But that has nothing to do with what we look for in a partner. Hot looks, charm, sexiness instant chemistry can play a major role for BOTH men and women looking for a partner, but it is personality, loyalty and stability among other things that are essential in a lasting relationship. I say "arguably easier" because South Korea currently has the largest gap in pay that a man and woman receives - on average, a Korean male receives 34.6% times more pay than a woman does for the same work hours. It is the currently the worst pay gap among 1st world countries. So while it is becoming more acceptable to see more women working, it is still not financially fair. So Korean women DO look for stability, and a partner's job stability. You said that the 'hot guys' that women hook up with "arent availabe". That heavily implies that these "hot guys" are either 1) already married, or 2) uninterested in marriage. If it is the the former, then that is adultery and both parties are guilty. That also means that, assuming the man is married to a woman and not another man, that a woman did in fact "realise this dynamic", didn't hold out, and did not ignore a man who became their equal. If it is the latter, 2) , then you should edit your entire comment to include men - "the problem that you men don't want to acknowledge is that now that men are financially independent, they no longer value loyalty, stability that much and prioritise hot looks, charm, sexiness, instant chemistry, etc that obviously only a percentage of women have. Men, even mediocre looking ones find it very easy to have casual sex and hookups with hot women but for marriage, those women aren't available. Too many men are unwilling to realise this dynamic and are holding out for such women while ignoring women who might be their equals". On the same note - "Any mediocre looking man with a low paying job in Korea can find plenty of decent looking, educated women." You mentioned that Asian women prefer Western men because they have a white-fetish and think Western men are more attractive. Why on earth would you think that, and why do you generalise Asian women this way? Everyone has their own beauty standards, as how every culture does. That is why we often talk about "favourite types". It's very demeaning of you to assume that all Asian women have the same type that includes all of the traits: confident, social, dominant, charming, taller, better endowed, have good physiques, have masculine facial features, and attractive eyes and noses. You said that said features and traits are more prominent in Caucasian men. This is extremely ignorant of you to assume that no Asian men have these features and traits more prominently. Many of the traits you listed are exactly that - traits. They are not genetic. Being dominant, social, charming or having a good physique have NOTHING to do with your race. Onto the ones that ARE hereditary - having masculine facial features, and attractive eyes and noses. Again, masculinity has nothing to do with race, as does attractive eyes and noses. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as does masculinity. There is nothing stopping an Asian woman from finding an Asian man attractive. And as for better endowed? Dick size is completely irrelevant in whether you date someone or not. Do you mention the size of your dick to a women that you want to date? If so it would be hard to imagine you not single. Why is dating a white man an upgrade? Skin colour has nothing to do with how you choose a partner. And why are Asian women in the US, as you say, being racist towards their own race? That doesn't make any sense. Let me take a wild guess and assume that you are a white American man. Don't act like you know what goes on inside the minds of others. You don't speak for them.

Vice loves making videos about the “dark side” of Asian countries. Through editing and music they try to make harmless things seem creepy or wrong. For example the old people out dancing is framed as seedy and eerie
Vice definitely makes it look exaggerated. They would probably defend the practice as proper theatrics for delivery. Like music. However the problems in Korea isn't just something propagated by some dude from Vice. There is definitely a problem in Korea that everyone can see and agree exists. No one can fully agree what exactly is the reason why. Likely for everyone, they are dozen variety of reasons that all contribute. But ultimately Korean culture as a whole has large problems with it. I say that as a Korean person. Most Korean parents won't know who their kids are and vice versa. Korean parents romanticize themselves as good parents because they make kimchi or trivial thing that every race or ethnic group, even the ones Koreans look down on, do. However, one thing Korean parents are horrible at is actually RAISING their kids. Ironic because the culture is 100% surrounding raising a family. Average Korean parents of the previous generation (so parents of ages 50-70 today) had no idea what they were doing; they were still living the old model of "our ancestors did this for a long time so we will do it a long time." And at the turn of the century when all these knowledge are worthless to young Koreans who are 20s-40s, older Koreans who say "our ancestors did it this way so we do it this way" are pretty much bankrupting the younger generation from learning proper experiences to adapt to the modern world. One of the reasons why this is a problem in the first place is because Korean urban culture developed WAY too fast and its culture because of how nationalistic and rigid/conservative it is has not evolved much since South Korean dictator days. Our culture was literally built upon by generations and generations of dictators in Asia subduing the population into subservient position and telling people to be good little boys and do what they're told.
Idk why people think older people dont like to go out and party. The only reason they dont is because there is no place for them to go. Everything (especially clubs) is built for younger people and understandably the elders don't want to party with the youngsters. They need places designed for them to go out and be around their own peers. So I love the idea of the club owner's and I hope America catches up to this Korean trend by the time I'm old so that I can party in my old age too lol

far8 I agree! They make life so hard we have to work all the time then they act all surprised! Give people time and resources to raise a baby properly then ask questions.
the problem is overpopulation and disproportionate opportunities between the cities and the rural area. The land and therefore, real estate, are dirt cheap on the countryside, but who wants to live on countryside when every opportunities is shit in comparison? This makes cities more overpopulated than in other countries, and therefore, people more unsatisfied. They have higher expectations for their life because Korea is developed thanks partly to this exact overpopulation, but these expectations will ironically rarely be satisfied precisely because there are so many more people that have the similar expectations (because of the same overpopulation). Now you have a population that is always comparing their lives to those of the others and having unrealistically higher expectations that the society will fail to deliver because there are too many people having these expectations. And low birth rate is one of the side effects. People are less inclined to marry because they feel like they could do better.
far8 also no one really cares for love anymore it's sad. Now everything is sex and drugs which is what I hear on the radio most of the time too song-wise. South Korean motels, public restrooms, etc. are known to have hidden cameras (molka) that do live streaming to their viewers, so avoid these kind of places as much as you can if you don't want your privacy in jeopardy.
It is very seriously exaggerated. It's not that there are no spy cameras in Korea, but there are not that many. This is the result of excessive bloating of feminist women who perceive all Korean men as potential sex crimes. The probability of being exposed to spy cam in Korea is slightly higher than the probability of being struck by lightning on a rainy day
There are about one spy camera crime caught in Korea every two months. In Korea, it is also illegal to take pictures of other people without their consent of others. So it's not all the worst crimes you think it's a hidden camera crimes.
Also, Korea is a country that immediately closes pornography sites, but where did you hear that there is a site that shows spy cameras in real time? Don't trust all the Internet information from untrustworthy sources. I used a translator. Sorry for the wrong sentence.

N Irish people the same Then why is it that they cannot understand that the above countries are also British. I've had someone tell me "The scots and the brits are nice people" ...as if it's mutually exclusive. There's no such thing as a British accent
Another factor is the role of children. Rich people thinks of the children's role in the society, like a lot of Koreans. So they bring them to school, academics, universities, etc. While poor people needs labor. They need every manpower they can get to earn more dime. It may be stretching it too far but I believe it holds quite a large part in their decision to have children.
Poor people often make more children. In some places, low income is being cited as a main reason not to have children. The more sex education there is, the more this particular trend shifts.
@@pantethine66 Actually it is. Koreans outside of Korea are better off than Koreans living in Korea. I mean the downside is you'll see prejudice everywhere you go. 11:09 he replied very professionally to the host's question - which is kind of presumptuous. Like, housing is really expensive for young people without families, and its not part of the norm/culture here to move out at 20, so how do you expect to have sex where your parents are? its equivalent to you trying to have sex when you're in middle school or high school. this guy is indeed just giving people a space and opportunity.
why does he think the photoshoot to be weird just because the photographer was giving them instructions, isn't that part of any photoshoot in general, it depends on the concept and the pics you want to get.. I think he's being weird !
MeiHua Zhu He thought it was wierd because he and "his bride" barely knew each other. Excuse him for not being used to leaning in close for romantic poses with a randomly chosen woman who didn't even volunteer herself.
@@jonquilgemstone When I traveled to other states in the USA and I got some pictures with local waitresses and girls I met at bars, complete strangers I met for a minute (and I'm KOrean btw), there was absolutely nothing wrong with close skinship when taking picture. I'm not just talking hand on the arm or shoulder either. I'm talking ass grabs, licking my neck, etc.
laxjoh What kind of bars did you go to?? No offense, but that's not considered respectable behavior, especially with total strangers. Depending on what sort of crowd you're used to, it might be common, but most people would not want employers looking at those pictures. This man found it awkward due to lack of familiarity, and he's probably not used to photoshoots like that, but a real couple would probably be fine with it. On top of that, the man in the video is probably British, and Great Britain generally has a more reserved culture than the USA (although it largely varies in the US).
@@jonquilgemstone I mean I get that that kind of intimacy is not normal. I guess we just had good rapport from the beginning? I mean it was just a harmless picture. I wasn't taking her out back to get a blowjob. They knew i was a tourist. The ass grab was the girl ass grabbing me not me ass grabbing them. Hope it didn't come off like I was molesting them or something. Everyone is different and I certainly don't just physically touch people I don't know like that. I was just partying and at a party-like scene at the time.
I loved the part about clubs for middle aged and elderly people! Seriously, I think that is a great concept ( I would go to a such club myself:)) If you are not that young so life is over? With age, majority people just let themselves go - mentally and physically, and that is really a depressing part. As to the video, I agree that values changes with every generation, but “ prophesy” of this video is away exaggerated.
The photoshoot was kind of funny because it's a Korean superstition that if a guy gives a woman shoes, she will use them to run away. I actually did that once to lose a gf on purpose
Is it though ? I’m black and my mom use to say that too but also if she gave me shoes I had to pay her.. like 5 cent 😂 or something silly, that way she didn’t “give” them to me.
Lucio Innocenzo Why do you complain? Mingling and openmindness is what made grate Europe starting from Greek and Roman era and throughout all of the centuries! The cultures that isolate themselves from others evolve to it's peak, then stop and start culturally involving.

Thanks for the video, that was really informative. I didn't know we had these big problems in our country although I live here. I mean I knew about it, but I just didn't realize it was that serious. Especially, the Bacchus lades, I feel really bad for them. We are all busy studying, working and basically surviving and there is no room for babies or even marriage in our life. Thinking about this just gives me a headache because there is nothing much we can do about it. Hopefully we become more open minded about sex and living in Korea becomes less competitive (not going to happen tho) as we move onto next generation.
@qwdfvbtyhjm iklkjuy I think they stopped. It's more productive to fund immigration programs to send married Koreans out of the country to start families which is exactly what they did. Young Koreans who were dating wanting to work in international business or were married were prime candidate and lo and behold, these Koreans had a much better birth rate per capita than our counterparts back home.
I think the wedding photoshoot was not weird but actually pretty common, they were not acting affectionately so of course the photographer was encouraging, I mean...
This doesn't only happen and happens in South Korea, its happening every where in the world whether its South Asia, Europe or America. Every single person and organization should work together on this issue. Because its not only on the offices, shops or streets its a hell trafficking world.
To me every single person deserves to explore their sexuality and know themselves better! Knowing yourself is a long journey so why omit sexuality out of it? It is part of us too. First it starts with knowing yourself then a partner if you please.
When I visited South Korea in 2000 i was told the most common reason for going into prostitution was divorce. Women need their families support to get the huge down payment on somewhere to live ( you pay a lump sum before you move in) and they are often abandoned for getting a divorce. They would turn to loan sharks to get the money and become prostitutes if they couldn't pay it back. I have no idea how things have changed but wonder if divorce has become more common in older people?
My mom is 56 and goes out more than me! Nothing is wrong with dancing and staying young. Also, shout out to the photographer. His energy is everything!

Not to mention a feeling of never able to put down roots or feel free.
same with America.
Not to mention patriarchy does little to insight women into marriage...
What about renting instead of buying? Or is renting also prohibitively expensive?

On the same note - "Any mediocre looking man with a low paying job in Korea can find plenty of decent looking, educated women."
You mentioned that Asian women prefer Western men because they have a white-fetish and think Western men are more attractive.

They do have places like that.

far8 I agree!
Tax the rich. Make the community the focus of life, not the individual
far8 also no one really cares for love anymore it's sad. Now everything is sex and drugs which is what I hear on the radio most of the time too song-wise. Which sucks things were so beautiful and romantic back then. And songs weren't only about sex and drugs and lust.

@@berbnobirbyes.8583 That's because of religion many of them are Catholic so they oppose contraception, and Islam allows men to have multiple wives.
