@@Lilly-i8q Exactly. Maybe, JUST MAYBE if she tried to socialise then she wouldn’t have this problem. Like nobody’s gonna remember you if you just hide in the shadows.
@@Night_On_Wcue Yeah. I don't blame her for not getting out there more, because as someone with social anxiety, that can be really difficult to do, but I do blame her for acting like her social problems were everyone else's fault.
@user-gw2tw2ur3d Well, like the quiet one in the class, I can only tell you that this feeling of blaming and hating others in that type of situation is actually quite normal and common, seeing how everyone forms their groups generates a lot of envy and insecurity, and honestly there is one or another person who really judges you for being timid, it is not good to have that judgment, but let's be honest, it is something inevitable, I always try to put it aside but it just comes back, and being so confined and being away makes you unconsciously hate people, many studies have proven that, so I really don't blame her for feeling that way, it's something natural, but if it's true that she shouldn't have reached the level of erasing the memory of others, to Although you distrust others, it is not good to let yourself be carried away by that feeling, although I think that social and asocial people hate each other in an unjustified way.
.....so she erases HERSELF from peoples memory.... then complains no one notices her, takes it out on a person who has worked hard to better themself because that person didnt notice her?
and if she erases herself from sunsets memory after sunset wronged in her bully era she'd still be complaining that she doesnt remember her *because shes erasing herself*
Thank goodness I’m not the only one who feels this way. Even as a “forgettable” person, I couldn’t connect to Wall Flower. There’s a difference between people treating you like you’re invisible out of disrespect vs just not knowing you personally.
@@AmyOhHenry225Oh my gosh!! I just wrote a comment about this! Because yeah she was literally erasing memories of herself!!! Of course people aren’t gonna know her then!
If wallflower had more lore to her, like she was mostly picked on by sunset shimmer when she was still mean, id empathize with her more. But shes literally just jealous of nothing?
Wall Flower really was just a petty girl who only wanted attention and clout. She didn't give a damn whether or not Sunset was a douche in the past. She was just jealous of all the attention she got after her redemption. Wall Flower prefectly exemplifies the deadly sin of Envy because she's so jealous of Sunset that she decided that if she can't have friends, then no one can, which is extremely petty and bratty. But because it's a kids show, the protagonist must always forgive the antagonist, even if it's completely undeserved. It makes us think that Wall Flower is entitled to Sunset's forgiveness, which isn't true at all, and sends a bad message to kids that forgiveness isn't an option but a requirement. I absolutely refuse to bury the hatchet of someone who chooses to be a whiny brat who can't accept that life isn't fair, and people should do the same.
I agree with you on this one... Even though the show /series wouldn't actually allow her to actually permanently got her memories erased (Sunset) ,but what if that happened? The reason was indeed doesn't really ring a bell or isn't justifiable at all. Man, I sure would love to see a fic of her acctually forgetting her memories or a spin - off of it. If you guys knew a fic or have written one, please let me know ^^. I'll gladly read it during my free time :)!
You make a point and I feel that same way. She's so annoying. But when I just watched this video and Sunset mentioned not even knowing her, it hit me......Wallflower may have been the only one who wasn't bullied because Sunset never noticed her. But she still hates her out of envy. The mane 6 were nearly killed, Flash Sentry was just used, the students abused, and Celestia was betrayed. They all forgave her . But wall flower just.....argh!!!!!!
For Wallflower, they could’ve easily made a message about not having to accept apologies, or finding a way to reform envy and having her earn an acceptance to her apology
I think people should forgive and not hold a grudge, but you definitely do not have to be friends or anything like that with them to forgive. I think we can both agree that being an envious and/or egotistical person has to be the worst character traits ever.
The fact that Sunset didnt even bully her when she was mean, so is she mad she didnt bully her?! Coz thats how i saw it when i first watched the special.
But Wallflower been using the powerly artifact that she founded for mundane purposes until at the beginning of the sixth movie, trixie reminded everyone including Wallflower in the photo room about Sunset's uncaring past when sunset won't put her new rival in the new yearbook as the superlative she wannabe called by showing sunset an old yearbook of that. Wallflower picked up that book while the others left her in the room while it's dark. That influenced Wallflower to decided to blame sunset for her loneliness.
I don't hate Wallflower, but i definetly see a reason to dislike her. Personally what bugs me the most is something that happened in MLP and in multiple other series and movies as well: How the villain only asks for forgiveness because they are powerless or have been caught. It's a fake apology, if they didn't lose their powers i'm sure they would keep doing evil things, and is something that makes me dislike a villain even more.
I couple characters I think they did well with this was Starlight, Tempest, Chrysalis, and Sombra. Tempest and Starlight had power and the upper hand when they chose to be reformed and with Chrysalis they didn't just reform her because she was defeated she still stayed true to her ways irregardless (even if we never got the reformation she should have gotten at some point) and with Sombra he didn't have a lot of screen time but when we did see him he was just pure evil. They never tried to make him something he wasn't.
It's not fake if they truly mean it. Look at Sunset's actions after the first movie. Would she likely have continued if not stopped? Yes, but being stopped by force got her to think about things. Although I will say it was so cool how Starlight stopped. She had all the power, and said "you know what. I'm going to change". She immediately earned respect/forgiveness by doing that, and was ready to be punished.
Oh noooooooo. No one notices me because I'm boring and basic and erase people's memories of me because I hate attention. So what do I do? Oh yh let's completely ruin someone's life by erasing her friend's good memories of them despite the fact that she has done nothing to me except "not notice me". 10/10 logic right there.
@@VenomousRandy this is so accurate I almost like her because of how stupid she is BAHAHAH you ever hate a character so much you start liking them? thats me with wallflower I think.
I honestly didn't love the message of the movie. I get what they were trying to say, that you shouldn't ignore people and that some children don't have any friends and that's a problem; I myself am a girl with social anxiety who rarely talkes to anyone at my school. And sure, I'd like to have more friends, but it would be completely wrong to hate people because they don't give me attention when I don't bring attention to myself. It's nobody else's fault that everyone ignores me if I ignore everyone, too, and the same goes for everyone. You can't be friends with every single person who is lonely, and no one can be expected to be aware of every single person who doesn't have friends.
Exactly thats what I said after seeing this because if the message was right then we're all obligated to search high and low for Linley people who are trying to hide from everyone or else its our fault their lonely 😭
THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS dude ive been saying this FOR YEARSSS since the release of forgotten friendship. i find her so annoying my god, of course no one remembers you! You used equestrian magic to ERASE everyone's memories of youuuu the world doesnt revolve around you. im glad she never became a popular character on the most part, i love forgotten friendship for the bonding between trixie and sunset and i think trixie really saved that special because wallflower was the most lacklustre antagonist ever
she hated how invisible she was to others, but she used the memory stone to erase any public interaction so it’s like, what did she expect? i know that social anxiety sucks because i deal with it too but, since she kept erasing any memory of her it’s honestly her own fault
As a kid watching this with social anxiety and struggling with my evny of someone else, but I really didn't understand the lession because when I appologized to people I went in knowing that some people might not forgive me and they didn't and I accepted it because I didn't need their permission to get closure, I had already started my healing journey when by the time I was 14, I knew better then that at that point. And when people offered me support I jumped at the chance as soon as it was offered in any capacity because I really did want to understand what I kept getting wrong about being friends with people and wanted another chance at being better. But as a dorky seven teen year old still really unsure of herself, I just didn't know exactly what about this character made me feel so...insecure about myself. How her representation of this filled me with dread and made me second guess myself about things like "is that really how people see me. I swear that can't be true right. I've gotten batter right? I'm talking to people, yea I have bad days where I lash out but not over not noticing me and not at strangers. And besides that's what I'm going to a doctor for so what gives? What am I doing wrong? Just tell me writers, what I'm doing wrong and I'll stop immediately. I just don't understand what you're saying to me? Should I really expect people to owe me an apology simply for not noticing me. That just feels wrong. I'm I being too harsh? Is there something I'm just not noticing with this character. Damn it do you hate me or not???" That's when I gave up on the shorts and the series in general. It just caused me too much stress to continue. Granted this was just a character on TV and I should have done a lot more to improve myself then just, looking at what the media said I should be like. I was a naive kid, what can I say.
Wallflower is a bad example of timid character, don't use her history to improve yourself. Better watch what Fluttershy had to do to be better and you will be better. :)
@@Hillskywind Yeah, after I graduated highschool, people wrote analysis vids of how much fluttershy had changed and improved in the series whitch can he interpreted as someone with social anxiety over coming their fears striving to improve and ultimately succeding to reach their full potential
Wallflower choose to stay invisible and choose to sit in the sidelines of the events from the first five movies. But when she found that powerly artifact, she choose to use it for her own mundane purposes, she never wanted to cause trouble to others until Trixie reminded her about Sunset's uncaring past when sunset won't put Trixie into the new yearbook as the superlative she wanted to be called because there's no such thing as it. That influenced Wallflower to decided to blame sunset for her loneliness.
"I know I intentionally used magic to permanently erase everyone's memories of me BUT WHY DOES NO ONE REMEMBER ME????" Wallflower Blush had the potential to be an interesting character, someone who didn't forgive Sunset for bullying her despite how much she's changed. Someone who blended into the crowd so much that Sunset never approached her to personally apologise, and the knowledge that she was forgotten about made the grudge Wallflower held stronger over time. Even a completely redeemed Sunset "Element of Empathy" Shimmer couldn't be bothered to remember her. She feels like the only person who hasn't forgiven Sunset because she never even received an apology from her. Her shyness isn't the only thing keeping her from making friends, it's also the fact that everyone around her loves Sunset and her friends and gushes over them for always saving the world with the magic of friendship, magic a ruthless bully like Sunset didn't deserve to wield. Finally having the courage to confront Sunset in person only to be treated like a complete stranger and forgotten about _again_ is what triggers Wallflower to erase her friends' memories. It could be interesting to explore a character who _didn't_ instantly forgive the redeemed villain even after they helped to save the world, needing a face-to-face apology and genuine connection to separate the person they are now from who they used to be. This way the message of "Sometimes it's not enough to just not be mean to people, you need to show genuine kindness too" could actually be a lesson Sunset needs to learn. It didn't work in the special because she couldn't remember to be kind to someone who purposefully magically erased all her memories of them, but with much better writing it could be a unique lesson for a redeemed villain on this show. Sunset's been redeemed for so long that she may have stopped going out of her way to be kind, believing that she's been forgiven by everyone who knew her as a bully and didn't need to prove herself anymore. She doesn't make as much of an effort to sit next to someone who looks lonely, she already has a big group of friends waiting for her. Sunset spends so much time with her incredibly close and practically soul-bonded friendship group that, even with her Empathy powers, she doesn't always notice when others feel the same loneliness she once did. Saving the world definitely helps her look like a hero, but a private apology to someone you hurt shows that you respect them as an individual. That's exactly what Wallflower needed, Sunset reaching out would prove to her that she was worth remembering. A character as beloved both in universe and by the fandom as Sunset Shimmer learning that sometimes forgiveness isn't earned by one big gesture (even if that gesture is saving the world) and instead earned by saying/doing things that personally mean something to the ones you've hurt. Even if you don't know them very well, making the effort to get to know them will prove that you're truly sorry. Forgiveness isn't always instant and that person isn't always going to become your best friend afterwards, but you should still try to make amends to give them and even yourself closure. Have Wallflower's breakdown be more serious, tell us that Sunset's bullying gave her very low self-esteem to the point where she shut herself away from her peers out of fear that anyone she grew close to would be annoyed by her shyness and eventually forget about her. Like a more intense Moondancer, given that Sunset was actively cruel to those around her while Twilight just wasn't interested in friendship. If you want to bring up the concept of Sunset not being forgiven by everyone she used to bully, do something compelling with it instead of making the antagonist extremely petty and stupid enough to be mad at Sunset for forgetting her when she literally admits to purposefully erasing every single interaction she's ever had with not only Sunset but everyone else. And then not even having someone state the obvious that her problem was her own fault. As someone who's always been really shy and struggled to make friends, it's really disappointing that Wallflower Blush is the representation of shy kids who, unlike Fluttershy, don't magically end up in a big friend group who always want to include you and never make you feel like no one would notice if you disappeared. Maybe the memory stone is supposed to be an allegory for people who crave connection but never put themselves out there and end up stuck in a self-hating cycle, but Wallflower literally could've just been like that. She could still lash out at Sunset for being the main reason she had low self-esteem, but at least have her acknowledge her own part in her misery when it's something as blatant as deliberately making everyone forget about her and then getting mad that everyone forgot about her. I hate Wallflower so much.
Remember when Sunset was just being nice to her the first meeting? Wallflower responded to her in a toxic and sarcastic way. She should be thankful that at least Sunset was just trying to be nice to her! BTW IT'S HER FAULT THAT SHE'S SOOO SOCIALLY AWKWARD!
Maybe this can be a good link to wallflower’s past that she got picked on by sunset shimmer and sunset know this that she used to bully her and accepts her anger but what she does not accepts is that her toxic sarcasm.
I've hated her for yearsss she was like a unfinished story with so much potential. in all honesty i thought her plot would be so much better if she was a victim of sunsets bullying from before and was lashing out because she was alone and had no support, THEN started wiping sunsets memories as a semi revenge to plan for a way bigger actual revenge. then the ending could be "mean people can change, and aren't just terrible all they're lives" that would be a way better plot in my opinion U_U
i’ve struggled with anxiety since i was a toddler. i had selective mutism growing up, which i recovered from, but i still struggle with GAD. i have struggled with lashing out and being resentful towards certain people because of this. while i have gotten much better with that, it really hurts to see it portrayed this way.
I'd of understood better if Wallflower Blush had been bullied relentlessly or been targetted in some way by Sunset that ruined some part of life- like made her an outcast, seen as the "weird kid", then she found this rock after the thing at fall formal and once Sunset's reputation begins to improve she uses it against her, but in the mean time to learn how to use it, she gets rid of awkward situations or removed all the bad things Sunset spread about her. After all, Sunset's influence was quite impactful- She got the mane 5 to think that each other of them did something wrong to the other. Then the plot of the movie happens! No one, not even Sunset remembers her because she removed impactful memories that would likely not be forgotten, but she's mad because Sunset who ruined her life, has a wonderful set of friends and her reputation is better. This backstory would've made the reason for making everyone remember Sunset as the mean girl she used to be much more meaningful- at least as a reason to do it. This would explain that she isn't just forgotten because she kept removing the memories of people she had awkward or undesirable interactions with, but was lonely before she found the stone due to being basically ruined by Sunset. At the end of the move, Sunset apologises for what she did (finding out via her abity) and for isolating Wallflower from people then either her or Trixy offers their friendship AND then Wallflower apologises for removing the good memories of Sunset instead of just talking to her and since the artifact is destroyed, the memories from Sunset ruining Wallflower's image are restored, so Sunset helps Wallflower restore the reputation she destroyed.
i literally just finished watching forgotten friendship for the 11th time lol, honestly ii totally agree with you i dont like Wallflower Blush either, you totally put my thoughts into words :)
Off topic. I like the demo version of her song better then the one in the show. It's just changes two things. it's on piano and it's slower. I know that a lot of songs go too slow or the simplicity makes it lacking. But how they did wallflowers song is too much for what she was singing about. Simplicity I think is the better choice there in my opinion.
Honestly, Wallflowers character could be so easily fixed, they made her into sunsets old friend. Like someone she befriended when she first came to Equestria. It wouldn't even have to be a genuine friendship, they could've said sunset used her or something
Tolerance has its limits. If young people are taught to forgive and forget any wrong doing by someone else, they essentially teach these wrong doers that they did the right thing, which insures that they will never change. Some people are outcasts because of their own faults.
Even when I was younger I had an isssue with this! She literally erased people's memories herself; why is she blaming Sunset? Why is Sunset the one apologizing?? It would've made way more sense for Sunset to have actually done something mean that she forgot about. As someone with anxiety, I could not relate to her. So no, I'm not going to defend her; as you said, they've done anxiety right before. I'm not sure what happened with this movie.
I was actually talking about how much Wallflower annoyed me to my friends at lunch and they all agreed cuz it’s like “oh yeah, I’m gonna try to ruin your life because I can’t put myself out there” and “I’m gonna blame this one person because no one likes or knows me”
Great Video! I would also like to point out her character design, specifically her outfit. It is such a nothing outfit. It has no visable personality in any way. And I know that is kinda the point, she is shy and unnoticed, but even then, it still gives a whole lot of nothing. The outfits of the characters, even the background characters at least have something going on, but Wallflower doesn't really have that. I think it would have worked better if her sweater was different, maybe green to represent the envy she feels towards sunset or maybe add an accessory to her hair or something. Not anything that really makes her stand out, but still something that signifies we should care about her.
Also, the dull yellow-brown colors clash with her green hair and skin. A dull blue, or maybe a purple would've worked much better. Feel free to read this in Rarity's voice.
@@balanc-joy9187 I read this comment, got to the end, and then reread it again so that i could hear it in raritys voice. It was how the comment was meant to be read.
THANK YOU OMG, I really don't like her character and sunset didn't owe her anything, to remove her friends good memories and lash out on her was extremely unfair, especially taking in account that the whole school also wasn't aware of her, why pick on sunset shimmer. the levels she went to because of jealousy was too extreme and if she was going to be written as a villain, go all out and make her a villain, its lazy writing and honestly shows how much sunsets character has improved from the first time we saw, taking accountability and apologising for absolutely nothing to make sure wallflower knows she's got friends and is there for her, so that she didn't feel alone like she once did.
I think the problem here is they needed to spend a bit more time on her redemption, instead of making it feel rushed. This is a situation where they really needed a second villain who could be used as the foil that manipulates her into doing what she does. That would've benefited this special quite alot.
i havent watched forgotten friendship in a while and i never rlly cared abt her but i remember i liked her and especially her character design. now i can understand why she’s not rlly a fan favorite :[
“YOURE A MEANIE CAUSE I NEVER MAKE THE EFFORT TO BE NOTICEABLE AND MAKE FRIENDS” is basically her logic it makes me so angry. As someone who was like Wallflower Blush, she’s the incel of friendship.
OMG FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT You can't be mad when know one knows who you are if you purposely go out of your way to hide yourself from others, and strange how out of all the people she targets Sunset after she redeems herself and... gets friends?? It be different if everyone ignored her on purpose but she was literally hiding in a secret garden but then be like "waaah no one notice me grrr1!1!!1" then ACTUALLY TRY not get mad a whoever gets popular after becoming a better person
Even if she had appropriated the pain of others: Then make that a theme. We got Fluttershy for a person with anxiety, with her sometimes even lashing out when pushed too far or overcorrecting her behaviour. Seeing how to deal with a person choosing to be a victim constantly and causing harm out of the entitlement to have attention with not giving some herself propperly to anyone else too... And not coddeling and taking the blame for it...that would have also been a good story.
Thank you! When this movie dropped I was genuinely peeved about how many people were praising Wallflower when she was such an awful person. I am no stranger to social anxiety. I've spent my whole life working towards figuring out how to make friends and keeping them. But part of that is trial and error and the rest is a willingness to take a few risks for the cause. Wallflower erased what few memories people had of her so she could get the perfect result and that just made her more alone. And instead of realizing "Hey, this isn't working. No one is retaining any info about me", she just keeps going, erasing more memories, and becoming bitter and resentful. She doesn't even have a reason to be mad at Sunset. Sunset did literally nothing wrong. She can't remember someone that won't let her remember. I really wanted that brat to get a very stern talking to at least but instead they all apologized to HER for something that isn't any of their faults. God, she was just terrible. Also I still think Flash Sentry should have had a role in the climax since he is in a unique position of having actually liked Sunset at some point back when she was still a bully. His good and bad memories are mixed together, it would be very hard to say he never liked her when they were literally dating. He would also have enough insight on her to recognize the difference between how she was then and how she acts now.
I feel like if she wasn't forgiven it could be a great example of how entitled people can be. "Sure, you didn't hurt me, but your attention wasn't on me either. I want attention, GIVE ME ATTENTION!"
Honestly I don't hate Wallflower at all. I find her as a interesting character. Just a bit delusional but so are other psychopathic stalkers- AHEM. Now on a psychological standpoint what Wallflower went through is basically her just destroying herself through envy. She saw what Sunset was and what she is now and is upset she can't do the same. So she's trying to drag Sunset down along with her. You'd be surprised how much this happened to me irl. I was a terrible person 2 years ago but as things happened I eventually changed, I became better. And you have no idea how my friends reacted. Y’know previously I thought of them as better than me but now? They only kept me around because of that mindset. When they saw me improving myself they instantly dropped me. That's why I like Wallflower because some people are just straight up toxic. Putting effort into bringing others down rather than putting effort into bringing themselves up.
While I too personally don't care too much for this character either, I learned two important lessons from this story: 1. In Wallflower's mind, Sunset was the walking embodiment of everything the former needed to work on in herself. You can see this is kind of attitude in haters towards celebrities. You don't necessarily have to know, do, or say anything for some random person to hate you. The mere fact that Sunset was becoming a better version of herself was enough to trigger Wallflower, in the same manner why random people are triggered by the successful for no reason. 2. In the past decade of me writing superhero stories, I've noticed one thing. No matter how good you are as person, you will always be the villain in someone else's story. That's just life, unfortunately..
I like Wallflower personally, but I did see this one concept of her as the antagonist being replaced with Human Sunset, don’t remember the post but I found the idea interesting, and probably would have made an already pretty good special in my opinion more fun I liked the video essay btw!
The victim complex goes HARD on this one. She basically erases ppls memories of her own damn self and complains when no one seems to remember her. Not to mention the fact that she just starts lashing out at Sunset for smth that has absolutely nothing to do with her. 😐
I like the overall message (that being you need to put in effort to be nice not just “not mean”) but the execution just was not it. Even if wallflower didn’t use the memory stone all the time, it just came across as incel /parasocial behavior. Sunset doesn’t know her, wallflower isn’t “owed” friendship just because she knows of sunset’s existence. Like you said they should’ve had Sunset actually wrong her, cus currently the moral reads as “if you’re in the same vicinity as someone for long enough they’re obligated to give you friendship and attention”
Man, I don’t think I’ll ever get over my love for EQG and MLP (My favorite out of the two actually being EQG,) it’s just so frikkin good. I know it’s made for kids but I can’t help it. Anytime I see a video on the topic, I get reminded of how bizarrely in love I was with this franchise. Honestly still am, and I’m 19!😂 Also I definitely see your point on Wallflower
Doesn't matter who it's made for, entertainment is entertainment, and if you like what it does and it speaks to you, then there's nothing wrong with that. I love EQG too! Most of it has a certain charm that just speaks to me.
I hate her because she was acting like Sunset was the cause of all her problems. Like, honey, everyone ignored you. And also, how does this make any sense?? Most of the things that led to the world now could only happen because of Sunset, if they’re memories are erased, then how should they explain what happened? Also I guess you could say that they have vague memories of what’s actually happened but Sunset touching Applejack and seeing her memories shows that they aren’t vague that Sunset is just absent.
I was just thinking of like the events in the movies where Sunset is present! Because she was literally like the main character? In Friendship Games! She was the one who helped Twilight out of the dark magic! So what happened there?!? Then in Legend og Everfree she was the one who got the mane six to embrace their magic and was helping Twilight fight back again Midnight Sparkle towards the end? I mean the others joined in but Sunset pushed it in motion? So like- Wha- And then Rainbow Rocks if Sunset wasn’t there they were literally going to lose! They literally lost and then she stepped in and got them to win against the Dazzlings! So like what- Huh?!?
I mean I do still find her relatable for some reason but what if instead she was like forced into social isolation? Maybe unfairly criticized in the past or suffering public humiliation/ shame to the point she wants to erase her existence or control their opinion on her. I found her interesting because she wanted to make sunset’s friends hate her kind of forcing her into isolation as well and it’s kind of a “drag you down with me” mindset which is something that happens irl but is addressed so little in media. Maybe that would’ve been a better direction instead . Also I feel that some people want attention but then isolate themselves over self consciousness/ image issues. It’s a frustrating feeling that they exaggerated into a villain motive.
What crazy timing, I got into an argument just a couple days ago on Reddit with someone who tried to demonize (pun not intended) Sunset and was way too soft on Wallflower Blush. Knocked it out of the park on her *ssunsxt* !! The short version of what the person was arguing was that Wallflower had a right to be upset with Sunset because Sunset ignored her, and Sunset was in the wrong because she didn't try to talk to Wallflower, and escalated things by being aggressive towards her. Also, that Sunset didn't "learn her lesson" because Wallflower went back to being a background character after the special was over. I absolutely _despise_ Wallflower as she is shown in special.
I've seen/heard situations of socially isolated people becoming resentful and cruel to those who have "popularity", and I'm sure a story about that going too far could be interesting. However, if that WAS the intention, it conveys it so shallowly and vaguely that I honestly can't tell. And again, if that was the message they were going for, it's muddled with her/the story fixating on sunset's formal villain arch and not her own issues
i agree with you so much! this whole movie message seemed so weird! i tried to understand it several times rewatching it, but now i understand why it didn't make sense. It was not written correctly! you were right in your video that there needed to be a solid reason why wallflower hated sunset shimmer. there was none. sunset didn't even know who she was! Also, its true wallflower kept erasing all her mistakes from people so of course no one will actually remember you. It's a child with a dangerous tool. The writers had no solid foundation for wallflower to hate sunset besides being jealous her life turned around for the better. In the end wallflower wasn't really sorry for what she did she was sorry she got caught, they made sunset apologize for what? working hard to have a better future? So, they make it seem the person who worked hard like Sunset need to apologizes to cheaters and memory ruiners like Wallflower for what? Woke brownie points?... Wallflowers should have grown from the envy she had like you said! It could have been written much better. Wallflower is a wasted potential of a character that had a lot to grow correctly. Id like to see a fan fic redo this movie as it could have had a much interesting past and moral ending than what we got. thank you for this vid
I’m glad you made this video I always felt like something was off with this character and special , but I never could figure out why, till I saw this and everything made so much sense!
THANK YOU OH MY GOD the first time i watched that episode i was genuinely horrified at the nonsensical ending...make it make sense...sunset had NO REASON to apologise to wallflower i mean it's not like the nice popular kids will say hi to literally everyone, even people they don't know, right? if you see someone you don't know in the school hallway would you go up to them and say hi???
THANK YOU!!!!! I watch this episode so long ago and was completely confused on how they decided to execute this stories lesson. Wallflower blush’s hatred for sunset shimmer made no sense to me. And I felt so crazy when I went online and saw posts about how much people felt bad for her or that her character was “great” and “relatable”. I understand sunset shimmer wasn’t the nicest person and hurt a lot of people in her past, BUT she didn’t even talk ONCE with this girl. And now that that she is actively changing her ways to be a better person she’s mad that she never got NOTICE. MISS GIRL if you are lonely make friends, advertise your club or whatever. Just because you’re insecure and shy doesn’t mean you can mess with people’s lives and memories. STOP PLAYING THE VICTIM. Anyway thank you again for making this video. And validating the experience I had while watching the episode for the first time. Have a great day bye✌️😃
Last year, I also was friendless, but making people forget about me felt too harsh to me so I tried my best to make friends this year and I did make friends with people around me. Apparently I hated Wallflower so damn much when I first watched the movie when I was younger. My small brain got too confused when I was young but all I knew is that Wallflower could have done better, I can't even make this up 💀 at some point almost all of the Equastria villains are the same, all having wasted potentials. Hasbro should get better with writing villain backstories, I know this is a kids' show but characters who end up doing stupid s**t and apologize right after they admit they have lost is probably the most annoying ending for everyone.
I feel like a lot of the side characters in Equestria Girls had the chance to become supporting roles in the series had Hasbro continued to promote it after Friendship Is Magic ended. There was a lot more that could've been done in the human world, which simply wasn't taken into consideration. Oh well, at least the Dazzlings had a decent send-off before being tossed out. I blame the failing sales of the toys on the show being cut short. That's what happens when you use cheap materials and sell low-quality products. It can taint an audience's interest in buying them, which in turn, can cause the executives to pull the plug because it's not profitable.
I think your essay sums up how sloppy her writing was for this special If anything, i think Juniper's conclusion in her special was what Wall flower desperately needed Juniper was a cashier worker who used a magical mirror to change how others viewed her and by the end, it was Juniper's own decision to undo her mistakes She wasn't forced into submission like Wallflower's case She just listen to Starlight's offer, reflected on how her actions may have affected others and revaluated herself
THANK YOU!!!!! Wallflower is easily my least favourite MLP character. I've tried explaining why to others, but they always respond with something like "But she's relatable" or "She's cute". You summed up my feelings about her perfectly.
I thought I was the only one who thought this. She was mad at Sunset for no reason. No one else knew Wallflower existed, but she decided to target Sunset anyway.
Oh I remember I DESPISED this kid when i was a child, watching this. Always hated people who intentionally leave themselves out and try play the victim, because I’m always trying so hard to be friends with them, or make them comfortable in case they’re genuinely insecure. But no, they just wanna be the edgy loner 💀
most of the people that are like this arent the victim and arent exactly TRYING to be they just think that they are and they are too wrapped up in themselves. people do change though, they just need a lot of convincing to do so
@@cutieloopheh No no, I know they usually aren’t trying to be. But some of them literally just refuse, no matter what, to include themselves or make friends for the sake of having “main character vibes” or whatever. 😭 And I feel bad that they’re doing that to themselves, but it gets frustrating sometimes, you know?
Wallflower isn't the only character that I have problem with. The Postcrush also suffers this. The only reason why they become antagonist is because they want things to be perfect
I really appreciate hearing more about this Because, I thought Wallflower was just unnoticed by everyone, and she’s “forgetful” Which is very hurtful and makes sense to be angry at BUT, we come to learn that she actively erases memories of herself in everyone she meets and pretty much created her own problem I didn’t know she had the rock for so long, but knowing that now, oof-
Yeah, I don’t think Sunset has to apologise at the end because she didn’t do shit to Wallflower; it was her own damn fault for not trying hard enough to get noticed. Plus, she was literally erasing everyone’s memories of her & yet Wallflower is like “Oh how come nobody notices me???”. I also think Trixie has to take some of the blame because her massive ego had to remind everyone that Sunset was a prick & this is what gave Wallflower the ammo to ruin Sunset’s day!!!
Would've made sense if Wallflower used to be Sunset's first "friend" back when she was still an awful person, where she led her to believe she was a trustworthy and faithful friend, but then turned around and humiliated her in some way. But then within the special was her way at getting back at Sunset for hurting her. But that could just be me
I personally liked her character when I first watched but like- hearing this now, it actually makes sense on why she isn’t a good character, like she had so much potential! But they didn’t properly use it, like, she hates Sunset? And Sunset was a bully? Maybe she was bullied by her? NOPE! Jealousy, but even then it doesn’t make proper sense her character, but she had great potential in my opinion, like- a shy and awkward character that erases memories?! There’s so much good potential! But yet they didn’t use it! It just- WJDUSKUSKFWOKSIAKUQ
I like Trixie more than Wallflower. She may be antagonistic and selfish sometimes but she's at least likable in her own way and both her pony version and human version tried to be better. Also, Trixie is just so iconic. I'm so glad she's actually in this short movie, roasting Wallflower as well. I would not enjoy it otherwise XD
and towards the end, she actually had to audacity to go after Twilight and the other mane 6 by erasing their memories like, they literally did NOTHING to her
If she had lore like sunset actively bullied her or everyone saw her as weird for not socializing then I could probably feel bad for her but noooo she just had to stick to the shadows BY CHOICE and then make it everyone’s problem!
The fact that i forgot about her existance after watching this tells you a lot 😂 . The idea is there but like...the plot did not make me care about her. Her motivation makes no sense since Sunset did not do anything to her directly other than forget her but that was the same thing with everyone around Wallflower blush . No one knew her since they had no memory of her so like...what was the point if she kept erasing memories of herself from everyone?
I kinda wanna see a version of this where Subset Shimmer, upon realizing everybody's memories of her were erased, just. Joes with it and begins re-building her reputation. She knows some sort of magic bullshit is going on but she doesn't want to give whoever it is the satisfaction of winning
she was a cool concept ig but she deserved a better villain arc 💀💀 bc that episode killed me it feels like they are making fun of timid people with social anxiety while acting like they are representing it ???? 😭
Fluttershy is part of the main cast with social anxiety and in the show, she overcame it. How come the writers never thought about adding her as a main character in this story and have a scene where she talks to Wallflower about her struggles with anxiety and being an outcast, but she put in the effort to befriend people and get out of her shell? Fluttershy would've been a good role model to Wallflower.
I agree with you. Wallflower Blush is a horrible person and the real big meanie. Jealous of Sunset becoming popular, using Equestrian magic for a ‘revenge’ plan, and making herself more invisible by erasing every embarrassing and bad moments of her.
This whole plot felt a lot like a clash of writing happening somewhere in production for it, like it started with maybe the idea of her erasing people's memories but being mad she wasn't being noticed, but somewhere along the line got mixed with another idea about social anxiety... I don't know, to me it simply feels like more than one person was clashing on what they wanted the theme to be and it ended up becoming some mix of different traits and messy writing.
Usually, I get weary of video essays that are heavily disclaimed with "it's just my opinion," but you made so so many good points. You're so based. You've earned a loyal follower.
Thank you! I tried to approach the topic as pragmatically as possible because I really didn’t want to come across as just complaining for the sake of complaining like a lot of video essays I’ve seen can be 😭
About Wallflower not apologizing until after the memory stone was shattered- something I noticed that reoccurs a lot in Equestria Girls: is equestrian magic enhancing someone’s negative emotions until everything is blown out of proportion. First it was Midnight Sparkle. Unlike Sunset Shimmer- Sci Twi never at any point beforehand showed a desire to study Equestrian magic to the point of resorting to evil. Yet it still seems that because of her setbacks, the magic was able to corrupt her to the point of wanting to destroy worlds. Next- it was Gloriosa Daisy, who got a hold of the geodes, and her fears of losing the camp escalated to her trapping everyone inside camp to protect it! There was also Juniper Montage, who got a hold of a mirror powered by magic that allowed her negative feelings to keep growing out of proportion. And Vinette Valencia whose phone absorbed Equestrian Magic and corrupted her with power. So while I feel in the end, it was the fault of the characters for never bringing the magic under control again- I do think that to an extent Equestrian magic and magical artifacts have the ability to corrupt someone and amplify their negative emotions. With the reoccurring theme being that power can corrupt the soul.
Finally, I’m not the only person that hates Wallflower Blush. For one, if she didn’t want to be forgotten, then why is she erasing everyone’s memories of her? And boo-hoo, she was jealous. Why do we have her again when Fluttershy exists and is a far better character than her? It’s not like she was bullied throughout the entirety of her life. The amount of plot holes not only in her character, but in the special, can fill up Jupiter. There’s a reason why I have ditched Equestria Girls after the first two movies. It started to get blander and more confused, the characters were weaker, and any moment of redemption is completely ruined by blander characters. Wallflower is just the worst symptom of this problem.
Friendship Games and Legend of Everfree are still pretty solid, plus even this special did give us Sunset and Trixie friendship and a Sunset/Celestia reunion.
she feels like the friendship version of an incel tbh
This is the most accurate depiction of her character
"There is no Easter Bunny, there is no Tooth Fairy, and there is no way to justify Wallflower's huge memory erasure"

@@VenomousRandyor she didn’t care lol
If you guys knew a fic or have
written one, please let me know ^^.

It's a fake apology, if they didn't lose their powers i'm sure they would keep doing evil things, and is something that makes me dislike a villain even more.
when you pay attention to sunset losing her memory in forgotten friendship you can see how scared and regretfull wallflower is of what she done tho
not really. Tempest was still powerful, but decided to save the mane six by sacrificing her and turning herself into stone
Yeah, but Starlight is not one of those villains she was still powerful when she decided to be with Twilight

I honestly didn't love the message of the movie.

Wallflower: "I'm sick of people forgetting about me!"
*proceeds to actively use a magic stone to erase people's memories of her*
Wallflower choose to stay invisible and choose to sit in the sidelines of the events from the first five movies.
"I know I intentionally used magic to permanently erase everyone's memories of me BUT WHY DOES NO ONE REMEMBER ME????"
Wallflower Blush had the potential to be an interesting character, someone who didn't forgive Sunset for bullying her despite how much she's changed.

Same. I liked your take on how things could've played out better.
Feel free to read this in Rarity's voice.
her outfit reminds me of what a nothing person would wear, which is peak character design cause I wear those type of clothes when I'm at home
@@balanc-joy9187 I read this comment, got to the end, and then reread it again so that i could hear it in raritys voice. It was how the comment was meant to be read.
moondancer friendship is magic if she was poorly written:
Yeah I like her green hair; the MLP artists did well on that.

It’s a shame Wallflower is such a horrible person and character. Her design is so cute!
FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT!!! I literally skip this special when I rewatched the Equestria Girls films because of her!
THIS is how i want people to xplain why they hate a character.
Same energy as incels who hold grudges over being friendzoned when they never once told their crush they were interested.
Her magic was so good that I didn't even remember Wallflower Blush existed
I remember being 9 and nearly crying when her part came on because I had no friends in the 4th grade and felt she was too relatable 😂😭💀
While I too personally don't care too much for this character either, I learned two important lessons from this story:
She got mad at sunset for no reason, Wallflower literary got rid of peoples memories of herself and got mad when people forgot her???
WB been using the powerly artifact that she found for her own mundane purposes until Trixie made her jumped off the slippery slope.
I like Wallflower personally, but I did see this one concept of her as the antagonist being replaced with Human Sunset, don’t remember the post but I found the idea interesting, and probably would have made an already pretty good special in my opinion more fun
I liked the video essay btw!
Honestly still am, and I’m 19!😂
Also I definitely see your point on Wallflower
So like- Wha-
And then Rainbow Rocks if Sunset wasn’t there they were literally going to lose! They literally lost and then she stepped in and got them to win against the Dazzlings! So like what- Huh?!?
If she's literally ERASING people's memories of HER, then no duh nobody's gonna know who she is.
Also I don’t wanna self diagnose, but maybe avpd?
@@RibbonjuiceAt least someone gets it. I’ve theorized she had avpd since 2018 when it came out.
THANK YOU OH MY GOD the first time i watched that episode i was genuinely horrified at the nonsensical ending...make it make sense...sunset had NO REASON to apologise to wallflower
i mean it's not like the nice popular kids will say hi to literally everyone, even people they don't know, right? if you see someone you don't know in the school hallway would you go up to them and say hi???
I think your essay sums up how sloppy her writing was for this special
If anything, i think Juniper's conclusion in her special was what Wall flower desperately needed
Juniper was a cashier worker who used a magical mirror to change how others viewed her and by the end, it was Juniper's own decision to undo her mistakes
She wasn't forced into submission like Wallflower's case
She just listen to Starlight's offer, reflected on how her actions may have affected others and revaluated herself
And she had a motive unlike Wallflower
THANK YOU!!!!!
Wallflower is easily my least favourite MLP character. I've tried explaining why to others, but they always respond with something like "But she's relatable" or "She's cute". You summed up my feelings about her perfectly.
I thought I was the only one who thought this. She was mad at Sunset for no reason. No one else knew Wallflower existed, but she decided to target Sunset anyway.
Your first video in 3 years was a phenomenal comeback might I say

And I feel bad that they’re doing that to themselves, but it gets frustrating sometimes, you know?
I think maybe Wallflower should’ve been like some sort of anti hero and then like have the Dazzlings been the antagonists or something for the special
Wallflower isn't the only character that I have problem with. The Postcrush also suffers this. The only reason why they become antagonist is because they want things to be perfect
Brb, finna go rewrite this entire character
Edit: nvm, I should probably rewrite the entirety of that movie

I really appreciate hearing more about this
Because, I thought Wallflower was just unnoticed by everyone, and she’s “forgetful”
Which is very hurtful and makes sense to be angry at
BUT, we come to learn that she actively erases memories of herself in everyone she meets and pretty much created her own problem
I didn’t know she had the rock for so long, but knowing that now, oof-
I feel your pain. I never liked Wallflower Blush either, or the Forgotten Friendship special either to be frank
Her name is literally “WALL”flower 😭 she also has the typical “misunderstood, becomes evil, then becomes good when main character(s) kick her ass”
and towards the end, she actually had to audacity to go after Twilight and the other mane 6 by erasing their memories like, they literally did NOTHING to her
I personally hate wallflower because she erased memories of herself from others and then is angry at people not knowing her at all???
Well she used the powerly artifact that she found for her own mundane purposes until Trixie reminded her about Sunset's uncaring past.
I don't hate her but you really have a point, the equestria girls writers really don't know what they were doing 😭
Definitely a fumble.
@@balanc-joy9187 huh?
@@Aleezaurr_The writers got it wrong with Wallflower.
@@balanc-joy9187 yea they did-
If she had lore like sunset actively bullied her or everyone saw her as weird for not socializing then I could probably feel bad for her but noooo she just had to stick to the shadows BY CHOICE and then make it everyone’s problem!
Finally someone who feels the same about this character I mean we’ve never even met her before now how can we remember her
I agree with you.
THANK YOU !! I DESPISED THIS CHARACTER! But everyone felt sooo bad for her
Usually, I get weary of video essays that are heavily disclaimed with "it's just my opinion," but you made so so many good points.
