Also a big difference if cleaning with well water or chlorinated water. Well water isn’t as harmful to bacteria as chlorine which will just about kill everything. Just a thought. As long as the filter media was washed in de-chlorinated water, the cycle should be fine. The goldfish are beautiful and healthy, I'm sure he knows what he's doing. When I had goldfish I did large water changes weekly as well because goldfish are dirty. Fish will not die without plants.... Goldfish eat live plants sooo....
Its better to rinse also the filter sponges with aquarium water because it keeps beneficial bacteria almost like filter media. Cute goldfish though they look like water puppies.
It's very rewarding after finishing cleaning of the tank you sit back in your chair and enjoy the fish tank of your dreams then you get over that and want to build another fish tank of your dreams it never ends lol

Very nice, but it is advised that you dissolve the salt in water first before adding it to the tank and letting it dissolve on its own bc it will sting the fish

Years ago while raising Guppies I learned something very important. Once I took the lid off the tanks the survival rate of my guppies was very very very good. I did need to put a screen on top to keep them from jumping out. I don't know if this is true for goldfish but for Guppies taking the lid off and giving them more oxygen on the top of their aquarium makes a big big big difference and their survival rate and health. I went from fish dying to almost no fish dying. They were very healthy.

What I don’t recommend is artificial plants! They look terrible don’t provide any pros to the fish tank and fish can cut them self’s on them and even die. What you can say tho.. is to use hardy plants like Java fern. I just wanted to get it clear that it is fine to use plants but be aware of your pocket because most of them will not make it. That’s the only reason! Java fern I find great because they reproduce quite fast even on a tank with no oxygen injection. You might even be lucky because it all comes down to the fish personality. You might get lucky and get a fish that appreciates interior design lol

@Ashley Cyril having big or small sized gravel rocks as substrate would only make cleaning the tank for poop much harder on yourself. I really don't get why people like gravel as substrate for goldfish, ammonia spikes have an increased chance for gravel bottoms because of food getting stuck in between, and bad aerobic pockets inside the gravel can form if not cleaned properly on a weekly basis. Sand is always the 2nd best as substrate for goldfish, bare bottom being 1st.

You change 60% water per week? Do that make the fishes weaker because of shock?
Hạnh Gilkun no won’t shock the fish. Gold fish need very clean water 60 % limit though.
