    When eating cranberries or drinking the juice be sure to rinse off your teeth immediately. Cranberry juice is very acidic and will soften your teeth quickly.

    I'm always responsible for the cranberry sauce at thanksgiving- I used to make my grandma's recipe which was just sugar & fresh cranberries baked until they all pop and the sugar dissolves then stir all together, which works quite well, but I quit refined sugar 3 years ago so now I usually use honey, orange juice, pomegranate juice, and some orange zest and do it on the stovetop in a pot instead- my family actually likes it more than the original recipe! I made it both ways the first year and everyone gobbled up my naturally sweetened one & the sugar sweetened one barely got touched! Sorry grandma.

      I also love to snack on plain fresh raw cranberries- they are very tart and have a weird crunchy texture but I really love them! I've always liked sour foods. My husband thinks I'm crazy, especially after trying one himself and promptly spitting it back out!

      No problem! If you do use actual sugar to sweeten (and not honey etc) please use organic.

      while your recipe sounds good, Honey, Pomegranate Jc, and OJ are loaded with natural sugar!! it will still spike your blood sugar. Seems not a very good alternative health-wise.

    I do everything with cranberries! I use them for decorations for Christmas, use it for juice, cranberry sauce, and fresh cranberry Jell-O salad is my favorite, it's my own special recipe, just to name a few things.
    Now that I think about it, I could probably incorporate some DIY skin care products into my cranberry usage.

    zest an orange, hold zest back until end. Juice orange. 1 bag cranberries, 3/4 cup water, 3/4 cup brown sugar, juice of 1 orange. Bring to simmer and cook on low until a nice sauce. About 15 min. Then add zest and 2 teaspoons vanilla. Stir. Keep in fridge. Good on sandwiches.

    Hey Dani, I made fresh cranberry sauce for the first time for Thanksgiving. The traditional recipe: cranberries, orange juice and sugar. This sauce is sooooo delicious, and it was so easy to make. I am wondering why I ever used the canned stuff! Doubt if I am ever going back to it.

    So glad that you posted this video, Dani! I was at Costco around Halloween time and they had a giant bag of fresh, beautiful cranberries for an awesome price and they just called my name! I have never used cranberries before and have been put off cranberry sauce as a kid and I have no idea what to do with them. The bag that they came in said I could store them in the freezer so I did that straight away and have been contemplating ever since about what to do with the those little beauties. Can't wait to see your new cranberry videos! Going to check out your cranberry pumpkin muffin recipe now 😊💜

    This is a cranberry relish I've created a few years ago that is now practically a daily part of our diet. You chop (electrically) one package or 10 oz. of whole cranberries (fresh or frozen), add 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, 80-90 grams raw honey and 1/2 cup walnuts, mix it up and you have a nutritionally powerful side dish that compliments almost any entreé. And it's pretty too. :)

    Great video, thank you! I take a bag of frozen cranberries, put them in a pot (no water, nothing but the berries) and cook them down so they're soft & mushy. I then add some vanilla liquid stevia and mix... YUMMY as is but I usually mix a big spoonful of that with red wine or apple cider vinegar & plain yogurt to make a bangin' salad dressing!! :)

    For a Popped Cranberry recipe: Toss 10 oz. of frozen or fresh cranberries into a medium bowl. Toss with 2 Tbs. of sugar or a sugar substitute. Spread berries onto a single layer parchment-covered baking sheet and bake about 12 hours at 200 degrees F. in your oven. Let them cool and then eat them out of hand, sprinkled in cereal or folded into chicken salad. 1/4 cup contains about 10 gms. sugar compared with about 29 gms. in a popular brand if sweetened, dried cranberries. You can also make a brine of sugar water and cinnamon to pre-soak the cranberries into to make them sticky enough to let the sugar or sugar substitute adhere well to each cranberry, if you wish. Neat quick cranberry treats to make and this recipe is one i got from Arthritis Today magazine. Me, I keep a bottle of sugar that is mixed with cinnamon just for handy dusting on treats like this and candy apples or such. Thanks for sharing the info on growing and harvesting cranbetties. Nice video.

    There's a jello recipe my grandma used to make with cranberries, apples, and walnuts. I'd love to know a healthy version of this if you have suggestions. (I don't eat gelatin). 😉

    • @YT4Me57
      @YT4Me57 8 років тому +2

      +Autumn L. Cranberries and oranges have a lot of natural pectin, so they "gel up" easily when they are cooked together. I don't think you'd have to use gelatin to make a jello-type desert. Try doing a search on UA-cam or Google.

    • @courtneymcfarland8333
      @courtneymcfarland8333 8 років тому +1

      I've made it with half the sugar the recipe calls for & used organic dehydrated cane juice rather than refined white sugar and it worked fine- and I've also made it with honey instead of sugar, used some pomegranate juice & orange juice, and even maple syrup will work to sweeten. All work pretty well, just be sure to taste it and add more sweetener as necessary. I feel most traditional cranberry sauces are too sweet anyhow but you don't want to serve up anything too tart to guests :)
