I identify completely, having overcome very severe TN. It was the body scans and mindfulness meditations and breathing etc that helped me too, and I do at least one 20 min - if not 2 meditations each day to keep my system calm.
But listening to all your advice Dan, taking brave steps to live life, breathing, focusing on positives, how I respond to issues etc etc I now have my life back. I knew I had nothing wrong in my body. Many thanks.

Thank you Kate for sharing your story, one of my absolute favourites so far (across many forums!). I needed to hear this having suffered from TN for quite some time. And Dan thank you for sharing yet another TN story, so important to break out of that idea (that I had anyway!) that TN is some kind of ‘special’ pain category that won’t respond to mindbody approaches. You’ve covered so much ground here that I can relate to wholeheartedly. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you and Kate putting yourself ‘out there’.

By the way that’s not to say that for some people there may be something physical wrong (so yes get it checked out), but for many I have no doubt psychological / emotional factors play a large part in causing and/or exacerbating this pain.

    • @Heathper1214
      @Heathper1214 2 місяці тому +1

I agree. I was diagnosed at the beginning of the year and until the end of June (when I found this channel), I thought there was no way that mindbody approaches could touch this condition. It gives me hope hearing from other people with this condition who have found light at the end of the tunnel. I pray I do as well; I've been finding myself vacillating about whether I really believe this is TMS and whether I can really commit to treating it as such, without the physical interventions.

Know the triggers - symptoms are here to protect us - the brain perceives danger - what did u just think about? What did u just agree to. You need lots of love and feeling safe. Breathing - i dont have to believe all my thoughts - negative news negative social media is making me sick. It makes me very angry and afraid. I dont have to busy all the time - i can relax my nervous system. There us nothing to worry about. Calm down. Stop judging and blaming yourself. I feel my headache subsiding just by writing this. Stop juding and blaming yourself.

It is quite possible that the autoimmune is a result of spending a lot of time in the fight or flight response. It is well known that when in the stress response, the immune system gets suppressed. There is no downside, only benefit, to this approach of teaching your brain you are safe. When I fell before this past Christmas at work - I said there is a reason for this.
I was working too much exhausting myself ( I pick the days I want to work. Or not. Substitute teacher )
I had all of the X-rays and MRI and was in chronic pain. Not working at all.
I realize now that the reason was because 1-I was exhausted and needed to slow down. And 2- to change my life.
This is what Dan’s concepts have done for me.
I first read a book that basically told me that YOU are not your brain. Your brain is a computer inside of YOU ! ( spiritual book)
Being the research fanatic that I am, I began to explore the cause of chronic pain and the brain, etc.
this led me to Dan and I had immediate results when I implemented the Concepts !!!
I actually surprised myself, and the people around me now even think that I was faking the terrible pain that I was in for months !
Not only do I have no pain in my body, but my whole outlook on life has changed, and I am so peaceful.
The only frustration I have is watching and listening to people in pain and knowing that most of them will not “get it “
I feel like I found the secret to a long, healthy and happy and peaceful life.
Dan is a genius and a saint for helping so many people ! 👍❤️

Learning how the brain works has helped me to feel calmer and I am able to handle stressful situations more calmly.
I no longer worry about “ aging “ and getting sick or feeling any pain in my body.
I gave up coffee - since I realized I’m sensitive to caffeine also.
      I don’t have anxiety anymore.
I always told my girls that their brains are very powerful ! That if they don’t control it. It will control you !!!
I have a whole different mindset and feel sorry for people who suffer in pain and don’t realize where it is originating.
I’ve always been grateful for everything I have and found joy in small things. Everyday.
But now I’m smiling more and even a “bad” day is a good day for me- because I have my health. No meds for me !!! :)
      Dan is an amazing teacher!
      ( coming from a teacher ) 👍

Dear Dan, ive been hesitant to ask this here but my problem is that i suffer from extreme anxiety paired with cardiac neurosis. I suffer daily from chestpain, armpain, panic attacks and shortness of breath since more or less 7 years. While I had the standard check ups done when i went to the ER several times, they could never diagnose a heart attack or something similar. Ive been medicalized heavily by the system and have been diagnosed with general anxiety disorder. My problem with tms now is, that due to the symptoms i have, which are daily lifethreatening, my mind is not able to rule in tms. Its simply impossible. A heart attack can always occur and im at a higher risk due to my life choices and so on and with the symptoms pointing to it nearly daily im frozen. While u always say rule out the lifethreatening im here to ask how to rule out the unoutruleable. I just have given up hope. Thanks in advance.

It appears u have to KNOW u are safe deep in your heart - so many messages of danger in the world and around us and lack of support - is why it can be difficult for many. I was an overachiever my worth came from being busy active and constantly learning new things - the truth is 🚫 no one is really impressed with it all - being kind and compassionate to yourself and others is where it is at. I also was bullied at most of my jobs which gave me pstd throughout my life.

Talking about TMS person characteristics mentioned "feel a fraud". I heard about an "imposter syndrome" and wonder if it has anything to do with TMS personality.
I came from a poor family, married young and then my family was poor and struggled with money and relationships issues. I wasn't very happy but haven't had TMS that time. Now for many years I have a good paid job doing what I'm good at. I quickly raised up a career ladder, recognized by my colleagues and clients and so on. I don't very like my work but it's not terrible either. Quite stressful though and I quickly developed TMS symptoms: head pain, then eyes soreness, then back pain and insomnia. At that point I freak out and it became chronic. I healed it with a TMS approach thanks to Dan. But now I struggle with digestive issues.
Anyway, back to the "imposter" topic. For the last few years I frequently have these dreams as If I'm not good enough, can't manage with my job and getting kicked off from it. Then my family have to move to my old small apartments and live in poverty again. When I wake up I almost believe it and have to spend some time realizing that it's just a dream, remembering who I'm now, what I achieved. It's as if I have 2 different lives: one in the moment and another old life in my dreams. It's as if my brain is trying to tell me, not only with symptoms but also with dreams that your life is a lie, you're a looser, not worthy of what you have.
Just a notice how TMS characteristics can start TMS madness and then fear makes it chronic.

Hi , glad you got better and be assure you will always be better day by day including improving the quality of your thoughts.
Guilt makes one feel *NOT GOOD ENOUGH* .
What is driving your feelings of GUILT?
Ask yourself that question and listen for the answer.
Your thoughts on the other hand, especially your dominant unconscious thoughts , contributions to the quality of sleep to your dreams.
Focus on rescripting your childhood stories. What had happened already happened and it happened, now so what. Tell yourself "am not that boy who lived on less , am a man who has and always had ENOUGH, because I am ENOUGH, I was always ENOUGH.
