Never an ‘um...’ or an ‘ah...’ . Remarkably articulate person, maybe the last example of the one cultural benefit that hostility to homosexuals produced - the ability to experience and analyze society from outside it. Great art in many genres has come from this unique perspective.

Just like Oscar Wilde before and Morrisey since - Quentin wanted to be adored from afar.
America was the perfect foil - in England we've always had the upper class twit, the village idiot and a stream of curiosities. Where as in America Quentin would always be the unique English curiosity and thus quench his need to be 'looked over' and never 'overlooked'.

vordman Attraction (or likability) toward a man doesn’t depend on the man's sexuality. Women can be attracted to gay men either on the basis of their looks and/or because they are relatable. It does not translate logically that those men are therefore closet heterosexuals.

An attention seeker. The local library sold his book in a sale and muggins bought it. It was a world within a world: population 1. Admittedly, his writing is better than average, sometimes deft, so I finished it. In the book I found him self obsessed and indifferent towards others. Basically it had no soul.
