    All this fuss for a cheese and wine party when in more modern times the cheese and wine parties I’ve gone to consist of glasses of chilled white wine with a selection of cheeses and crackers which all takes just a few minutes to put on the table!

    I applaud Fanny's unique adoption of a Dickensian child labour squad to help her out on the byuffay cuisine production line. Poor Peter really looks quite wary!

      They were! I watched on youtube " Fear of Fanny" starring Julia Davis which shows how strict Fanny was with the young helpers!

      It was only 1970, colour tv took a few years to be rolled out fully in the U.K. That’s if you could afford the TV and the license.

      I think it was around 1973 before most people had colour tvs.

    1970? If this was on the BBC and made in London, wouldn't it have been made in colour and easily recoverable using the chroma dot technique? Or was this a "home" recording?

    What is remarkable is how she manages not only to make the most unappetising dishes from good ingredients, but accompany it with an incomprehensible running commentary. Oh yes, and the snobbery.

    Its sad she had to hide her life so much but back then the times were different. She was a lesbian that married a gay man. Just goes to show times dont change other than being legal, /,illegal

    • @londonlady227
      @londonlady227 5 місяців тому +1

      She was married before Johnny as well. I don't know about the lesbian part.

    • @CraigTulloch
      @CraigTulloch Місяць тому +2

      Ive never heard about this lesbian side of her. She wasn’t married to Johnny for very long. Most of their time together they lived together as an unmarried couple with her changing her name by deed poll as she was still married to her previous husband. She saw his obituary in a newspaper then married Johnny in a civil ceremony only to discover several weeks later that the obituary was for a man with the same name as her previous husband. This meant she was in a bigamous marriage with Johnny Cradock, which was actually her second bigamous marriage in her life. She was quite an unconventional woman.
