    Excellent interview and I think the interviewer does a very good job at facilitating Quentin in getting his message and ideas across. And unlike many chat shows Quentin gets a decent amount of time to do so. A very enjoyable and enlightening interview. Thanks for making this available!.

    I dont know if it was the way tv shows where at that time, but interrupting the guest in the middle of an answer, or cutting that answer to go to a break is very, very rude, its amazing Mr Crisp didnt get up and out of the set...

    I must say, I like this interview! I have watched others interview Quentin Crisp, and I think she asks him the best questions. They are personal, deep questions, and she seems very understanding of his hardships in merely being able to live as his authentic self, especially before he moved to NY.

    Diana has been presenting a public access show for years. She likely has an incredibly interesting library of past editions featuring fascinating interviews with unique and interesting people of all sorts.
    Quentin was very intriguing as a subject. Nicely conducted interview.

    Don't understand the problem some people have with this interviewer. Diana Montford chose to have Mr Crisp on her show to help give him a voice. She did a fine job. Being a Transgendered Activist herself, I am sure she understood Mr Crisp very well indeed.
    Further reading to be found here:
    www.gothamgazette.com/civil-rights/1619-transgender-rights
    People like Sylvia Rivera were among those who led the fight at the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion that sparked the modern gay movement and that is commemorated with a Fifth Avenue parade each year on the last Sunday in June. But for many years, "the gay and lesbian rights movement found us an embarrassment," said *Diana Montford, a transgendered activist who has been the host of her own cable show (on Time-Warner's channel 57, Wednesdays at 3 PM) since 1990* "Now we're fed up," she said, "just like at Stonewall."
    *Montford said that she still gets "dirty looks" from some people, including gay men* But she was recently honored by Public Advocate Mark Green at his annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride ceremony at City Hall. At his pride fest, Comptroller Alan Hevesi honored Melissa Sklarz, the first transgendered person elected to public office in New York -- judicial delegate -- in 1999.

      Montford was being rude to Crisp because he wouldn't allow himself to be manipulated into saying anything hostile about those who disagree with his lifestyle. Montford chose to have him on the show evidently to put him on the grill. Montford could and should have learned something about civility from Quentin Crisp, but I doubt that Montford is even open to the concept of that.

    "join the majority"
    Why do some humans think that other humans, who love the same gender as themselves...can't or aren't a part of the majority?
    Just because someone is in love with someone of the same sex or only has sex with their same gender DOES NOT mean that they are not 1) a part of society
    2) worthy of all the benefits of life

    I have to agree this is a sterile interview. She doesn’t understand Crisp’s irony, stoicism and wit. She interrupts him constantly and is trying to push her agenda onto him rather than really listening to what he is saying and what he is meaning. Although he is graceful, polite and tolerant as always it is clear he is bored and irritated. Who can blame him? There are a few interesting questions and points that arise, often by chance, but she manages to almost make Crisp dull and dreary, which he certainly never was.

    Woah...I really don't think this woman understands Quentin Crisp at all...she obviously comes from the egocentric school (quite a popular one in america even today) in which individuals take credit for wider societal movements or trends of which they may merely be a small part. The thing with Crisps 'revolution' as it were is that it is the quietly personal. To be true to yourself regardless of place or the wider world. Also Crisp and the war on drugs era...very strange bedfellows.

      @BelatedCommiseration 11 місяців тому

      @@Gram820 As it happens I didn't know that...but, so what? How does that in any way contradict my comment above? Does being a transgender woman preclude one from being egocentric? Or, from misunderstanding something about the way another person may conceive of, or 'present' themselves? I identified her by the way she has chosen to present herself in my comment...so I don't really understand how the fact that she is, or isn't, a transgender woman really has any relevance to my general point? Does being transgender automatically give you immediate understanding and sympathy with all peoples? Would that life were that simple, dear.
