    Absolutely spellbinding as to how many Morin khuur compositions end on the “neighing” note. Truly an unbelievable sound

    • @munchfive5691

      It's beautiful. And even cooler when you realize that the instrument is essentially called a "horse harp"

    • @sledgetable172
      @sledgetable172 2 роки тому +6

      The legends says that the instrument was made from a horse, so the neighing might be to honor the horse

    • @globetrekker86
      @globetrekker86 2 роки тому +5

      @@sledgetable172 Both legends are incredible, with one of them having a bit more positivity:
      The first is about a man traveling on his winged horse to see his girlfriend. A jealous woman (probably a crazy ex) cut off the wings, and the horse plummeted to its death. The man then carved a fiddle out of the horse’s body.
      The second legend has a shepherd boy carving a fiddle out of his horse’s body, after it passed away from more natural causes. That way, he ensured they’re always together in spirit

    This is how it should be, people sharing each other's cultures and appreciating one another, not each side isolating itself and shouting "cultural appropriation".

    • @1234kalmar
      @1234kalmar 5 років тому +74

      There is a huge difference betwee nsharing cultures and cultural appropriation. If you immerse yourself in someone else's culture, and respect the meaning of things, that's positive.
      Not giving a fuck about what means what just using stuff for commercial value "Cuz it's cool" is cultural appropriation. That's what people have issues with. Like the "Indian Halloween costum". The feather head-dress has a meanin,g and so do it's decorations.

      So fun fact, the reason why the modern morin khuur sounds so much like a cello is because of necessity. Originally, the top was a tightly stretched skin, like a banjo. The tension is pretty consistent in an environment like mongolia, but can change when you travel abroad with it, so a european violin maker was hired to redesign the instrument, resulting in what we have now

    "mesmerizing locals" well maybe cause they can appreciate the music ? No one is born a master of any form of art, it comes through work and training... They can appreciate that a foreigner is practicing their art in a good way, maybe if it's not perfect, by good i mean "positive".
    When you approach a traditional form of art, you can do it the schoolish way, learn learn learn and have no sensitivity or not even like what you do. But this guy is there, in their company, having a pleasing time without any pretention.
