That is a true statement. He is really shot out of a cannon as the show begins. The small problem is he's busier than Bonham, and when your bandmates are Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, given a choice, sometimes it's okay to play it straight rather than fill up any nanosecond that's empty. For example, good things tended to happen in the brief time that Buddy Miles played with Hendrix, as opposed to the busier Mitch Mitchell. That comment aside, I'm loving all these Page/Plant videos from the mid-90s resurfacing, and, given that Page and Plant are middle aged on those tours, having a powerhouse drummer to provide extra energy isn't all bad, either.
Yea he played his ass off with PnP! He wasn't a Bonham copycat which is what alot of people expected, and probably wanted to some extent, but instead he was a whole different animal. A hell of a drummer in his own right doing a great job of filling some impossible to fill shoes! He never got the credit he deserves in my opinion. If he is mentioned its usually just to compare him to John Bonham which is about as unfair as it gets. I always thought he was awesome and brought alot of energy as well, Page is at his best when being pushed and pulled around by a great drummer!
Michael Lee played some amazing up tempo drumming. However drummers who play with these 2 fellas Page and Plant tend NOT to have long life spans unfortunately. RIP John and Michael.
This is easily the best Jimmy played since about 1973. I think he was ticked off that some guitarists and fans thought he was all washed up. Man he plays with soul here. He rocks!
agreed, after zep his skills went south for a long time (for many reasons) on this tour he got much of his talent back and hasn't played as well since. Anyone that saw Zep in the 70's should count themselves lucky as there will never be anything like that again.
Hi. I had a small music shop. I used to sell cassettes. I'm 53 now. They were the most important famous people I met in my life. They were so normal, sincere and gentlemen. No complimants or anything. We talked for about 20-25 minutes and drank tea with Robert. After the concert was finished I tried to learn where do they would stay in.Next day I waited by the hotel. When Robert went out I kissed him and hugged him. He Asked me about the previous day's concert performance.I said time passed so fast like a dream. I said I came about 1000 km from my town to İstanbul for the concert he said please drive carrefully. I took LZ 3 LP and they signed the LP's.While I was waiting for Jimmy, he was shopping at a peddler who sold cheap imitation watches near the hotel street. I talked to him for 5-6 minutes. He was also gentleman, sincere like a normal person. I loved them more because they are the most important band of history (according to me) and so normal people like a teacher or friends. Sorry for my poor english. LZ is the most honorable band of history because when Bonzo died, they finished Led Zeppelin in the most popular period. They could find another drummer but they didn't choose this way because some things are more important than money. I am proud of myself to meet these priceless people I met.Thank god for creating Led Zeppelin and Ahmet Ertegün (the Turkih Manager who discovered them) Hope they will live long and happily I wrote this in about 30-40 minutes. Bye.
Please no need to apologize for your English! It's great and it's your 2nd language be proud of yourself and keep moving forward using it as much as you can, it's the best way to get better at it, but I'm already impressed with what I see here! I wish I could kiss your hand and huge you like you got to huge Robert and Jimmy! What a honor and a chance of a life time, I'm so jealous of your opportunity! I've noticed in my many yrs of being a fan, that they are much more approachable these days than before when they were young. The older they got the more they appreciated us fans and that we never meant to hurt them or take their privacy away, only to thank them on how much their music truly meant to us! Even though I'm a straight man and been this way for my whole life i still love Robert and think he is still the sexist man a live! You are so lucky meeting them both, I can't get over that fact! Thanks for sharing your fantastic story!
I'm glad for your nice words. You've made me happy.I'm 61 and go on own shop in my shop İN Turkey Adana and still enjoy LZ. Today began the day listening in my time of... I agree. Granted Page isn't as technically proficient as the Malmsteens of the world, but I always thought that was probably due to wanting to focus on songwriting rather than technical ability. What good is being technically flawless if no one wants to listen to what you're playing?

A lot of comments on here about Jimmy's playing. Not only could he write songs, he played with attitude and had a variety of styles which is more than 99% of guitarists can say. Sloppy? It's a matter of perspective, who wants to listen to those guys who just play scales fast and flawlessly? No thanks. Page is the best guitarist in history - my opinion - shut up if you don't like it.
Wow what a effing awesome show! I saw the epic show they did in 95' at the Gorge, it was so surreal for me and so lucky to be there! Now this show was maybe just a little better? Only for the fact of the songs they choose, hearing Jimmy play Heartbreaker was over the top and showed just how damn good his still was then! I need an IV of this. Could listen to this 24/7. The power and magic between Page and Plant brings to us true Zep fans, continual, deeply felt climatic highs and lows that resonate every cell in our minds and bodies. The majestic beauty these two (and Led Zep) were blessed so much to a point as a foursome, I can't imagine any other band could ever achieve the innate talents that the four Led Zep achieved, and rock out, and collapsed into bliss, every stadium they ever stepped foot on. Awesome job by Michael Lee! Nice job by Philip Andrews too.

I saw The Song Remains The Same on the big screen n I thought it gray at the time I thought Page was the best guitarist in the world until I saw Randy Rhodes but this is fantastic thank you for posting n thank Page n Plant for making it possible This is Jessie Cristy husband God bless us all 💕🙏
A much higher quality copy of this show has been around for a long time now but something about the lo-fi visuals of this VHS rip are just very cozy and nostalgic
Love watching Michael Lee. He played with such reckless abandon. R.I.P. I wish the sound quality was better on this, because they are nailing every song!
All energy, no subtlety. That's why I can't stand him. No swing or groove either. Plus that fucking marching drum snare. He ought to have been banished for such a bad choice.
@@andrewgraeme8429 I'm happy for you. Great no. Amazing how people want to put Lee as one of the greats. Bonzo WAS great. Mike was just as I said above. All energy, no subtlety. Nowhere near one of the greats. Sorry kids.

I saw this concert in Oklahoma city in 98. Was able to take my 17 yr old son. No it didn't sound exactly like Zeppelin but it sounded great! They seemed like they where having fun and we dug the performance!
Yeah man!! I'm from Canada and I was doing some backpacking across Europe for about 6 years. The UK and Ireland was my last set of countries and then going back to Canada in November 98'. I was just leaving Dublin, but wait!! I noticed a poster showing Led Zeppelin. I had to go!! I believe I purchased the tickets at the HMV Record Store. I remember arriving there really early just so I can be at the front and YES! There I was, first row man!! It was freakin' AMAZING!! PROBABLY THE BEST CONCERT EVER!! I HONESTLY THINK THIS CONCERT IS AT THE POINT, IN DUBLIN, IRELAND. ISN'T IT???
I saw them at The Reading Festival that year and it was a near religious experience and the crowd just exploded.Shame the Led Zep tour never happened after Celebration Day. I saw Robert Plant last month at Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire,England and he was still superb live! Very sad to hear about Michael Lee though and he was a brilliant drummer...R.I.P.
I was honoured to play with Page and Plant in Egyptian Pharaohs Band the show starts with the great and lovely song of Um Kolthom and music writer Riyd Elsonbaty
This is a great concert sure Plant can’t hit the high high notes anymore but he is outstanding has a great voice. And Page was pretty much Page Brilliant player and if anyone says these guys can’t play anymore they don’t understand much.Michael was so good on the drums didn’t hit as hard as Bonzo but really who could but he sounded great.
To mr.charles.many thanks for posting the magic band that ever graced my life.youwould'nt happen to know if page plant tours from Irvine Meadows ampitheater,Pacific ampitheater, are out there I worked as aguitar tech on these and out rider both firm tour shows I both venues.thanks for such great music posted .I on had girl friends reorder these shows I searching for but the first thing that disappear Ed was them with tapes thanks Brian lemasters.
this is from the "riding into Clarksdale" period, one of my favorite albums. they do a great job on the Zep covers too, but that album will always hold a special place for me. doesn't matter to me whether page in his later years can still shred like he used do. his riffs go along ways, and its his composing ability as a whole that I like best.
... the concert was in cologne Germany (Köln)... I was there... still remeber the intro as it was today... and the rain... ... I coud feel it... magic ain t it?
The intro is from a song of the legend Um Kalthoum of Egypt .. the song called the Sacred Trilogy composed by the great musician Riyadh Al Sonbaty .. the whole thing and to see Led Zeppelin my favorite band ever using it as the intro just makes me so proud to be Egyptian
25:47 - from this monent I've understood... that many things were ruined in my life, many sides of life don't touch me now, like before, in my youth... But this is still touching. When Plant have appeared in several seconds, I've felt this exactly.
Jimmy knows he's so great he takes the bow at the bottom position because he wants the young ones to be center in the bows. Such a generous man who can put his ego aside. That is amazing

Michael Lee is just relentless!! Just killing it. Doing it his own way and serving the song at the same time. RIP dear drum brother.

Thanks for posting! I was there at this concert! So great to see Page and Plant live !!! Please come back on stage !
By far the best guitar I've ever seen. And Percy is spot on.
Man they sound great I like Black Sabbath but Zeppelin is like a spiritual experience. I saw The Song Remains The Same on the big screen n I thought it gray at the time I thought Page was the best guitarist in the world until I saw Randy Rhodes but this is fantastic thank you for posting n thank Page n Plant for making it possible This is Jessie Cristy husband God bless us all 💕🙏
1.26 RİP Mr.Lee .Thanks God I've met and kissed you in İstanbul.
Ошеломляющий концерт ! . . Шедевр музыкального искусства ! ! !❤️
Согласна с Вами! А Пейдж и Плант - гении в музыкальном мире!
Jimmy in the mid 90's had really gotten his mojo back...
A much higher quality copy of this show has been around for a long time now but something about the lo-fi visuals of this VHS rip are just very cozy and nostalgic
This drummer living out my and every other drummers dreams right here.
Love watching Michael Lee. He played with such reckless abandon. R.I.P. I wish the sound quality was better on this, because they are nailing every song!
Michael Lee was a beast on those drums.
He was no slouch, great energy..RIP.
Sorry kids.
Stephanie Sandlin
🤦🏻♂️👀👆🏻
Jealous much!?
@@zoso1980 youve got great ears if you can single out that snare on UA-cam audio probably played through a phone. Not disagreeing w you but I never noticed
Saw them on this tour with my mom I was 18 zeppelin has been my favorite band for a long time they are truly the best band of all time I wish John Paul jones and bonzo would have been with them
Michael Lee is great drummer!!! R.I.P
1.26.44. Michael Lee.You were the one of the best drummers of the world.I've chat with you in İstanbul tour in 1998.And you all signed my album LZ3.rip.
Emin Kurnaz you want to sell your autographs ??
Thank you for sharing... pure gold
I saw this concert in Oklahoma city in 98. Was able to take my 17 yr old son. No it didn't sound exactly like Zeppelin but it sounded great! They seemed like they where having fun and we dug the performance!
Saw them on this tour in Kansas City
..a thousand thumbs up!
Nashville 98, they did Going to California, everybody sang with Plant, it was like a dream.
michael lee was a monster rock and roll drummer
He really worked them skins hard!!! A fine drummer. RIP
Probably better drummer than Jason Bonham.. personally
@@dougsawyer3285 I agree with you 100%
Saw Page and Plant in Dublin in 1998. For any Zeppelin fan, this tour was UNBELIEVABLE. 15 feet away from Jimmy Page at The Point theatre,
Jimmy gave me and my girl back then a thumbs up that night when we were toward the front during No Quarter.
Bring on home Mint!!!!Rocking Jimmy Page & Robert Plant!!!! ALL OF MY LOVE ❤️🔥🕊️⭐❤❤⭐⭐⭐⭐ LET'S GO....🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴❤️🔥
I was honoured to play with Page and Plant in Egyptian Pharaohs Band the show starts with the great and lovely song of Um Kolthom and music writer Riyd Elsonbaty
Wayne Soveran
Amen God rest Michael Lee, take# me back to 4th November Glasgow SECC 1998, I managed to get the bootleg version of that ✌🏻
😮 Michael Lee on drums playing like an animal he make Bonzo 😊. What a Fantastic Concert it was Thank you Page+ Plant Zeppelin Rules any Generation.
Saw this tour! It was FABULOUS!!
Wife and I took our young sons (14+10) to see this tour. A great experience for all ;{)
Took my sister and her daughter to see them in 98 the same tour she was 17 and is still a big fan.
... the concert was in cologne Germany (Köln)...
@@walidkamalamin7755 lovely comment brother and respect to legend Oum Kultum
25:47 - from this monent I've understood... that many things were ruined in my life, many sides of life don't touch me now, like before, in my youth... But this is still touching. When Plant have appeared in several seconds, I've felt this exactly.
This tour was fantastic. Albany, thanks for hosting
25 years ago .... still goosebumps.
Jimmy is the MASTER OF THE STRINGS!!!!!!!
Jimmy knows he's so great he takes the bow at the bottom position because he wants the young ones to be center in the bows. Such a generous man who can put his ego aside. That is amazing
This still being real music in 2024
I was backstage at this show, it was amazing
where was this concert?
I saw this tour. Birmingham, AL. 6th row. I won the tickets from a radio station.

Michael lee ❤te amo .dejaste esta tierra muy pronto
I saw them on this tour in Texas.....a truly religious experience. Such a magical sort of voodoo that materializes when these two guys play together.
I was at the Detroit show on the first night :) Epic!!
RIP Michael Lee
In Indy about this time he was spot on. Perfect not sloppy at all. His acoustic work that night was impressive as well.
His acoustic skills are scary good
Also Robert Plant 🪴 is a very uncommon phenomenon with his rarely very strong voice getting to very high octaves 🆙🆙🆙🆙⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️🎵🤟🏿 .
Michael Lee ....Amazing!! R.i.P.
Gallows Pole is utterly beautiful!!🙏💜
