Your tour is really great to watch! I'm from Montana so I've never experienced New York. That record store is right up my alley! It would be interesting to film your journey there also.
Hi Brendon always love to check and walk into record shops spent many weekends of my youth and even weekdays for that matter looking to find that hard to find treasure thank you so much for this tour
Niiiice! I consider myself lucky as in downtown Brussels (15m drive from me), there are approx 12 record stores all within walking distance. Mostly second hand stores with cd's & Lp's, but a couple of bigger stores too. Nothing beats finding a great record in a physical store! Cheers!
I prefer the user stores to the new ones because there is more opportunity for rare albums to be found. Glad you have 12 stores! That’s far more than I have.
@@BrendonSnyder I have to say I like to have both: the second hands for the rare albums (or cheaper versions of some albums or...), and regular stores for new releases and classic albums. Always nice to be able to choose. I was surprised when I went to NYC to only find the one store, not that I searched a lot a lot, but I was expecting at least 2 or 3 stores within the same area. Cheers!
Been to New York Manhattan only once. I was surprized by the lack of record stores fur such a big and popular place. There are many more (including used) in my hometown Milan in Italy which is way smaller.
We used to have a lot more but they closed up hear several years before they started closing everywhere else. Things operate very differently in big cities but every more so in NYC. It’s a place unto itself.
Hi Daniele, i went to Manhattan in 2022 and i found out exactly what you are saying, i was surprised by that lack too. There are more record stores in Buenos Aires (my home town) than in Manhattan… Cheers!
@@BrendonSnyder that's wonderful. It gives you a real idea of the specializations of each store. Who knows, might order from them. Rough Trade is international of course.
I was in New York on a school trip to see Wicked back in April, and I managed to con my group chaperone into bringing us here. I walked out with a 1968 first press of Jeff Beck's Truth
The thing that stood out most for me was in the first few seconds - Mon-Sun 10-8. First wow a record shop open on a Sunday all day, and second wow, a shop open on a Sunday at 8pm! Different culture, over in Europe, Sundays are still different with limited opening. Anyhow the shop looked cool, couldn’t make out the prices but looked interesting.
You also need to hit up Academy Records, Generation Records, and a new place I found called Bookoff. It’s a gaming store but in the back it has tons of CD’s.
@@BrendonSnyder I'll keep them in mind - I went to Generation in the summer but haven't been to Academy in ages and I should check out that new place too.
@@BrendonSnyder Update: I visited Rough Trade a few days ago and had a good experience - picked up Iggy Pop's Live At The Channel Boston (colored splatter vinyl) as well as Motorhead's Ace of Spades. I also used the photo booth for a fun keepsake.
I like that punky sounding band that's playing the background during your vinyl hunting session at the beginning. Again, I see a lot of records I own. As you were going through the CDs, I saw two from Metz. They are a Toronto "noise rock" band and they rock! Cool record shop. I was in NYC twice in the late 90's and early 2000's, pre 9/11. Luckily my buddy from Queens was my tourguide, and took me to so many really amazing places that I will never forget.
I love the record stores that you go to and film as well. If you ever go to Brooklyn there's a record store in Park Slope called Fifth Avenue Record Shop. It's great!
I used to work at 50 Rock Pl when I lived in NY. I would have loved to have had a store like that to go to at lunch though I'd probably have been late getting back a lot.
I know right! The other Old School Record store video I posted on Academy Records, I worked down the street from them for 20 years and sometimes went twice a day. It was my favorite lunch time hang out spot. They would text me if something rare came in and I could run down and pick it up. I was so sad when my office relocated and now I’m more like 10 blocks away and in the opposite direction of a comment too. Oh well, times change, right.
@@BrendonSnyder Oh, if I was that close to Academy I'd have done the same and gone there at lunch, and on the way home every day. I used to really like that place. Times do change, that's for sure. There's no stopping it.
There are actually quite a few but different ones specialize in different types of music and not always the kind I’m interested in. I know of about 6 that are fairly good and still sell CD’s.
They had a few one dollar used records the other day I was there. The strangest used record, though, was a Glen Campbell album for $25, "Gentle On My Mind".
Yeah these days vinyl is pretty pricy. I’d love to see them add a used section for more reasonable prices as well as albums that haven’t been reissued.
Well I was checking out the Amazon top hundred and saw Dion at forty seven so I checked out it's called stomping ground he has anice lineup on it billy gibbons Springsteen peter frampton Eric Clapton and alot more I may order it next month last time I heard him was on the art of mccartney and he sounded good

First. A nice experience, thanks. I wanted to ask, do yo have vintage rock magazines? I'm trying to find a Circus magazine issue with a list about the greatest heavy metal albums, it was controversial because number one was Sex Pistols but I would like to see the rest again. I only remember Queen I, Van Halen I, but can't remember the rest. Would make an interesting video.
I wish it was 1980 all over again….mostly because I can’t remember it since I was only 4 yrs old 😂….but I’d love to go back and enjoy the decade all over again.

Looks like a cool shop. That said, I'll still never understand the resurgence of vinyl. Why would anybody want to spend 2X or 3X the price of a CD to get lesser sound quality in a larger/more fragile medium? I keep hearing that there's a CD resurgence coming. Can't wait. And how much did you want to alphabetize their CDs?? I get that they're trying to get you to dig, but having the CDs in no order at all just shows the lack of focus on them. Ugh...
Yeah I don’t get the resurgence in vinyl either. As a nostalgia thing it’s cool. And when there are albums on vinyl that never got pressed to CD, I’ll buy those. But I won’t be replacing my CD’s. And hopefully by the time CD’s are stopped being sold completely….I will have bought them all! 😂

No, for the channel I only cover bands I listen to. That’s because my channel focuses on lots of factual info about each band. If I don’t listen to the band I won’t know anything about them and therefore can’t speak about them properly. So I stay clear of talking about bands I’m not into.
Yeah it’s pretty pricy nowadays. It’s unfortunately as vinyl used to be the cheap solution and now it’s come full circle. Maybe CD’s will return one day.
