It is so hard to tell exactly how it's going to turn out when it's rough, but you imagined it and you got it totally right. Thanks for showing it to us.
I was amazed that she was able to save that area. It makes the vase. Very unique looking in. The gray is absolutely beautiful. Good work. Thank you for sharing.
That is a gorgeous wood with deep grains that have a golden hue to them. When you turn that vase upside down it looks like a mama dove hiding in the tree. That’s what I saw. Very cool!
Such a cool feature you saved, Gary! Nature produces it and you save it. Very cool looking wood. Beautiful grain and color and man, when you hit it with the shellac, boom! Always love that part! Nice job on the planning for this piece with your adjustable mount for awhile. You make it look easy-easy, my friend! Great job, buddy, keep'em coming! 😊 Phil
Thank you Phil. It would have been fun to send this to you and see what it would have become. But not as fun as me turning it LOL. Such a strange piece and just sat there waiting its turn to be turned. Thanks for your inspiration to do things like this and thanks for watching my friend, Gary
Thank you Tim. I appreciate hearing you do not mind if it is sped up as long as you get some real time at the beginning of the cut. Otherwise it can become a very long video. Thanks for watching and commenting. Gary

Good afternoon, Gary. Your mounting of the piece was very creative. Then the turning went just as planned. I love it when a plan comes together. Beautiful wood and a gorgeous turning. Wowzer.
Thanks so much Ray. I just had to take a chance and it sure looked like it would work. Getting it all to blend into a nice shape was the only concern. But it all worked out. Thanks for watching my friend, Gary
Thank you Doug. I have turned about all I got back when I got this piece. I loved turning all of it. The first piece I turned was an emerging bowl. The bowl emergent out of a branch with a crotch. The wood was fantastic. It was before I got a much better camera and got more relaxed making videos but have a look: ua-cam.com/video/5CuaAZ9PenM/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ThePapa1947
Thank You Gary... Very good example of how to position/offset wood between centers so as to enhance what you want to save and what you want to turn off. I do not think I would know a Mimosa tree if I saw one and I will need to look that tree up to sharpen my eye. ... The grain kind of reminds me of Ash with more color to it. Your vase turned out very nice and a unique piece with the natural tree personality TM
Thank TM. I never saw this tree when it was a tree but I sure like what the wood looks like. They are a very full looking tree but not all that big around from the ones I have seen growing. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thanks Jon. As soon as I figured out what I wanted to do with it I could hardly wait to get it turned. It was sure fun to do. Thanks for watching, Gary
Beautiful looking vase. Love the way you saved the feature in this piece. I turned a couple of pieces of mummossis some years back. Beautiful looking grain. Thanks for sharing Gary.
You’re right Gary, absolutely amazing! First of all that is beautiful wood grain, but the shape brings it all out. A great idea leaving that scar in there. I do love it! Cheers, Rick
Thank you very much Rick. I have been wanting to turn that piece for some time. Just did not want to cut the feature away. So I was able to keep it by making a slightly smaller diameter. Pretty happy with it and my wife likes it to put her roses in. Thanks for watching, Gary

Hey Gary just wondering what brand/type your hot glue is, I have used some that is sort of transparent which worked well but can’t find that one anywhere, I have a packet of glue sticks now that are a milky sort of colour and am having no luck at all with it holding, any suggestions. Regards Jim
Hi Jim. I have used many types of glue sticks and they all have worked. Actually some of the ones I really like came from Harbor Freight in a bulk pack. I have gotten some from Bi-mart (maybe a local store) that work good as well. I bought a new hot glue gun kit recently that came with a bunch of the long glue sticks. Probably the strongest I have used. I had to resort to a hot air gun to get the tenon off this turning but that worked great as well. Getting the glue as hot as it will get is very important to sticking. It has two heat settings and an on/off switch. Really Nice... I've never turned mimosa, but just acquired some small logs. I'm anxious to see what they will turn like when they dry some. Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work.
As always, you showed your great skills and imagination/design ideas! I didn't know that Mimosa had such a beautiful grain! Thank you so much for your videos
Thank you very much Lori. I had no idea but when I saw it free I looked it up and was sure hoping it looked like the photos I saw. And it sure did. Take care, Gary
Beautiful piece Gary, I am not familiar with Mimosa as I have never seen it here or in the stores unless it has another name! That vase has fantastic color and you turned it to perfection, well done and thanks! Cheers Al
Thank you Al. I doubt you would find it in any stores. Compared to other trees around here this is not found much. Something people love to have in their yards. Happy you liked the turning. Gary
Great looking vase Gary. I love your mounting method, I have a couple odd shaped pieces that I might try to mount this way. I tried your idea of using sanding dust and shellac to fill cracks and small voids, worked great. I always learn something from your videos, thanks for posting this one.
An outstanding piece. The feature on the side really makes the piece. For a while I was afraid you were going to cut into it. Your design is great as is the finish. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Thank you Glen! I stopped more times than you can imagine just to make sure I did not cut into it. That would have really made me sad. Happy you enjoyed the video. Gary
Nice job looks Awesome Gary! Love the color variation, don’t think I have ever seen mimosa wood worked up before, we have quite a few of those trees around, I may have to try some of that sometime 😎
I think I have a couple of smaller branches left from when I got this. And I have a nice bigger piece I will hang on for a bit. I hate to use it all up.
Nice work, Gary. Really shows how planning your work before you start cutting can help you get your desired results. The offset centers at the beginning allowed you to keep that inset while still letting you expose that really nice grain. Glad your shoulder is letting you use the lathe. How is the therapy coming?
Thank you very much. It is a fun process as well. Had my first PT visit this morning. Went well and I think they have a great plan. Thanks for asking and thanks for watching, Gary
Great video, thank you Gary. I love 'exploring' the wood when making bud vases to make anything but a round one! It is good fun to try to retain as much Nature as possible and you show us just how to do it in this video. I appreciate it when you explain your thinking as you progress the piece, it is most informative and useful, there is always something to learn!
Thank you very much David. I seldom have worked out how I want to turn a piece till I lay in on the bed of the lathe. I then talk it over in my head..sometimes out loud.(ask my wife in that one lol) Happy you enjoyed it.
I ordered a wen 14" x 20" lathe and it came in broken to pieces. so I'm waiting on the return credit so i can order another one.. i love the videos and can't wait to do my own work.. I'm highly inspired by your work...
It is so hard to tell exactly how it's going to turn out when it's rough, but you imagined it and you got it totally right. Thanks for showing it to us.
Thank you Kevin. It is nice when the plan turns out just the way you want. I was very happy with this one.

Oh pretty, Doug Miller turned a piece of mimosa. The grain patterns are fantastic.
Thank you Jane. I may have seen what Doug turned.
Mimosa is a real cool wood. Nice to come across these pieces for sure.

Amazing vase, good job editing. I like seeing the start of the cut in real time, then sped up to save the viewer's time.
Thank you Tim. I appreciate hearing you do not mind if it is sped up as long as you get some real time at the beginning of the cut. Otherwise it can become a very long video.
Thanks for watching and commenting.

Very unusual vase! Mimosa trees leave such a mess in the autumn. I'm so glad to see how pretty its wood is. Thanks Gary 😊

Gary, as usual you took a simple looking piece of wood and made a beautiful piece. You are indeed one of my teachers.
Thank you very much Patricia. Happy you enjoyed the video and thanks for your comments.

Mimosa is another beautiful wood. For sure on my top 5 American woods. It does make my sinuses go haywire. Beautiful little vase.
Thank you Doug. I think my sinus are so bad nothing effects them anymore. They are always messed up LOL
I have turned Mimosa myself an found it to be a very pleasant experience. Thanks for sharing that beautiful unique vase.

I love those kinds of turnings. Although, while I may know the exact species of wood, I always tell them it is "Classic American Suburban Yard Waste".
Thank you Michael. You nailed it on this being "Yard Waste" I think that is about the only place you will find it.

I think it was to make sure I kept up with my chores - and I did! But mimosa trees are so beautiful and I have happy memories of my time there. Really Nice... I've never turned mimosa, but just acquired some small logs. I'm anxious to see what they will turn like when they dry some. Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work.
Thank you Mark. I had one piece that was close to the root system that was real cool. But it is all nice.
Have fun with yours,
Gary
As always, you showed your great skills and imagination/design ideas! I didn't know that Mimosa had such a beautiful grain! Thank you so much for your videos
Thank you very much Lori. I had no idea but when I saw it free I looked it up and was sure hoping it looked like the photos I saw. And it sure did.
Take care,
Gary
Beautiful piece Gary, I am not familiar with Mimosa as I have never seen it here or in the stores unless it has another name! That vase has fantastic color and you turned it to perfection, well done and thanks!
Cheers Al
Thank you Al. I doubt you would find it in any stores. Compared to other trees around here this is not found much.
Something people love to have in their yards.
Happy you liked the turning.
Gary
Из куска дерева ты сделал искусство. Супер!
Большое спасибо и спасибо за просмотр,

Beautifully done! You are so talented. Much ❤
Thank you very much!
A beautiful piece nicely done as always 👍
Kind regards

Thank you very much William. I appreciate you watching.

Great looking vase Gary. I love your mounting method, I have a couple odd shaped pieces that I might try to mount this way. I tried your idea of using sanding dust and shellac to fill cracks and small voids, worked great. I always learn something from your videos, thanks for posting this one.
Thank you very much Gil. I do like sanding a bad piece that way. It can save what can look like a total loss.
Thanks again my friend,
Gary
Beautiful grain and hue; nice job. It would look nice with my Georgia O'Keeffe art collection; prints, of course.
Thank you very much. Your art collections sounds very nice.
Take care,
Gary
That turned out great Gary!!

Gary
I have some weed mimosas. You gave me something to think about. Thank you.
Thank you Martin. Let me know how it goes.
Gary

Nice job looks Awesome Gary! Love the color variation, don’t think I have ever seen mimosa wood worked up before, we have quite a few of those trees around, I may have to try some of that sometime 😎
Thank you Kimsey. I wish we had more. Some come down now and then. I heard they are messy.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
@@ThePapa1947 They do have lots of branches in every direction.
Very nice. When you pu your first oat of shellac I thought it was stain the way the wood turned such a dark color. Take care.
Thank you Lee. The wood was very dry and it just soaked it in and I noticed how dark it was at that point as well.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Beautiful vase! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching Fran.
Very beautiful. Thank you for the lesson.
Thank you Arnold and thanks for watching,

Interesting piece. I'll have to try offsetting a piece and see how it comes out.
Thank you Jim. It is sure something to keep in mind. I did it for an offset goblet I made a number of years ago.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Nice! I like mimosa wood too.
Thanks for asking and thanks for watching,
Gary

Thanks so much Denis...happy you liked it.

I then talk it over in my head..sometimes out loud.(ask my wife in that one lol)
Happy you enjoyed it.
Beautiful!!!!!! and as always great finish
All the best:)
Thank you Yiannis!
That is the most fascinating wood. So much going on between layers. Great treatment of that log and the feature, Gary!
Thank you Jay. It was sure a fun piece to turn.
Take care,
Gary
