    Anyone else noticed the insane kick back when he was cutting the runner strips? Saw shot that piece straight back because only the cut off was being supported. A sacrificial push stick (out of wood instead of plastic) that could support the work piece all the way through the cut would have prevented this.

  • @vb1gbg

    Please don't upgrade to a more powerful table saw until you learn how to safely use one. The piece between the fence and blade should be pushed past the blade to prevent kickback. Maybe its not so bad with the tiny saws, but a saw with enough horse power will make sure you don't make the same mistake twice.

    Uh, the cutting of the strips that sit in the miter slots was a big no no. They shouldn't be cut with the smaller width against the fence or else they'll kick back out at high speed like it did. If you have to do it this way, use a sacrificial push block to keep the end of the strip fully supported.

    • @OneWayToMake
      @OneWayToMake  2 місяці тому +2

      Thanks for the concern and advice, I totally agree a sacrificial push stick would have definitely been a smarter choice here. Kick back is no joke and we should always consider it while working. Thanks again for watching and for pointing that out!

    you can’t make a sled accountable by only attaching the back fence. You have to have a front fence as well even if it’s not square. Just to hold all the material together and accurate.
    Just watch William Ng, he is the inventor of the 5 cut method I believe. Just a formula for getting a sled accurate to .001. But don’t really worry about it on a saw like this. Cast iron cabinet saws are a much better option for your efforts.

    Think people missing the other point of the video he made it for a cutting a down a board but what’s beyond that for a sled? You can had a sled for repetition and multiple cuts of something. Yes their are different ways he could have gone about cutting what he had and y’all keyboard warriors going off and having tunnel vision and not thinking of the BENEFITS OF A SLED.

    Bro please learn how to safely cut with a table saw before you seriously hurt yourself. Remember, the off cut should not be against the fence. You can very easily cut that square edge on the panel with a normal hand saw or even a circular saw with a guide if you want to use power saws

      That’s a great question, yes I did say it was too big for the table saw, I made this sled so that I could cut larger pieces on the same table saw. This table saws fence only allows cuts up to 24” but with this sled I can safely make cuts up to around 40”. I hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

      I also spent 3 hours making a home made track saw and yes it also works great for cuts like this. This jig can do a few things slightly better, like ensure I get exactly 90 degrees and cut small pieces I can’t get a clamp on, but the track saw also does some things better then this sled. It’s always nice to have options! Thanks for watching!

    • @miket2120

      Cross cut sleds are great for smaller cuts, not just larger cuts. They're considered a must have if you use a table saw of any size.
      Also, track saws are still overpriced for the amount of use most DIYers would need them.
