Your comment about connected to the ground is correct, but you then said "bend the legs" which is not how to connect. Connection happens at the kua. The knees bend in response.
It is unclear where exactly Ba Gua is from! Apparently an Anonymous Taoist taught it to Dong Hai Chuan! But, Wu Dang Mountain in West Central China is said to be the birthplace of the Internal Art of Chinese Gong Fu like Tai Chi, Xing Yi, and Ba Gua!

How tall someone is or how much someone may bend their knee to get lower to the ground has nothing to do with root. I can stand up perfectly straight and have more root than someone who is in the lowest horse stance, b/c I am sunken and rooted internally.
Broken monkey: You have a point there. I have no clue on Ba Gua forms, therefor i dont consider myself to be in the position to critisize any form. I will ponder your comments carefully though. :)
Hiya Jake ( if you dont mind me using your first name), I came across your channel in search for the Hung Gar Tiger/Crane set. It so happens i have studied some years in Yang style taijiquan. From there i got interested in the BaGua art. :-) Glad you came along ! Cheers and thanks a bunch !
Actually, I am hearing some very good stuff in this video. The narrator shows great potential - he is still very muscular and athletic but his body will eventually relax, sink and proceed. We've all started on a path like this, particularly if you first studied something like karate - pretty well everybody who comes to Ba Gua has done other things. We just have adjust to the new reality, depending where we came from in the first place...
What do you think about wing tsun kung-fu? I'm about to join a local dojo in my community and want to know if you have any recommendations for better types of kung-fu/martial arts of this nature or if I'm wasting my time joining?
The style of Martial Arts doesn't matter. The most important thing is the person teaching it! Don't forget the teacher or master or sensei or whatever is not a God and is a normal person! Find someone who is talented, in good shape, fun, and has morals that you agree with! Then, go for it!!!
Tai Chi, Xing Yi, and Ba Gua are all "internal arts". but they have great diferences... do you think its possible to practice them all at the same time?(not exactly the same time, but ievery day of every week practice one of them...)
What u say maybe true. But its also important to keep people interested. As people and society changes, martial arts should be doing the same. There is merit to this master's teaching style.
Actually sir, Bagua can trace its roots to Guanghua Mt and the monks there. I lived at Wudang and they don't claim to be the originators of anything other than Tai Chi. :) Don't mean that in a rude or harassing way though, the origin of Bagua is something I have been digging into lately.
6:02... bagua will keep you focused during a zombie apocalypse. Holy shit. Or... you can just learn focus by playing a video game. Wait...because he is implying that you can spend years training bagua to achieve the mental focus of a kid in a restaurant playing a video game (and that kid did NO training) simultaneously saying that kid will be disturbed by nothing but bagua will let you be aware of everything around you...completely opposite of the kid example. Jeez, I'm really confused.
I don't know much about "Baguazhang"(just seen it preformed in the movie "The Grandmaster" aka Grandmasters) however, I did read an E-Book called "Baguazhang The Complete System Vol.1" by Erle Montaigue. He didn't show the 64 Hands just the basics though still its a very good book on internal style(like the "Dragon Form") I seen some of that in Jake's videos!
Whoever watching this video wondering if they can do it for airbending Believe me you can but you need meditation and a lot of practice I have done it without bagua, at that time i knew airbending as aerokinesis but now i knew both are same
He didn't say he studied Ba Gua for years, just taijiquan. My friend has studied tai chi for a few years and never knew about ba gua until I told him about it. I agree though that this video doesn't seem very traditional but there can always be tweaks to old styles. Why is his kung fu any better or worse than yours just because his is non traditional ba gua?
It is unclear where exactly Ba Gua is from! Apparently an Anonymous Taoist taught it to Dong Hai Chuan! But, Wu Dang Mountain in West Central China is said to be the birthplace of the Internal Art of Chinese Gong Fu like Tai Chi, Xing Yi, and Ba Gua!
It is totally clear where Bagua is from , it is from Tung Hai Tsuan, it was perpetuated by his top students. There are lineages, don't talk about what you don't know fakie lacie.

Thank you. Yes, everyone is great! It was during a flash flood last week! Now, we are getting new floors! So it's a blessing in disguise!!!
Being connected to earth sounds more like earth bending then air bending
Lol the martial art isn't based on avatar. Also all marital arts, especially Chinese gong fu is about rooting. Sinking chi.

So funny that I came here to learn airbending but he says to be rooted to the earth
Sorry guy's, no real bagua here!
I entered phoenixlongevityarts.com and Ublock blocked it for purported malware.

Amazing way to explain bagua, thank you

terrific video! love your energy, delivery and emphasis
Great Movie there was no story to it though 😜 but choreography was phenomenal
Thats terrible punch mechanic, your elbows are flaring out
When he started talking about the kinetic energy and how it best to stay on the ground all I could think about is Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Bruce Lee.
I’m here because of jet li actually lol

a body can appear strong and have no strength, look at fake lace.
Oh yeah!!!
oh yeah, what? oh yeah you forgot to actually learn anything even close to Bagua? chumple stiltskin.
Listen, I'm trying to be an air bender not earth bender
Tai Chi, Xing Yi, and Ba Gua are all "internal arts". but they have great diferences... do you think its possible to practice them all at the same time?(not exactly the same time, but ievery day of every week practice one of them...)
Yes, there are tied to the Japan/ Okinawa styles and can make better understanding in technique.
What u say maybe true. But its also important to keep people interested. As people and society changes, martial arts should be doing the same. There is merit to this master's teaching style.
I know right!!!
you don't know, you pretend to know. Empty body, empty mind and I mean empty in the case that it has no value.

This is a good start for Baguazhang!
For me and others it is because we're just Marital Artists.

it is not, this person has no idea what they are talking about.
