Sekiro is such a beautiful game. Much like you, I played it in 2019, didn’t get far, then quit and came back years later. The game is HARD. You have to rewire your brain for it. It can take HOURS before the gameplay clicks. But everyone I’ve talked to who beat the game has agreed that at some point, and it’s different for everyone, something just… clicks. In the middle of battle, you’re floundering, your HP is dropping, your stamina is breaking, and then suddenly everything just… makes sense. In a moment, the beautiful rhythmic motions of parry, dodge, attack all come together. It can be hard to reach that point, lord knows it isn’t for everyone. But there is truly nothing like it once it clicks.
I've put this game down and picked it back up and I don't think anything really clicked until the owl fight. After that it's has become my favorite from soft game by far
Never played Sekiro but played a lot of fighting games. Once a character just clicks and you do things on instinct, nothing feels as good. And I've done m***!
It's what I like to call the Danse Macabre effect. If an action game has great/well-designed combat, there will eventually just come a point when the rhythm of the game will click with the player, and they will enter a perfectly timed Dance Of Death. It's what happened to me with most FromSoft bosses (especially with Elden Ring's main bosses), with the entirety of Sekiro, with Devil May Cry, and most recently with Lies Of P, which is why I praise that game so much: they mastered the Danse Macabre, which is something most other Souls copycats don't usually do. It's amazing.
My first thought was "wait, why did RT find this game to be the hardest for him?" Aaand then I remembered that it's pretty much a rhythm game, and it all made sense
I really like how some bosses in the video have 20 seconds of pure deflecting that are not edited out. I can see just how intense these fights are. Thank you editor!
if you have the time for it, i strongly recommend checking out the vods, even if it's just to skip to the boss fights, because watching the full progression from floundering over and over, to complete mastery of the boss fight, is so rewarding. if you have time to watch only one of these fights, make it Inner Owl (the Owl fight in the burning building); the way he went from getting absolutely dominated, to dominating the fight, is the most satisfying thing i've ever seen. you can see the moment that it clicks for him, and suddenly he's deflecting every blow, dodging at the precise right moment in the correct direction, and attacking relentlessly without fear or hesitation. aside from how enjoyable just watching it is, i personally love hearing him verbalize his thoughts on what he's doing wrong, what he should be trying next, and generally talking aloud his process as he learns the fight, bit by bit, and that tends to get cut from the vids (understandably, the edited video has to condense a LOT and must focus on the most pivotal moments). anyway, just a recommendation! and considering these fights can take an hour or longer, i'd understand if you don't really have the time or inclination, but i figured if you enjoyed the drawn out parts from the edited down video, you might also enjoy the uncut version of the fights, too!
Fun Fact: Owl invented the Mikiri Counter so trying to use a thrust attack on him would understandably end in your loss. Good attention to detail. I love it. Fun Fact #2: The two massive apes you fight, the male gaurdian and the female brown, are actually mates. The gaurdian was infested and lost his sanity, but the female didn't want to leave him. If you kill the gaurdian first, the female gives up on life. Fun Fact #3: The Rejuvinating Waters grant immortality but it also corrupts the being who ingests it. The monks of Senpou Temple turned away from the teachings of Buddha and was seduced by the waters. These waters also caused the immortal centipedes to sprout, furthering the corruption. Fun Fact #4: The Old Dragons of the Tree symbolize Dragonrot and the unnatural use of ressurection. The first few are white beings but then they become old and withered. Much like how dragonrot spreads as more of the power is abused. Sad Fact: Considering the fact that you buy Robert's firecrackers from a Memorial Mob, people who pillage the dead for offerings, means that Robert is dead by the time Sekiro meets the Armored Warrior. This means that the Father is now chasing for the final hope to bring back his dead son, who has died of sickness.
I'm not completely sure, but I believe armored warrior doesn't know about Robert's death. Robert was used by the monks for experimentation with immortality (he was one of the divine children) under the guise of extending his life, in return the armored warrior defends the temple. By keeping him under the impression Robert is still alive, the monks make sure he keeps protecting their temple.
@@aaronliu5560 Your normal attacks are a slash, but if you hold down attack you do a lunging stab. The lunge is a bit slower but is longer range and I think does more damage. However, if you try to do the stab against Owl, he Mikiri counters you for a lot of posture/stamina damage against you.
If I remember right, Zullie showed in a video that the white dragons are actually old, sick and withered, and the black ones that show up later look younger, owing to their less developed horns.
I remember fighting the spear miniboss in Hirata estate without mikiri counter... it was genuine torture and most bosses doesn't compare to the amount of anguish that man caused me
The Ashina Spears are some of the most complex mini-bosses in the game mechanically. Quality-wise, they're up there with even some of the main bosses, but they will kick your butt at the start. Edit: I realise now you were talking about the Shinobi Hunters, sorry. Yeah, they are tough when first encountering them. You can beat them without the counter, but you have to be strict with your parry timings.
This game winning WWMii was what got me back into it after quitting at the ape, I now almost have the platinum trophy and have killed exactly 0 inner bosses, hoping RT did just as well
@@savanna2dopeI also quit at ape and ended up going back and platting. Id recommend it. The spear prosthetic makes the fight easy, once you’re past that, there will be several bosses that are infinitely more difficult. But it’ll be worth it in the end, so keep persevering.
@@savanna2dopemy own and many others experience with the game involves quitting because a boss is too hard but then coming back and loving it. I quit at genichiro then restarted the game a few months later and got the platinum trophy.
I quit at ape as well. It was watching TheStrawhatNo group's playthrough that got me to try again, in a "if this guy can do it then I sure as heck can, too" way. It also helps that a year and a half away from the game helped me let go of all the "souls-isms" that were holding me back, like thinking I'd only be able to block two ape swings before getting guard broken. No, the ape can be fought exactly like every other enemy: stand in front of it and deflect.
Watching RT beat Owl Father was freaking beautiful. Dead quiet, he knew exactly how to avoid the firecrackers, and even when he got hit there was no panic healing or anything like that. Owl Father is my favorite boss fight, there's seriously no game like Sekiro that turns boss fights into a cinematic masterpiece once you know how to face them properly.

The same reason a lot of people dislike Sekiro is the exact reason why it was(until the release of Elden Ring) what I considered to be FromSoftware's best title. Unlike a lot of other games, where you could just cheese or brute force your way through, you NEEDED to know the mechanics or you were never gonna beat the game.

not 5 minutes ago i was thinking "damn, its been a while since RT uploaded, must be working on another long one!" and then i see THIS in my recommended! now i'm excited :>
First off, would like to thank you very kindly RT, for letting me watch my favorite content creator on this site play through all of this game - been excited to watch this video since I saw you posting about it days ago. Also grand to have a playthrough of this game I want to watch, since I sadly had to put down Sekiro when playing it myself. Shameful to admit, since I have tried and enjoyed almost every other title they have made since Demons Souls, beating every other Soulsborne game except for this (and Demons, but that may be remedied soon). Just couldn't get into the combat, felt so different from their other titles and I had to walk away. So happy to experience this grand game second-hand.
I can't believe how many things I'd never seen before this video, even across all the playthroughs I've watched over the years, really glad to have watched this.
I was in the middle of my first playthrough of this game when he started, by the time i was able to make the first stream he already passed me, this man is not "bad" at the game, he just doubts himself.
Glad you came back to the game, Its a great experience that I think everyone who's even remotely interested in Soulslikes should try. I get that it can be grueling, as Sword Saint Ishin and Demon of Hatred took an entire week of attempts (each) to beat, but at the end of it all I was happy that I'd played the game. Hope your own experience was the same and that you ultimately walked away from it happier for having completed it.
It was an absolute pleasure to watch RT play my absolute favourite game of all time, was so much fun watching someone just slowly get to grips with this game! Also, I don't know if you've been made aware of the secret superbosses that you can only unlock by fighting through the boss rush mode, but those are really really cool and fun if you've got an itching for more!
So glad you gave this game another chance! It is always impressive seeing how much people improve over the course of the game. You did really well! Can’t say you don’t have rhythm anymore!
I remember when I beat Isshin the Sword Saint the first time, I literally stood up and started crying. To this day I am so proud to have beaten this game. You should be too. My personal favorite from soft game just because of the fucking mountain this game is to climb. Well done sir.
My heart was pounding so fast when I finally beat him. I struggled against him for days upon days until I finally mastered it all and killed him. That was an absolutely incredible moment and one of the most satisfying victories I've ever had in games. Beating Sekiro is absolutely something to be proud of. You can't beat it with just some cheese strategy or by overleveling. You actually have to master combat to finish it.
I recently 100%-ed Sekiro after quitting on the Blazing Bull for 8 months. And I am so glad I came back to it! This game is a masterpiece. It's my all time favorite game!
RT plays Sekiro Pros: He just needs to master one weapon and choose which tool he will mainly use RT plays Sekiro cons: *There are no summonable gang of ghost to help him, just messages to either troll him or attempt make his travels slightly more bearable*
It was certainly very interesting seeing RT transition from playing it like Dark Souls to picking up the flow of fighting, that second Owl fight especially
When I first played this game I was dog crap and I couldn’t defeat the spear mini boss or the shield bandits and now I beaten the game like 3 times in both endings and all curses active with no cheesing the bosses.
For reading the messages and playing the game the way it’s intended I alr love the video. Seen so many streamers skip all the tutorials and wonder why the game is difficult bruh
As someone with ophidiophobia (the snake one), going through the big snake sneaking level was definitely the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do in a video game. Had to call a cousin over for moral support.
favorite part of these videos is when rt finally kills a boss and goes "thERE WE GO" in the most strained voice, it captures the exact feeling of victory
sekiro is still my all time favorite game. Nothing quite scratches the same itch as the fights in this game. And unlike the other souls game, there is not a single part / section of this game i don't enjoy
one of my favorite details about the owl fight is that the spirit owl he summons is _very intentionally_ flying in front of your camera. just another bit of underhanded dealing from The Shinobi

After Genichiro the game felt entirely different. Before I just somehow scraped by but I had to fight properly to get past him
My first thought was "wait, why did RT find this game to be the hardest for him?" Aaand then I remembered that it's pretty much a rhythm game, and it all made sense
That second owl fight going from being 1 shot to death to basically hitless was soooo satisfying to watch lol
I really like how some bosses in the video have 20 seconds of pure deflecting that are not edited out.
I can see just how intense these fights are.
Thank you editor!
Also the in the momento section the music isn’t cut out.Really like the flow of that section in the video.
if you have the time for it, i strongly recommend checking out the vods, even if it's just to skip to the boss fights, because watching the full progression from floundering over and over, to complete mastery of the boss fight, is so rewarding. if you have time to watch only one of these fights, make it Inner Owl (the Owl fight in the burning building); the way he went from getting absolutely dominated, to dominating the fight, is the most satisfying thing i've ever seen. you can see the moment that it clicks for him, and suddenly he's deflecting every blow, dodging at the precise right moment in the correct direction, and attacking relentlessly without fear or hesitation. aside from how enjoyable just watching it is, i personally love hearing him verbalize his thoughts on what he's doing wrong, what he should be trying next, and generally talking aloud his process as he learns the fight, bit by bit, and that tends to get cut from the vids (understandably, the edited video has to condense a LOT and must focus on the most pivotal moments).
anyway, just a recommendation! and considering these fights can take an hour or longer, i'd understand if you don't really have the time or inclination, but i figured if you enjoyed the drawn out parts from the edited down video, you might also enjoy the uncut version of the fights, too!
But you can mikiri counter owl
@@aaronliu5560 Your normal attacks are a slash, but if you hold down attack you do a lunging stab. The lunge is a bit slower but is longer range and I think does more damage. However, if you try to do the stab against Owl, he Mikiri counters you for a lot of posture/stamina damage against you.
@@gunnarschlichting9886no he just stabs you in the chest after mikiri counter
@@leithaziz2716 The one in Hirata is a shinobi hunter, not one of the Ashina Spears
But in subsequent playthroughs, I beat him without using mikiri, it just feels more satisfying
You just need to dodge towards him and to the right. He will miss most times.
@@galen1083it's just a feels bad at that point if the hit counted huh?
This game winning WWMii was what got me back into it after quitting at the ape, I now almost have the platinum trophy and have killed exactly 0 inner bosses, hoping RT did just as well
I quit the game at Ape too and I’ve beat every FS game, maybe I’ll give it a shot again as well
@@savanna2dopeI hope you’ll be able to find the time and motivation
No, the ape can be fought exactly like every other enemy: stand in front of it and deflect.
as a drummer and person with ears, watching Dan play a rhythm game is a grueling experience (i'll watch this video 4 times)
RT truly is the rythm king
He is indeed the rhym king
He is indeed the rim king
Rm kng
R k
Sekiro is truly the rhythm heaven of dark souls
the way sekiro completely flips the script on health and posture is honestly endlessly brilliant, really glad you came back to this parry fest
You've died once John Sekiro, but you're a shadow, and a shadow has to die twice
Sekiro: Shadows Just Won't Stop Dying
I loved the part where the shadows died twice
Love how starting out RT avoids Hirata estate, the area you beat before facing the giant/gyobu but heads to senpou temple a mid game area he couldn't even finish
Sekiro is by far my favorite fromsoft game and straight up just one of my favorite games of all time, ive played it like 11 times and done literally everything, ive quite literally dreamt of the day rt would play this and i could not be more excited to see this day here and now
Sekiro put me through my paces for the longest time. Brutal learning curve but now it's one of my all-time favs. Also shoutout to your editor, pitch-perfect comedic timing to match your own flow. These are excellent highlight reels.
The fromsoft playthroughs were some of my favourite videos on this channel, so when it wrapped up I was pretty sad. Glad to see it back even if this is the last
he still has to play demon souls, so its not over just yet.
I think seeing him tackle Armored Core 6 could be fun, but I don't know if it's much of a streamable game tbh
Elden Ring DLC might be coming soon too. Hopefully he'll play that when it comes out
@@Erick-tv8oqi've heard rumors from leakers that it will be a large scale dlc packed with content so that's exciting. Hopefully it'll explain more of the story which was lacking. The final boss is just kinda there and unexpected.
The enemies seem to flow together, until all I can distinguish is a single constant: *Dan constantly panicking for his life in every encounter.*
All of your rhythm game training has finally paid off! I could never finish this, and I'm extremely proud of you for doing it!
Im really glad that sekiro won dan's smash tournament, its such a fantastic game, and so rewarding to learn. I know there were other great games on that roster, but there really isnt anything quite like sekiro
Rt solemnly singing Sonic music while he kills a guy is my new favorite thing 😂
The Owl Father fight was nothing short of incredible, RT went full focus mode on that one
Thank you chloe for all the work you do, I understand editing a video this long as fast as you did is a mean feat and a half, thank you.
Sekiro, the Australia of video games, where absolutely EVERYTHING wants to kill you.
naw thats Bloodborne
Can’t wait to see what the theme of this game is. Ds1 was strength, ds2 was the power of friendship, and ds3 was magic
Power of rhythm doctor
booze, mostly
The theme is sneaky deathblows
The theme is dying twice and rhythm games
The theme is simple 'Hesitation is defeat'
I fell asleep to your Elden rings videos for months. Rewinding back to what I remember before hitting rem. Now it’s time for Sekiro.
Thank you chrom for giving us this playthrough
The actual best game ever made
Just that opening proves that Dan is better at parrying in these games then I am, and boy. Am I not jealous. Because I know my limitations! Thankfully, Dan can be easily bribed and negged to ignore his for our entertainment, and bless'em. These are always very great experiences to watch.
I beat this game for the first time 2 weeks ago after playing it on and off for 2 YEARS.
This can only end well
not 5 minutes ago i was thinking "damn, its been a while since RT uploaded, must be working on another long one!" and then i see THIS in my recommended! now i'm excited :>
Love watching Dan run up to enemies and just spam his block button
Watching RT just silently defeat Owl was such a good moment. I could feel his tension
I can't believe how many things I'd never seen before this video, even across all the playthroughs I've watched over the years, really glad to have watched this.
Its insane how every time he started fighting a boss I thought, "oh this boss is so great I love this one"
The quality of this game is just astounding
I was in the middle of my first playthrough of this game when he started, by the time i was able to make the first stream he already passed me, this man is not "bad" at the game, he just doubts himself.
So glad RT came back to Sekiro. One of the coolest games I've played
1:17:44 gets asked to play the Mementos theme, instead plays Price like a legend.
Hope your own experience was the same and that you ultimately walked away from it happier for having completed it.
i love ds 1 and 2 but bloodborn and this i dont like
You like DS2? Ew.....@@drakekingblackheart5481
I've been waiting for this video for so long. So great to finally see RT play Sekiro fully.
I love the fact RT actually put this video in his rhythm games playlist
I literally just picked up sekiro again after years and RT finally plays it. We live in a simulation.
Never thought he’d go back to this, now he truly can be the gamer of all time. You love to see it
RT's absolute dedication to not save kuro until he absolutely has to is fucking hilarious
From watching the original play through RT has grown so much! He picks up mechanics in games so fast nowadays
I recently 100%-ed Sekiro after quitting on the Blazing Bull for 8 months. And I am so glad I came back to it! This game is a masterpiece. It's my all time favorite game!
That Owl fight is hands down one of the coolest things RT has done, the patience and awareness is INSANE
RT plays Sekiro Pros: He just needs to master one weapon and choose which tool he will mainly use
RT plays Sekiro cons: *There are no summonable gang of ghost to help him, just messages to either troll him or attempt make his travels slightly more bearable*
33:00 even though Dan read the firwork lore and told himself to remember Robert, he didn't react to Robert's dad at all
The owl fight at hiratta took me 3 days to beat. It's was one of the most fun times i have ever had in a video game.
Father/Inner Owl and SS Isshin are up there with some of the best bosses in the last decade.
I'm glad RT gave Sekiro another go, It's my personal favourite of the Soulsborne games and it's great that he seemed to have fun.
58:32 HE MADE THE NOISE
I've played Sekiro a dozen times, and he's gotten through every fockin' boss so much quicker than me. I am FLOORED. Great video!
Every time he pronounces Buddha like butta a piece of my soul dies
Good on you for coming back and beating it
That owl father fight was beautiful to watch
I'm very happy for RT for being able to overcome this game. It's a growing moment for Dad and I'm glad to have witnessed it
Truely the Rhythm King. Pretty sure RTgame now has the skills to tackle Lies of P.
favorite part of these videos is when rt finally kills a boss and goes "thERE WE GO" in the most strained voice, it captures the exact feeling of victory
The only player to ever drift with a sword
Props to your editing/editor of this one - it's cut down really well and I really enjoyed watching you beat this
sekiro is still my all time favorite game. Nothing quite scratches the same itch as the fights in this game. And unlike the other souls game, there is not a single part / section of this game i don't enjoy
the best thing that happened today was seeing RT upload a 2 and a half hour video
thanks :D
one of my favorite details about the owl fight is that the spirit owl he summons is _very intentionally_ flying in front of your camera. just another bit of underhanded dealing from The Shinobi
This came out while i was in the hospital post surgery. They say laughters the best medicine but i burst a stitch. So thanks rt
Boss: *dies*
RT: THEREWEGO
11:51 I love how, with Mikiri Counter, it doesn’t really tell you that enemy feet can also be stamped down on.
You didn't quit, you just had to let it die once so you could beat and then kill if for the second time
Lovely timing; I just beat Inner Ishin for the first time today, so it's really nice to revisit the road to learning this wonderful game. I was thoroughly entertained the whole way through, Dan! Lovely show!
Daniel can now add Shinobi master to his CV now
Love you Dan, you always make my day
Drift King decided to expand he's career by becoming the samurai with the highest death count, in which i mean the most dead man ever. Thank you RT by showing us that we always can be more dead.
To be fair, most samurai can't die more than once.
8:18 What an in-tents fight that was.
love ya rt, dog got cancer and hes getting put to sleep this weekend and you are taking my mind off of things!
As a veteran of the game, I profusely thank Daniel for choosing the correct option, and using the Japanese dub.
Deserved shoutouts to Gyobu's English VA though.
MYYYYY NAAAAAAAME IS GYOOBUU MASATAKU ONIWAAAAAA!
