    Ben absolutely fantastic. Your use of low ambient light is captivating. You would think that a dimly lit, rainy, inside day would be dreary. It was anything but. It was so uplifting. I am looking to purchase that lens and was pleasantly surprised at how up close and personal you were able to get with it. I wonder if you could have gotten as if had not been focusing manually. I have a Canon lens that I often switch to manual focus in order to get closer.

      @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms  3 роки тому +3

      Cheers Paul! Yeah, sometimes it's just about leaning into whatever conditions you're shooting in. This lens is perfect for that! And I agree, sometimes manual focus is the only way to go. I should add that I now shoot with this lens in auto too - it's a little noisy, but nothing too serious.

    Question ; i saw your answer regarding the profile used. And this was Classic Chrome. But you also mentioned LUT. Did you apply a LUT for classic chrome? Hehe

    • @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms
      @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms  3 роки тому

      Thanks Dan! Yeah, I just used the LUT straight over Classic Chrome. I always do it this way... Obviously you have to be careful with the levels/amount, but I like the looks I achieve. Doesn't have to be a LUT specifically designed to be used in this way - they all work!

    Lovely video. I am considering a 35mm from fuji as I only have vintage lenses serving me between 35 and 85 (35mm equivalent). I do have a XF6mm f1.4 which I love, for night video. Most of what I do is video so my question is: did you stay mostly at f1.4 in this video? what about ISO? many thanks.

    Great video! Did you use a shotgun mic? My 35 f1.4's noisy focusing is still loud even when I use manual focusing. I want to use it as a video lens as wel... Thanks in advance for the tip!

    • @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms
      @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms  3 роки тому

      Thanks Joseph! Yeah, well I sued the Rode VideoMicro mic. The noise is still noisy in manual focus, but it's ok with a mic (especially if you have ambient noise and/or music).

  • @punnuf3438
    @punnuf3438 3 роки тому +1

    Love your work! Do you use any camera cage when filming? What microphone do you use?

    • @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms
      @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms  3 роки тому

      Thanks Punnuf. No cage but I do have use the battery grips - the extra weight is really important to me for stabilised shots (I don't understand why everyone talks about wanting lighter cameras (for video) - the heavier they are the more stabilised the footage is).

    A wonderful video! I have a question - I have a Fujifilm X-H1 and want to film myself teaching yoga for yoga tutorials (not moving around in a room, but staying on the yoga mat). Would you recommend the XF-35mm F1.4 R for this as well? The manual focus would work here too, I guess? Thank you for your opinion!

    • @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms
      @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you Julia! Yes, i theory the 35mm 1.4 would work perfectly in manual focus, as long as you have a suitable depth of field (such as f8 or higher). However, I would definitely think you'd be better off with a wider angle lens, such as the 23mm f2 (or even the new 18mm f2). Or just use the 18-55mm kit lens wide open at 18mm f2.8). Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

    • @juliahilgert214
      @juliahilgert214 3 роки тому +1

      @@BenHolbrookWeddingFilms Thank you so much, this is so helpful! Now that I think about it, 23mm or 18mm makes more sense. Currently, I use 16-55 mm, but I think the kit lense may cause a reduced light sensitivity, which made me think to try another objectiv.

    • @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms
      @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms  3 роки тому +1

      @@juliahilgert214 Happy to help. To be honest, the 16-55mm is probably perfect. I would suggest investing in lighting rather than buying a new lens.

    Ben, Question. I just ordered an xt3 and decided on the 35mm 1.4r without checking reviews. I don’t use sound on my videos just add music in post. Not to worried it being noisy but how’s the auto focus when doing videos ?

    • @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms
      @BenHolbrookWeddingFilms  2 роки тому +1

      It’s good! The issue is more that it’s not stabilised, and neither is the XT3, so you’ll want to be mindful of that if shooting handheld. But it’s one of my favourite lenses for sure!
