- In this video, I'll share my profound affinity for using a 35mm full frame equivalent lens in portrait photography. This focal length has earned a special place in my photography journey for several compelling reasons. It offers a unique blend of versatility, maintaining a balance between wide-angle and telephoto, making it suitable for a wide range of portrait styles. Furthermore, its ability to capture a natural perspective akin to what the human eye sees adds depth to storytelling in photography. Additionally, the lens's capability to create beautiful background blur, often referred to as bokeh, further elevates the visual impact of my portraits. Join me on this journey as we explore the art of storytelling through portraits and uncover the magic of the 35mm full frame equivalent lens, which has become an indispensable tool in my photographic arsenal.

Your explanations go deep into the topic, and all the effort pays off when you don't justify by word alone, but demonstrate the 'why' for choosing this field of view. Excellent video, nicely done!
I appreciate that! Thanks Stu
Absolutely agree that shooting on a long focal length makes it so easy to create stunning photos that you forget that blurring your background does injustice to the story sometimes.
Great points for this versatile focal length and fantastic photos as always!
Thanks bro
Damn! Excellent photos! Beautiful models with exceptional composition and post processing. Simply fantastic👊👊
thanks for watching!
Love how you explained the process and creativity of these shots. Awesome video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your photography is beautiful. I deeply appreciate that you explain your thought process for each photo and how the 35mm supports that. You earned my sub!
Glad it was helpful!
You are absolutely right about the storytelling capabilities of the 35mm and the fact that it makes you think creatively is one reason I love the focal length. Great pictures by the way, the sound you also added made the experience totally enjoyable. You have gained a subscriber .
Thank you for the support!
Great video Tongue. to your point at the end - I agree. Mike Chudley has a great video about this, but specifically with regards to street photography. He makes the case that people trick themselves with 85mm, believing they have taken a good photograph, but they are actually just impressed with the quality of the hardware they are using.
Bingo!
Really cool to watch your journey 🙏
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you for your support dude
That was a great video bro thanks for sharing your thought process 🙌
Any time!
Great video, man! Right now looking for portrait lens and your information very helpful 🔥 thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
35mm focal length is my favorite!
Excellent video, and you're right to 'ruffle a few feathers (85mm) , we are in an era where one can almost treat a mirrorless like a point and shoot lazy persons camera; the 35 mm focal length used properly MAKES you work to come up with magic
I’m glad you feel the same! Thank you
I always struggle with story telling in my photos. But the 35 makes the process a lot easier. Love your work! Very inspiring!
you can do it! thanks for tuning in
❤; fantastic!
Simply awesome
Thank you for this compelling reason to own a 35mm.
Glad you like it!
One of the best videos to date good job more lumix
Appreciate that! Thanks 😊
This was an awesome video. Have to agree with the focal length. Easily my favorite focal length.
thanks for watching my dude
👏👏👏
I absolutely love using 35mm for portraits!! I absolutely love voyeur/candid photography. I got tired of following the herd really quick, and thats when i began playing with my other lenses. The 35mm is my favorite. It captures the scene, or as you put it, the story.
I am using an APS-C with 1.6 crop factor.
I was an indoor/outdoor, nude natural light photographer. When Covid came, it took it all away, and it never came back. But hopefully things may turn around in the future.
Until then, Squirrels are so photogenic and expressive, that I use them for practice all the time. 35mm is also great when shooting children, because with them, i believe the scene is important.
Grate Video Sir & Thanks For Sharing!

Canon SL1 with Magic Lantern
Sigma Art 18-35
Your compositions are beautiful man! I am going to study composition now.
You should! That's how you get better! Thanks for watching
Thank you
Welcome!
Environmental portraits are my favorites, but I accomodate them in the 50mm FOV.
I should give it a go to the 30mm FOV tho and see how that goes.
Yessir go nuts!
Great, simply great. At the moment I just got 2 lenses 23 mm and 50 mm - F 2. Love'm both for what they give me on my X-T3. I'm not sure if this video is thee most compelling "Liebeserklärung" for 35 mm ff equivalent focal length I've seen yet. Thanx tongue.
Thanks for sharing
Also my 2 favorite lenses for Fuji.
Dang your are amazing my guy
Thank you!
For me the 35mm focal length is the least used when It comes to portraits. I love wide angle portraits but the 35 just doesn't work as wide angle. I shoot with 14mm and 24. 35 is too narrow. That's why I always go with something like 14mm with 105mm combo. Not that I have a bad 35mm lens because its a aigma 35mm f1.2 😉
i am impresed by the Lumix S5 image at 1:10 not sure if APS-C can match. i have the sony A6700 with sigma 23mm 1.4
Hi Tongue ! I saw that you use Lumix S5ii as well. Do you prefer for video and foto X-h2S or S5II ? I have X-h2S and more X-mount lenses. But i am wondering if i switch to FF.
I prefer video on the XH2s even though the autofocus is not as good as the S5ii. But the S5ii does have worst rolling shutter peformances...But the s5ii is a great camera you will probably miss the stacked sensor and film simulations if you switch. That's about it.
35mm is the greatest focal length ever invented. 😄 Longer focal lengths are good for capturing details in a scene, or getting some compression "magic" ✨.
It really is!
Any filters used?
Black pro mist filters in some shots.
@@Iamtongue yes I could see in some the effect of the Pro Mist nice work
+1 Like for being a Toronto based creator
HAHA thank you! xD
I find it so hard to shoot portraits with 35
Ya it was difficult for me at first but something just clicked haha

Awesome, Ideas, new?
1. Teach us angles, to shoot different subjects and models
2. Teach up how loght works and everything u know about it, and manipulating it
3. maybe you can show us how to get models to shoot from step 1,
to the Final step, And photograph them, and what to give them in terms of value, and how to give that value to the customer
4. Maybe u can show us what price to charge, and why and how long until we up the price.
5. Teach us small habits that will take us from beginner to pro
6. Show us how to direct a model, or what kinda models need to be instructed and directed, interm of facial expression or body position or behaviour
7. Show us what are the best poses for the model
8. Show us how to get that perfect background, for the models and what they are wearing
9. Show us different styles of clothing like: what goes and doesn't go, and what makes the model pop and not pop, from the back ground.
10. show us clothing colours, and color of back grounds and how it effects the image, maybe you can talk about how the color makes us feel, and how to make other people feel an emotion via their photograph.
Just a little gift for you 🎁
If you want to work together, just let me know here.🤙💯
