@@karenf5928 If you want a rangefinder, look at the x-pro 2 from fuji. And if you're willing to shoot film, get a minolta, contax, or heck even an old leica. But if you're really willing to shoot film, you might as well get a medium format.

Can never tell if Kai is trolling while reviewing these Leica cameras just because of how ridiculous it seems in comparison to cameras that cost a fraction of their price, bundled with a dope af lens. But I guess I can just be thankful for myself for not understanding so I can save my money, lol.

FINALLY. I fucking love my M3 and have been so tempted to get a digital Leica for more convenience, but never found one that balanced looks and performance. This finally looks like the ONE. And it is the same M Mount so I can use all my old Leica film lenses. Thank you Kai.

Kai’s a dude I’ve always checked in on over the years. And while I’ve kept his reviews close to heart... I now realize I’ve never seen him take a good photograph. Ever.

Working with Leica for over 11 years.
Started out with the M8 and it’s beautiful Kodak sensor, M9 still the best in my opinion.
If the people really care about Photography and taking pictures, therefore seeing the M as what it is a tool the hype is still quite weird to me. I use 4 quality lenses 2 summicron 2 elmarit, I tried lux and so on and thought it takes away the advantage of having the smallest system. The way you photograph is different for every system you use. Rangefinder is unique. I also use a Digital Blad 4 with

All Pana have to do is add a 'blog' focus mode to solve this. Bloggers often just want the camera to focus on whatever is closest to the lens. The hardware is up to the job.
I own a M type 240 since launch day and I really can say that I love this camera and I am not gonna "upgrade" to the M10, to me I think the pictures are overly sharp and I have tried it out at the store multiple times but I just can't seem to find a reason for me to get it. To me the weight isn't that big of a difference and the only thing I like about the M10 is its size, but the buttons just seem too cheep for me and the menu is different from what I am used to (yes that is somehow a huge deal breaker) The last time I tried it, the EV settings are no longer adjustable with the dial and the ISO thingy is just too stiff and might cost me more time to turn it ... so in the end I bought a real film Leica the Leica mp which I think is the best investment ever.

Well, it's a rangefinder camera.... Gotta be really precise especially when the aperture is wide open.
That's done on purpose, to get it in line with the out of focus video footage ;).
it is really easy especially with leica's bright rf patch. However it is way more difficult with an SLR or DSLR.

Ian Swinton it’s filmed with a Panasonic GH5. Focusing is not a strong point.
Want to get the Leica look on a dslr ?? Wait for the focus beep, then nudge the focus ring slightly....job done 🤣
Cool additions and a very sexy camera. No need for me to upgrade from my M240 though. Still does everything I need it to and I don't mind the slightly larger size.

Vorsenaut That’s a horrible camera to start out with, Get a Canon, rebel series. I started with a Canon T6 and it taught me everything I needed to know about photography.

The PEN EPL1 is a fine camera. I owned both the EPM1 and the PEN EP5 when they were new and they were spectacular cameras.

I see a screw thread inside the shutter button, so does that mean it supports wired remote shutter? It is really an awesome feeling to use retro like gadget mixed with modern technology. You are providing wired remote shutter in a day and age when you can simply provide an ir remote!!

@@BradCage not really. All his video goes to UA-cam, 8 bit h.264. So anything more is pointless.
@@cinialvespow1054 if you want bit depth, amazing skin tones and colour, get a 5d mark iii and shoot 14 bit raw 4k. Yes, on a 5d3 and for a lot less money.
Iphonedo says it best. Out of focus high bitrate footage is just like Shania Twain that sings out of tune. It's kinda bad. I prefer lower bitrate but in focus footage always.
Since when did the Canon 5DMkiii have 4K? do you means stills? Because people are talking about video. Do you mean the Magic Lantern Build mod? Because that is not native.

Found out recently the black (chrome) version doesn't brass like the analog MP or MP 240 would. Bit of a shame. Wonder if that was done to discourage contentment with an M10-P for years and drive those M11 upgrades, or for another, more functional purpose...

Rich casual photographers do that, but those serious about photography buy them to mount those incredible lenses. The camera itself is too expensive, in my opinion.
just watch any M10 review, same sensor, nothing changed here
ISO, exposure and aperture are the only settings one really needs anyway, anything else is surplus really. thats why i still use my old fuji x-e2 a lot, aperture rings on the lens, where it should be, not a command dial on the back of the camera to control my DOF, which is why i like this leica, i would like one but, i can live without it to be fair!

Lovely review, does the M262 sound pretty loud in comparison? Mine doesn't sound as discrete as advertised anyway. By the way, seems like Panasonic had fixed the ADHD focusing by making it more prone to going out of focus? I don't understand how Panasonic makes cameras which take amazing footages but couple them with a crippled autofocus capability...

Hi Kai, what lens would you recommend with this camera. I primarily shoot street photography. I’m looking for 1 lens on the smaller and lighter side that is amazing overall.

Interesting that you did not show what the touchscreen is useful for. I had trouble to figure it out, and I'm still disappointed that they put it in there (without much real use at the moment; maybe with one of the next firmware updates). And this screw at the front looks awful. It looked much better on older models (smaller and different type of screw-head - like on my analogue MP). No, I would not consider this model at all. I hope they come up with an M11 next year that is so great that "normal" M10s become much more affordable second-hand … ;)

That is strange. I don't know if they ever have but they also don't make a silver 50mm summicron. What's up with that? I prefer 50mm for street photography and have a silver body. Damned if I'll put a black lens on it.

Beautiful camera but I'd rather get a Fuji rangefinder. Hell, I could even get perfectly working film Leica Ms or Nikon Fs for a fraction of the price today... and those were and still are exquisite cameras that have no right to be as affordable as they are.
I have much respect for Leica's history and what they have given us photographers over the years, but you know you're a deep trouble when you got pushed to the luxury market because you can no longer compete in the consumer/professional market.

When a company shrinks to a fraction of its original size when it comes the market share , among things they can do is appearing and disappearing a red dot to fake a new model.

I just bought an all metal Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AI-s pancake lens from Japan, brand new, and got the same manual perfection goodness feeling with my D850. So I know what Kai is on about. But for $8K, I think it takes the concept of minimalist manual operation and craps all over it with a Starbucks.
