I think its nuts that a modern motorcycle needs the plugs changed every 10K or 2 years according to the manual. Mine started running poorly on my way back from Alaska. Fuel pump is making all kinds of noise as well. At least now I know to go get a 14mm spark plug socket.
I honestly couldn’t say why they did that. My guess is to give it that conventional appearance because the Harley fan base has typically been into the retro styling. Kind of the same reasoning behind them still producing air cooled engines in their most popular models.

I couldn’t tell you why. Computers and technology are not my thing. I’m an old school grease monkey. I understand mechanical things, not 1’s and 0’s.
I'm more curious why it uses two different ignition systems, half coil on plug, half shared ignition coil? What gives?
