According to the Owners Manual on my 2022 PanAmS - you can also use 20W50 Synthetic - I prefer Amsoil

the manuals say to check oil on the side stand with the engine at operating temperature, I changed mine a while back, and was on the center stand at first, I decided to put the bike on the side stand, and I got quite a bit more oil out over draining on the center stand, next time I am doing the whole oil change on the side stand,

not sure what the poster is reading but per the Service Manual..
Add 3 quarts and run for 10 seconds..
      THEN
ADD JUST ENOUGH OIL TO BRING THE DIPSTICK TO THE "ADD QUART MARK"
So you only add enough oil to bring the oil to the very bottom line... Then.. when you actually run the engine to operating temp.. you should be right on the money at full.. Dont ask me why.. Its a Harley thing lol

Try using a filter wrench. Also, you don't "lube the oil filter housing," you oil the "O" ring.

The owners manual says a different weight of oil. And it also says to do the change on the jiffy stand, not the centre stand. Maybe it effects how it drains.

jiffy stand may also help if you fill the new oil-filter half-way with oil ( as recommended in manual ) before screwing it back on. Prevent the oil from spilling out of the filter.

      9. See Figure 2-5. Install new oil filter.
      a. Lubricate gasket with a thin film of clean engine oil.

      c. Hand-tighten oil filter three-quarters of a turn after

Sorry but you are doing it wrong.
You should drain the oil on the jiffy stand, because you'll still have a little over 1/2 of old oil in the engine if you keep the bike on the center stand.
Also, priming the engine filter is better than installing dry.
But what I know, just working with bikes for over 20 years.

Looks good, but I would want to at least try something else to loosen the oil filter, before mangling the thing up with pliers. A strap wrench would probably break it loose. After the first oil change, you should be able to use an end cap type remover.

Replace, very difficult. You can order new spokes, but it is tricky to keep the wheel straight. If just one, not too bad.

So I just came accross this video and its crazy how many people say "the manual says this.." When it says NO such thing at all...
HERE IS THE REFILL PROCEDURE DIRECTLY FROM THE MANUAL
    13. Add an initial volume of engine oil. Refer to Table 2-4.
    Table 2-4. Initial Oil Fill
    ITEM QUANTITY
Engine oil initial fill 3 qt (2.8 L)
    14. Install filler plug/dipstick.
    15. Run engine for 10 seconds.
    16. Turn off engine and remove filler plug/dipstick.
    ---------------------------------------------
    17. See See Figure 2-3 .. Add only enough oil to bring the level
    to the add quart mark.
    ---------------------------------------------
    18. Verify proper oil level.
    a. Start engine and carefully check for oil leaks around
    drain plug and oil filter.
    b. Check engine oil level. See Check Engine Oil Level
    (Page 2-7). in this section.

PROPER WAY TO CHECK ENGINE OIL
ALLOW ENGINE TO IDLE FOR APPROX 10 MINTUES OR RIDE UNIT UNTIL TEMP REACHES 180 DEGREES OR HIGHER...
TURN ENGINE OFF AND PLACE ON SIDE STAND..
PROMPTLY CHECK DIP STICK BY REMOVIN.. WIPING CLEAN AND RETIGHTENING BEFORE CHECKING

Just a little bit of it. The manual is vague as the bike will take more or less depending on the stroke of the motor when stopped. The oiling system is very complex, and sometimes it may take more than others, hence why the manual doesn't even tell you. I think in my case it took 1/2 pint. Ride Safe

No, the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act protects you. But of course if you mess it up you could be on the hook. And if you fail to service the bike, you would also be in trouble 🚒

Nothing bad will happen if u push in any API SN, JASO MA-2 for 4T - 10W40, 20W50, 10W50.....and it will be 100% ok for 99% fo this bikes' users. Maybe someone at HD decided to play a "pranc" with the owners ?, or to test their IQ ? 🤔
These numbers ( xxWxx ) tell the lowest / highest usable viscosity temp. Other qualities of the oil are API SN, JASO MA-2 4T.
But the 15W50 4T is a pretty common MC oil, where is it possible NOT to find it ?

    • @JustAnotherLuke94
      @JustAnotherLuke94 Рік тому

The rev max REQUIRES CJ4 spec'd 20W-50 diesel oil.
Engineers including independents that have performed viscosity studies on the rev max have openly stated in forums that you SHOULD not use just any plain oil.

    *Observations*
Harley Davison motorcycles has gone electric (failed) and now going "adventure" bike (possible fail too). The company Harley-David (HD)
has been trying a lot of different things to survive.
Sadly most motorcyclist born these days don't like Harley *_unreliability,_* Harley culture, and Harley NO-customer service.
I, personally will never understand the HD sales people that treat potential buyers with snottiness & many times just ignore the possible customer.
    Happy _Labor Day!_
