This video is an excerpt from a larger video breaking down Black Widow, you can find it here - • Black Widow: An Unbrid...
During the video I wanted to share that Natasha has become quite a different person and one way to understand it is by looking at the three interrogations across two movies.
One being the story that revealed her history and one that ended her story.
Comparing them can reveal the differences in approach from the writers.

Look at Loki in this scene. He's captured, unarmed, overmatched (against the whole team), and absolutely in danger. Look how slowly he moves. He's doesn't scamper or flap. He doesn't bark or burst with pomposity. He paces, slowly. He listens. He asks unassuming questions, he gets comfortable, he picks at scabs in his opponent's soul. He draws them in. He likes it and enjoys the joust. Then he shows them the real him, he escalates, and hits them with words hard enough to crack a mountain.
Now picture Loki in "Loki the Series". He's been captured by body-positive space cop. He's barely handcuffed with nothing but her hand over his arm holding him as he's marched through the TVA. He flaps, he scampers, he postures, and complains. Loudly. He clowns. He mugs. He goes along with it (note: he does not *play along* for his own amusement or intentionally get captured to discover more about his enemy or sabotage them from the inside. He goes along with it, under duress). He learns absolutely nothing about the TVA that they aren't willing to spell out for him. He participates. He is, and never ceases to be, out of his depth.
But it's awesome apparently because... "character development".

For the first three-fourths of Loki I was waiting, *dying* for him to have been playing a part. I mean, at the end of the day, it didn't add up at all that he was faking, but I really wanted to believe the writers understood him to be the MCU's god of... mischief? Maybe? That would've been nice. If they knew who they were writing. Yeah.

@@kylefrank638 This is the monumental danger that comes with allowing participation trophy writers the chance to take over writing a complex and popular character that's been well-served by other, more experienced hands, and expecting them to do the work, keep it consistent, and pay attention to motivation, and character boundaries (as in what they absolutely will or won't do, what they absolutely can and cannot do) in order to make the character feel authentic and allow the audience to buy into the twists and curveballs you want to throw at them. Drop that ball, and the audience rejects EVERYTHING you propose wholesale. You lose them so much quicker than the time it took to draw them in. And so few modern writers (in Hollywood) understand this so they don't understand why, after they hoof their 1st drafts in and they get taken directly to the sound stage for shooting, that the audience's faces drop and the forum and comment sections erupt in WTF tsunamis of malcontent.

That's the main problem with Loki, it's just not funny enough to justify whatever plot they were going for. I would have looked the other way if they made it FUN, by that i mean, make me laugh through the plot.

As much as I enjoy some aspects of the Loki show (Loki himself is still my favourite, the Loki variant fellows like Kid Loki, Alligator Loki, etc. have their own charms, and I found Mobius somewhat engaging in a somewhat oddball, mustachioed store clerk sort of way), this video has nailed the main issue I have with the show itself: Loki isn't allowed to really be his full character, not like how the way the films do. He's somehow done what should be impossible, and been rendered second banana to a female version of himself *in his own show* while the script makes me want to scratch my head and demand answers as to how the TVA's very existence isn't technically obliterating years of Canon buildup since there was so much importance given to the Stones and now we as the audience know that the TVA can just render them totally useless paperweights at will (and tbh that look on Loki's face when he realises for the second time that his whole entire existence is a giant crappy lie is absolutely crushing).
Sylvie herself is an ok character, but it's immensely frustrating to see that she gets so much spotlight and magical show-off points (and yes, it's petty as heck and I will admit it to be so, but did they make her blonde specifically to stand out among all the dark-haired Lokis?? The Loki of myth had red hair, I would've thought that could've been a nice reference to the source material instead, but here she looks like she could've actually been Thor's sister and that...looks odd, tbh, given that Hela is considered Odin's offspring in the MCU films and she's a ravenette that does NOT share Odin or Frigga's hair colour) and Loki is basically stuck in the passenger seat for 75% of the runtime because something is being exposited to the audience/regurgitated for Loki to be told something.

There is no doubt in my mind that during this scene, if that glass wasn't there, Black Widow would be dead. Outside of Hulk and Thor (probably Strange too), this Loki is a mortal threat to every Avenger. Loki against Cap, Iron Man, Black Panther, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, any individual Guardian... one on one, he's life-threatening.
And then the Loki show happened, and he gets chinned by big-boned space cops and hoofed off trains by a couple of security guards. Because... err... "character development"?

@@wojak-sensei6424 What would have been wrong with him being recruited as a TVA agent only to steal a bunch of infinity stones and the first time he goes into the field he illusions his way to freedom?
He charges through time with the timepads and time stone, looking for this other Loki who also wants to dismantle this seemingly all-powerful organisation, and learn more about his bureaucratic enemy? What if his prime motivation is not to change the fate he saw in the video for himself, but actually to save his mother's life, humanising him but also without needing to strip the usual vicious, devious, and chaotic Loki persona that 2012 Loki did so well.
Eventually, his goals (to bargain with Kang) and Sylvie's goals (to kill Kang) will diverge, creating a conflict, which would still work if they develop a relationship during their travels and their torment of the TVA. It would also give Loki a more personal vendetta when he finally confronts Kang, the man who decided that Loki only exists to die, that his mother had to die, forcing Loki to bargain for another reality or find a way to outfox Kang, rather than just being a passenger while Sylvie completes her goals. It makes his journey so much more personal and in line with where his character was in and around Thor 2. It's more consistent and agented. It's proactive. It's Loki.
What is so hard about this? All those pieces are there, but they decide to nerf him, sideline him, and attach him to another character's journey. He's a passenger in his own show. He's the companion to Sylvie's Doctor. It's bizarre. And it's no fun to watch happen.

It accomplishes in both empathizing with a seemingly unredeemable character while staying true to his principles in a way that seems like actual character progression rather than a character assassination. It also has room to prop up everyone's favorite selfcest OC Sylvie, as her and Loki's angle is now that of conflicting interests and in the process, one can learn a thing from the other in ways that make for compelling storytelling.
All it takes is a little bit of compromising to make this story great. The fact that they can't even concede on those grounds makes me think that it's has less to do with ignorance or incompetence and has more to do with legitimate spite. They want to tell their own story, and Loki is getting in the way. And so they didn't bother respecting his character, because they want their vision untouched while dismantling the very story they were supposed to honor.
I rather have given these hack writers their own show to ruin if they only view this industry as a playground for their vanity projects.

Whether she's doing it purposefully or not, it appears like just her bodies physiological reaction is a tell. Giving away how much each word is starting to hit home. It is superb acting from Scarlett.
I really don't think she expected the depths of his evil. When he explains what he'll have Barton do to her, its a level of dark that really isn't something humans can even express. Think about it - Loki is going to have Natasha's best friend torture her to death in all her most feared ways, let him wake to see what he did, just to finally kill him. This is a horror you rarely even see in our darkest horror movies. It is very clear from future scenes in the movie that this has a real affect on Natasha, which you can see in her face. She was expecting someone human-adjacent, not someone

I honestly think her whimpering out 'Your a Monster' was a legit reaction from her, not a probing play. I think for her the interrogation ended and she was shaken... but she's a god damn professional, and when he lets slip, you can see her posture changing while she resets and forces herself back into spy mode. Amazing.

This was the Loki I was EXPECTING in the Loki series when the first episode came out
The past younger Loki who was still in an insane mindset and just in the midst of losing to the Avengers??? OH BOY, WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN?!
While I did like that he saw himself being painfully killed by Thanos, almost his former BOSS that he could've failed to and possibly had dire consequences brought onto him, Loki did feel less like himself and more like his Ragnarok self, yet even less than that as well
His Ragnarok self was good and it made sense in terms of time going by as well as his and Thor's relationship growing throughout that movie and the previous Thor movie. But in Loki its just "oh he WAS insane, but now hes not and hes powerless"
What kind of bs is that???

This was great. Definitely makes up for the otherwise derth of content we've been getting on the main channel. Can't wait to watch TFA Part 4 next year.

I think the scene could've been improved if she kicked Loki in the balls and then slammed her face into a desk.

Into the glass. And then she perks up from this faceplant and exclaimed "Banner! That's your plan!"

Fantastic video. I actually prefer this format. I may be in a minority on this, but I think you might be better off doing a (more) steady stream of this sort of content than the much longer ones (Not that that's a **wrong** way of doing it, of course. You do you.). Although it's not simply the length that has me more appreciative of this video. I enjoy it a lot more for its praise-focused juxtaposition and reminding/explaining the audience of what was good about the MCU. That's what I'd like to see more of. (I'd love to see you do a "One Marvellous Scene" for *Captain America: The First Avenger* and *Iron Man*, in particular, personally. More *The Avengers* scenes would also be nice.)
It'd also be interesting to see you focus in on a good scene in an otherwise bad work, discuss its potential and how it could have been great, and then shoot off the crippling references that squandered that potential.

This scene was so brain dead I honestly didn't realize she was trying to manipulate him. I thought they were just having an awkwardly written dialogue.

Legit though she was morally grandstanding on him until the "thank you for your cooperation" bullshit. Instead, she basically banked on Drakov having the aptitude of No Bullshit and Quinton in terms of logic and reasoning.
*The same Drakov behind the Black fucking Widows.*

See, it's stuff like this that makes me wish there was less... static... between Avengers and End Game. I hadn't Avengers in almost a decade when watching End Game, and I'll admit I was wondering "wait... do these two "love" each other"? But just that one scene conveys way more than most of the movies in between. It kind of sucks that they just abandoned those characters until End Game.
