I love your content. When I was teenager i also used filters for showing clear and fair skin and for sharp features but slowly as i grow up i also realized that im lying to myself and I'm not accepting myself as I'm and now i can post selfies with dark circles and acne marks. It's all about changing your perspective towards beauty. Thank you spill bee for talking about this, we need more people like you.

For people who have visited other western nations.. Must be aware how people stay for hours in sun to get the Sunkissed dark skin tone (kinda indian) I don't appreciate that but still think if Bollywood recognizes this and starts showing more of indian brown skin I bet it would bring alot of attention to the industry
PS -remember how everyone were simping over maitri's (never have I ever), simone's dusky skin tones. Even the Indians loved them

I usually am a silent viewer, but couldn't resist today. I totally agree with each point you mentioned. The unrealistic beauty standard is a bug which has bitten most of the users of Instagram too. Barely does anyone click a photo without using make up, and almost no one posts without filters. Even if they do, there are all sorts of people telling that yaar achi photo laga na, even to people not belonging to the glamour industry. For people belonging to the glamour industry, there are trollers, paparazzi and what not. And this obsession with flawless skin. Let me tell you that I had to under go a surgery (to correct a life threatening problem). However, the scars are more visible to the world than to me and I get all sorts of unsolicited advices like make up se cover kar le, god knows konsi cream laga le, wear something which covers the scar. And it's not even an inch of scar which is visible.... I remember once loosing my cool and responding "yaar ab insaan sundar dikhe ya zinda rahe". Someone contacted me as their daughter had a similar problem and they wanted to know if the scars will pose a problem when it's time for her to get married (that girl is 3 years old now btw) . I again lost my cool and said " Zinda rahegi toh shaadi karvaoge na? " Luckily I am blessed with the best parents who taught me right from day one to just ignore such stupid people

It's true... I can totally relate as I have fair skin and more than fair amount of hyperpigmentation which is still increasing.. people give me unsolicited advice of covering it with make up every day. I have over 50 dark spots on my face alone and they are growing, which concerns people around me more that it does me..

So happy that you talked about this!! A few years ago, a girl of Indian origin won the title of miss USA and it was a proud moment for all Indians. But she herself has said that she would not have won in India. Because she is too dark. And that’s the harsh reality. So in truth, women that are considered beautiful in America are not considered beautiful in India. Even though India tries to take influence from American beauty standards. In this case I think they should take influence from this also. There are always a variety of skin tones for successful models, actresses and pageant participants.

I feel it's very important to make people aware of the fact that fair skintone is not at all important for a girl to look beautiful. Thank you so much @spillbee to help people enhance their sensitivity towards people who have dark or brown complexion. It's all because of the shitty western culture....people have become completely mad for fair actresses and the actresses of dark complexions have always considered low standards. I once heard a dermatologist and a makeup artist say that “you should never expect your skin to be like models or be attracted towards them because no one actually has flawless skin, don’t forget that they use immeasurable amount of makeup to fix themselves which is naturally impossibly, the photos and videos of them you see are edited and multiple shots are taken with the presence of a hairstylist, makeup artist and designers.”

Actually the problem lies within us, we always like a person with fair complexion rather than a person with dark complexion. Kyuki pehele se hi logo ne line draw kr rakhi hai gore aur kale ke beech me. Even in some books we can see beautiful hona = gore hona and ugly hona = kale hona. Like bachpan se hi bacche ko smjha diya jata h esa. But now we need to spread awareness, which will take some time.

Are people really ready though? I was seeing Bridgerton and was struck by how it embraced the dark South Asian skin and put it up front, and celebrated it. And still I saw so many Indians saying couldn't they get 'better looking' actresses. Both the South Asian girls in that show are very good looking, so basically it means that these people didn't like their skin colour. Sad but true. As a dark skinned girl myself, I hate it when friends take pictures and add filters that make me look like a ghost, but just don't comment on it.

Very true.......look at USA, we have many main lead actress with Darker complexion even shows like Bridgerton made in Britain have lead actors with dark complexion...And here in Indian we have more than 50% with dark complexion...then too we have very few main lead actress with dark complexion.....I surely believe that if Simone Ashley would have been in Bollywood, she won't be casted even though she is an amazing actress.... Casting Directors should think that Indian is a country of people with varied colour.....Not always fair is beautiful...Such wrong beauty beauty standards should not be set.

But since the Aya masi is a bit on the darker side, everyday we get to see discrimination against her only because of her skin colour. But the irony is she cannot do anything without her help. We all laught at such things, the Aya masi too. But this is a very serious matter and is so deep rooted, that it's made its way into my family

Another thing about beauty standards is ageism.
I dont remember correctly but some bollywood actor said 'we don't hire older actresses because they dont look young'
Ageing is normal and its beautiful too.
Who the hell said that signs of aging are ugly? and why do we believe it?
It is is there in Hollywood and all over the world too, but that doesn't mean its not wrong.
Like older age actresses like Madhuri, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, etc who were superstars in the last decade are barely in movies now.
Whereas actors like Salman, SRK Aamir, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan, etc. Get casted with actresses who are their daughters age.

I forcefully made my fourteen years old daughter to listen to this...of late there seemed a distance coming up between us and then i realised she suffers from a great deal of insecurity in front of me as she is not as fair as i am , on top of that, when she comes up with various solutions found in UTube videos, i outrightly reject them .This outrages her . Funny thing is that even at this age of 55+, some of the family members of my generation still discuss my complexion and consider it below average on the scale of fairness... It’s not that they don’t have fair people in the state or they can’t get it from north or other industries but they want to speak the story of a typical girl next door and their girl doesn’t look like tamannah bhatia. Even sai pallavi with pimpled face being a tamilian was only taken in Tamil cinema bcos she gave a super hit movie premam in Malayalam industry. Same for actresses like nimisha sajayan who doesn’t even thread the eyebrows to look natural if her character demands it.

Talking about looks whenever we find someone looking different from us we find that wired and for most of the people it's not common for them to see them they make fun of them . Joke is still fine for a limit but hating someone because of what they look like is concerning. after that the fandom... is known for being the most toxic fandom in the world... although army's always do donations of millions and help others but their good works are always hidden behind their poor representation. Most of the people in fandom don't take critisism ( not most actually but many) and that's why haters use them for hating BTS . That's all i could say thanks for reading ❤️🙂
