Eat like it’s 1970’s. Pick 7 meals and make them every week. You know what portion you need. You know to grab another tin cause it’s on sale. It’s not just buying random things on sale. Eat boring. Eat what planned even if you don’t feel like it.
We Reduced the potion size of the meat we eat and add anextr vegetable to the plate. There are Only 2 of us occasionally we will share a small steak as a treat. Half the cost an we dont feel like we are missing out. Many people eat more protein than there bodies need.
My biggest tip is to not go shopping when you're hungry 😆 I'll buy so much more if i am. I'll add a handful of frozen veggies and rolled oats to things like instant noodles, cuppa soup, etc to add fibre and protein even when I've got no time or energy to make something from scratch. Means i don't eat as much or as often, because I'm actually staying full between meals. I grow herbs in containers in the kitchen, and keep spring onions in a vase on the bench. Adds flavour, they last so much longer, and I only need to buy them once every few months. Also things like lettuce and spinach, they grow well in pots and it means that the bags of salad don't die in your fridge. Each time i cook a meal, I cook extra portions to go in the freezer. Means that I don't get takeaway or expensive microwave meals out of convenience, because there's already something there.
I am trying to move to more whole foods and less processes foods. I do struggle with preparation and cooking of meals purely because I have severe ADHD and autism, I really want to eat better, but I struggle with executive dysfunction. I also have Coeliac Disease, so I need to have everything gluten free and I suffer from lactose intolerance too. But hey I am trying and I am getting better, it is just a slow process, but it is progressing so that's all I care about. So I do agree with decreasing processed foods and making things from scratch. I still eat meat and dairy and I will never stop eating those but I make my own chicken schnitzels and I make my own sweets, I don't buy the processed items in these types of foods.
Planning is best ❤ with flexibility on what's on special. I actually get very overwhelmed if I go in store without a list 😂😂. Your point of everyone having a different left over meal being OK is great! It helps reduce food wastage as well. 👍
We bought Easter eggs after Easter, not before -half price and kids are still happy they got chocolate. We don’t shop on a particular day-we try and buy when the cupboards are empty, big shop about every 9-10 days and avoid coles/woolies as much as poss as they are too expensive. We do do a top up shop with a shop walking distance from our house but it’s minimal ie under $40. We shop with a list too.
We don’t buy Easter eggs anymore. We buy blocks of chocolate when they are on good sale instead. The kids get more chocolate, better flavours and we save money.
I'm doing a pantry challenge now. I'm only allowed to go to the store if I run out of Tea, plant milk for my tea or gluten free bread. So far for May I've spent $22.86 USD! (I've tried making my own it's expensive, tastes horrible and completely wrecks my Campervan where my walking around area is literally the size of a yogamat, yay to 78sqft living space😂)
Awesome!! I always find it amazing just how much food we still have in our cupboards even when it feels like we need to go shopping! Sometimes we just need to think outside the box a little to see the meals!
Yes there are to many people eat to much meat. Where I live in central QLD I see cattle trucks and used to make me cry it just make me very sad when I see and animal trucks. Great vlog. We just have a footwork and 1hrs drive to Coles, Woolworths and Aldi.
I think people eat way less meat. Bacon is not a standard breakfast anymore. Eggs are not the daily breakfast either. We make eggs for dinner. Even the cage free, yes an exaggeration, are not horribly priced for a protein. Not even lunch meat is a given anymore.
@@michelle10261 growing up we would not buy the tasteless expensive fresh tomato in the grocery store 12 months a year. If potatoes bought would have for stew and mash and chicken bake that week. Get in a bag. Cost of 1 pound less than 1 McDonald’s fries. The celery would be year round and after cut left in the fridge in a cup of water with cut ends in the water. Corn was bought in a can unless it was late July and August. We have made energy dirty and dear. What did we expect it would do to food prices? I get the more humanly raised chicken and GF chicken nuggets and it’s twice as much. Portion sizes just less than when younger. Two meals instead of one.
@michelle10261 it can be a real struggle in the remote areas that are only serviced by an IGA. Prices are dearer, product choice is often limited & delivery may only come once or twice a week (so if something runs out, it can be a few days before it's restocked). I think sometimes people in metro areas just don't understand how difficult it can be in regional & remote areas. I hope you're finding ways to make it work 🤗

Moving over to a more whole foods diet can be a big change, and a process that takes time. It sounds like you're doing an awesome job ❤️
Main tip: Be less fussy!
Eat leftovers, clearance food, frozen bulk cooked portions, meat-free, rice/beans/oats, generic brands
And you can still eat well applying this principle! Love it! ❤️

We are U.S. but since we have an allergy we buy a lot of alternative types of food and meat is cheap in comparison.
