👉WATCH NEXT: Pantry Restock- Home Grocery Store: ua-cam.com/video/LCj0HAqm1qs/v-deo.html ✍She's In Her Apron Planner- shesinherapron.myshopify.com/collections/all-products
Best tip I can give is that if you think you don't have a place to keep a food storage, you are wrong! You can keep a year's worth of food for one person underneath a twin size bed. We have three queen size beds in our house. My husband and I have one and each of my girls. There is food storage under each one. I have long term #10 cans under my bed and my oldest daughter's beds. I have shorter term storage under my youngest daughter's bed. We have put all of our beds up on cinder blocks and removed the fabric from the bottom of the box spring. This allows us to store boxes, stacked two high under the bed. That gives us room for 16 boxes under one bed. Each box has 6 cans in it. We store everything from powdered milk to veggies, potatoes, baking supplies and more. Under one bed we use the long skinny under bed plastic totes. We can get 8 of those under one bed as well. We store bags of dried beans and over stock of canned goods, peanut butter, flour, sugar and more. I also store a lot of my home canned items here. Those boxes will easily fit jelly and pint jars with no problem. Being able to keep them under the beds allows them to remain cool and dark, thereby extending the shelf life of many items. Thank you Kimmy for sharing your tips. I have been doing food storage for many years. I think this may be a great topic for a kitchen table talk!
This is so awesome Noreen. Right now there is junk under our bed that we don't even need. We have a good sized pantry and an extra bedroom but the darkness under the bed is ideal.
My husband and I started in a small, one bedroom apartment that had a weird walk-through closet between the bathroom and our bedroom. Half of it was food storage. As was our dining area. We got a folding table and chairs so we could make room for big shelves. It wasn't pretty, but it worked!
Kimmy.... I'm not sure if you will see my comment here, but today is March 23, 2020 and we are in the midst of the Coronavirus, most of the world on quarantine! This video is exactly what we need right now!!!
I have always had food storage for a rainy day and used from it and re stock it so I always have it. We have been missing work a lot because I just found out I have breast cancer at 30 and had surgery. I was so thankful for my food storage to have that extra grocery money for incoming bills
Kimmie it’s now 2020 and I’m sitting here rewatching this video. Given the latest virus scare I’ve decided to stock my storage room with plenty of non perishable goods. A few months ago the flu took me out and do to not having food stocked away my husband ended up having to go grocery shopping for me. 😔
Plant a veggie garden if possible, plant things your family likes😀 plant veggies that freeze well like peppers and green beans. It's fun and also nice to have home grown veg in the winter
It may just be me, but I'm blown away by how different you look without your braces! I've always thought you were gorgeous, but you look like a whole new woman. I know it's completely off topic but everytime I watch your videos since they've come off, I keep thinking, "Is this really her?" LOL
Hubby got made redundant 3 years ago didn’t have a stock pile then so we’ve learned the hard way so now we have one and loving it what it does it gives you a peace of mind just incase of illness which I am in and out of hospital job loss kids if they get short anything in emergencies it’s the best thing we’ve started loving your channel 👍👍💗
Hi Kimmy👸 This is my passion!! I am a HUGE proponent of "being prepared"!! I have studied, practiced, and researched this subject for years. There is seriously so much information out there on food and water storage as well as nonfood, emergency, etc. For those who are just beginning or those who have tried to start again and again, it can seem very overwhelming. My advice to anyone starting out is, you can do it! Take it slow if you need to but be consistent. If cost is a factor, you can still do this. You can start out by buying two of everything for one meal and putting one meals worth aside if that's what it takes. You'd be surprised how fast it accumulates when you do this on even a weekly- monthly basis. To the subject of water💦, it is recommended to have 2 gallons per day per person- 1 gallon for drinking and 1 gallon for washing. This is conservative. I recommend storing water in a variety of ways if possible. Suggestions: Water jugs 1-5 gallon capacity(not milk type jugs as they break down will eventually leak), water barrels 35-55 gallon capacity(remember to purchase a siphon made for extracting when needed), commercial water bottles- remember to check for expiration dates or if expired could be used for washing, and for 72-96 hr kits I purchase mylar water pouches containing 1/2 cup water safe for car kits kept in the trunk keeping water safe to drink even with temperature changes. I also wash and sanitize, then refill with water 2-liter and juice-type containers- you know, the kind made from a thicker plastic. They don't leak like thin milk carton plastics and don't cost you to reuse. It is important to consider ways to and products needed to filter water if you ever need to, and when filling large water barrels you need to leave a few inches free at the top to allow for expansion due to possible temperature changes. If you do the math and consider space left at the top, a 55 gallon(blue barrel) will be enough water for one person for about 3 weeks. Okay, I will stop here(even though my brain wants to keep going💃💃💃💃). If you haven't started this process, please start somewhere. Water is necessary for life. Good luck everyone. Sending good thoughts your way :)
Barbara Rote- no, I do not. Neither one. I have been thinking about it, though. I do love helping others. I'm just a bit camera shy and would actually need to get myself a camera.
Nadine Frandsen ...thank you so much for providing informative information. I too believe in preparing for just in case scenarios. However, in the world of UA-cam preppers they not only talk about food prep but bug out locations, society collapsing, emps, and all sorts of disasters that me, an average grandmother, can't do or I fin myself shell shocked at all they want you to buy. As it is when I first started I know I bought things I will probably never use. I don't plan to live in the woods. How do you feel about storing long term food items?
MaintainingMichele .. I agree, I just mentioned to Nadine that when I first started to do a little more prepping I found so many prepping channels that wanted us to find a bug out location, prepare for disasters that are so bad most would say forget it. I m now back to more realistic prepping, like a snow storm where we could be snowed in for days.
What are good and bad containers to store water? I feel like soda bottles and juice bottles will make the water taste weird, and how long will it last? Should you plan on filtering it before drinking?
If you don't have room to store water look into LifeStraw! It makes all water drinkable, no matter how dirty it is! They run at about $30CAD for the bottle, but just the straw is cheaper or you can get the "family" unit for a bit more!
Love this, Kimmie. I also have a large food storage, and I personally appreciate you sharing your knowledge! I do all my own home canning, dehydrating, and cook from scratch. I think food storage is VERY important!!
Such great information. I’m a grandma and am only just starting. We’ve had life experiences to make me see the great value. We live on a hill so I wasn’t worried about many things. Then, in 2011, a major storm took out our power for a couple weeks. This made it impossible to even flush toilet. I drove a couple miles to take water from a creek. I now have three 200+ gallon totes from a food factory and. I’m going to set them up when it gets warmer. Will catch rain water. I appreciate your advice for saving water in jugs. Will start today. Any stored food would have been wonderful in the past 2 decades as (adult) my son has had 100+ emergency surgeries. As his guardian, I’ve spent much time in hospital with him. I see the value of having everything in home for even those emergencies. It sounds so doable. Thank you. Thank you. I found you because I was given a foodsaver and was looking for info and have now subscribed.
Did you ever try using a calendar just for keeping track of the expiration dates of your stored foods? That way you can keep track of the food and make sure you use it before it goes bad. Or maybe just make a list or chart of the expiration dates, then cross them of when you use them.
My side of the family thinks I'm crazy for storing. We live in earthquake country. I want to be self-sufficient. Having heard tales from hubby when he worked in Mississippi days after hurricane Katrina hit, we decided to kick it up a notch
I love this. All the commercials focus on the 'apocalypse type thing - not job loss. We've gone through a few rounds of layoffs around here. Luckily we had money for food, but a great idea. Inventory is so important. We've started doing this for our pantry/fridge challenge. Yes, we have a storage problem.
I liked your tip about putting a list of what you have on hand and putting it up someplace in your food storage area. I think I will include expiration dates so that I can see what needs to get used up at a glance. This was very informative, thank you so much!
Thank you for your tips. Ive been unprepared before when my husband lost his job to the point that I would stay awake trying to figure out how to make ends meet while still making sure we were fed more then just rice that was the worst year Ive had. So now I need to look more into food storage for long term so that this doesnt happen to us again.
Kimmy, food storage has been my passion since I joined the Church 40 years ago. It has really saved us. I have used 2-liter soda bottles and other sturdy plastic bottles to store water but I'm looking into barrels and IBC totes to expand capacity. One benefit of living I Northwest Florida is the growing season (almost year round) and our ability to obtain bushels of produce and meat at amazing prices. I can everything I can find at the time it is harvested and it gives us quarts of wonderful eating. Thanks for all the great info you give us and for showing what a wonderful spiritual family you have. God bless. Bunny in NWFL
I live in Florida and at least once a year we get a hurricane scare. I'm always wishing I had more water and canned food so I don't have to hit the stores at the last minute. Very helpful video, thank you!
Erin Beattie Yes! Hurricane season is here! I have never had a plan for hurricane preparedness but now that we have kids we just have to! Here in the Texas Gulf Coast area Ike kicked our butts and left us without power for 2 weeks, no gasoline, no water etc. pretty crazy! Def need to get prepared NOW!
Greetings from Miami! Yup- hurricane season is here. My household consists of the husband, fur babies and me! And we should really consider food storage!
I started my food storage a couple of years ago, and I have found, do not buy, what your family does not like to eat. It will go to waste. If the deal is too good to pass up, bless another family with it, or a shelter. Stock up on items you use every day. Keep a running inventory, of your food storage, and freezers, and always rotate your food oldest in the front. Love your channel. Great video!!
You are ahead of the game for sure. Struggling economies and jobless everywhere, in 2020 the tough times have arrived. I want that peice of mind for my family too. Thanks for the tips x
Love this video! I love the LDS web site (and I am not Mormon), the web site is great! I have cases of #10 cans of stuff I have ordered off there web page. They really gave me the boost to prepare. I have a spare bedroom for food storage, the closet in it is my cases of #10 can foods, buckets of wheat and I buy food grade buckets from Walmart and use mylar bags to store all sorts of food. I also try to prepare for not only my husband and I but our adult children and grandkids. Anything you can store is better then nothing. Thanks for the video hope you do more.
I live in a 2 bed 1 bath apt and made food storage in shelf in linen closet and small / inexpensive cabinet unit in dining room - I was laid off and with my taxes stocked up -on essentials / canned/ pasta/ etc it has so helped ease my mind . In the Bible many cases of famine and stock piling .
I live in Puerto Rico. Hurricane season is here and with the pandemic crisis; the stress is on. A lot of good ideas. Thanks for your advice and channel. 😀
I am from California so we always had to have emergency food for about a month worth due to earthquakes. We had to have battery operated fans, flash lights, extra batteries and lots more. My parents have those big water drum things. Not sure the tips on that. I also have a camping potable stove with propane so we can boil water or warm up some food if we have too.
I was looking for a beginner how to fit a friend. You starting out stating 'store what you eat and eat what you store' was all I needed to hear. That's what I always tell people and it works
I’ve never really had more than 2 weeks food storage. Luckily I revisited this a few weeks ago & could not be more grateful for this video. Thanks Kimmy
We've got a little bit of a food storage going right now. Mostly just the basics like beans, rice, sugar, flour and water. I've also accumulated a ton of cans over the past few months from sales and coupons. Right now I have big metal shelving units in my spare bedroom/office along the wall and it works out just fine :) It's definitely nice not having to run out to the store every time I need something! Thanks for the video Kimmy!
Brittany Carper .. I would like to store some larger amounts of food items, like rice, beans, flour, etc. However, I want to be able to use it and if I get a 25 or 50 pound bag of flour how do I store so that it does not go bad. I had thought of putting in glass canning jars but that's a lot of jars. Any suggestions?
Thank you so very much for sharing this is so very helpful. Since we are retired this shopping list will be very valuable to us. I do appreciate your kind heart.
Kimmy - I'm 19 and me and my fiancé live together. I always worry about what happens if one of us looses a job. These tips have come in handy. Thank you love from England x
THANK YOU for this video Kimmy! You motivate me to get moving on food storage. you are so right about the stress relief being prepared can provide. There is a lot of info out there on ho =w to get started but no one I trust more than Kimmy!!
THANK YOU so much for making this. Seriously making me look at planning my food storage. Usually small scale where we live but I love this idea!! xoxox Sarah
Thank you so much for sharing all the great tips and your churches plans. We are hurricane zone. We have clean brand new yard garbage cans we fill to use for bathing and toilets, we could use if needed with life straw. I fill all the pitchers with drinking water. We also keep gallons of water stored and rotate for outings.
Food storage is so important! My husband was on unpaid medical leave for six months last year, and worked part-time for another two months. Our food storage is almost completely wiped out as we have worked to get back on our feet, but I've just started to re-build it. It is such a life saver! I didn't have to buy laundry detergent at all, and went to our freezer, pantry, etc. for many things that we eat regularly. I'm thankful we're in the re-building stage now, and that we had it to start with.
I do have a stock pile of Items I am a couponer so that helps me a lot..... When I First Started out if I had a coupon I would buy it well that is not a good idea cause half the stuff I didnt use so it went to a food pantry.. I now stock what I eat!!! I do shop from my Pantry and when you notice things are getting close to date make sure you put in your kitchen cabinets as a USE SOON item.... My husband was just out of work for 2 weeks on a Company lock out and let me tell you 2 weeks with no check he is the sole provider wasnts as scary cause we had enough food to get us though for weeks if need be.... I stock TP and Paper towels also... I have not had to buy laundry Det for 2 years now..... I found some long time ago with coupon for 38 cents a bottle holy smokes I stocked up!!!! so ya.. I love that you say only pick up things you will eat that is the best advice ever!!!!
I love menu planning I started doing it this year bc I got tired of going to the grocery store so much a couple times a week. My family gets paid every 2 weeks and I know when we get paid and it turns out I have extra food from previous menu planning I am happy bc that is more money we can save! Also I love being able to mostly know what I have I was able to make a grocery list on the fly yesterday bc I forgot to do it the night before and it turned out I had a lot of stuff for my recipes at home bc I stocked up when there was a sale I really liked like for pasta
i really want to start a food storage just need to find room to store it. we have been through my husband losing his job twice now and it's been so hard to feed us! so now he is in a very secure job i really want to start preparing for the little surprises of life!
Rebecca Widnall do you know who Dave Ramsey is? I'd highly suggest following his baby steps for your money! then you will be very prepared for anything!
Np! We follow the baby steps at our house and it's very reassuring to know if my husband lost his job we would be financially ok with our emergency fund for a few months(while looking for another job).
LOVE THIS!! I learned what I've done all My life from LDS Church when I was a young teenager... I've been stocking food for years now !! Even though it's just hubby and me! I'm now learning canning & Dehydrating like I never knew before!! I love my Excalibur Dehydrator it's like Heathers from The Kneady Homestead I love following Starry's Homestead on Utube also Heathers channel The Kneady Homesteader (tell her Shey sent you 🤗) is great for canning and stocking and shopping hauls Mandy is so helpful on her channel Moore2 life !!! With all the above!! I'm also learning from Heather and Mandy Dehydrating from my garden which I love ❤️ Thx so much for these sites will see what I can learn as I too can always learn something new!!! I had upright Pantry's built for my dining area to help with over flow.. I'm in the process of taking my 3rd bedroom and buying shelving to get started on my canning as it needs to be kept in a cool dark room!!! Starry is great at long term storage and what to keep it in and cheap ways to get the sealed buckets the stuff they keep MRE's in etc. Check out I think you'll love her insight they live off The land mostly!!! Take care 💕Shey
Wow i randomly decided to binge some old videos of yours. This is the one i landed on. I was just thinking it is almost hurricane season here and we should stock up. Thanks for the resources.
My food storage area is really small, but like you I'm trying to build it up. My husband has celiac disease so wheat, barley and rye are no-nos for us. Gluten free products are expensive too, so I've been trying to stock up on them mostly. I also have a dehydrator and use that regularly to store veg and fruits. This video has great ideas and it's important to be prepared like you said!
We had a medical situation in 2015 and lived off our food storage for 5 months...and we could have went 6. During that time I learned what we were short on and ran out of first. I love sorting and checking what I have. I do believe we are going to have tough times ahead so I continue to do whatever I can now. I never want to not have what I need. Our garden helps alot!! Hope you do alot more videos on this in the future.
Maybe try container gardening first. Like a couple of tomatoes and peppers on your deck. I find that even though I'm not old I am hurting alot due to my accident so next year I'm going to do more in containers. We trying to rethink it and cut the garden in half.
A couple of years ago, I made one of the closets in my bedroom into an extended pantry. I keep food that I can and cases of can goods I buy on sale at the grocery in there. It's so nice shopping from my extended pantry. Great topic Kimmy and good information! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely loved this video Kimmy! My fiance and I have started a food storage room just in the past couple months. We store food and non food items. I cut the cost with extreme couponing for most of the things I stock up on. It has been such a blessing in our lives especially since we are in the process of planning a wedding and saving to buy a new home!
I made myself Food storage cards a few years ago. they tell me what to buy each month. If I'm stocked up on that item, I don't get it. I need to add things like hand soap to the list
Thanks for the links. I am also advanced beginner. I write the expiration year (17, 18, etc ) on the label and lid of cans, etc with a Sharpie marker so it is really easy to see. I really need the water storage ideas. We are on a well so if we lose power we have no water other than the few gallons that we have stored. My husband points out that there is a river nearby, but I don't want to depend on that.
I don't have a pantry in my kitchen, however, along two walls in the basement we set up shelving for our canned goods and supplies and our deep freezer. I'm not Mormon, but I totally agree with the reasoning and I love the Web site's you shared.
Thank you for making this video, I have been wanting to start a food storage but didn't know where to begin, I would love to learn more! Your smile is amazing, and beautiful.
2021, this video popped up, if we had started now we would not have a the stock gone off the shelves. I've started this year and I am enjoying the basics. Thanks Kim for your forsight into this. Diana
My husband is self employed as a landscaper. We've been married for 27 years. Which means no major income from thanksgiving thru March/April. I have always tried to stock up staples for winter months. But this has me thinking i need to get my butt moving. When stuff goes on sale that we use.. I'm gonna buy a several month supply... it makes so much sense... then I will never pay full price. Shop from your pantry. I couldnt imagine only shopping weekly and not having extra's of everything.. I think I would have a panic attack. Again Thanks for sharing I LOVE IT Thank you!!!
Just did this with my mom and dads pantry. I took a perm. marker in black and wrote the dates on the cans and such so they could see the dates easier than having to stop and search. Makes it so much easier for them and for my family as well.
My husband tore out an outdated bar in our family room and built me a 4x8 closet with floor to ceiling shelves for my canned goods. It's amazing. One tip I'd like to share, do not count on your freezers to store all your meat. You never know when you could lose electricity or one of those freezers goes out. I buy meat on sale and can it. We also buy a cow and pig every year and freeze it, whatever is left at the end of the year I can. The canned meat is amazing for casseroles, pasta dishes, salads etc. I also will take meat thats been in the freezer a little too long and can it for the pets. I make all their food from scratch. So much cheaper and better than store bought. Keep working on your canning skills. It's an amazing advantage to food storage.
Food storage has saved our behinds so often! It helps me save money, since I buy food at the lowest prices and store it, it's let us take food to people that needed it before we could get them to the Storehouse, it's kept us from having to use the Storehouse during months when we haven't had grocery money. Love, love, love having my food storage!
Great video! We have a small food storage, about 1-2 months. But I really need to make a plan and list of what we really need in the storage. We store in the garage near the door to the house.
Living on the East Coast we have to stock up for hurricanes. There are a lot of non food items we have to stock up on. One of the things people don't think about is to get solar outdoor lights. After the storm is over we put them out during the day to charge and bring them in at night for lighting that is safer and not as hot as candles. We also have solar chargers for our phones. We start buying water very early in the spring. This year we are thinking about getting a whole house generator that works on our natural gas.
Kimmie thank you for this video, my husband and I have been stock piling food, 4 years ago I lost my job and we had a stockpile that helped us get through for a few months, but now I need to do better.
You are even more beautiful without your braces wow! Great video, this truly inspired to put some much needed effort into food storage for our family. One of my goals for this year was to slowly put together an emergency kit and truth be told we have only a few essentials so far. I really like the way yours is planned out and the resources you provided. For some reason I was stuck thinking my emergency stash would just be food I shoved on a shelf and never touched unless there was actually an emergency but I love this idea of continuously using, replenishing and adding to it. I never thought of it like that!
You are so right when it comes to losing a job....as I lost one in April and so glad I had some extra food. I have to go through and make an inventory. Great idea. I so want to learn how to make bread from wheat too. I love fresh bread. I want to save for a nonelectric grinder for flour. will have to check out your church website. Thanks for sharing.
Kimmy, did you ever think a "pandemic" would happen? Me neither. I had what we needed, other than TP. True story! I just used the last of the toilet paper that morning. Then, March 16 we closed the childcare center down for 4 months. WOW! That's a reason to stock up. You never know what will happen tomorrow. I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth when airplanes hit the WTC. I had no clue that was going to happen. Great videos, Kimmy, and in 2022 you are still rolling on. Thank you!
I’m so happy to have found your channel! You have got such awesome ideas! I know this is an older video but seriously such great tips! I really need to do this for my husband and I!
How do you store water? Method A Thoroughly wash plastic soda bottles or milk jugs with warm, soapy water. ...Fill bottles or jugs directly from the faucet. ...Store sealed containers in a dark, dry, and cool place. If after six months you have not used the stored water, empty it from the containers and repeat steps 1 through 3 above. Thanks for this much needed ideas for food storage
About a year ago my husband and I decided to stock up on food but he likes to eat out so much that I ended up donating a lot of it as it reached it's expiration date. Now I am reluctant to spend money stocking up again.
Kelly Smith I have had the same problem in he past. I analyzed what we were not using and now only buy things that we actively use like Kimmy mentioned. Also, no more than what we would use in 6 months. So far, good.
Heidi Blair .. what are your thoughts on long term food storage items. I did buy some but now I don't know if I should use it and buy another or just keep it in storage. Guess my kids could try it.
I have bpa-free 7-gallon water storage containers from Walmart;I keep two in the bottom of my coat closet, two in my walk-in closet, and two under the counter in the bathroom. So as one person that could get me through several weeks of a water outage or water contamination etc without having to buy water. It’s already come in handy twice this year when waking up to no water because the apartment complex had to shut it off due to repairs and a line that was cut etc! I also keep a bottle of Purinize drops on hand for extra peace of mind in boil-water-advisory situations.
you are such a blessing for sharing that with us all. it's just me and my daughter and food is a constant worry. thanks for showing me how to get started.😊
Yes, I like this subject! I need fill my stockpile up! Also, stock up on medical.supplies, medicines, gift certifcates for gas, groceries, etc. I just put my water on my pladtic pantry shelf. I also have a garden and freeze and can food. We also, stock up on pet food and grandchildren supplies!
My biggest tip about water, as someone with disabilities who also does my best to prep and store, is to have places deliver it. Amazon, Safeway, Instacart, etc. They'll deliver it like any other grocery item. It makes it easier if you don't have to drag it home. Also, split it between gallon jugs and 20oz bottles. If you can go out and get it, most dollar stores sell 6 packs of bottled water for $1.
Thank you for this wonderful video. I kinda have started a food storage, but now I know how to better it. What I luke to do it when I purchase a can, I get a permanent marker and write the exp. date in front of the can. I also need to implement the store what you eat, eat what you store. Thank you and greetings from Los Angeles 💕
There are no case lot sales in our area but we do watch for the deep sales and jump on them. My husband went to pick up cans of diced tomatoes when they were 75 cents a can, there weren't any of the ones we wanted on the shelf so he asked for some from stock and the guy brought out 2... cans. My husband clarified that he wanted 2 cases and the guy seemed surprised but went and got them.
about dry pet food. it is cheaper in bulk but after a month my pets would act unhappy and showed it by inhaling the fresh food. i learned that breaking they dry food down into smaller bags i could freeze it and pull out a portion and they were much happier.
I store water in old juice containers , I change the water every 3-4 months. You can use this water for washing dishes, cloths, baths or for pets. I buy gallon jugs at the store and you can store for up to a year or till they expire, I rotate my jugs out. you can also looking into rain water collection. canning food can also add to your food storage and also a garden would be great, there are lots of options for small garden's.
Katie and Fidel Gutierrez ...thank you for the information on water Storage. I want to get bottled water at the store but I didn't know how long it would be good for drinking. The bottles are no longer stamped with a date. So gallon container will be drinkable up to a year? How is the taste after that long?
Since we got hit hard here in nc last year by hurricane Matthew we have definitely gotten on the ball of food storage, water storage, disaster supplies, and we got a nice generator. We were out of power and water for 4 days. They told us on the news that we were not going to get nothing off the storm here in nc and we got hit harder out of any other state and had the most deaths. It was definitely an eye opener for us!
I have found that when it comes to storing water I like using the soda pop bottles after they have been washed and bleached. Two liter bottles are easier to handle than a gallon jug of water and most likely when using water in a lights out or grid down situation you rarely use more than a single 2 liter at a time. I can stack them by laying them on their side and they do not leak plus if I need to have a kiddo grab one its easier for them to pick up one or 2 and bring to me. I have water under my bed, in my shed, & in my laundry room.
We are getting ready to move. So I just bought 3 book shelves and I store food on them in my living room & two in my basement. You can also use plastic/metal shelves from Home Depot or lowes. It was cheaper for me to grab book shelves from yard sales.
xOxOHaeee I understand your question wasn't for me....however, I also yardsale ALOT. If you're using the wood/PARTICLE BOARD bookshelves, make sure to flip the shelves about every three months or so. The shelves warp from the weight. If you forget to turn them, the crashing noise and sticky floor will remind you, next time.....Experience talking here!
thank you so much for making this video. my fiance and i have been wanting to do food storage in our garage but neither of us have a clue where to start and we lack case lot sales in our area. I usually stock up at Aldi and that's helped. This was super in-depth so thank you thank you thank you
Hi Kimmy I love that you bring some lightheartedness to the topic of food storage. Job loss is a vey real possibility now days so prepping for that makes good sense and bad weather to. Love your tips. Still waiting for HOW WE MET PART TWO. lol
Store rice and beans and on powder milk. I heard morning moo's milk is good . If un open last 25 yrs. If open a year. I have freeze dried food for some of our storage. Wise company freeze dried food. I know what mormans do raised in church. GREAT VIDEO! LOVE IT.
I have a functioning food storage as well and we store water and have a detailed first aid kit. In my second bathroom, I store those 5 gallon blue containers of water, stacked in the bathtub. No one uses that bathtub so its the perfect place, not to mention I hang a beautiful shower curtain over it and no one would even know it was there. :)
Kira Baker ... I have 8 of the 5 gallon blue water containers. I have yet to do anything with them. How long does your water stay drinkable and tasty in those containers?

2020 and everything she's saying is so valid. Job loss, security even the apocalypse
Noreen's Kitchen yes! My friend that lives in a small apartment does that exact thing. She stores it under her bed.
This is so awesome Noreen. Right now there is junk under our bed that we don't even need. We have a good sized pantry and an extra bedroom but the darkness under the bed is ideal.
Mama Kat's Homestead wow didn't think of under bed...great idea, thanks for sharing
My husband and I started in a small, one bedroom apartment that had a weird walk-through closet between the bathroom and our bedroom. Half of it was food storage. As was our dining area. We got a folding table and chairs so we could make room for big shelves. It wasn't pretty, but it worked!
Whats #10 cans? Great ideas and tfs! I'm just beginning to store food.
Jen Dyson yes this!! we have veggies and Berri plants growing and also have chickens for eggs!! 😁
Tesha Desarae my baby chicks are arriving on Saturday (6 of them) so excited😀
A Joyful Home good luck with your garden this year😀
aw that's great and thank you!!
It may just be me, but I'm blown away by how different you look without your braces! I've always thought you were gorgeous, but you look like a whole new woman. I know it's completely off topic but everytime I watch your videos since they've come off, I keep thinking, "Is this really her?" LOL
Cynthia DeWeese I completely feel the same way and that's what I was thinking about during this video!
Cynthia DeWeese qq
Was just thinking that!!!
was coming to the comments to say the same!! 😍😍😍
Hi Kimmy👸
This is my passion!!
Nadine Frandsen do you have a channel or a blog?
Great advice. We also store so we can help others. I had a friend out of a job and she was able to shop our "store". It's such a blessing!
Thank you for putting this out. You are the ONLY one who remembers to prep. for kids.
This is good to think about since hurricane season just started June 1st. Greetings from Florida!
I live in Michigan, too; and like to stock up in my pantry for stormy weather...
Erin Beattie yes this I am in Florida too! 😁
Yes! Floridian problems! 😁
Thank you!
Thanks Kimmy
we store water in milk jugs and empty soda bottles! we are canning for the fall right now jam and pears, applesauce! great video!
Thank you love from England x
ur eyebrows look awesome too...oh yea n thanx for food storage vid im always interested in seeing how someone stocks their pantry ty
Thank you for the tips! I really enjoy your videos.
Usually small scale where we live but I love this idea!!
xoxox
Sarah
Thank you so much for sharing all the great tips and your churches plans. We are hurricane zone. We have clean brand new yard garbage cans we fill to use for bathing and toilets, we could use if needed with life straw. I fill all the pitchers with drinking water. We also keep gallons of water stored and rotate for outings.
Hey Kimmy me and my husband live in the RV we took the bunk area out and made that are food pantry area.
Great video Kimmy! I love your food storage videos!
KariAnn Kirk i will go check him out thanks
I love my Excalibur Dehydrator it's like Heathers from The Kneady Homestead
I love following Starry's Homestead on Utube also Heathers channel The Kneady Homesteader (tell her Shey sent you 🤗) is great for canning and stocking and shopping hauls
Mandy is so helpful on her channel Moore2 life !!!
What a blessing you were prepared! I wish I was good at gardening. Something to work on.
Thank you so much for inspiring us to do better and to encourage us that we can do this! Love all of your videos!
You look so pretty in this video! Thanks for the tips too :)
New subscriber!! Thank you for all of the tips and resources!!!
Love this!
I can't stop looking at your teeth! 😂 You look amazing Kimmy!
homeschooling farm momma
girl, me neither... Lol they look good. ! 😀
Susan bond What!! Mom of 4? Wow.
Haha.....having kids does not make one any less gorgeous!
Hahaha me too!!
homeschooling farm momma omgi just realised she has her braces off! I was thinking she looks better!
Looking lovely and happy, Kimmy. Appreciate your tips and honesty.
Thank you!
Great video! We have a small food storage, about 1-2 months. But I really need to make a plan and list of what we really need in the storage. We store in the garage near the door to the house.
Great advice Kimmy. I watched this twice, thanks for sharing.
+Bettylou That's awesome! We're Davi f for a generator
Method A
Thoroughly wash plastic soda bottles or milk jugs with warm, soapy water. ...Fill bottles or jugs directly from the faucet. ...Store sealed containers in a dark, dry, and cool place.
I'm just starting my food storage. I'm working on dehydrating food and making meals in a jar. It helps with quick meals on busy days too!
+jackie That's wonderful
Yes, I like this subject! I need fill my stockpile up! Also, stock up on medical.supplies, medicines, gift certifcates for gas, groceries, etc. I just put my water on my pladtic pantry shelf. I also have a garden and freeze and can food. We also, stock up on pet food and grandchildren supplies!
Thanks so much for sharing this Kimmie!!! Have a good night!!!
I'm a Mormon too!!!!!..I am so glad your video spoke to me to watch!!!! HUGS.
Nice to look back on this when times were good.
AWE!!!!! Ur new smile shows just how much u SHINE
BEAUTIFUL🤗
Thank you for this wonderful video. I kinda have started a food storage, but now I know how to better it. What I luke to do it when I purchase a can, I get a permanent marker and write the exp. date in front of the can. I also need to implement the store what you eat, eat what you store. Thank you and greetings from Los Angeles 💕
Thank you for this! Macey's is doing their Caselot right now. Guess I better go get some stuff. I always forget about Lehi Mills too. Thanks again!
You are amazing, thank you for sharing the blessings that God has gifted you with.
I know this comment is not food storage related but Kimmy you are absolutely glowing in this video. So beautiful!
+Ashley Riser oh wow! Glad you're getting things in order
EchoesOfAnAngel ...how long will water, stored the way you do, be drinkable? Thanks
This was super in-depth so thank you thank you thank you
The braces were worth it they look amazing!!
I have a tiny food storage 😂 I used to have loads but slowly stocking up again x
Hi Kimmy I love that you bring some lightheartedness to the topic of food storage. Job loss is a vey real possibility now days so prepping for that makes good sense and bad weather to. Love your tips. Still waiting for HOW WE MET PART TWO. lol
+johanne cowan Thank you! Yes it's coming 😜
I was excited when I heard you were gonna do this in your last video. thank you :)
