- A video i made to show an oil change on a Yamaha TTR90E
The tenth digit/letter in the yamaha VIN is the year of manufacture.
The letters I, O, Q, U, Z are not used to avoid confusion with numbers.
1980 A
1981 B
1982 C
1983 D
1984 E
1985 F
1986 G
1987 H
1988 J
1989 K
1990 L
1991 M
1992 N
1993 P
1994 R
1995 S
1996 T
1997 V
1998 W
1999 X
2000 Y
2001 1
2002 2
2003 3
2004 4
2005 5
Everything that follows the year digit/letter is the serial number, i.e. a sequential value that shows when the bike came off a given production line.
so, "JYACH01W3WA001674"
is a 1998 (W) model WR400F, and this was the 1674'th bike produced from production line "A".
Watched video and changed the oil on my TTR like a boss because of your expert instruction . two thumbs up .
Great video...
But at the end you had me thinking my phone was acting up LOL
I was gifted a ttr 90 and I have been watching all of your videos big help thanks
+ghost79641 - thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. My neighbor got a TTR 90 without a manual. On the oil I was told to uses the same type 10-40 or 10-30 but to use one made for motorcycles due it won't foam up or such. Won't hurt but I know Auto Zone carries it.
My original bike a 2001 TTR 90 the first bike I learned to ride on it's been sitting in my basement for 15 years over the weekend I pulled it out put new gas in the tank cleaned the original spark plug and it started right up the tires even still hold air once refilled of course and the only other thing I can think of doing changing the oil which is also original and it should make a great bike for my nephew to learn how to ride as well...
heck yeah!
I use Bel Ray EXL 10W-40 for my TTR 90 and all my Dirt Bikes and yes It will take almost the whole Quart on the 90 when totally drained.
Depending on temp for oil weight 20w-50 is for higher temp climates 10w-40 colder climates
Does it have to be 4 stroke oil or any kinds car oil as long as 10w30
I read that there's a metal screen for the oil somewhere, is it possible or necessary to clean? Btw I just bought a used 02 TTR90 and your videos are a lifesaver. Really appreciate the great info!
There is an oil strainer screen. Its behind the clutch housing, not the easiest to get to. See the picture here (its item #5) i61.tinypic.com/wbqoex.jpg
Jerry - as long as its 10-40 you should be good, some use 5-40
does this same thing apply for the regular 90 because i relize this is the 90E
Does it matter what oil we put in? Mines a 2003
what oil I should use for Yamaha TTR 110?oil name?
I just bought one 2003. Does the black fuel line under the carb bowl connect to anything?
No it’s a relief or over flow
Awesome sauce! Thank you for responding! So I’ve been riding it a bit now. But it doesn’t idle. When I stop reveling it dies. I’ve changed oil, cleaned carb, changed jets and fuel. I don’t know which screw/ or screws are the idle.
Couldn't find the vin on my dirt bike
Why do you use the old oil on the threads? What's wrong with using one smear if the new stuff?
Heffrey Howers you can definitely use new stuff! Sometimes you have none leftover so just easier to use old.. either works!
Hey man just bought one and the engine is smoking up a bit it is used and has been sitting a bit could it be the oil? Also I think it may have a bit to much oil in there so could that also be the problem?
Usually if your bike is smoking a bit, it has too much oil, I would change it and look at your bikes Manuel to see how much oil you need, hope I could help!
How much mills do you put in the bike
Can you show me how to change the freewheel starter
sorry, i no longer have the bike, otherwise i would definitely show the replacement
Where do I find the serial numbers?
Is there a filter?
there is no oil filter but there is a Cleaner screen/strainer.. I didn't know it at the time, but it should be cleaned as well. It does not say anywhere in the routine maintenance section to clean that strainer. My understanding is you can get to that strainer without removing the pump.. From what i read is online: "remove the bigger drain plug on the left hand side - a big 17mm.. just spray it with contact cleaner and call it good..." I don't have the bike anymore, so i can't test it.
Hey my friend has a bike like this
Hi how much oil i have to use? thank u
i think most years are the same - mine is .85 qt (.8 L). Hope that helps.
how often should I change the oil ?
+Bape Jackets - Jay - a lot of people suggest every 10-15 hours of riding, but at a minimum - once per riding season
Is it bad if I put the whole quart ?
Yes
Adding too much oil can blow out gaskets and create other problems so never overfill... if you do easy quick fix is to take the filler cap off and just tilt the bike over... much easier than trying to do it with the drain plug
Hi My 10th digit is 5 ,Is it a 2005,, And whats the difference between a ttr90 and a ttr90-e ,,Thanks
