He's really awful in romantic comedies! I love Carlyle, and 51st State sounded like it would be great, but from what I remember, it was Carlyle, Jackson, and the cast of f'in Brookside!
Robert Carlyle publicly supports Partick Thistle... ...privately he supports Glasgow Rangers He might even support Liverpool FC these days as well though. Samuel L Jackson certainly has a bit of a soft spot for the Anfield club as he showed in June 2020 after Jurgen Klopp led them to the Premier League title.
There's my house in that scene (with the red car in the driveway). I was 10 when this was being filmed. I remember watching the scene where they all chase the car being filmed about 20 times out of my bedroom window. Had no idea who Robert Carlyle was then :P
Absolutely love this movie! Anyone ever notice the sign in front of the pub reads "Manchester United v Liverpool" meaning the game will be in Manchester yet the game at the end of the movie is in Liverpool?
The parish was the birthplace of the Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Football Club which was established in 1878 and later become the world famous Manchester United. It began life as a football team formed by Frederick Attock, a Liverpudlian who was a superintendent engineer of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway(L&YR).
Mersey26 D Purely from a production point of view. Better sense for the cast & crew to save the money and time filming one scene in Manc, when it could be done with the rest in Liverpool. Those of us who don't know it as a Merseyside pub are none the wiser. But it's Interesting nonetheless to know that it was. I think a movie depicting gangland factions from both cities who end up going to war over drugs or guns would be a less cliched, repetitive take on the genre than the countless ones that have come out of London over the years. Could be a trilogy. North West, North East and Yorkshire. A Northern series.

Hahaha the pub isn't even in manchester thats the yew tree pub in Liverpool west derby my cousins lived there for years spent a lot of my childhood round that place.
That pub he went in with all the mancs is actually in Liverpool. its in Huyton, actually where I'm from, Yew Tree cemetery is behind it and me dads buried there. loads of the locals dressed up and took part for a laugh. People in Liverpool always take you as a person rather than a star. Samuel L Jackson has always said it was one of his best sets to work on, he even went out on the piss in town an had a ball!. most of the other actors where local tv legends.
Funny how Carlyle's character hates the Yanks and the Man Utd fans are singing "Glory Glory Man Utd" to the tune of the Yankee Civil War song "Battle Hymn of The Republic"
I remember watching this movie and this scene was different. He walks into the pub, and he shows his jersey, but then he grabs the pool cue and starts whacking it on the pool table and swing it around while mockingly chanting "Livahpoo......LIVAHPOOL!!" I think that was funnier.

Robert Carlyle is a true legend . YNWA forever and ever
I don't even curse, but I have to say that Robert Carlyle sounds pleasantly hilarious when he curses.
I agree with u there!
I was in this part as a extra in the red hat as a Man U fan :/ easy £50 haha.Great experience and got to talk to Robert Carlisle top man!.

Not realistic at all. You'd never find that many Man Utd fans in a club in Manchester...Bangkok maybe.
You definitely wouldn't in a pub in Liverpool and that was filmed in Liverpool lol
Still funny I say it as a Man Utd fan
Must have been filmed in Surrey
