I wondered about Kazuki and Ryuhei Kitamura. This woulda Ben cool too. Also agree with your rankings if GxM and G2K swapped. GxMG vs GMK is tough though. I’ll add these videos are very well done and detailed. It’s enjoyable to watch or listen to in the background for information (I am often multitasking and my Japanese is very rusty so I always have to pause if I’m on a ladder and a Japanese quote comes on). I wish Hedorah got more screen time in GFW. I got to meet Banno in 2004 at GFest where they premiered GxMxMG:Tokyo SOS in the US and he was great and I’m sure would’ve been happy if Hedorah got more than 10 seconds on screen again. Wasn’t a fan of GFW but as you said it’s better on rewatch. GxM also isn’t bad besides that leap scene but I prefer the Heisei atmosphere. Was good to see angilas again though. I’ve been a fan since the Showa era (as in pre-89..). I remember my surprise learning Godzilla didn’t end with 1985 when I first got the web in 93, then found I’d missed one with DAM. Such an enjoyable watch with the AIP bootleg, and those horrid Heisei dubs for GvKG and GvM92 (the bio dub wasn’t bad). Been sub ever since with GxvMG93 but can enjoy a good dub like G2K
I view Final Wars as the biggest homage to all of the craziness that is Godzilla. You have all these classic monsters, X aliens, mutant super soldiers, and all of the amazing action. This is still my favorite Godzilla film alongside GMK.
The casting itself was one giant homage. A majority of the actors, young and old, from different eras intermingling onscreen. Some even from stand-alone, non-Godzilla Toho films.
Honestly, I really enjoy this movie just because of how balls to the wall, batshit insanely over the top it was & because of that it's actually one of my favorites of the entire franchise. "...I recommend for people who are just getting into the character?." Wouldn't that be more accurate to say, "...for video gamers, BOYS, & MEN in the 18-40 age group?" LOL That's the "people" you really mean. Or maybe, "...people who are WWE (WWF wresting) fans." For PEOPLE who are older or female, this would be a terrible movie to use to INTRODUCE the "character"! It's the stereotype of a Godzilla film. Non-stop fighting is fan service, not something that will engage most newbies. Godzilla 1985 is probably the best of the older Godzilla films to use to introduce the CHARACTER (not just show off special effects). For modern audiences, one of the new American Godzilla films (2014 or G v. Kong) would be better for special effects AND for character, b/c Big G actually HAS a character in those films. He even has a character in Shin Godzilla. I noticed that he takes a lot of abuse in his "second land form but doesn't fight back. It's only in his final form that he goes on a rampage. He had only been destructive b/c he was so big (& outright clumsy in his first form), not b/c he was malevolent. You’ve done an awesome job with these videos and I personally wouldn’t see a problem if you need to take a break before getting to 2014 because you’ve put in insane work making these. Thank you again for what you do.
Thank you!! Yeah it'll probably be a while before I touch on the modern stuff in the history format. I do want to go back and work on the showa era re-dos for a while and work on some non-Godzilla stuff. I appreciate the kind words and hopefully you enjoy going forward as well!
It frustrates me that we still haven't gotten an S.H. Monsterarts figure of it yet. When the line launched back in 2012, Final Wars was the most recent G-film back then. I have waited for this variation of Godzilla to be adapted and I still am. Damn...
I love this movie. It really does capture the entire history (at that point in time) of the Godzilla dries. The goofy, outlandish Showa versions as well as the practical effects and great shots of the Heisei era. I feel like it was a great commemorative movie for celebrating 50 years of Godzilla.
One of my favorite movies! I'm 57 years old and I still love watching Godzilla movies! The 90s and early 2000s movies I used to think were the best but the 2014 and the other 2 are just great! Flat out great!
Just finished this whole playlist! The amount of dedication and you put into these videos is incredible and I’ll be looking out for more👍👍 You should be proud
Final Wars is and always will be my favorite Godzilla film, barring Monsterverse KOTM. It has monster after monster, wicked fights both human and not, and a score that sticks with me even today. I bought the DVD for it from a BestBuy in '06 or '07 and it was an awesome time. Now that I'm older, can safely say this is the most extreme live-action movie and most high energy Godzilla movie ever. One of my favorite things about the movie is Godzilla's design. He is the perfect balance. He's powerful and heavy but he has a sense of agility and speed. His longer fangs and talons makes him look far more menacing, his longer arms gives him far more reach (he throws more hands then I've ever seen in any other movie). And his atomic breath...sweet Lord is his atomic breath amazing. And that Red-Spiral Final Shot when he launched Kaiser Ghidorah into the freaking stratosphere never fails to send a chill down my back and a stupid smile on my face.
I can't wait to see the rest of the series of GODZILLA history. this lizard has come such a long way since 1954 so it's always awesome to see him change with the times his movies are from.
I completely understand the break you’re taking between the Japanese Godzilla and the American iteration, but I really hope it’s not TOO long of a wait for the next video
This movie holds a special place in my memories as it was the first Godzilla movie I saw and the one that got me into the series. Despite its flaws if it wasn’t for Final Wars I probably would’ve never became a fan of the franchise but even aside from that I like the movie for its action sequences on both the human and kaiju aspects.
I love to listen to you review all the Godzilla movies while I am working. It has a strangely calming effect on me. And, well, it's Godzilla so it's awesome.
Since the latest one, I’ll say I’ve had such a nostalgic trip watching your videos and learning about the movies I grew up with. Your videos are so perfectly well informed and splashed with good jokes, I really enjoyed your content.
God I love Final Wars. Its over the top, batshit insane, ans has a crazy sounstrack and matching cinematography. Is it a masterpiece by classical terms? Of course not. Its just good fun. But hey, people will shit on any G movie you like after the heisei era. GMK? KoTM? Shin? 2014? Doesnt matter. At this point I'm just enjoying the movies for myself. Not trying to share my love online, but if I find a moment to, I relish in it.
My favorite part is this: 7:02 - He mentioned future directors like Gareth Edwards, Hidieki Anno and Shinji Higuci, Michael Dougherty, Adam Wingward, and soon: ME.
American-born actor Kane Kosugi's 1st name is actually in English, so it's just pronounced as how you would pronounce it in that written form. His Japanese name is Takeshi, but the only people who call him that, according to him, are his grandparents and sometimes his father, Sho Kosugi, when he's upset or mad at Kane.
Thank you for creating this video series. As a long time fan of Godzilla I am still learning new things from these videos about the background and plans for different movies. Godzilla Final Wars is best viewed by an audience that knows not to take it seriously. Its a guilty pleasure and mindless fun. I will say that Final Wars probably has one of the most entertaining human cast of the Godizilla films and Don Fry is a big part of that.
Fun fact: that one song that plays at the beginning and end of the movie was a rejected Emerson Lake & Palmer track. You can find recordings of it being played live, under the name Crossing the Rubicon
I appreciate the amount of effort that goes into these "History of" videos. I was actually on vacation when this video dropped and I made sure to wait patiently until I got home and had the right setting in order to sit and enjoy this one.. especially considering that it's an hour and some change. It’s funny you talk about the divide in fans. Im a big fan of this ridiculous movie while my cousin hates everything about this movie. Also nice Nagatoro reference haha
15:10 Insane take from my point of view. This is one of the first tracks that comes to mind when I think of Godzilla every time. It sounds perfectly in line with the Army March theme from the original. It pays homage with it's admittedly out of place upbeat tune while showing us essentially the equivalent that this modernized world of monsters has to the military in the original. One of my favorite tracks from any of the movies.

In conclusion, I love your videos and I hope the best for you.
This movie is amazing, despite it's problems. I did go some years believing this is probably a bad movie when I was younger & imagining how it could've been better. But around 7 years ago, I just excepted it for what it was & love every bit from cool to silly.

I showed this movie to my former roommate who wasn't into Godzilla. He loved it so much, he made his friends watch it during his bachelor party. In fact, most of my friends end up loving this movie. Not sure if that says more about me or the movie but I'll take it!
i have a huuuuge sweet spot for this one, this was my favorite film until i was like 8 years old. i just remember watching all of the older films with my dad and when we finally got to this one i was so awe struck by every time a new monster showed up. it was like playing with toys but on the big screen instead of in my living room.
I always really liked this one. It was chock full of monster fights, even if they were kind of short, but that is and was always the biggest draw for me. This is why, while I enjoyed 2014, I felt it was far too focused on the human element and didn't have enough of the monster fights and destruction I was there for.
After each movie I ran to watch your video about it. Sometimes I was more excited about your video than the movie it self. Keep them history-rich and long. Thanks.
Hey man, thank you so much for doing this series. I've been a G-Fan since I could breathe and these have been awesome to listen to. I originally wanted to have them on in the background while I worked but I got so invested I actually just sat at my desk and listened attentively to each episode. Looking forward to you covering the Monsterverse and Shin!
I absolutely love Final Wars. It's easily my favorite of the Millennium movies and it was the first Godzilla film I was hyped about when it was coming out, (I wasn't aware of the newest movies until after Tokyo S.O.S was out on DVD) and I remember hearing a rumor that the "American Godzilla" would be in it and I was so excited about that fact. Sure enough, I wore out the part on the DVD where he fights Zilla because of how many times I rewatched it. I also remember the day I found out that it was the last Godzilla movie (well, at the time of course) and I was strangely okay with that fact, I guess kid me really thought it was a decent send off. At the same time, I couldn't wait for him to be back. I'm really glad you covered this whole series, it's definitely been a lot of fun keeping up with. I can't wait to see you tackle the Reiwa and MonsterVerse films, if you do them I mean. 🙂

Final Wars absolutely has its problems, but it's definitely within my top 5 Godzilla movies. I love the camp, seriousness, Super Sentai, knock-out brawls, and sick ass music tracks.

This is my favorite design of Godzilla and it goes well with movie. The slim body makes up for all the walking and swimming he does 🤣🤣
Baddas Godzilla
It frustrates me that we still haven't gotten an S.H. Monsterarts figure of it yet. When the line launched back in 2012, Final Wars was the most recent G-film back then. I have waited for this variation of Godzilla to be adapted and I still am. Damn...
@@cadethumann8605 it's gonna be made along with zilla and mv mechagodzilla i believe.
@@cadethumann8605 they actually revealed SHMA Godzilla 2004 a few months ago. The release date is still to be announced.
@@christiandenault7606 AWESOME.
HELL YEAH FINALLY
this movie was a blast
Dude seriously, your videos have been my favorite Godzilla “reviews” in a long time
Heck yeah! Was hyped for you to post this
Final Wars is and always will be my favorite Godzilla film, barring Monsterverse KOTM.
I love how the director even kinda questions the whole process of the movie occasionally like it was a fever dream or something. Love this movie.
I completely understand the break you’re taking between the Japanese Godzilla and the American iteration, but I really hope it’s not TOO long of a wait for the next video
Time to watch the entire playlist ALL over again. Gotta love replay value.
haha the old showa era videos are going to start coming down as I redo them
@@BigActionBill I would love to see a playlist of the movies in chronological order by the film's release date.
@@BigActionBill can't wait for Mothra Vs Godzilla, my favorite Showa Godzilla movie!
@@BigActionBill is that why I haven't seen any from the 70s? Can't wait until you redo them.
Always wanted to know a bit more about this movie. Thanks man
This movie holds a special place in my memories as it was the first Godzilla movie I saw and the one that got me into the series. Despite its flaws if it wasn’t for Final Wars I probably would’ve never became a fan of the franchise but even aside from that I like the movie for its action sequences on both the human and kaiju aspects.
Same. Plus watching Godzilla whip zilla’s ass is amazing
Interviewer: So, how did you write the plot for this movie?
“We played with Godzilla toys for several hours.”
Interview: Nice.
"Three grown men playing with godzilla toys till the right combination was found."
Makes sense
Gordon was one of the things that made the lengthy human centric side of the movie okay to me. the guy is freaking awesome XD
I love to listen to you review all the Godzilla movies while I am working. It has a strangely calming effect on me. And, well, it's Godzilla so it's awesome.
I love how the cast is full of Godzilla veterans
this is one of my favorite godzilla channels, your humor and references and jokes are on another level
Just had to play that adorable Baragon clip 😍
My favorite part is this:
7:02 - He mentioned future directors like Gareth Edwards, Hidieki Anno and Shinji Higuci, Michael Dougherty, Adam Wingward, and soon: ME.
Best of luck, hope to see your movie in the future
AT LAST!!! Keep making awesome videos bill, looking forward to the newer movies!
Your content is so freaking good. I have watched so many of your videos. Great job!
GIGAAAAAAN, RISE!!!
The impersonation at 19:17 was pretty good.
Then again I am drunk watching this so..
What a brilliant video. Loved it, subscribed, and I definitely plan on watching your other Godzilla vids!
No wonder you took so long
It was a long video
Well done
I heavily appreciate this
Thanks for the video. My kids and I recently watched all of your Godzilla history videos and have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this one.
Sorry for the cursing lol!
Yes, and it’s a GREAT track.
I appreciate the amount of effort that goes into these "History of" videos. I was actually on vacation when this video dropped and I made sure to wait patiently until I got home and had the right setting in order to sit and enjoy this one.. especially considering that it's an hour and some change. Keep it up man.
Dude your Don Frye interpretation was on fuckin point bro I deadass thought it was him until you said it wasn't,also wasn't crappy you straight cappin, good job bro I bet Don would have loved it
I just found about this channel and this video, never before have I laughed as hard as I did nor find anything here as dull or boring, and oh my god I love the clip at 26:15 there's so many things in behind the scenes that just makes you feel better about how much work and joy went out of this. Also you have a great sense of humor and voice. May God bless you for making this and wanting wore out of this.
Almost every single weekend, I always watch your playlist. Not only is it a review from a movie genre from 1954 to 2023, but it also has some nice Easter eggs and trivia. Not only do love your reviews, I love your hilarious sense of humor, but I love knowing the fact you gave highly appreciated all of the hard work for the people working from Toho to make these films. In conclusion, I love your videos and I hope the best for you.
That’s really nice to say, I hope you continue to enjoy.
Your welcome. I will continue.
This movie is amazing, despite it's problems. I did go some years believing this is probably a bad movie when I was younger & imagining how it could've been better.
But around 7 years ago, I just excepted it for what it was & love every bit from cool to silly.
I mean it is Godzilla. He is either the silliest and dumbest thing imaginable or the darkest and most serious thing imaginable.
Have utterly loved this playlist. I don't actually know much about kaiju, and this was an excellent start.. I'm going to rewatch this a lot over the coming years. Your efforts are much appreciated. Great work.
Where do you get all this behind the scenes footage?
From this movie specifically the behind the scenes stuff comes with the Blu-ray of the movie
Like the music meme but it not lame when you got family
He's a secret spy from Toho 😏😏
@@BigActionBill I checked this movie out from the library back around 2006 on DVD and, since I love the commentary on the creative decisions made in movies, I always watch the movie first, then watch it again to hear the Director's and/or actor's commentary. But I honestly forget everything he said!
The narration has been wonderful, entertaining, humorous, and pleasant to listen to. Well done!
This is one of my favorite Godzilla movies. I love that it feels like a modern Showa film.
Idk why YT algorithm is recommending me Godzilla videos but this is the best and longest one I’ve seen as of late. Great journalism done in this video!
I felt this was an homage to all the insanity of the early Godzilla movies. I really enjoy it for that because it never treats itself too seriously.
"Even Gordon with his big balls and mustache can't stop him" - hilarious
This was my first video of yours that was in my recommendations. I enjoyed it and now I’m just going through all your Godzilla movie reviews now. I can’t wait for you to hit Shin Godzilla! Subbed!
If you ever do the history of Shin Godzilla I would be through the roof happy. Thanks for the great content!!
Congratulations Bill! You made it! Thank you for these videos
it's been quite the trek
Love that Baragon roar clip! Great video as per usual. Keep it up.
This was one of the best videos UA-cam has suggested to me.
Very well done, perfect amount of humor, and so much information. Subscribed.
Thanks.
Hell yea!! You finally did it 👏
long journey
Thanks
That's very kind of you, thank you!!
Happy you're enjoying them, I will work hard to keep improving
damn........ time to watch every video this channel has ........ too good
I absolutely love Final Wars. 🙂
I swear to God I had no clue how long your video was because of funny, informative, and fun this must've been to make. Thank you, I always consider this the weirdest movie but will watch it for stupid "what the hell is going on" laughs.
Thank you Bill for a truly great upload loved it 👍
Just wanna say thank you for all the Godzilla videos you made
Final Wars absolutely has its problems, but it's definitely within my top 5 Godzilla movies. I love the camp, seriousness, Super Sentai, knock-out brawls, and sick ass music tracks.
Yay! Finally, I’ve been patiently waiting for this video. Thank you for putting so much effort into these amazing reviews/retrospective, especially for such an amazing and bonkers movie
You are not a loser, love these G videos Big Action Bill!
*Virgin FW Ebirah:* gets killed by Godzilla, almost killed by Mutants, manages to miss hooman-sized prey
*Giga-Chad Showa Ebirah:* survives Godzilla, eats tasty hoomans for kebabs, easily skewers prey w/out trying
*We now see who's the lobster lol*
Ahh final wars i remember when this came out in 04 and i was hyped for the monster mash up madness
AAWWW YES! Always a good Sunday when Big Action Bill drops an hour long vid
I watched this movie with my friends, and MAN did we have a good time! Godzilla Final Wars is a lot more fun to watch with friends than watching it alone.
Were your friends regular people who weren't fans or fans themselves?. Cause if they weren't fans and STILL enjoyed this then that says alot about the entertainment value of final wars
@@Kaiju-bm4ts theyr'e non-fans.
@@luralord9202 that's shocking, was it English dub or English sub?
I try to introduce non fans to godzilla and I have no choice but to show them the monsterverse films first and only cause people are too spoiled by cgi to give suitmation a shot.
@@Kaiju-bm4ts It was subbed. They found it hillarious with Gordon speaking his cool english while everyone else speaks japanese. And oh, I should mention that my friends like anime.
@@luralord9202 idk if liking anime has anything to do with it since some of the people I know like anime and I still find it difficult to get them into kaiju stuff unless it's the monsterverse or kaiju anime. Final wars basically acts like a live action anime so it's still shocking they liked it at all. If they liked final wars they'll likely love the kiryu saga and SSSS gridman/dynazenon
Great video, I normally can’t sit and watch hour long videos but I was really intrigued by this one!
18:51 that mustache is the 3rd most dangerous entity on planet earth.
I have watched all of your videos so far and I very much appreciate and enjoy them. Godzilla was my absolute favorite when I was a kid. I'm currently trying to share that love with my kids! Please, if they are fulfilling to you, keep making these videos!
This is still one of my favorite movies, it’s non-stop fun and action
Always really enjoyed Final Wars ... it was out of control!!
The fact they didn't bring in a new and improved 100 meter tall Kiryu to fight alongside godzilla and mothra is criminal.
I can’t believe you are the first person to cover every single Godzilla film from 1954 all the way up too 2004
I'm not lol
@@BigActionBill ok then we’ll you deserve to be in the hall of fame cause you deserve it
Way to make a homie cry at the end 😢. Your videos were and are great. Those boos at the speech really resonated with me.
the power of background music!
