Obviously it's still bullshit and should be disputed but I'm just guessing that's the reason this video is having more problems
It's not free promotion, this movie has been out for 10 years. It's fair use, which is supposed to be legally protected but legal protection only goes as far as you can afford to pay a lawyer.
Warner Bros has been a mess this current year after their parent company ran into money problems. From finished films getting canned as tax write-off (Coyote Vs Acme), the direction in live-service that games are being pushed into as well as all the partners they're shutting down.
Man, I remember the release of this film like it was yesterday. The hype was INSANE, and while the film itself didn't quite live up to my expectations, I still have fond memories of that time and being excited for a new American interpretation of Godzilla in theaters.
After 1998, my expectations were on the floor, so I loved this one. Sure, I bitched a little about the Godzilla screen time (though it's almost the same as the 1954 original movie in terms of sheer length of time onscreen), and the wooden human characters, but goddammit those were small, petty complaints and I still love this movie, just watched it again after Bill posted the first version of this video.
I already knew it was gonna be better than the '98 movie based on the Godzilla design alone - plus based the amazing trailers, I was expecting something haunting and epic. The movie only gets extra points because Godzilla fights a monste (which I wasn't expecting). In hindsight, the movie probably would have been better had it just been a solo Godzilla movie since the lack of monster action and constant teasing backfires on the director since the final fight as a whole is nothing to write home about and kinda underwhelming after the film hypes it up as much as it does.
They keep striking and I'm gonna keep rewatching it. Also this reupload didn't show up in my sub feed at all. Only noticed because it was on the homepage
I'll never forget seeing this in theaters back when I was like 14 I think I had convinced my foster parents to take us after showing them the trailer, The lighting wasn't bad actually I think it was the first home release that got choppa'd. Splendid to see mention of Godzilla-Thon as I feel a lot of people got introduced and reintroduced to the franchise through that means in the early days of UA-cam. I feel like this series truly has become the fitting successor, the type of video essay that I love to listen to over and over again. Absolutely fantastic work Bill, fantastic!
Fortunately, Takarada's scene in G2014 has finally been released after 10 years in a recent Monsterverse boxset. Hopefully you can comment on it in the Shin Godzilla video.
Man I'm sorry Big Action Bill, this video is so good it must be so frustrating that WB keeps taking it down. I commented on the original video about a sorta re-write that I think would fix some of the issues with the movie. I'll do it again but I'll keep it short. I have two pitches, 1. Joe dies but a tad later, and 2. Joe makes the credits. But before that, I have one extra scene addition to go over... - This hypothetical scene would take place right after the opening credit. We open with the people of the Philipines, a few of them are discussing the miners and the work they are doing, and how it just feels off, and how they may be responsible for the earthquake that took place a few hours earlier. we would then cut to a young child, watching the waves in the stormy night, they notices something in the water and they go to tell their parents. It's a rainy stormy night so we don't really see what is out there, but whatever it is makes landfall, and passes over the mountains. We only really see glimpses and shiloettes, maybe a quick shot with flashing lightning, something is curious about the recent events. Then the movie would cut to the next day and Serizawa/Monarch arriving. everything remains unchanged exept Serizawa sees some footprints along the island. This new 2-3 minute scene would do a few things to benifit the film. It would give the Audience and screenwriters what they want, Godzilla right away without revealing him fully. It also serves as a slight homage to the 54 film and establishes Godzilla as activeley aware of the M.U.T.O, he's not hunting it yet as its radioactive signature is too small at the moment. Establishing Godzilla like this would also help fix the whole "Oh btw Godzilla is in this movie, here he is now!" delema, as he sorta just shows up literally out of the blue, at least now his been set up as at least awake and aware of the change. The rest of the film plays out the same, up until the moment Joe dies, here's where my 2 pitches come in. 1. Joe dies, just a bit later. So here Joe survives his incounter with the MUTO, and actually learns about Godzilla, something I think was a huge mistake in the final film. He tags along with Ford, but being he isn't a military man, sorta holds him back. He's there with Ford on the monorail, and goes with Ford during the train scene. Here he is killed off by the Female MUTO. This would set up Ford wanting revenge of sorts in the final act, one MUTO killed his mom, the other his dad, and now they both threaten his remaining family. We would get a bit more Joe, and set up Ford more so he isn't so bland. But I think the 2nd pitch is better 2. Joe makes the credits. In this pitch, after the male MUTO wakes up and Joe is injured, Joe stays with Monarch on the S.S. Saratoga to recover and learn more about the MUTO and Godzilla while also giving some information and theorys of his own. Everything with Ford stays the same, maybe add a small scene with Ford and Joe having a small fight as Joe still refuses to move on despite knowing the truth now. Ford says his goodbyes to Joe and tells him he is going to to do exactly what Joe said, he's going to keep his family safe. Not too many extra scenes are needed here, just some interaction between Joe and Serizawa. Joe does and learns all he can, but he sorta has closure, FFord was right, he knows what happened to his wife and why. He realises his priority now is his own family, he needs to move on. With the help of the Admeral, he learns of Fords location and sets out to locate him. His son is putting himself in the direct path of these monsters, and Joe with his new found drive sets out to save his son. Joe reunites with Ford shortly after the train attack scene and the two together do the halo jump. It's such a beautiful scene, and it would show how much both characters are there for eachother, if they are willing to jump from a plane together. Now if you don't buy into Joe being able to do that, you could just as easily have him arrive in the city with the military, and reunite with Ford in the city. Joe's going in while everyone else is evacuating. Ether way, both men are in the city and working together. The rest of the movie plays out the same, though I'd actually have Joe blow up the MUTO nest while Ford and the others move the bomb to the boat. You could have a nobel sacrifice here but if Ford lives in the scene then so can Joe. Godzilla kills the MUTOs, Ford, El, Sam AND Joe share an embrace at the stadium, as a complete family. I think the second pitch would fix a few issues with the film, it would make us care more for the human drama, we would want to see this family come together again after splitting at the end of the first act. It's also thematically fun, as the MUTOS are also trying to build a family. The human drama would be less boring and even have some drive behind it. with these small changes we effectiveley give the audience and screenwriters what they want first up without spoiling anything and setting up the tone. We also keep the human story from growing stale.

I was in the middle of listening to this at work yesterday when the video got taken down and I was really disappointed. Glad you had it back up so quickly! You do a great job and I will check out your other videos!
I loved this movie and I still love it to this day. Without this film I wouldn't have been a Godzilla fan today, I remember initially being afraid of Godzilla as a kid but after watching this film in theater's both my life and mind changed forever (In a good way)
I started a binge watch of Godzilla films and all things closely related such as Mothra films and Rodan, War of the Gargantuas, etc. Between each I watched your history of each film because I love knowing stuff and I’m a compulsive completionist. I watched every minute of your History of Godzilla 2014 (longer than the actual movie!). I really appreciate all the effort you’ve put into these and I’m subscribed now because I’m looking forward to the rest. Great work and thank you. Once I’m finished with all the films I will do a write up of Godzilla films as a whole. I’m not sure yet as to the unique angle I’ll come from but your videos have been resoundingly influential on my turning mental gears. You rock!
I’m currently watching all of your history of Godzilla movie videos and I greatly appreciate the amount of work you put into these videos. Absolutely fantastic and extremely entertaining. Thank you for putting these together.
Sorry your video keeps getting taken down bill. If it makes you feel any better i saw the original version when you first uploaded it. Not only did i find it informative but you also helped me appreciate the film more knowing about some of the history behind it! Hopefully this one stays up
@@saulcervantes1975 As of right now, i think its Warner because they took down the video and I haven't heard of Toho doing the same to any of the history videos
I don't find Gareth's direction frustrating at all. His restraint with Godzilla and his Speilbergian approach to Max's script are what really sell his film for me. Compared to the sleep-inducing sequels that came after, it's nice that Gareth stuck to directing Godzilla as a slow-burn thriller.
The 2014 Godzilla is in my top five favorite Godzilla designs. It’s unique enough to distinguish it from past incarnations but is still unmistakably Godzilla.
Had to watch this on my TV 📺 absolutely brilliant video. Wasn't a big fan of the film myself but knowing what kick start the franchise up again was really interesting. Can't wait for the next one 👍
Thanks for this awesome documentary/ retrospective on the beginning of Godzilla's modern age and the birth of the Monsterverse! I really enjoyed every minute of it and learned a lot about the creation of the film! I had actually forgotten that Gareth Edwards was the director of this film, and after watching The Creator, I can say that while Edwards makes some very beautiful films on a visual, detail, and technical level, he's usually too eager to subvert expectations for the sake of subversion that it comes at the cost of the story, characters, and enjoyment of the film watching experience. Also, his insistence on characters looking sad and pensive as the way to sell human drama and "seriousness" is over used and results in weak characters. Still I do enjoy this take on Godzilla, and thought it was a great way to revive him after FInal Wars and have enjoyed everything we've gotten since!
Agreed bro. Being a huge godzilla fan doesn't automatically make you the best person to make a godzilla movie. It feels more like "Zack Snyders Godzilla Justice League Cloverfield" than a Godzilla movie to me.
I really love you history of Godzilla videos they are a great watch. I have also watched the playlist multiple times. They are also a great thing to fall asleep to.
Thanks for touching on the sound design. One of the most memorable things from this film was the incredible soundscape and noises of the MUTOs. Even if the rest was a bit disappointing overall, those sounds live rent free in my memories
There are multiple videos out there about this movie and none is taken down like this, what the hell. I have to assume it's some automated thing detecting a couple copyrighted scenes, then either a bot or a WB employee who doesn't give a shit looks at the length of the video, assumes this is the whole movie uploaded, and takes it down.
haha that's what i was thinking too, maybe also my thumbnail choice. Either way, im done editing this thing, if they hit me again im disputing it. One way or another it'll be up, whether that's now or months from now.
1:29:41 Yes, it is coming from Godzilla. It's the humming of his radiation. You obviously remember it more prominently when he's charging up his atomic breath and the humming rises in pitch.
Being a huge godzilla fan doesn't automatically make you the best person to make a godzilla movie. It feels more like "Zack Snyders Godzilla Justice League Cloverfield" than a Godzilla movie to me.
There is a 16 minute video on UA-cam that shows all of the deleted scenes from Godzilla 2014, one of them shows the full deleted scene that has the Akira Takarada cameo.
i always loved the idea of godzilla making landfall causing an actual tsunami. hope the copyright claims also will stop now, your channel is the BEST all things godzilla history.
Man I’ve been watching your videos for years now and I just gotta come back and say thank you for making these heartfelt documentaries. The details and trivia you choose to include are just *chefs kiss*. Keep up the great work 😊 Edit* sorry to hear about the CR nonsense. I know how frustrating that can be.
I honestly saw every Godzilla film, at the time, leading to the hype up of this movie. I do agree completely that this film rejuvenated that enthusiasm to be a Godzilla fan and I'm grateful for it.
Man do I love these and am so happy seeing this in my feed! Started watching Goji films in February and as of today I am over 12 films deep! My current top 5 because why not: 1954 Shin Hedorah Destoroyah 2014 Yet to see Minus One... Honestly, I wanna make this big essay on all the topics these films cover as well as relevancy in the Japanese and global cinematic landscape. Currently is my research stage and your work is a big nice roundup of everything happening in an entertaining, polished yet character-filled way. Kore-eda is indeed great and cheers from Croatia!
This was great. I love all your videos. I hope to see all new videos for the new movies, including Godzilla Minus Zero. Alien (1979) is what I think of regarding "hiding the monster".
I probably don't comment enough and sorry it's taken a while to get around to watching this. I'm a massive Godzilla fan and your videos are great love letters to the franchise.
I'll rewatch the entire thing yet again Bill. With the quality of your videos and the time and effort you put in, it would be a crime for me not to. Your amazing work is highly appreciated.
So, finally, after many MANY re-watchings of your entire "History of..."-videos I will leave a comment regarding Godzilla (2014). First, I hugely enjoy your style. Most of the history of this movie was already known to me, so there wasn't a huge new ton of information for me, but your style in narrating and the occasional joke really made my night (yes, it's 1:49 in the morning). And the second is just a general thing about the MonsterVerse, namely that, when I got into the MonsterVerse, I was looking at the release of Godzilla: King of the Monsters and really had my troubles to differentiate it from Toho's Universe, most likely do to Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah. But anyways, keep up your great and awesome work and a heartfelt SKREE-ONK!!!
I was introduced to Godzilla through the 1998 film. When I heard they were making a new one I assumed it would be like that movie or maybe a sequel to ‘98. Mind you I was a little kid at the time and wasn’t fully aware of who the big G really was. SDCC 2013, the Godzilla Encounter reveals a look at this new design and I was scared of it… which means I was HOOKED. From the Teaser Trailer, TV Spots, and sitting down opening weekend, Godzilla (2014) introduced me to a whole new world of Godzilla both old and the future.
I got through half a watch before it went away. I figured it was something about copyright or something. But keep on keeping on. Love this series you have done.
Thank god I downloaded the original upload before it was taken down. I remember the hype for this film. The anticipation was off the charts. Saw it opening night and was entertained but felt something was missing. As it turned ALOT of fans felt that. Your thoughts on this movie mirror mine. The Godzilla design is great, the sound design spectacular!, Bryan Chranston is brilliant and the first act grabs your attention! Everything else however falls immensely Short and offers little rewatch value. I enjoyed Kong skull Island and Godzilla vs Kong much more.
Being a Godzilla fan, I actually felt that this evolved version stayed true to the original we all knew and loved. I wasn't pleased with the 1998 version which used a different kaiju named Zilla (Godzilla: Final Wars).
Good news is GxK is the last WB Monsterverse movie, so I hear. Apparently Legendary is trying to work with Sony next, and it'll probably be nice to have a Japanese based studio in charge of the American Godzilla.
@@arthurreid6108 I’ve heard that depending on how well GxK does Adam Wingard will get to do another and finish his trilogy of sorts. Lots of conflicting reports
@@supportiveduck It's all up to Legendary and who they want to work with. I kinda hope they'll let him finish the Godzilla/Kong trilogy, but after that they should split them up. I want to see Godzilla fight more Americanized versions of old Toho monsters.
I love your content, great work. I always thought that the "brown note" sound was g man's internal "reactor" hum. Most generators have a drone-like sound in my experience.
This movie is still one of my favorite in the franchise. I fully buy into the human drama of this movie. I will never forget being in the theatre with my dad and cheering when Godzilla fired his atomic breath for the first time. The music, special effects, and story are all top-notch. It's not without criticism, but it stands tall in spite of those critics. It barely misses out on my Top 5 (Gojira, Minus One, Shin, The Return of Godzilla, and GMK), and I love a large number of Godzilla movies.
What's funny is the reason Jaws went the slow buildup approach is because the animatronic sharks kept malfunctioning. If they had worked properly Spielberg would have very likely had the shark onscreen much earlier and more often.
I watched the original upload and the re-upload every night. I would rather watch the history of Godzilla 2014 than actually watch Godzilla 2014. note: I love godzilla 2014, but I love Big Action Bill more
I remember when I had seen this in theaters clearly. I was sick at the time so everything kinda sounded like it was muffled and the human scenes with Ford were starting to make me lose interest, but when Godzilla step in front of the airport terminal I could feel the vibrations from the speakers and my eyes were immediately glued to the screen. his popped my ears and I cold hear it clear as day.
1:18:54-1:19:13 I thought the exact same thing. The Helicopter flying over the Philippines reminded me of the InGen Helicopter flying over Isla Nublar from Jurassic Park. They used the same helicopter, just with different logos.
I always think the noise we heard when we see a bit of Godzilla was like a growl or a grunt similarly to what he has made before in the eras before this film.

I love this movie. This and the 1954 original is what got me into Godzilla. Thank you for making this!
As a long time and huge Godzilla fan I really appreciate all the research and detail that go into these videos thank you so much these are great!
It’s a real shame that all of this hard work gets taken down. Beside from that, great job on the work! 👍
(Sorry for being late)
Come on Warner Bros leave Bill's fantastic video alone. Here's another one for the algorithm brother
Thank you very much for all these lengthy and comprehensive videos/documentaries.
Sorry your video keeps getting taken down bill. If it makes you feel any better i saw the original version when you first uploaded it. Not only did i find it informative but you also helped me appreciate the film more knowing about some of the history behind it! Hopefully this one stays up
I love these videos so much bro, shame they took it down so many times
I dunno who is more trivial at this point....Toho or Warner
A better question is: who is more petty?
@@saulcervantes1975
As of right now, i think its Warner because they took down the video and I haven't heard of Toho doing the same to any of the history videos
If you've seen what warner is doing with their games and films, them by a mile
I don't find Gareth's direction frustrating at all. His restraint with Godzilla and his Speilbergian approach to Max's script are what really sell his film for me. Compared to the sleep-inducing sequels that came after, it's nice that Gareth stuck to directing Godzilla as a slow-burn thriller.
Great work as always, sir. Your godzilla content is always a must watch for me.
The 2014 Godzilla is in my top five favorite Godzilla designs. It’s unique enough to distinguish it from past incarnations but is still unmistakably Godzilla.
1:53:12 - The funniest thing i've ever heard Bill say ...and my exact same reaction when I first saw this movie!
You are one of my favorite creators! I don’t like or comment as much as I should, but I you are incredible
Had to watch this on my TV 📺 absolutely brilliant video. Wasn't a big fan of the film myself but knowing what kick start the franchise up again was really interesting. Can't wait for the next one 👍
Woo welcome back, missed your videos. Can't wait to see more of your videos- you give good content and your videos are very detailed!
Appreciate the video man👍
Thank you so much for all your hard work on this. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute!
I didn't think I'd be able to watch a video about Godzilla (2014) that was longer than Godzilla (2014), but here we are. Made me want to subscribe
3rd times the charm. Keep up the hardwork Bill.
A triumph of a video Mr. Bill. Keep it up
hope this one stays up, mate. best of luck
00:19 - Me at the family function stoned out of my mind
This doc is rad! Thank you
Never stop making these
There is a 16 minute video on UA-cam that shows all of the deleted scenes from Godzilla 2014, one of them shows the full deleted scene that has the Akira Takarada cameo.
FINALLY! I only had about 20 minutes left when it got taken down WHILE I WAS WATCHING
Thanks for your efforts. Glad I downloaded the second version you upped.
i always loved the idea of godzilla making landfall causing an actual tsunami.
hope the copyright claims also will stop now, your channel is the BEST all things godzilla history.
Man I’ve been watching your videos for years now and I just gotta come back and say thank you for making these heartfelt documentaries. The details and trivia you choose to include are just *chefs kiss*. Keep up the great work 😊
Edit* sorry to hear about the CR nonsense.
My current top 5 because why not:
1954
Shin
Hedorah
Destoroyah
2014
Yet to see Minus One...
Really enjoyed this. Thank you.
I'll rewatch the entire thing yet again Bill. With the quality of your videos and the time and effort you put in, it would be a crime for me not to. Your amazing work is highly appreciated.
man again!!! hope this one stays lmao still a awesome video bill and welcome back again lmao
worth the wait!
Think the slow build and even the tease at the airport fight was brilliant. I think he did it to avoid fight fatigue and keep it grounded.
Here we go,
Into the Monsterverse.
Again. Shame Warner Bros. got stingy.
@@arthurreid6108 Agreed man I wouldn't mind seeing godzilla solo and kong solo again
Warner Bros still owns the rights to the Monsterverse@@arthurreid6108
I ain’t eva gonna stop liking and commenting on the video!!!!!!!!!
I love your content, great work.
I always thought that the "brown note" sound was g man's internal "reactor" hum. Most generators have a drone-like sound in my experience.
Awesome video thanks 🙏😎👍
Let the man create!! amazing breakdown of this film.
Great video!
Pretty crazy to remember how much effort goes into a single movie
Ohhh this is an ACTUAL history of godzilla lol i was looking for something else but this was great too!
Cant wait for the history of shin godzilla video
The King is back.
As in, BAB is back making kick ass videos!
I will once again be watching the whole thing for algorithm's sake o7
This movie is still one of my favorite in the franchise. I fully buy into the human drama of this movie. I will never forget being in the theatre with my dad and cheering when Godzilla fired his atomic breath for the first time. The music, special effects, and story are all top-notch. It's not without criticism, but it stands tall in spite of those critics. It barely misses out on my Top 5 (Gojira, Minus One, Shin, The Return of Godzilla, and GMK), and I love a large number of Godzilla movies.
I’ve watched this video twice so when you reuploaded this you still get my views and likes
I simply cannot stress enough how exited I’m about the upcoming Shin Godzilla video!
Cannot wait for your Shin Godzilla review!
Lets do it one more time!
Great video!
I liked this video the second you mentioned godzillathon! I loved watching it as a young kid!
What's funny is the reason Jaws went the slow buildup approach is because the animatronic sharks kept malfunctioning. If they had worked properly Spielberg would have very likely had the shark onscreen much earlier and more often.
I stopped watching the channel for a few months and… a video on 2014? Hell yeah!
Your history video is more entertaining than the movie you are covering lol. Excellent work.
I just thought it was the sound of him moving 😂
