When Terminator Godzilla sheds its fake skin to reveal the mechanical nightmare underneath to the world with the camera cutting to all of the different parts and armaments it has, and that upbeat but imposing music always makes me smile. It’s one of the coolest villain reveals in the Godzilla movies and movies in general.
Let’s go my favorite Showa era film
My favorite Godzilla showa Era film,my favorite GodIlla film and my favorite film of all time!
Preach!
Me too
Yo you have my name bro😂
Definitely one of the best Showa Era Godzilla films. On par with Mothra vs Godzilla, Invasion of Astro Monster, and Destroy All Monsters. I always loved this movie as a kid!
This MechaG is always my favorite. I love some elements of the other design but this movie was my favorite of the era. MechaG was so sinister and brutal and had a band following him around playing an evil theme. That first fight in the movie had so much tension and wasn't even the main event.
Appreciate your videos!
Agreed
I agree this mechagodzilla is a threat to the world not just Godzilla which makes him more a more intimidating villain monster
@@lukegulley1095 It's pretty interesting and shocking that a machine like Mecha Godzilla can be as strong as Ghidorah himself by handling 3 or more kaiju on his own! Crazy stuff!
I like how geometric his body looks, it definitely sells the robotic factor for me
25:55 Fun Fact: Dr. Gori was also the major inspiration for Craig McCracken to create and design Mojo Jojo for The PowerPuff Girls.
So, with Kuronuma's line about King Shisa rousing/awakening other monsters, it's more a reference to the legend as it states that two monsters would join together to save the world. At that point in the story, none of the characters were expecting Godzilla to be the one to join forces with King Shisa to stop Mechagodzilla.
Ahhh that makes sense, thank you!
The Jet Jaguar mask looks like the Sam Rami Green Goblin mask
Sorry babe cant go out tonight, Bill dropped another history of Godzilla episode.
What I love about Miyarabi's Prayer is that Bellabella's intensity and the visual of Mechagodzilla stomping up make this a weirdly tense scene. It's like trying to start a car to escape a slasher villain, but instead of the engine stalling, it's trying to sing an ancient song/ password. Sure she's singing "Ceasar" a dozen times, but it's like what she wants to say in her heart is, "START YOU HUNK OF JUNK!"
As for the the ape aliens' transformations being 2spooky4u, I know exactly what you mean. It STILL gets me.
Thanks again for covering one of my favorite Godzilla movies. It's enriching to be able to appreciate all the work and sacrifice that goes into these works of art!
I've never really looked at the situation that way before. Even as a child I started wondering "Why couldn't MechaGodzilla just fly over to where King Caesar is rather than walking?" As for the alien henchmen morphing into a half-ape humanoid, the only minor thing that actually freaked me out was when he suddenly lunged and attacked out of nowhere while emitting that monkey-like shriek. That part for me was basically a jumpscare and what also didn't help is that I had the volume on the TV a little louder than usual.
This was also the first Godzilla film I can remember seeing as a child. It seems to be a lot of people's first. This one holds a special place in my heart and I'm so excited for this review.
I’ve been waiting for this one for so long. This was the first one I ever saw. I found the VHS tape at a garage sale and fell in love with Godzilla movies. Ironically I ended up stationed in Okinawa!
We are both lucky for watching this film as are first! Bro fist 🤜🤛
The first Godzilla film I ever saw back in the mid 90s, and still my favorite all these years later.
Thank you so much for the trouble you go through to put these wonderful and insightful retrospectives together!
Angy getting his jaw broke messed me up as a kid
I had a dual VHS box of this and Godzilla vs Gigan as a kid. I watched them both so many times that the audio track is absolutely toasted for both movies. Years later, I found a dvd of Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla at a used video shop. When I put that thing in the player and heard that swing band Mecha G intro it brought me all the warm fuzzies. Thank you for covering one of my favorite movies of all time.
Had the same boxset, and still do.
As a working musician for the past decade and lover of music literature I NEED to tell you how much I appreciate how you verbalized your feelings on the scores.
The more I learn about music I'm convinced that "music that makes you want to think" and "music that makes you want to dance" are the only two genres of music lol great vid
Great timing bill! This was actually my first Godzilla film I'd ever watched and to this day I still love it and the style of it! I wished the whole showa era was like this style but that only happened later on. Anyways thank you for this history video! 💯
Me too man, but I saw it in 2000. For the record I don't count the Trimark...film?...as a Godzilla movie so my claim holds 😁
some reason have a love for Showa era move’s
I think the reason stills of Ghidorah are shown during Nami's prophecy are to show that this film's monster is as terrifying/powerful if not more so than the Emperor of the Cosmos.
I always thought how cool it would've been for Toho to dish out just one last Showa film after Terror of Mechagodzilla, where King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla team up against Godzilla, who would require assistance from King Caesar, Anguirus (healed from his injuries), Jet Jaguar, Rodan, Mothra and Gorosaurus to save the day!
@@christiandenault7606 I do remember something else that would be a fitting ending.
This was the second ever Godzilla movie I watched after Godzilla Vs. Gigan. To this day I still love that the music for the battle scenes and Mecha-Godzilla's theme was jazzy, it somehow works and hits so hard.
Always good to see Bill bring us back to the big G-man. Cheers Bill!
One of my first Godzilla movies and probably my 3rd favorite Showa movie. The miniatures are fantastic, the SFX are great and far surpass the previous 4 movies, the monster design is unique, and the music is absolutely BANGIN'.
My second favorite Showa Era Godzilla film -- Godzilla vs. Hedorah being the first -- when I was a kid! I cannot wait to watch it! Keep up the good work! Cheers.
King Cesar is also my favorite Toho monster after the King himself. I have loved this series of videos and hope you will continue them after Terror. They are very informative and well-researched. Best Kaiju fan on UA-cam.
Patiently waiting on the History of Terror of Mechagodzilla
sorry for the wait, life is not cooperating lol
"Big budgets don't mean better movies" Shin proved that and blew Legendary's attempts out of the water.
Debatable when shin gojira had mostly positive reception in Japan and mixed reception everywhere else, on top of that legendary did a better job at making godzilla emotional/expressive than shin gojira and the later reiwa godzilla incarnations
@@Kaiju-bm4ts only reason why, is because the majority of western audiences have been conditioned to Godzilla VS (insert flavor of the month monster name here) movies since Godzilla Raids Again.
Legendary films, vs Shin show two very different ways.
Shin shows, an EXTREMELY realistic movie, and shows how screwed the world would be if something like Gojira came ashore, and also serves as a cautionary tale about nuclear fallout/ waste not seen since 54.
Whereas Legendary follows a "cookie cutter" format and follows the typical dreck of US monster films of "let's use nukes to destroy the monster".
Not to mention that with each new director, the monsterverse got worse and worse. The only good thing that came out of it was Kong: Skull Island..
@@WorldTravelA320 Shin gojira isn't a realistic movie, the term you're looking for is grounded and it's the setting that is realistic, not godzilla himself. The moment they said he shouldn't come on land, that's where the movie should of ended cause any kaiju would collapse underneath their weight due to the cubic square law. The movie is supposed to represent the Fukushima nuclear disaster which is something not all Americans can relate to when America as a country had nothing to do with it unlike the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
There's 2 sides to godzilla's character and Japan is sticking to a experimental side where godzilla is the antagonistic while legendary is handling the simple heroic side that toho is either taking a break from doing or not doing at all so what's the issue here?. Godzilla is niche in America and Americans aren't gonna sit down and watch any Japanese film unless they're that open minded to foreign films (which they aren't) or they're interested in becoming godzilla fans or just interested in Japanese entertainment overall.
Legendary is doing what toho has done in their 3 previous eras and toho has expressed nothing but support for the MV and are even working with them atm so what is your argument here? Especially when only g14 wanted to use a nuke to get rid of kaiju. I don't recall ksi, kotm or gvk using nukes to kill something. Comparing shin gojira to the monsterverse is like comparing the death star to an orange because they're both round. Both are too different to be compared because both represent 2 different sides of godzilla.
@@Kaiju-bm4ts what I mean by realistic, no annoying super weapons, no mechas, just straight up conventional forces.
Only reason the vast majority of American fans hate it is because, we saw how weak our weapon systems would be.
People still talk about Shin. Legendary..... not so much.
@@WorldTravelA320 dude there's no "vast majority" of Americans who hate it when it's 50/50 across most English speaking territories, that includes America. Shin gojira has mixed reactions among English speakers at best. Americans who like it, like it because it's different but faithful
Others that don't, don't like it because it's either too different for their taste or godzilla doesn't come off as emotional or expressive, that has nothing to do with the lack of monster fights or advanced weapons so please stop misinterpreting why Americans love or hate shin gojira if you're not from America or even in America
The fandom talks about legendary and shin almost daily so....what are you on?
I can’t believe I missed this on the day that you posted it! I am so happy to see you’re continuing the series! Keep going! These deep dives are awesome!
This may be my favorite one of them all & I have patiently waited for you to cover it. Thank you for all your hard work on these videos.
Finally! Probably the most fun and entertaining Goji flick for me. Thanks for bringing this videos Bill.😀
I binged your entire Godzilla content a few weeks back and my God was it fun. Probably some of the BEST Godzilla content online. Got my dinner ready, can't wait to watch this.
YES!!! AT LAST!!! This was my introduction to Godzilla. It’s still my favorite. I’m so happy it’s being covered! Although Miyarabi’s Prayer seemed to last forever, I still rewinded that part a few times. The version sung on the Best of Godzilla 1954-1975 was what I had access to for awhile and it too felt like it lasted forever. I only recently found the actual soundtrack of the movie. I was really excited.
Thanks for bringing up Gojiban. That series is pretty wild, but it gets kudos for being the first film showcase of the phantom monster Bagan since the initial showcase in Super Godzilla.
These are very well done. Thank you. One of my favorites.
Yay! A new one to watch! Thank you, Bill!
Love the series man keep up the great work so fascinating and informative 💯🙏🏻
Always look forward to these videos. Thanks again.
MY FAVORITE ONE! THANKS FOR COVERING IT!
I have been waiting like patience on a monument for this video!
AWESOME!!!!!
I just discovered this channel like a month or two ago and have been so excited for this upload!!!!!!! One of my favourite films of all time!!!!!! Keep up the awesome work dude!!!
YES!! Ive been waiting for this one for so long
As much as I loved Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla and Spectreman, I never in a billion years guessed there was a connection between the two. This definitely ranks as one of my favorite Godzilla movies, and I love your behind the scenes work. Great job and keep up the great work.
Always the best Godzilla fact man online! And always a great job man!!!
It’s here! Been waiting for this one since I found your channel and binged every episode, thus far.
Yes, been waiting for this, my favourite Godzilla film of all time.
My man I have been waiting for this review for along time I'm beyond happy right now
Had just watched this one last week, great to have a new documentary while the film is also still fresh in my mind. Thank you for what you di!
great video once again, loved the anecdotes
I've been waiting for this movie review. It is my one of my favorite Godzilla movies!
Great review. I'm loving this series! Also wanted to concur that Shin Ultraman was ridiculous, and I loved every second of it!!
Been waiting for this!!
Nice! Been waiting for this one!❤️❤️
I've been waiting for this 😭
I've been waiting for this one!!!
Oh man! I've been hella sick all weekend. I woke up to this, made my day!
Had just been on a bunge of these and a new one comes out. Excellent
Y E S- the best showa film in my opinion, the music and the fights are just- top teir-
God I really needed this video right now, thank you bill.
Aw yeah, Bill. I was waiting for this.
Love this videos so much. I just watched this one last week! 8/10 fricheks
The SpongeBob thing at the 9min mark really got me. Thanks for all the work with these videos! Gonna buy that Book next.
Another great video. One of my favorite Godzilla movies as a kid too. Godzilla as Magneto blew my mind
Always good to see more of brill Bill. Easily the best monster video guy on youtube and that's despite the others not even being bad
Bull I’ve been waiting for this for so long I’m so happy you posted today. Got to see M3GAN and your amazing content all in one day!
When I was a kid and used to watch this movie all the time, I always thought that the mountain that king Ceasars is sleeping in during the awakening song looks just like godzillas head, with King Ceasar being placed as his eyeball. I always used to think that was deliberate, signifying that when he was summoned, it would be to fight alongside godzilla. Would love to know if that was intentional or just a coincidence.
New big action bill, time to like and comment to support!
One of best 70s godzilla movies, with the sequel, and godzilla vs smog Monster
One more video, and we will come full circle. It's gonna be an end of an era, but I just know I'll rewatch these videos again in a few years.
Long time coming
I would argue this might be Jun Fukuda’s best Godzilla film. Certainly my favorite. I know he didn’t hold his time in the Godzilla franchise in much high regard, but the film looks and feels like he had a lot of fun with it.
I always loved the English dub in this film too, especially for the Simian leader. The voice actor they chose to dub him really did a great job retaining the arrogant attitude of the character
Best channel! Greetings from Poland!
Loved this one! When I opened the Criterion collection, I fell in love with this films artwork. Easily my favorite of the bunch. Showa MG has always been my favorite. I loved it when he was just evil and pointy and violent. MG2 and Kiryu didn't have though, though Kiryu was really well developed.
Looking forward to your review of ToMG! It's been in my Top 3 Showa films for a long time despite all its flaws!
I literally watch your godzilla history videos on loop. Was great when I was in emt school
50th anniversary of Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla so cool I can’t believe it
Perfect timing I just made my friends watch this movie. Good shit as always bill I can't wait for terror of mechagodzilla as it's my favorite showa film and I feel it gets more flak than it deserves.
Oh man... A Dirty Work reference?!?!?! Almost got Big Action Bill Bingo!!!? 😂😂 Love the videos man!
Absolute BANGER of a sound track. Have this on VHS and still throw it in the machine every other month.
I absolutely love this movie! It's Fukuda's best in the series. Like you, I get a kick out of "The Maiden's Prayer" segment, often getting out of my seat and dancing to the song.
Hi there Big Action Bill. Fantastic video on what I think is the best of the 1970 Godzilla films, next to Terror of Mechagodzilla.
I've been doing my own fanfic of this film and made some changes to the story. I feel like there were too many protagonists to follow even though they are likable and human story is decent. I also improved King Shisa's origins, add more detail on how he was created. I also had Anguirus fight along side Godzilla and King Shisa in the final battle against Mechagodzilla. I also cut out the part where the aliens needed an earth scientist to help them fix Mechagodzilla. When we first see Mechagodzilla, he does not fly out of the ground in a rock, but surfaces from a volcano. He is also no disguised as the real Godzilla. That made no sense to me.
Instead of Godzilla using magnetic powers, King Shisa is the one with a hidden power. He has the power to heal Godzilla and bring Anguirus back to life after Mechagodzilla kills him. In my story, the Planet 3 aliens are not only conquering the planet for themselves but they are also planet brokers, planning of selling parts of the Earth to other alone races. This was something in the early drafts of the film and I thought that was a neat idea.
In the end, King Shisa is the one to rip Mechagodzilla's head by karate kicking it into the sea, while Godzilla blows up the rets of its body.
These videos are totally great
The first time I catch one of your videos on time. King Caesar style of fighting and reflecting bean were really cool, he is one of my favorites Kaijus too
THIS IS MY 3-5 TIME WATCHING THIS EPISODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Never gets old
Great work on these as always Bill! As a child I always thought this film came before Gigan and that was the reason Nami had the vision of Ghidorah lol. One of the reasons I interpreted it that way was because the vhs covers were similar and the tapes were both released by starmaker. The ape aliens freaked me out as a child too, I hated them but thought it was hilarious when the assassin one screamed when he was shot off the cruise ship lol
Yeah well those giant cockroach alien things from Godzilla versus Gigan yeah I got pretty much nightmares from them I couldn't figure out how to go to sleep now oh yeah and I hate cockroaches
@@Godzillaraier208 Lol yeah I remember getting creepy vibes from them as a child too
@@ShinGoji1987Official yeah that's why I'm scared and yes I hate cockroaches human-sized cockroaches nope I am out of there I am not going to deal with that cuz I don't like cockroaches cuz they're disgusting
I can't wait for the monsterverse history vids.
Keep up the good work stay safe god bless.
Love this series ! 🦎
Saw this in cinemas as Godzilla vs The Bionic Monster and loved it. One of the best Showa era films!
This movie along with Terror of Mechagodzilla hold a special place in my heart. Terror was one of the first Godzilla movies I ever saw and Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla is the mechagodzilla movie that I rewatched the most as a kid. Both movies definitely make my top 10 favorite Godzilla movies list.
Wow....your channel is one of the only ones to mention the cosmic monster.
Bill! Back at it!
Wake up babe, a new Big Action Bill "History of Godzilla" video dropped
One of my favorite Godzilla movies and my favorite version of MechaGodzilla. The 1974 version is and always will be my all time favorite, mostly just the way they made it look was by far the coolest and the music they used for his themes.
Love these videos it brings me so much happiness to have someone who covers my favorite fictional character even before I could walk I was watching Godzilla 😂
YES NEW VIDEO!
The reason why Nami sang the whole song in the movie was because the actress, Bellbella Lin, was actualy a singer. During 70s, Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng caused a phenomenon in Japan, so TOHO signed Bellbella Lin, wishing she would be as famous as Teresa.
Great video Bill! Showa Mechagodzilla is my favorite incarnation of the character as it's the version I grew up with as I didn't get to watch the Heisei version until my early teens.
We always thought her song was about ‘pizza’ and not… ‘shisa’
We loved that in our minds king caesar was awoken by pizza…
I would love to go to 🇯🇵 and visit ToHo studios. Because,Godzilla is my favorite movie monster.
I've never understood G's entrance in this one. Was he just napping in a warehouse?
Ahh yes not only my favorite showa film besides the original 54 film, not only one of my favorite godzilla films but just also one of my favorite films of all time
I have been waiting for this one. Surprisingly bloody and violent, but a good story with the human characters and villains.
These were great fights and I loved the concept of different groups trying to take care of Mecha Godzilla. King Ceaser awakening was an epic moment.
Godzilla being beaten bloody and dropped in the ocean was shocking.
This movie would have been a great ending for the Shows era, but the sequel was good.
Comparing Showa Godzilla to Vegeta is strangely apt, as both characters start out as destructive villains who become increasingly anti-heroic before switching sides completely. But who whould Godzilla's "Goku be? Mothra?
I love your history of godzilla videos can't wait for you to make more and also when you do the monsterverse movies I should also mention that the monsterverse comic books are also Canon to the movies just to let you know anyway keep up the good work 👍
I would love it if the new Toho Godzilla movies pick up in the Showa series.
Every once in a while I will hum the music when MechaG reveals itself to Godzilla. This my favorite G movie of all time. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
It’s Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 50th anniversary today.
I am loving this docu series you got goin on here man. You have done an awsome job.Long time big G fan. Grew up in the 90s. Any plans for one on shin godzilla one?
