  • Figo Preto is a medium-sized fig usually with a chewy skin, a delicious fig with a medium berry flavor and sweet. A mid-season fig for us.

    I ordered a Figo Preto from you in Feb. 2024 and received it. I did a cleft graft onto my Brown Turkey and it has broken bud and put out a few leaves. Thank you so much. Your cuttings are so amazing.

    I started a figo preto cutting and April. It's in a pot it's 4' tall with figs on both branches all the way up. That will ripen for me sometime at the end of September beginning of October. Very productive. Never had one.

    Hi just found this after asking about it on your figo preto video. Very interesting! I have this Portuguese variety thinking I was getting the California variety. I can see from the leaves that this is different from the other. I live in Northern California, figs do really well here even without any care. I became curious why all the others dropped their leaves in winter while mine does not. I now know that this is a hardy fig. Thanks!

    Hi Harvey does it produce a breba crop? With regards to productivity how you compare it to other varieties? And lastly do you recommend grafting it on a vigorous variety for better results? Thanks :)

      This, like Violeta and Black Madeira, don't not make breba. I now have a Figo Preto grafted onto vigorous rootstock for the reasons you mention.

    Looks great. I just won one of figbid. What area are you in? I'm in zone 8a and want to grow it in ground. Hopefully it does well

    Do you know how these are different from figo preto de torres novas?

    • @Figaholics
      @Figaholics  3 роки тому

      Yes, they are quite different, more of an oblate shape and darker pulp than Figo Preto de Torres Novas, a variety that we also grow here. As you may realize, "figo preto" simply means "black fig."

      @@Figaholics Thanks. How about in terms of flavor? It's confusing since the one from Portugal seems to be all there rage too.
