    Kenan and Kel accidentally bench Ron Harper of the Chicago Bulls. Just for fun, we see how Harper slipping in some orange soda might have affected the Bull's 1996/1997 season!

    Ah, you gotta love it when a sitcom does an episode with a “famous” celebrity and most of the audience has no idea who that person is. At least Ron Harper is more well known than somebody like Misty Mae-Treanor when she did her Wizards of Waverly Place episode.
    And yeah, they likely wanted a bigger name, but that was a fun hypothetical & a neat way to try and see how the Bulls would’ve faired had Kerr been forced to start.

    I don't think it's a surprise that professional wrestlers seem to have the best track record when it comes to acting career transitions, since that's as much a performance art as it is a sport. Once you can do the "soap opera with piledrivers" bit, you can probably at least handle an action role here and there, and it probably helps to switch to something slightly less taxing on the body.

      I'm a bisexual who went to basketball camp for several summers in a row, and even I'll admit that my knowledge on the 90s-era Chicago Bulls largely extends to the big guys like Jordan & Rodman

    • @chelmrtz
      @chelmrtz 8 місяців тому

      @@samrtnr97 I, your friendly neighborhood enby, grew up with the 90s Bulls teams dominating ESPN and I really could only remember Jordan, Rodman, Pippen, and Kerr, who is most fresh in my mind as the Warriors coach for the mid 2010s championship runs (and last year’s title). So it was nice to see my hometown coach get a nod from Greg here.

    While I'm not normally a fan of kids/tweens/family sitcoms on cable, I'd say the cast really elevates the material, especially the two stars of the series. Even today, I find Kenan to be the SNL MVP. They don't have "What's up with That?" on the show nearly as much as they should. I got to give the Good Burger movies a watch at some point.

    • @bullmonty764
      @bullmonty764 8 місяців тому +1

      At this point Kenan is literally the only SNL cast member that Gen-Z grew up with - basically people like the Lonely Island, Kristen Wiig, Fred Armesien, et al - who is still on the show today. Hell, even Pete Davidson is gone and outside of Kenan, literally *everyone* else in the cast is a rando to me. Doesn't look good on them at all

    • @mightyfilm
      @mightyfilm 8 місяців тому

      @@bullmonty764 The cast of that show has always been a revolving door. Not everyone can have a long tenure like Kenan has or even Bobby Moynihan had up until a few seasons ago. Kenan has been a sketch comedy regular since he was a kid, after all. That's a LOT of experience, and no wonder he's such a consummate professional.

    I was a big Bulls fan as a kid. I stuck with the team during Michael Jordan's first retirement, I remember his comeback year loss in the playoffs to the Pacers where Jordan kicked Reggie Miller, then ditched 45 to unretire 23 the next season and Jordan was extremely emotional upon winning the championship. I remember Pippen, Rodman, Horace Grant, Toni Kukoc who played for Croatia instead of the US for the Olympics, and Steve Kerr. And yet I have zero memory of Rob Harper.

    I don't remember watching this episode, but it appears to be the Kenan & Kel equivalent of the "Quest for Kendall's Autograph" episode of My Brother and Me, where Kendall Gill guest-starred. Gill had played for the Charlotte Hornets in 2 different stints, but the episode taped and aired in between those two stints. In his time in Charlotte, he was likely a little higher on the notability list on the team than Ron Harper was on the Bulls (I guess Gill would have been 4th or 5th on that list, depending on where you put Dell Curry).

    As a heterosexual, I genuinely forget Ron Harper was on that Bulls team. He was a good player, especially early in his career with the Cavs and Clippers, but yeah, he was mostly a journeyman role player at that point, so you're analysis of how critical he would've been on the team is probably somewhat accurate.

    As a basketball fan in the 90s I always found it weird/funny how big a deal a Ron Harper injury was within the universe- being front page news and all that. Don't get me wrong, he was good in his prime, but by the time he was with the Bulls he was a role player- that was well past his prime.
    Don't get me wrong- they wouldn't have WANTED to lose him, but he really wasn't even one of the 5 most important players on the team, even including defense. Bare minimum Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Kukoc, Longley were all more important. Maybe Kerr too.

    I mean to be fair the Chicago Bulls insane in the 90s guarantee 40% of the US population at least heard of Ron Harper but yeah I like your analogy Ron Harper would stink to lose but the 90s Bulls more than had the depth to make up for Harper being out and yeah, Harper probably was the biggest player they could get for this role because there’s no way Jordan Pippin or Rodman would do it. He was probably the most recognizable Bull Aside from the big three
