I don't think reliability is an issue with this car. You probably just got unlucky. In my country the v40 has sold like hotcakes since its release, so there are tons of people driving them both private and as a company car. They have a reputation for being reliable cars.

You say in the video that the V40 has some reliability issues. But in Germany, according to the German road assistance company called Tüv, the Volvo V40 is best in its class as far as build quality and reliability is concerned.

WinkelHoof Go and look in forums of others car makers. You'll find much more and severe problems with other car makers.
Moreover, in forums you'll only hear from people who had problems. You don't hear about the positive experiences.

You don't know much about cars... do you?
    1. There is NO keyless start. If you press the Start button "position 2" comes, lights and all the others, but you cannot start engine. IF you start the car and take the key out... yes you can stil drive.
    2. This car is not noisy. I drive 150-160 km/h and I can hear if you wisper in the back seats.

The things you don't like is parts that you have to get used to with all diffrent cars. If you've owned a xc90 and trade it for a v40, you can't expect it to be exactly the same. Your review went bad at the beginning , the first thing you hate about it is becouse it's a diesel? Get a gasoline one then. I'd personal would't want a keyless lock, for saftey. If it's something wrong with the parts (like the spring), change it instead of complaining about it. And yes the door sounds when you have music on, and I'll tell you a secret, the speakers are inside the door. Ssh.

I think you should change your rental company !! it is clear this car has not been serviced and maintained correctly !! but this isn't untypical on a rental car !! I think to raise these issues on a brand of car isn't quite right Kris, best get a car from a volvo dealership direct before posting a video on the car ! these cars are mistreated by everyone who hires them, hence you having to change one V40 for another, yet the second car has issues as well !! The V40 was voted the most reliable compact car 2017, JD power survey, so your experience of two V40s isn't typical of the ownership experience of many thousands of customers !!

  • @basiljacobs4126

What a poor review. I own a 2016 V40 T5 Inspiron to which I have added a Polestar cat back exhaust system and a Polestar Optimisation upgrade.
I have none of the complaints you mentioned and after 30,000km it is still a great cat to drive.
The motor is a bit noisy but the exhaust sorts out that problem. The 8 Speed Auto transmission is great and smooth but a tad slow in the Sport or manual mode.
The dealers service has been great and the ownership rewarding. Well done Volvo!

So.. This ain't 5 things wrong with the v40, it's 5 thing you personally dislike.. The diesel and automatic is all things you can get around, the key, don't see the problem.. The viper arm, I mean come on, you do that mistake 2 times and then remember that it's that way. Last, is a rattle sound on that specific car?? Honda wipers are the same as this Volvo, I get so confused with the wipers every time I get into my mum's car and try to do a single wipe and end up putting the wipers on full speed.
The XC40 also has remote entry but keyless start unless you spec it as an option. I've ordered an XC40 and I actually like that it doesn't have keyless entry. Most of the time I use the remote window closing/opening so keyless entry/locking is a useless feature for me when I'd already have the key in my hand opening the windows walking up to the car, or closing them walking away.

I do ave some concerns, i haven't yet set my mind if i stuck gold or bronze with this aquisition. Consumption it sais 7.2L/ 100km..but lost 2 lines in few days, few trips, this makes no sense.. Cant say i love the automatic transmission, how it speeds up.. it keeps at 2500-ish rpm.. it does have sport mode (like normal drive + sport drive), it does allow manual gear change (+/- with S mark.. but never tried it)

Everyone’s entitled to there opinion but personally I hate automatics but if you wanted a car with faster shifting by a car with a DSG and diesels have always been noisier then petrols and the v40 is voted probably most reliable and yes you might of just had bad luck but it’s not common for them to have problems but just like any used car you don’t know who’s drove it before you so regardless it’s a pointless argument but I do agree on the keyless entry

  • @ptg_st3v3oh62

Keyless entry is actually a terrible safety flaw - thieves have absolutely no problems in extending your keys signal to unlock, start and drive away the car when you're already gone. Seems like a badly researched complaint.

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  6 років тому

I just now read a report by the police in germany that strongly advises against "keyless-go" systems in any cars as a "premium priced" car was stolen last night.
Speaking of this - the aston martin dealer in cologne gives customers free boxes which stop the signal from travelling outside the box when the key is not needed.
Police also advised to store the keys "as far as possible" away from the actual car.

It can be activated by light impacts with small animals (happened with my wife). If it happens, the car stops abruptly and inflates the airbag. BUT! after just one year old I had a clutch burn out. It took Volvo 4 weeks to repair it under warranty. Despite the fact that they already had the replacement clutch sitting in their workshop.

Well, this was lame. You start by saying the engine is too loud and the transmission sucks, and then you say the car is mostly pleasant to drive. Jesus. And the wiper and keyless rants are just silly, not sure what's the problem there. Anyway, I test drove an automatic petrol T3 and the engine was quiet and the transmission smooth enough.

Most uncomfortable car I've ever driven - gave me hideous hip and lower back pain. Just couldn't get it to fit. I'm 5'9" male, so you'd think I'd fit in this car. 840s, s40 great cars...drove my S40 from Czechia to Brighton - bout 13 hours...only needed to stretch my legs at end. This one kills me after 20 mins. Ford Volvos I had no issues with. Geely ones; no thanks.

The rental company your getting your cars from are the issue they are not doing the upkeep of the car,
when people rent cars they do not look after them like there own, so they get more abuse,
As for the automatic diesel I would keep away from an auto box diesel get the manual diesel,
its not reliability your issues your mentioning its due care from passed owners who had not kept the up keep on parts that may be failing through age or abuse, they are heavy doors and people think you have to slam them to shut,

Own a v40 1.6 d2 r design. My issues afterx5 years of ownership.... door locks, both driver side and passenger side, one day wouldnt open, (over seperate periods of time) known issue, volvo dealer fixed (at cost to me). The boot, way too small. Like if you had young kids/ pram, forget it. Its nowhere near as big as golf etc. turning circle, jesus, this is a general volvo issue, however jupiters orbit of the sun, is a smaller ciircumference than a v40 on full lock. Fact, end of. Only other issue is r design (not cross country or other models) no spare wheel. Instead a tub of cream glue and a ciggy lighter pump. So 2am on a motorway, split tyre, youre screwed. End of. So i bought a complete space saver/ inc jack etc and this is in the boot, which isnt designed for a spare wheel.... so a bit shit really.

My god! What a load of bollocks! All are just “getting used to”. Volvo stops the diesel project so why whine about a deal breaker diesel… mine is the 2014 1.6 petrol T2 with a manual, and it’s a joy to drive. The reliability is also a relative term. Vibrating exhausts and a rim that’s damaged because of neglecting people that rent a car has nothing to do with reliability… complete useless video!

I have a 2015 Volvo V40 and It´s a noisy car. For a 35000 euro car it could/should be better built. It's incomprehensible in 3 years this car having lot of built issues. Door panels, loose and with annoying rattle sounds. Real bad quality floor carpet. Bad quality plastics in door panels. They scratch easily particularly rear door due not open wide. Volvo brag about how secure they built their cars but isn't visibility part of security? So! I wounder where Volvo buys windscreen shield. With 3 years I need to replace my windscreen shield because is so scratchy all I can see is a blur/foggy image through it. In between trivial things what bothers me more about Volvos premium built quality is... Not so premium suspension noise, not so premium road noise... In conclusion. Big premium disappointing.

I recently got a 2016 D4 60k miles, a terribly bad car. Leaking rocker cover gasket, leaking crank seal, clutch needed replacing. It's quite slow as well, there is no way it's 190bhp, for example I had a 2012 C30 D3, 5 cylinder and that was a good car, these newer ones are sh**, Volvo should be ashamed. In fact the only thing worst than this car is having to deal with Volvo service. It must be the chinese owners, fake eggs and now a car brand not even in the same league as what it used to be. Avoid like the plague.
