    Mine is exactly as shown with the woodish grips and medallion. I researched the serial number and mine was made in 1925. My grandfather bought it from a Detroit cop in 1930. Solid little piece.

    the magazine was two tone at the top to harden the lips of the mag

    It is a shame there was no better way to remove the rust on the slide. I love mine.

    Great gun, the grip safety allows it to be carried with the safety off.

    The magazine upper section is Heat treated to help make the feed lips stronger. My original 1903 hammerless mag is colored the same.

      I think I read that they dipped the feed lips in some kind of chemical mixture that hardened them.

      I’m not a metallurgist but dipping steel in a chemical normally will not harden it.
