very enjoyable watch, thank you for posting. A word of thanks for the review of the Gaugemaster Combi Controller, I was impressed by the slow running and slow pull away. So I bought one and wow! amazing control slow running without jitters and slow pull-aways are amazing. Even smokey joe performs as if DCC controlled. Brilliant, thanks again.
The class 37 will always be my favourite train, we usually get 2 DRS 37's hauling nuke flasks running through Chester going into wales, love the sound at about quart past 6 in the morning when they open the growler up and get her up to speed heading towards flint.
I saw Dub Dee at the Severn Valley Railway Spring Steam Gala earlier this year, and she was quite the powerhouse! A little sluggish on that line, but does the job very well. I was more impressed by the Coal Tank, considering how much of a fine condition she's in for her age.
Wonderful video of the KWVR Will. I always enjoy myself when I'm up there. The steam loco in the video is actually a WD 2-8-0. The KWVR do have an 8F though. Cameron
I dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost the login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Ricky Zaire i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
You're not half wrong about the soot danger. My friend John & I went to the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways last year while we were on a Study Abroad in Chester (The rest of the students went to tour Conwy & Caernarfon Castles. I like to joke that while they were touring those castles, we were riding the little trains through God's castle). Both times we ended up in the open-sided coaches at the very rear of the train, which were very nice for getting the breeze & getting great shots of the scenery & the train. The problem started on the WHR to Caernarfon. Not long after we started, a bit of soot flew into my eye & it hurt like hell. I tried to wipe it out with my handkerchief (Pro tip: Always have a proper cotton hanky/repurposed hand towel in your pocket), but it was no good. I wanted to buy some water from the concession lady so I could damp it down & try to wipe the soot out that way, but she only came once at the start & then never again (I must admit, I was not impressed with the WHR's service). Finally, I had to go up the train in search of some water. I finally found a nice lady who was willing to give me a splash of her water (she had, like, 5 water bottles in her bag. Don't know why she'd have so many). After that, I was able to get the soot out of my eye & enjoy the rest of the journey.
I'm so annoyed I live so close to this railway (up the road from Haworth station), I wish I could have met you, my mum even had a hair salon on the same street as the model shop. i also have seen that beautiful class 37 in the flesh. It is weird to see somewhere I know very well on your video. Thanks for the nice videos
Another great video, Will. You waxed quite lyrical about the 8F (or WD Austerity as someone has commented) but I agree that, although the diesels sound great, they don't quite have the magic of the steam locos. I also agree that a camcorder gives better footage than a smart phone or tablet and are much easier to handle than a tablet!!.
Lovely video of a lovely line, went there in January. The snow just went so well with the gloss black of their 4F that day. Just wondering, would you ever consider coming to the Ribble Steam Railway in Preston, Lancashire? I volunteer there, we're only a small 1 1/2 mile line but we have some very interesting industrial stock as we are an old dock line. DP1 is also here with guided cab tours on Sundays until October. I'd love it if you'd come down one day, possibly for DP1's 60th as we're just running EVERYTHING that can bloody move on that day. So would you ever consider it? Once again, lovely video!
I cannot describe how jealous of you Brits I am. Because I live in the US, I don't get beautiful locomotives such as the 8F or Class 37 featured in this video. I just get rather ugly looking diesel engines that are comparable to Daleks when it comes to design.
Very nice, love my steam engines glad you had plenty of footage of the WD Austerity, I know how you feel about people in your way, I had the same problem when photographing the LNER D49 at the North Norfolk Railway. IC82 do you not like your wheel spin?? I love it when you see A4's doing it as A4s sound and look really powerful...
I actually went on this railway in 2003 when I went on a trip to England with my Mum and two of my brothers. We went up to Howarth to see the bronte sisters house and came upon the railway by accident. We took it from Howearth to Keighley and back to Howarth
90733 is Austerity Loco built by The Vulcan Foundry for the War Department back in World War 2, it spent the latter part of its working career in Poland up until 1977 where it was moved back to the UK for preservation... Just thought id add this in as a guide :)
Again just to clear up the misunderstanding between Stanier 8F and WD 2-8-0. 90733 is of the latter class which were based mechanically on the 8F but modified for shorter working lives given the constraints of materials availability during the war. Designed by R.A. Riddles and built in 1943 (852 x Stanier 8F built 1935-46). Many were distributed far and wide e.g. Europe, North Africa and Hong Kong. Of the 935 built, 733 came into BR in 1948 were numbered 90000-732 in BR use, there was no 90733. The reason this loco is numbered as such is because having found its way to Holland in WW2 it was sold on to Swedish State Railways in 1953. It was repatriated to the UK in 1973 by the KWVR, who appropriately numbered her "next in series" as is the case with Tornado.
Hope you come to one of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway's Gala's, Cotswold Festival Of Steam (May 23rd-25th, got 2 Bullieds! Hopefully 36005 (P&O) will be steaming by then! *fingers crossed* also there's the main Diesel Gala in July, with D7076 (Series 2 'Hymek'). :-) P.M me on twitter if you need any info etc. Now work in the diesel dept. So can always find out if I don't know :-)
Been in the Big Boy cab at the State Fair Park train museum in Dallas Texas many years ago. It now resides at the Frisco Train Museum in Frisco Texas. And yes it is huge!!
I am also a volunteer on the kwvr in the carriage and wagon department so if your every back then let me know. By the way Oxenhope it's at the top of the line not the bottom. In response to and earlier comment, there is only one coal tank left.
Hi will I was on a train trip around England and I when to a miniature railway and children from up north I think were shouting all the way saying stuff like "look real track ""it a steam train!!!!" I make the journey so long and was make it a bad time there
The engine is austerity not stanier the stanier 8f is very different in size wieght and had steam heat fitted the austerity's didn't and only had a top speed of 55 compared to 80 from stanier hope that helps
8:56 you want people in your way of the camera, trying being at the streamliners at Spencer event a year ago in North Carolina, the amount of inconsiderate people were outrageous, but at least there were lots of people there to see those beauties of the 50's
@ 7:55 RONG !! Locomotive identification fail !! This comment is RIDDLED with error , this is the W.D. Austerity repatriated from abroad , designed by a contemporary of Stanier , R.A. Riddles but not the great man himself !
This is the sort of thing that confuses me with you. You say about how much you love the Stanier 8F's, but you failed to notice the locomotive you're looking at isn't one. You even said "That's not a Stanier tender" and it still didn't click.
The steamy is not described as an 8F. It was not designed by William Stanier. The engine is a War Department 2-8-0, and my kind of engine to get dirty with. I have a pair of goggles to wear, so I'm a lucky one. How on earth can you love that ugly and stinky box-on-wheels? It chokes me to death. Its fumes choked you, so you can't love it in the same way as we love steam engines. Diesels sometimes break down and never move again, unless a shunter can tow the unreliable machine back on shed. When a steam engine breaks down, it will move to gentle coaxing from the Driver. Unreliable diesels are for non-believers. Electrics have got it all wrong. Steam engines, which are far more reliable, have the power that will pull us along. Diesel fumes are horrid and pollute our clean atmosphere. Smoke, steam and soot are kinder to us. You should have stuck with the steam engine all day long. That unreliable diesel should be on the scrap heap, if you want my opinion. Stick with steam engines. You'll enjoy it a whole lot more, believe me. Happy train riding.
Absolutely wonderful.
Love the video, thanks for the mention had a great day, good to meet you too!
Wow. Looks like you had a fantastic day out. Some lovey shots of both locomotives. Great video.
Great video. I really enjoyed seeing such a nice railway.
Absolutely superb video showcasing Northern Rail, thanks for uploading Will :)
Amazing video mate. I have been to the KWVR before and it was fantastic.
Hey will! The steam locomotive is a riddles WD austerity 8F and that 37 is gorgeous! Keep up the great work. Isaac.

I would love if you could come done to the watercress line for the autumn gala this year and I would be more than happy to show you around.
Great vid will can't wait to see your new model railway
I love it! You must come down to the the Epping Ongar some time - it's so much fun! Last weekend was their diesel gala but next weekend it's steam!
Great video will looks like you had a great time it's a great line to ride on
The class 37 will always be my favourite train, we usually get 2 DRS 37's hauling nuke flasks running through Chester going into wales, love the sound at about quart past 6 in the morning when they open the growler up and get her up to speed heading towards flint.

Great job I love these on tour videos because I'm in the usa so I can't see these irl and these vids let me look at those great lines
I hope you enjoyed it there it's really nice when it's not bad weather and I work there myself and sometimes people are very nice it really depends
I never knew you'd visit the KWVR! I live right by it!
A great video Will lovely class 37. A bit odd though. One end split head code and the other a 37/4 style
Wonderful video of the KWVR Will. I always enjoy myself when I'm up there. The steam loco in the video is actually a WD 2-8-0. The KWVR do have an 8F though. Cameron
Great stuff, this is my local railway as I'm from Yorkshire. Been going to that line for many years now as its always nice to go there.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account..?
I was dumb lost the login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Kameron Gatlin Instablaster :)
@Ricky Zaire i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process now.

@Ricky Zaire it worked and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out !

The loco of many names. WD, Dub Dee, Austerity, the list goes on!!!!!!
You should try the kent & East Sussex railway it's amazing

Try the North Norfolk Railway. It's a lovely line with great scenery and some brilliant locos.
My second favourite Railway of all time.
Another great video, Will. The Lancashire and Yorkshire loco use to work on my local Isle Of Axholme Joint Railway (Long gone now) its a L&Y Class 25
"Probably a Yorkshire-thing" YEP! :-)
Did you notice that the 37 only had split headcode boxes at one end?
Really did enjoy It had a good day too..
Joe
Went there, it's so nice.
The 8F's whistle reminds me of our Norfolk and Western Hooter whistle which is pretty famous over here.
***** what class of locomotive is it?
A WD Austerity 2-8-0 (War Department)
Will Horowitz Oh cool.

Try the south devon railway, its a 7 mile long railway, known for their panniers, also has a great model shop and musem.
I cannot describe how jealous of you Brits I am.

just to point out WD Austerity is power 8F but proper yorkshire name is DUBDEE
True most of the time, but the Union Pacific big boy!!! Absolutely massive and beautiful... In an industrial kind of way.
Very nice, love my steam engines glad you had plenty of footage of the WD Austerity, I know how you feel about people in your way, I had the same problem when photographing the LNER D49 at the North Norfolk Railway. IC82 do you not like your wheel spin?? I love it when you see A4's doing it as A4s sound and look really powerful...
i actually visited the keighley and worthvalley railway when i was visiting the uk in 2017
That WD 2-8-0 has quite a voice!
I actually went on this railway in 2003 when I went on a trip to England with my Mum and two of my brothers. We went up to Howarth to see the bronte sisters house and came upon the railway by accident. We took it from Howearth to Keighley and back to Howarth
the Bronte sisters went to my high school :)

BTW The steam loco wasn't an 8F. It was a WD austerity 2-8-0 90733
7:50 the 8f WD where designed by Robert Riddles, not bij Stanier
