By default an arrow on an air filter points in the direction of air flow. Most brands will say "air flow" next to the arrow. If it doesn't say "air flow" then the arrow should still point in the direction of air flow even if any words or numbers on the filter are upside down. All horizontally mounted cabin air filters with the blower motor mounted below the filter will have downward air flow direction. The ONLY time the arrow should point up is when it says "UP" next to the arrow as in the case of the OEM Toyota cabin filter. In that case the arrow is not indicating air flow direction but merely means "This Side Up".
