At the time, a lot of rival fans used to get annoyed at this. But in top level sport, you have to shake out every last drop of anything to gain an advantage. Especially in teams who aren't blessed with big budgets

Great weapon to have for any team. Any throw in from 40 yards or more away from the box is still like a corner. And any throw in from you own half can be used to have striker standing in opponent half. (Throw ins can’t be offside).
