I think having it centered would look best and really show off that masterpiece of a cabinet. They do make very slim baskets that you could use on the side if need be. It’s gonna look so beautiful once finished. Love that green!

I recommend adding a transom window over the separation wall. You can buy a piece of glass, stained glass, or reclaimed transom window to add light in the vanity area. I did this with an interior windowless room and it made all of the difference to that bedroom!

Also- with the dark countertop and the white sinks.... I think you should use the hex white/black penny tile. It's genuinely such a cute design, and you should trust your instincts!

Personally I think it would look best centered. You could put very narrow trash cans or baskets for extra storage at the ends. Also, it might be a little difficult to open the cabinet door if you butt it up against the wall. Just my thoughts. It's looking good. ❤️

I think the faucets and spout should be the color of the drawer pulls. Black will look weird with the delicate dresser. Place the sink unit centered from each wall.

I LOVE your approach to this project. Optimizing spaces in small homes is totally my jam. You really can't get a more efficient main bathroom layout than what you're doing with the 2 sink vanity with a separate toilet/tub situation. It's what we did in our small house reno a few years ago - works great! God bless you and keep you, Knorpps!

As someone who is extremely organized and lives in a tiny space (full-time RVers), breaking up any remaining space is a waste. If you place the vanity against the left wall, that should leave plenty of space on the right to put a slender cabinet, decor, or even shelves. A compact design (against the end wall) in an already small space is ideal. Looking the best and most functional are two different things for consideration. Centering in that small area is not thinking outside the box. Just my humble opinion!! Very excited for you all, and BRAVO for taking on this project yourselves! P.S. I most definitely agree with others about a window(s) for letting in natural light. Otherwise the overall feeling will be cave-like.

Perhaps many have said it, but all of your woods don’t have to match, unless perhaps you enjoy it that way! Quite from Louis Interiors, “You don't have to match all the wood furniture in a room. In fact, your design may actually look much better if you throw away this old rule and go with pieces you love in the finishes you love. White and black walls and décor are often used to complement each other. No one would say you can't use them together.” GOD BLESS ALL YOUR HARD WORK GUYS!!!!

Re vanity placement, if you install it to one side, Mike can add a shelf or two between the vanity and wall. I know hotels that don't have a vanity or very small space around the sink make doing hair and makeup very difficult. There's no such thing as too much space to use while getting ready.

I would slide the vaniety flush with the new wall side and do a floor to ceiling open shelving on the side nearest the original door opening. Can then use these cubbyholes for towels; small baskets to hide frequently used stuff, etc. I think people will not be so inclined to open lower dresser drawers to access toothbrushes. etc.

Regarding the vanity....if you place it further down toward the newly built wall, that gets the vanity away from the outer door. The person using the sink near the outer door would almost be in the hall otherwise. Pushing it all the way down would perhaps allow for a small storage cabinet or a shelving niche in the wall towards the hallway. It would also look centered if a cabinet was built. Love your pretty vanity! Working on a remodel as well in our life.

They just bought all the new fancy trendy things and now of course it's beautiful. Thank you for sharing the process

I also like the vanity centered. BUT...I'm wondering if it would function better all the way to the right? I lived in a one-bathroom house that had a double sink vanity with about 3 ft between the sinks. The mirror ran the whole length of the vanity making it easy for 3 of us girls to get ready in the mornings. We rarely used the sink that was closest to the door because you would be in the way of someone coming in or going out. One way to test the best spot for functionality in your bathroom, would be to have the kids pretend to go through their morning bathroom routines with the vanity at each of the different positions. It might not make a difference for your family, but it might be worth taking the time to test it.

  • @jeteaze
    @jeteaze Рік тому +1

Idk. I think you should look at this as a temporary cabinet. Down the line you’ll realize there isn’t room for the storage you need because the pipes will be taking up most of the cabinet space. You need storage for q tips, cotton balls, toothbrushes, floss packets, hair brushes and combs, hair gel, rubber bands and pins, bandaids, hairdryer, skin care, face wash, makeup remover, medicines, body lotion, face lotion, mouthwash, ibuprofen, antiseptics, neosporen, sunscreen, contact lenses, eye drops, shaving cream, razor, tweezers, nail clippers etc. You don’t want that sitting on shelves. It will look very messy. And what would be the point of renovating if things didn’t look nice and it’s not functional?
You’ll also want room for basic cleaning supplies as well. If you want the sink to not be messy with toothpaste and lotions, then you’ll need wipes or extra towels in the sink room to wipe up the sink. It wouldn’t be practical to keep them stored in the shower room storage area. You’ll need space somewhere in the sink room to put a tissue box as well. And you need separate towels to dry your face on after you wash it.
You renovated the bathroom in the first place because you wanted it to be more functional and have a separate room for the toilet and shower. You need the sink room to be functional as well, and also not look like a mess with about 20 different things on shelves.

Once you have sheet rock on the walls in the bathroom, I don't know as if you would have a heck of a lot of room left on one side of the bathroom vanity if you had it bumped up against the wall. Leaving a bit of room on each side makes for a larger "working" space for each person standing and using the sinks. If its up against one wall, the person on that side may have to physically move over closer to the person at the other sink in order to not bump their arm against the wall as they're washing up. Maybe try having two people stand and mimic washing hands with the vanity against the wall and see if the wall crowds one of them. Also, it would be nice to have a bit of space on each side for the towel racks. I'm really enjoying watching you fix up this little house and can't wait to see it when it's done!

I love that you guys went with the above counter sink idea. I'm with Mike, I don't love them sitting on top of the counter, but for practicality & cost saving- yep, best option. Good choice.

The key to success on top sinks is proportional visibility.
When people buy the taller side walls of the sink...aka depth,
      it often looks ridiculous.
I would use wall mount faucets.
      Again, proportional.

If it was moved to one side there could be a tall narrow cabinate with shelves for the kids bathroom items. A waist basket underneath it and the side could still have a hook for a hand towel. Optimizing space and storage. Oh, yes. A window at the top of the divider wall for natural light. Could be frosted or stained glass.

Get yourself some resin to coat your vanity top. Totally waterproof! There are lost of you tube videos about resin. Used it in my laundry room to great success. Definietly shift the vanity and create a space for a trashcan.

Center it. On the left you can put some medicine cabinets that you can replace the front covers with some picture or paint something on it so it looks more you. I would put those wall hangers that hold 6 towels rolled up for the kids to use. If you're in the left mirror you'd want some arm space to get ready.

Leave room for a trash can and maybe a few shelves for bathroom supplies. The sinks look great! Y’all are doing great.

Two smaller mirrors, one above each sink, towel storage on the wall between the two mirrors. Vanity flush to the wall nearest the door coming into to bathroom, leaving room on right for a narrow custom built shelving area for more storage, including a trash area at the bottom.

I would centre it. You can then fit towel rails each side for people using both sinks at the same time and they had enough space for towels to hang comput a little bin in the corner near the door. If you are going down the black taps route and black metal on the lights. Perhaps the handles on the sink unit could be sprayed black too? Another good idea (was it Andrews suggestion? Maybe put a little glass window on the wall where he suggested or put a pane of glass above the door or you could put frosted panes on the door (maybe a little arch of glass panes) to let in some natural light from the bath toilet room. Plus if the light was on, at least everyone would know whether it’s vacant or occupied, but they wouldn’t be able to see who is inside or what they’re doing if it’s got frosted glass. But letting light in was a super idea.
