It's good to see someone still doing Fallout 4 builds without mods.
I know this question probably gets asked a billion times on this channel, but I couldn’t find an answer to it. Plus maybe you have a unique take.
Why not use mods? It’s not more lore friendly to not have boxes or campers nor is it really cheating the system with mods like USO since these models are already in the game and should’ve been in the build menu. The closest one I can see is the challenge of building with limited options, but even that makes every build start to look same-y after a while. And every system can get mods easily now even the consoles, so I just can’t get why not to use them
@@dicedude1071 Well Paul is a master builder and of course, the whole premise of his channel here is “the no mods shop class” If he were to use mods, the level of skill and creativity needed to achieve great builds would drop. Everyone and their auntie has a channel doing mod builds but Paul is so talented that keeping it stock is the best way to show off how awesome he is at this stuff. His museum of the commonwealth at Graygarden video is jaw dropping. It depends on how you view things personally. For me, I’m more impressed by Paul’s results because I have first hand knowledge of how hard those ‘samey’ builds are to create LoL Currently at over 1500 hrs FO4 play time btw.
@@dicedude1071 I reckon achieving an awesome looking build result without mods is an appreciable skill, sharing those skills through demonstration is just great and once you've picked them up well enough they're things you always do when and where appropriate, and sometimes a cheeky skill trick is faster than searching through an enlarged workshop menu for an alternative item.
Plus, in my own case, I collect overhaul, skin, companion, weapons, armour/clothing and area/quest mods.. lots of them.. not leaving space for build mods, usually, but there's still times I want a break doing a bit of building, and that's when I'm glad to of taken Paul's classes.

@@dicedude1071 It's more challenging to build without mods and frankly, I prefer no mods.
Paul's building skills and creativity puts him on another level. It's sometimes tedious getting things to blend but it is much more satisfying building something with no mods that looks like it was modded. And learning how the building mechanics accept placements opens massive building possibilities.
this channel is gold. still posting fallout 4 builds without mods, he never clickbaits, he replies to comments sometimes. everyone who still plays fallout 4 should know this channel and i actually feel heartbroken for those that dont know it.

Survival is cool but it gets so boring so fast and you become to powerful to early
I had to limit myself to normal unmodded pipe weapons to enjoy the combat a bit
And the game ist really stable enough for survival to take away your ability to save
I lost many hours of gameplay just because the game crashed right before i went to sleep or while i was sleeping
One time it even crashed while it was saving so i lost a lot of progress
I understand that they dont allow fast travel in survival but they should really allow you to save without having to download mods
If you are building a character specifically for crafting, Strong Back level 4 is a must. You can always fast travel no matter how overloaded you are.
I like to have Strong Back to level 2 though. Mostly because while I hoard pretty much everything my sticky hands can get a hold of in-game, but I also love to carry as many weapons as I can without screwing myself over at the same time.
Definitely. It's especially useful when you have your water farms all over the Commonwealth to fund your building addiction. lol! Need to lug all those waters around somehow!
@@piratesahoy5002 Being a water baron building an empire is pretty fun stuff, I never knew how rich you could get from just hauling hundreds of pounds of water to every merchant in the game.
@@joshuavidrine889 Yeah, it's almost game-breaking how rich and well-supplied you can get. lol!! Never spend caps, take all the traders' caps, get a ton of supplies. 👌

And I just finished putting new roofs, floors, and walls on all sanctuary houses. Glad to see your content coming back to feed UA-cam turned off notifications for a lot of channels I’ve followed.
20:00 The barnacles along the shore do the same as the irradiated thistle. They blast your rad levels up pretty quick when you get close enough. And to anyone else, Strong Back also works if you have enough perk points into it. Then you can fast travel while encumbered.
I build minutemen settlements there and a militia called the “Far Harbor Ruffians” and always I gotta build a minutemen naval base there lol
You should post a walkthrough on that. I’d be interested in seeing your vision on a Minute Man Navy.

One of the nice things about building Far Harbor is the trash cleans up better. You can actually have a clean space to work with.
If you EVER want to do a build at Coastal Cottage, I would love to see how you fix that house or deal with that unscrapable couch.

Not an easy place to build for sure. I have a video up on my channel of how dealt with it. No mods but however I suppose Creation club is considered mods though I see them as add ons. but still no building aids
Was excited to see a new Fo4 video and really stoked when I saw it was Far Harbor. Maybe it was the the rare "good ending" but I really enjoyed FH and like the build options.
The lumber company is probably my lost extensive build outside of Sanctuary. It's a cool challenge to try and "restore" the main building and I've got plans for a manufacturing setup in the side building with the roller lines based on your No Mods Shop manufacturing lessons.

A shopping tip: Myrna and the robot count as two separate vendors. So if you want to double up on their shipments, show up just before either 8am or 8pm, purchase what you want, and let the two switch out in order to make a second purchase.
Huh, I always thought they shared the same merchant inventory. I guess you learn something new everyday.

If you show up during the day, you can shop with Myrna and Percy still. All you have to do is go inside her living quarters and you can trade with Percy as well.
They share inventory...
@@mlawson41102 Nah, they're like 2 Khajiit caravans stopping at the same place. It's more convenient than accessing both Adrianne and her husband's inventory in Whiterun, since there isn't any overlap. In Skyrim the interior merchant chest overwrote the one outside, so you needed to shop outside first then head inside and shop.

Getting ready to load it up and start again soon. Been playing it and Skyrim pretty regularly since they came out.
(Just taking a break for Cyberpunk.)
When setting up supply lines, I like to use Automatons for 2 reasons: 1) you can name them after the base that they supply, so if you run across them in the wilds you can see where they are from. Sometimes they start showing up at other colonies on the trade route, and it makes me wonder why there are extra provisioners there. I can resend them to their colony and start them out again in the right direction. Note: the route is still open and active, they just somehow end up in the wrong place. 2) they tend to be much stronger and FASTER than colonist provisioners. If you have a trade route that has difficult spawns, you can assign it to a sentry robot who can keep the trade route open much better than a colonist. My sentry robot has no trouble taking out the Assaultron and Supermutants on the road from the Slog to Greentop and keeping the route secure. The speed of the Automatron means that if you need to "catch up" to your provisioner for some reason, you don't have to wait as long for them to show up back at the colony.

5.56 is for assault rifles, and 5mm are the ones used in mini guns. Love your content. You really have inspired my depth of settlement making.
My build on Dalton farm was a glass cabin at the end of a long dock. Inside, I had a bar, and some exercise equipment. It was basically a recreation zone protected from the elements by the glass.
I'm glad to see people posting Fallout 1-4 contents on UA-cam. Also I like how you are still active.

I've been watching a whole bunch of your video's. I only started playing Fallout 4 a few months ago as I was caring for my mother when the game originaly came out. But I play this game a lot. Probably have not spend so much time on one video game since playing the original Sim city or Railroad tycoon on my Commodore 64. That was 30 years ago. This game never seems to get old.
I agree and with the building system, it's almost endless creativity.

Yes, Far Harbor is a bleak & foggy environment. That's one reason some of us love it. Something about the inhospitable nature of the Island is very compelling to those of us with a pioneer streak in our mindsets. Also, ghoul bears. How awesome (& terrifying) is that? The fauna keeps you on your toes. You don't know if danger is emanating from just beyond your line of sight through the fog, from the water, or ready to drop out of the trees onto you. The fog also reduces the range at which a sniper is effective, which is a fun challenge. At the same time, the fog lets you draw closer to your enemies without detection.
The fog or haze allows for some great interplay with lighting. I even kept large parts of the settlements lit only by oil lanterns, candles, & barrels to enhance the darkness without eliminating it the way electrical lighting does. I almost feel sorry for the random trappers who think they've wandered into a dark & unprotected part of the settlement only to stumble upon a glowing wolf which guards the waterfront.
The aesthetics of the trapper armor goes well with a piece or two added here or there on a guard in a heavy leather chest piece with a sentry bot helmet.
I've only been playing the game off & on for two months, but the visitor's center & the lumberyard are two of my favorite places to build. Your videos & the basic tools (pillar glitch, rug glitch, etc) have enabled me to repair or in some cases improve on the existing structures. Honestly, I find myself sitting down & playing games on the PipBoy in the little bar/lounge area I made in the lumberyard because I enjoy the setting so much. I can definitely see my version of the Sole Survivor hanging up the trifold general's hat at some point & retiring to the Island.
So, tl;dr -- big fan of Far Harbor. Not a city boy, so getting away from all the concrete & skyscrapers in the video game is a reflection of how I live in real life.
That shed respawns?! I'm definitely going there today with my OC Vin!

I walked from, like, downtown Boston to Sanctuary way overloaded with junk I wasn't willing to drop. It took a couple hours. It actually was kinda fun to stop and smell the hubflowers.

@@SkooledZone so last night I finally got the supply shed open (I hadn't fixed the generator with the broken pipe). I was heavily encumbered with all the supplies, and it took me from 9:30 PM to about 4:30 AM in game time to walk from the supply shed to Echo Lake Lumber, which I figured was the closest settlement. Seven hours game time, about an hour in real life.
Right on time, I was in Far Harbor this week again. No matter how basic you get, you still offer tips unknown. You are the best! Thanks for the content Paul.

When I first started playing fallout 4, your channel is the one I stumbled upon first, among other greats. From your settlement building tips to the amazing wire/wifi glitches, it was such an amazing educational experience in the Skooled Bus :) I love it how even after all these years you are still at it and I also love the fact that the video still starts in the same workshop build area with no much change! Ah the flood of nostalgia. Keep at it man. I know I will still be coming back to your videos even after I turn 60 :')

Very nice, I usually link the Far Harbour settlements after doing simple builds, and then link Longfellow's cabin to Coastal Cottage. I like you supply process, much quicker and cleaner that how I have done it. I would just run around and collect everything and dump it into the nearest settlement onshore. Always wondered how you got all those supplies for your fantastic builds. I have, in previous play throughs, built Echo Lake up, closing in all, or as many as I can; walls, covered floors, and redid the backside of the roofs, I use the opening in the front to put my defenses in and picket fence the opening with just one gate access. Keep up the great work, hope you achieve you UA-cam goals soon. (need to make a badge for that :) )

I recently loaded up my old Fallout 4 saves on a whim and have been obsessed with settlement building for a few weeks now. One by one the old settlements are transforming into city fortresses.

Man it looks like you have not played Fallout 4 in a while. BTW 5.56 goes in the assault rifle and the 5mm is for the mini gun. I like taking the perk for extra ammo (under Luck) as it makes me tons of money. I sell grenades and meds too as they do not take up too much weight. I also will make a run to sell food every now and then, after I get the experience for cooking it.
Even though I like your series I can not run without mods. They are all visual improvements... and... building mods. I do not add new weapons or armor or any cheats and I am not into new missions. One of my favorite is scrap everything because I hate having a something ruined that could easily be torn down for scrap, just like the things sitting next to it... and I hate the mangled bushes and dead leaves all over the place. I actually wish the settlers would help clean up the area really. None of them know how to use a broom or rake or pick up the garbage laying all around. I feel like their mother cleaning up after them all. :P

Good to see you back, Paul- looking forward to this series. As a side note, you can set up a nice provisioner station at Coastal Cottage- it's pretty much useless for anything else- and if you set it up with 4 turrets it'll defend itself nicely.

I love this video. This was awesome. The location isn't necessarily one that I like to build much with, but I would love to see what you might eventually do with the lumber mill here in Far Harbor. It's hard to incorporate the building itself, but I know there's ways to do it.

Always struggled to build in Far Harbour so looking forward to this series. For purchasing supplies, I use both ammo and Jet. I use a chem station at Homeplate or wherever I am when I find the need to go shopping to get around 100 Jets and other drugs and head off to market to get me some steel and glass (for some reason I'm always low in those 2)
only found this channel recently as i just start a no mod f4 play through to get all the achievements and your videos have helped my settlements massively!
You will not regret finding his channel. There is just something about the way he explains things that make you get into the zone without even knowing you are being Skooled. Great ideas and all you need is already included in the game.... :o)

I don't know about console games, but on PC, if you use any 'scrap' that is componentized , it takes the entire item when any component is used.
If you build using one steel and all you have is an item with 3 steel, building takes that entire item just for that one steel. You lose the rest of it. Exactly the same for shipments...
If you build something that takes one copper but all that's available is one Shipment of Copper - 50, the entire shipment is used for that one copper that was required.
On PC, I take ALL my building supplies, dump them on the ground and scrap them into individual items. Yes, it takes a lot of extra time, but it also saves a LOT of supplies.
Again, I only know about using PC for this, not any console.

He's actually retiring from them soon so it's great to have you doing a series. Absolutely would love to see you do more of these while showing the tricks you've shown. Sort of a "Double Black Diamond in Action" series!

At 32:05 , you mention the shipments of supplies and you move them into your workshop. I agree that they should normally work as a source of the supply type mentioned in the description of the shipment, however in my own playthrough on PS4 I found that they would not work as they should. I had to take the shipments out of the workshop, drop the shipments on the ground, open build mode, and manually scrap each shipment. Only then did I have access to the materials. Odd, I know, but like my other comments, my experiences on PS4 are slightly different than yours on PC. I still enjoy all your work, and your content. Thanks for your time reading this.

Good job sir. I always build out into the water as far as I can since it ends up being the flattest place around the farm.
Always good to see ya posting fallout stuff. Had to comment on the hydroxyl acid thing. The dihydrogen monoxide gag is an old school radio prank, but I haven't heard anyone drop the acid reference, even though our most common reference point of acidity v alkalinity is based on h2o => oh- & h+ .

Some of my best builds are at Longfellow cabin. One was the town of Near Harbor, one was the Cliffside Hotel, and the best one is basically a Star Destroyer in the sky above the island.

Another thing that can help with carrying is Grilled Radstag. It gives you a straight up +25 to carry weight. I keep a few slabs of it on hand just in case I need it. Plus, having a full set of combat armor with the Deep Pocketed mod on every piece is really good (My char has a default carry capacity of 430 right now, without using upgraded power armor).
