I began to read comic books as a teenage in the mid-70s where I could buy them occasionally from the local pharmacy and loved the art work. In the 80's, cartoons started to improve but they were still not there yet though there were a few stand outs like "Dungeons & Dragons" and "Transformers". I was introduced to anime and manga through my children and have never looked back. To me, we have always had adaptions from other mediums like the Bible, novels, comic books and now we can also draw from games, manga & manhwa, and anime. I embrace it all in the creation of each individual art form. I'm very excited for the OPLA season 1 and hope there will be many more made in the future.
Dude, what you tried to explain in the end of the video, I swear it felt like you were talking about my parents. 100% relatable and I definitely agree!
If George RR Martin understands that his books need to be changed to be adapted to TV, I can Accept that One Piece needs changes. My biggest fear is that they didn't change enough, we are covering a lot of stories in 8 episodes. Its clear a lot of love is being put into this project, I really hope it does well and gets new people into One Piece
- In that behind the scenes video that came out I found or was informed of some other characters seen like Mohji, Cabaji, Patty & Hongo - I too also knew that it would be not a 1 to 1 with the fact Oda even stated that their will be some characters that will not be appearing in the live action series which there have been a few I noticed that some haven’t announced that they casted an actor like Gin, Gaimon, & Hachi
@@Georgia-p6x Ok I will take your word about Gin & we will see when it comes out, the closest thing I have seen to Gaimon is that in Kaya’s garden references the animals he takes care of, & for Hachi if they don’t use him in Arlong park then I can see them place him later in Sabaody
Glad to see Kreig being cast. Seems to confirm that my theory Arlong will come in at the very end when everyone is weak and tired from fighting krieg and clean up and take Nami.
@24:22 GOLDEN WORDS.... If someone can relate to this, then they know why really the live action is important... as no one in the sane mind is claiming that the live action will overpower the animanga and replace them or that the live action will ruin the original. The original source material will always be the OG and GOATED... but live action has its own purpose, and for us fans..., more content on one piece... in the form of live action with a different interpretation of the same story... that's a win!! And by this if more people... such as our muggle friends, family, parents, siblings (who are only into live action mainstream content and can't appreciate animation medium) can watch one piece through the live action and appreciate this greatest story of one piece that we love.. and if we can discuss and hang out with them talking about one piece.... that's the dream!!!... that's a big fat win for us!! Because not everyone in the world is like us (at least me) who gets more emotional and connected to good anime storytelling and characters more often normal movies or series or shows. Not everyone is same and that's not wrong or bad... and we have to accept that animation is not for everyone... though 60% of them would actually end up liking it if they give it a chance but the rest will never feel the connect with animation as all they'll see is a drawing. But for people like me especially, when I see the "Drawing" of a character, I see the character, the person .... even more than when I see a character in a normal movie where an actor is playing a character. Because, I'll personally end up projecting the actor more than the character they are playing, unless the director or the actor did such a great job to portray those characters (which not the case often). So, For people like me anime is more effective, but not everyone is similar, so there will be people who don't like animation. But we'll always have the itch and desire to discuss, chat about our beloved anime with our family or friends, but that's not always possible. That's where the live action comes into the play. Some People will say why to watch an inferior version of the original ... and that seems like a fair argument, however, those people might not have felt the desire to discuss their beloved anime with their family or friends and develop their relation with them in an additional dimension. That's also fine. But if given a chance to have that opportunity to have your beloved people appreciate and discuss your beloved show, that's always a big big WIN!!! Just see Harry potter franchise, or Marvel pre 4th phase, those fandoms got a global recognition and they got a huge boost in their community to share, discuss their beloved stories. That's all it is about. And those who hate Netflix, it's your personal issue and I can't say anything about that. But we need NOT give any credit to netfix for the success of this live action adaption nor we need not dis netflix on failures of the past adaptations. Netflix just gives money and have distribution rights. But ultimately the team, the crew who end up making the shows are responsible for the output. And all the great things we see about the one piece live action is the result of the vision, dedication, planning, efforts of Matt Owens, Oda sensei and of course the efforts of the whole cast, crew, and the team behind the project. That's all we need to acknowledge. Nothing more nothing less.. One piece is arguably one of the greatest stories ever told... and But no matter how great one piece is, how brilliant Oda is, no matter how many sales figures, records, achievements one piece has, One piece is sitll NOT A HOUSE HOLD NAME.. and Oda deserves a lot more recognition for his great talent, hardwork and his greatest gift to the world... and One piece as a story needs to be in the popular mainstream discussions, as it IS THAT GOOD and people need to watch it. Even for the anime fans who don't watch one piece for it's length, they'll have an opportunity to give it a try through 8 hrs of season 1 of the live action and I'm sure they'll be hooked by it and pickup the animanga continuing after east blue...!! This is also a win! If at all it turns out bad (which is highly unlikely, at this point), it'll still be a decent attempt at the end of the day in the worst case scenario, and we'll appreciate the effort, enjoy it for what it is, and move on, as we still have our beloved animanga. But If it succeeds, we'll have the opportunity to have our close friends and family to appreciate our tastes and we'll get to experience first time watching one piece through them and one piece might not remain as a niche entity anymore... and THAT'S A BIG WIN FOR US ONE PIECE FANS!! Ultimately, it's always a win-win situation for us fans when it comes to live action. Almost all the failed live actions failed for some particular reason. And almost in all those aspects one piece live action is showing promise. Hopefully, this live action actually will succeed in expanding the audience of one piece and that surely will impact our worlds as well, as if it's good, I'll surely force my close friends to watch it and I'm pretty sure they'll love one piece only IF they'd give it a chance and This live action might be the way for it. :D
Honestly, there's a lot of people in my life who aren't into anime or aren't willing to jump into a 1000+ episode series. So I agree that this is a great way to introduce them to the series if it's good :)
@@zimb3l yea but the others had like their whole family, villages or other close ones dead. So 1 person dead really is not that tragic by one piece standards. Also we never saw luffy struggle with that lost and experience while the others did. Heck there were whole arcs surrounding their past

I grew up watching a lot of animes. My grandpa hated we we watched anime. However there is one anime he would occasionally watch with us: Captain Tsubasa. My grandpa was a big fan of soccer. He even cheered some time. I remember him screaming “ shooot for god sake shoooot “
Listen I believe they will do their best. It's known that Oda wants a great show. I am sure because of that they will really pour their best into it. The cast looks great for human people and in comparison to the anime. Can't wait!
Though it’s a fact that some people don’t really care for animation as a medium, it’s not the only factor. My parents also have almost no interest in non live-action movies, but it’s more because it’s generally not the kind of stories they like rather than the way it’s told. My mother almost never appreciated Science-Fiction, Fantasy or action based stories, period. My father likes action movies like any other guy, but he also needs the story to be set in a non-fantastical setting. And that’s not only movies or tv series, they have the same preferences with the kind of books they read. The only anime I think I saw my mother truly get really into was Tokyo Godfathers by Satoshi Kon, because it was set in the real world, and overall it’s one of those movies that, even if it was made as an anime, the story could have been told almost all the same in live-action. So in that aspect, something like OP is way too unrealistic and bizarre story wise for them, regardless of it being in manga or anime form.
Yeah, that's just how people's preferences are sometimes. I have a few family members like your parents. Nothing one can do about that, unfortunately. Regardless, we're still getting new people from the crowds whose main reasons for not watching/reading One piece previously are either that they aren't into animation much or are intimidated by One Piece's length, or just generally didn't have enough contact with it to be interested, so that's a plus.
People always forget about Battle Angel Alita. I still feel that was an almost perfect, if not a perfect adaption. (INB4 it's an OVA so it doesn't count)
Tekking you are the english speaker who pronounce Iñaki's name the best!at least the best from all the youtubers I have seen. I am alwsys thankful that you try your best
Dude! Same here! My parents loved Johnny Bravo and Samurai Jack but have similar feelings to your parents when it comes to overall animation as a medium.
The main problem that plagued live action adaptation, expecially Netflix and Hollywood attempt, Is a serious lack of respect for the original material. That Is why I feel hopeful for this One, at the very least no One complained about the source and , believe It or not, that Is the rarity.
I totally agree with you point about your mom. My significant other also is not super keen on anime, so I really hope the live action is good enough that we can watch together and I can finally explain to him why I love OP so much and we need to make more shelf space for figures lol
I want to turn my mom into a fan as well. She seemed to like the trailer, at least. I understand some things need to be changed, but I hope they don't make significant changes unnecessarily. Lord of the Rings is the perfect example of how to do a live-action adaptation, and The Hobbit is a perfect example of what not to do. My favorite part of what I see in the trailers is the Casting. It is Perfect, especially Luffy.
For a lot of the naysayers of live action anime, I almost never see anyone bring up Alita Battle Angel. It was a fairly faithful adaptation that was entertaining to even I've shown it to.
Okay Zeff looks absolutely perfect. The over-the-top moustache really sells it. It makes me kind of wish Usopp has a long nose or Sanji a curly eyebrow, embrace the weirdness.
We have a picture of Don Kreig's bounty with Milton Schorr in costume btw Helmepo also does get the bowl cut but not until he joins the Marines. We also already have a picture of that too
It can be that they'll build up Krieg and when his ship arrive it immediately get reckt by Mihawk. Just jumping the whole thing but still using him to show how powerful Hawk Eye is.
Honestly I think as long as the live action feels like One Piece and based on the trailers so far it seems like it is going to feel like one piece so I think they're doing a good job so far.
Making something that even non one piece fans can enjoy sound great Little stuff missing might upset some people but they can definitely make up for the little things if it's done well
It’s crazy you brought up cowboy bebop because I loved the anime and couldn’t even get through 2episodes of the live action but my stepdad who’s never watched the anime loved the live action
I also agree it shouldn't be 1 to 1 replication. There's no point or meaning to adapting a show exactly if there's already an anime for it. So far the casting shows that you can portray the concept of Usopp and Sanji can be conveyed without them having those signature design elements.
The order that the back stories probably go from easiest to deal with and not that tragic to the most tragic is probably Usopp, Luffy, Zoro Brook, Franky, Sanji, Chopper, Nami, Robin and finally Jinbei. Also this is just the back story before they become the Strawhat pirates. Having watched it it's pretty good like a 7.6 out of 10; a few changes that I would make but overall would watch a season 2.
the bounty poster images to me don't say just "this was taken with a psychic snail" but also "We had an artist modify these to make people look more evil and offputting."
3:35 i love how when Iñaki answered that some of the other cast memberers were like "no man what u talkin about" but that's how i've always seen it. If it took Garp & Roger to defeat Xebec than i'd assume he could've defeated both of them individually. Also, if anyone is gonna be stronger than the two strongest people who carry the "D" it's another person who carries the "D". andyes, that'sndubitablywatshesaid
0:28 Yes, you are. Spanish Ñ is read (same as Portuguese NH and French/Italian GN, or Ancient Spanish NY) as NY in English. You all watch anime, so picture an anime catgirl talking. Let's say the subtitle reads "Wait _fur_ me", so the seiyuu actually said "Chotto matte, nyah". That "nyah" is how you read the "ña" in Iñaki. Same applies to Zoe Saldaña, the actress who plays Gamora in the MCU and Neytiri in Avatar
There is a good manga to live action adaptation. It's called "Alice in Borderland" it's not a power based show but there's definitely an anime aesthetic to it
I totally get the idea of certain people not receiving information through an animation medium and I went through the same process of telling my mom I’ll check it out and see if it’s good I think everyone behind this really has love for the show if they’re willing to make it consumable by everyone around them
I imagine the hoops on Nami's pants might be similar to metal hoops on medieval belts - they're there to tie stuff to them, like for example your scabbard/sword, coinpurses, little bags of stuff...
Not gonna lie Matt, that poster is freaking awesome, but tell me I'm not the only one who wants that "Beware of pirate activity," poster to be on a t-shirt. I'd be like Fry from Futurama, "shut up and take my money!!"
I'm curious how far you think they'll make it if all goes well. like i cant imagine them making it to arcs like wci and wano, even somehting like thriller bark seems unliekly with people like oars and moria
From what Matt Owens and others close to the project have said, I'm guessing they don't see themselves going past 3-5seasons max which makes sense given Netflix's track record. That would place the shows ending around Enies Lobby. I'm hoping the make it through Marineford and end right before the timeskip. This way, most of the characters people want to see would have been shown in some form, you have a great climactic end, and this point of the story serves as a great ending point and jumping off point for live action viewers to pick up the anime or manga
I mean the anime in itself is only 1 chapter per episode while most animes are usually 3 chapters per episode also considering the insane amount of filler that it took to get to Wano as well. I don't want the live action to speed run through things but the pacing at least needs to be good. Hopefully if the 1st season does good then maybe we'll get more episodes for the 2nd season so they don't cram everything in on a very small amount of episodes like they're doing in the 1st season.
If i get to see croco boy i will be happy, but i would be lying if i told you that i don't want to see them trying to adapt gear 4 and 5 in live action
I don't think it's impossible to do a 1:1 live action adaptation of an anime, but it shouldn't have to be to be good. It's an adaptation, not a recreation, they're going to have differences from the source material. In my opinion, for an adaptation to be good, it needs to do four things. 1: It needs to keep with the feel, theme, and flow of the source material. 2: The characters should be recognizable, not just by design, but by personality as well. 3: The world should be just as recognizable as the characters. Finally, 4: It needs to have just as much fun, heart, and soul poured into it as the original. Most adaptations that fail usually fall flat on one or more of these four things. Best example of failing all four of these being the live action Netflix Death Note. With the exception of L and Ryuk, none of the characters were recognizable to their anime counterparts, the world lacked any of the world building that made it unique to itself, there didn't seem to be any real passion behind it, and it didn't feel like Death Note. I haven't finished either the anime or the live action show, but just from watching the first episode of both, I'd say Cowboy Bebop actually gets pretty close to achieving all four of those, but it does seem to fall just short if what I've heard about the creator walking out on a test screening holds any merit
My hype for the live action is at an all time high, i had my reservations about when i first heard of it, but after all I've heard and seen from it over the years I'm definitely highly excited and looking forward to some live action greatness.
The fact that Luffys Actor knew about Rocks Xebec is already a good sign

My biggest fear is that they didn't change enough, we are covering a lot of stories in 8 episodes. Its clear a lot of love is being put into this project, I really hope it does well and gets new people into One Piece
Lmao this you see all of game of thrones it was trash in the beginning and fell apart at the end
@Areaninetyone that's a personal opinion
@@Areaninetyoneyour opinion does not matter
- In that behind the scenes video that came out I found or was informed of some other characters seen like Mohji, Cabaji, Patty & Hongo
- I too also knew that it would be not a 1 to 1 with the fact Oda even stated that their will be some characters that will not be appearing in the live action series which there have been a few I noticed that some haven’t announced that they casted an actor like Gin, Gaimon, & Hachi
Gin is in the show. He is in the background of a still. Gaimon will be referenced at most. Hachi.... Idk
@@Georgia-p6x Ok I will take your word about Gin & we will see when it comes out, the closest thing I have seen to Gaimon is that in Kaya’s garden references the animals he takes care of, & for Hachi if they don’t use him in Arlong park then I can see them place him later in Sabaody
hachi is zoro's opponent in arlong park sooo i'd thought he's in the show :(
Glad to see Kreig being cast. Seems to confirm that my theory Arlong will come in at the very end when everyone is weak and tired from fighting krieg and clean up and take Nami.
@24:22 GOLDEN WORDS....
One piece is arguably one of the greatest stories ever told... and
But no matter how great one piece is, how brilliant Oda is, no matter how many sales figures, records, achievements one piece has, One piece is sitll NOT A HOUSE HOLD NAME.. and Oda deserves a lot more recognition for his great talent, hardwork and his greatest gift to the world... and One piece as a story needs to be in the popular mainstream discussions, as it IS THAT GOOD and people need to watch it.
Helmeppo's bowl cut is going to be a result of Zoro cutting it with his swords. There bts images of him with his iconic haircut
Honestly, there's a lot of people in my life who aren't into anime or aren't willing to jump into a 1000+ episode series. So I agree that this is a great way to introduce them to the series if it's good :)
Id say luffy is one of the happiest backstory out of all straw hats. Considering Sabo didnt even die it makes it even happier
Maybe retroactively but that doesn't apply to the person experiencing it. Luffy grew up believing his big bro died before he even could set sail
@@zimb3l yea but the others had like their whole family, villages or other close ones dead. So 1 person dead really is not that tragic by one piece standards. Also we never saw luffy struggle with that lost and experience while the others did. Heck there were whole arcs surrounding their past
If we go by only one death surely Zoro is the least sad, because he doesn’t have Garp beating him up
Luffy was also violently tortured on at least 1-2 occasions tbf
Sure no one technically, "died" in his flashbacks, but we had nobles nearly cause genocide in their kingdom, he caused the lose of his heroes arm, and for a decade he and ace both thought sabo was killed by a celestial dragon
You got Iñaki’s name pretty good. I give you the Spanish seal of aproval
i feel you tekking my mom doesnt really like animated films or series but my dad on the other hand he's a disney adult😅 and loves going to the movies. we practically go every sunday if there is a good movie to watch. i am excited for the one live action im definitely sitting them down for a family night to watch this.
Ah, the joy of being a Disney Dad is real and very entertaining to all those involved. My kids have access to the old VHS from when they came out and proud they know how to work them. Lol
@@claytonshea9146 disney dads are the best!
i like the idea of seeing who's who without knowing who's who. the fans will of course identify him and feel rewarded.
what you said at the end is so important! my mom is the same way about animation so I'm really excited to show her one piece in a way that would interest her.
I’m amped for this Oda was fully involved so it’s just one piece with real people it’s different from other live action adaptations.
That’s exactly what happened with the live action dragon ball. It’s not gonna be good
So its just one piece. What does it bring to the series? I would prefer just sticking to the anime. I wish i could have your excitement.
@@Leonkennedy19992it doesn’t have to be innovative, it’s just for fans to enjoy, as well as to attract new fans
@@Leonkennedy19992Same tbh. As long as its the same thing with real people, its just inferior to the anime, and it makes no sense. I would rather watch early arcs reanimated but whatever.
Toriyama doesn't give a shit about dragonball. Oda did an interview with him once and Toriyama seriously forgot multiple characters he came up with even existed. @@TheNumbers97
Thank you for the video! I always enjoy watching your videos!
When talking about Live-Action anime adaptations, everyone forgets about Speed Racer. I think it was genuinely one of the best ever.
Tekking you are the english speaker who pronounce Iñaki's name the best!at least the best from all the youtubers I have seen. I am alwsys thankful that you try your best
This is my thought on live action VS animation: If you restrict yourself to just one type, your going to miss out on a lot.
Dude! Same here! My parents loved Johnny Bravo and Samurai Jack but have similar feelings to your parents when it comes to overall animation as a medium.
Tekkings Spanish Teacher watching like “🤦🏽♂️ I told you you would use this one day señor!” 😂
I wanna see One Piece in live action because I enjoy seeing stories retold and adapted
When you say “reviews, breakdown and discussion”, i hear milkin it and i love it
Everyone involved has already put enough effort in for this series to be given the benefit of the doubt.
The main problem that plagued live action adaptation, expecially Netflix and Hollywood attempt, Is a serious lack of respect for the original material.
That Is why I feel hopeful for this One, at the very least no One complained about the source and , believe It or not, that Is the rarity.
good to know Tekkings dad recognises the greatness of samurai jack
Getting positive parent feedback on One Piece will be amazing, priceless, and wholesomely sweet. If its good, I plan to share it with my dad too.
That final samurai jack season was awesome
Same here tekking if this live action is good I'm going to get my parents to watch it so they too can see the great one piece
Thank you Tekking
that pronunciation of Iñaki was actually super good in comparison to like 95% of native english speakers
For a lot of the naysayers of live action anime, I almost never see anyone bring up Alita Battle Angel. It was a fairly faithful adaptation that was entertaining to even I've shown it to.
I was literally thinking a few hours ago “When is Tekkiing making another live action OP video?”
Same
I’ll look forwards to Tekking’s reviews of this series
OMG, even the Casts of Usopp and Banchina looks similar 😍
Okay Zeff looks absolutely perfect. The over-the-top moustache really sells it. It makes me kind of wish Usopp has a long nose or Sanji a curly eyebrow, embrace the weirdness.
I have the same with my parents. My mom isn't a big fan of anime either, but I have hopes she might actually like the live action
We have a picture of Don Kreig's bounty with Milton Schorr in costume btw
Helmepo also does get the bowl cut but not until he joins the Marines. We also already have a picture of that too
It can be that they'll build up Krieg and when his ship arrive it immediately get reckt by Mihawk. Just jumping the whole thing but still using him to show how powerful Hawk Eye is.
One piece hype for life great 👍🏻 video nice 👍🏻 hype!!!!!!!!!
Honestly I think as long as the live action feels like One Piece and based on the trailers so far it seems like it is going to feel like one piece so I think they're doing a good job so far.
Making something that even non one piece fans can enjoy sound great
Little stuff missing might upset some people but they can definitely make up for the little things if it's done well
It’s crazy you brought up cowboy bebop because I loved the anime and couldn’t even get through 2episodes of the live action but my stepdad who’s never watched the anime loved the live action
I also agree it shouldn't be 1 to 1 replication. There's no point or meaning to adapting a show exactly if there's already an anime for it. So far the casting shows that you can portray the concept of Usopp and Sanji can be conveyed without them having those signature design elements.
that ring sanji was wearing is actually zeff’s jolly roger!
8:33 DUUUUDEEE I CAN'T THAT CASTING IS SOOO PERFECT THEY ACTUALLY FOUND MOTHERFLUFFING ZEFF IN REAL LIFE AHHH SOO PERFECT.
Solid cast. If there’s going to be any problem, it would be the producers like most of the time 💀
The order that the back stories probably go from easiest to deal with and not that tragic to the most tragic is probably Usopp, Luffy, Zoro Brook, Franky, Sanji, Chopper, Nami, Robin and finally Jinbei.
Also, if anyone is gonna be stronger than the two strongest people who carry the "D" it's another person who carries the "D".
andyes,that'sndubitablywatshesaid
It's called "Alice in Borderland" it's not a power based show but there's definitely an anime aesthetic to it
Great stuff a Tekking video on my BDay! The Sun God is blessing us
With the ongoing hollywood actor strike, i wonder if the cast will be able to promote the one piece live action.
Live action is HYPE!
That's my shirt! The Jason "I wish it was friday" shirt! I only wear it on the 13th, if it's not Friday. Ya know.
I totally get the idea of certain people not receiving information through an animation medium and I went through the same process of telling my mom I’ll check it out and see if it’s good I think everyone behind this really has love for the show if they’re willing to make it consumable by everyone around them
THE JACKET IS BACKKKK!!!!!!!!
You nailed Iñaki's name
Also that last bit at the end, that’s basically everyone I meet that’s older than 30-35. Also other people’s preferences
I love that netflix understands the fact that oda wrote the 3rd best selling comic book in the world, and that his input is important.
I imagine the hoops on Nami's pants might be similar to metal hoops on medieval belts - they're there to tie stuff to them, like for example your scabbard/sword, coinpurses, little bags of stuff...
Good to see another video
I’m just excited for more one piece
Not gonna lie Matt, that poster is freaking awesome, but tell me I'm not the only one who wants that "Beware of pirate activity," poster to be on a t-shirt. I'd be like Fry from Futurama, "shut up and take my money!!"
I'm curious how far you think they'll make it if all goes well. like i cant imagine them making it to arcs like wci and wano, even somehting like thriller bark seems unliekly with people like oars and moria
The first thing I think is "how on earth will they make Chopper look passable?"
The live adaptation of alice in borderland is pretty good
let's take a moment and realize that Zeff is gonna be taller than both Krieg and Arlong. *without the hat*
My hype for the live action is at an all time high, i had my reservations about when i first heard of it, but after all I've heard and seen from it over the years I'm definitely highly excited and looking forward to some live action greatness.
I watched some clips. Its amazing. We about to make history
