I agree, definitely play kenshi first. I can't see the devs straying too far from the original game formula in terms of gameplay mechanics and overall feel/pacing, so kenshi 2 will hopefully be kenshi 1 but better.

I hope one of the main focuses for kenshi 2 is performance. I don't think stunning graphics are very important for a game like kenshi, but performance and systems and basically gameplay is the main thing. And also I hope I can run it on my potato pc 😢

I haven't completed any new game since I got into kenshi...nothing holds my attention long before some new idea for a playthrough draws me back.
Kenshi is bloody awesome! I absolutely love it. Only got like 300 hours but regularly playing it. More than Rimworld at the moment, seeing as I have over 2700 hours in that. I can see me sinking many hours into Kenshi. I'm super keen for Kenshi too. And if they're already up to translating the game to different languages that could mean we may have it within a year. I know the first game took a long time to make, but that was done by 1 person. Seeing as the team working on Kenshi 2 is bigger than I thought it was, it wouldn't surprise me if it comes out sooner than we think. 20x the manpower behind the game, you'd hope that it would come out far sooner than 10+ years after the original. That said. I would love for it to come out with minimal to no bugs so im happy to wait longer if they need or want to bug test everything. I will be very disappointed if they follow AAA game standards of blocking content behind paywalls. That would be a huge let down. Adding big content DLCs to it though like Rimworld has I'd be happy with, it brings new life to the game!
MEDIAN play time 149.2 hours!? That is insane! Especially for a single player game
it really is, it's another video topic i'd love to discuss in further depth one day. Many games struggle to get an average of 20-30 hours so 149+ is super impressive.
I'm at 180 while I haven't played in a while I will come play it once I've some time.
kenshi is one of the very best games I have ever played. It has SO MUCH replayability. I haven't even gone to every spot in the game and I have over 1k hours in it.
Wasnt Kenshi 2 suppous to be 1000 years prior to this era? So technically that would make it a prequel ;) also its a good reason to play Kenshi 1. For me question "should you wait for K2 or play K1?" is stupid. Even if Kenshi 2 came tomorrow I would still rather play first game before jumping into second just to know the lore of the world. If it was a totally different world (like Final Fantasy games) then that would be a reasonable question.

I have more than 1,000 hrs of Kenshi under my belt. It's by far the one singleplayer game I've played the most. You really can write your own story in Kenshi, with twists and turns you've never planned for, even on your hundredths run.
I have high hopes for kenshi 2, as well as some hopes for future projects. Maybe we will get a game about the first empire? The galactic empire maybe? It’s a good game when you hope for more games, maybe not the same genre, set in the same universe as the one that started it all
ive been playing kenshi since it had the old desert placeholder map. The Newest version still feels dated in some ways and still has bugs/crashes. but its a great game worth trying. Dont sleep on it dive right in before kenshi 2. Its also 55% off on steam right now
just got the game a few weeks ago. no other game has made me stream 12hrs and still wanting more.
kenshi 1 has a lore that goes deeper than what is playable ( in the alpahs and betas)

Play kenshi first 100% but you have to plan ahead. If you are in school or if you are just starting a new job or just got a new gf do not get kenshi. Wait until you have a few months to hibernate because this game is super addictive. Also expect the possibility that you might hate it right away. I mean I even returned it for a refund until I watched some vids on it and realized there was a lot more to do than I thought. It's not your typical game and until you learn how it works its frustrating. I mean it can get frustrating even after you know what to do but it's a weird super fun kinda frustrating. Just buy it and tell your loved ones you'll see them in a few months and may Beep bless you with his presence.
This game is one of my top 5 games ever. Im 40 yrs old now and playing video games since i was a kid.
i highly recommend buy Kenshi and when Kenshi 2 comes buy it too. Kenshi is sutch a great game with so many stuff you can do i realy hope Kenshi 2 have all this too and more

Yeah I started playing it in ~2019 because a coworker told me about it. Then all the UA-camrs caught wind of it and it got pretty popular. Crazy watching it get that popular with no effort to market the game.

in the push to make games quickly we lost sight of the quality they once had, i hope Kenshi 2 takes as long as it needs to to be as good as it can possibly be
I REALLY REALLY HOPE that they add bisection or decapitation. So many times late game my guy with a meitou plank/halberd will insta -100% someones head/torso/stomach. This would be insanely dope with the ragdoll physics of kenshi. Either that or just instagibbing someone with a megahammer or a mace or a blunt stick.
A punch even. you can punch limbs off of enemies in 1, imagine if you punched their stomach/chest and they just flew off in 5 directions

Such a great game, I would speculate the HN and UC will be returning factions, in game lore suggests the HN weren't so hard core years ago and were generally nicer to outsiders, which will make them more attractive to help and join, the UC was a much smaller entity back then also so the deva would have to create atleast a few new major powers. Can't wait!
I supported kenshi when only half it's map was available and I fully intend on buying kenshi 2 as soon as I can, even if we only have access to a quarter of the map.

i haven't played a lot of either of these games but i like theme both i feel like caves of qud and kenshi share some similarities mainly in the fact that they are opne ended rpg with a lot of things to do. caves of qud doesn't have the colony management and stuff but they just remind me of one another. and maybe the dwarf fortress adventure mode will kinda have that same feeling aswell.
The first games map is like 830 some square kilometers and it does not feel empty anywhere even in the empty desert portion there’s always some thing somewhere interesting in the world feels alive I can’t really expect them to produce anything in a timely manner
This is where I'm at as well. If the want to put Tolkien levels of effort into world building, let them take all the time they need. It'll be that much better when we do get to see it.
I mean Kenshi is a fun game so even if Kenshi 2 releases tomorrow I'd still recommend buying it

That’s actually pretty interesting if true. Means the game has appeal beyond the game itself, like community content, memes, etc.
as a content creator I know certain viewers either are on the fence or they don't have the hardware to play Kenshi so they watch the game or get sucked into reading about it

probably ,the game doesnt run well no matter the pc ,but ive heard it doesnt matter what ur pc is because its old engine runs on anything. havent tested it myself though

I agree with what you said about if how you don't play Kenshi, you won't get Kenshi 2. People new to Kenshi need to learn how to suffer before they understand why we play this game.
How do you all play kenshi. I tend to build an outpost and gather a team. I kite gangs into cities or pay mercenary groups to attack towns then steal all the loot. I havent even scratched the surface. I would love some tips for my plauthrough
while there is really no one way to play kenshi i suggest you try challenging yourself through near-impossible scenarios or RPs. there are a lot of brutal starting modes on the workshop that are lore-friendly, my favorite being a limbless man with only one arm. if you fancy roleplay that could be another way to spice up the gameplay as well.

Things I've done:
Smuggle drugs as one person
Make a very strong squad and kill everyone and everything
Make a strong sword guy and de-limb entire towns
Sell beak thing and levathian things.
Made a huge outpost in the middle of the map with constant raids.
Explored the map.
I just screw around. 2 playthroughs ago I started a "guy and his dog" run and made a huge city in the foglands with a population of about 60, not including the army, which was about 20. My current playthrough was rock bottom start, I was gonna make it a solo playthrough, but then I ended up in crabtown and said fuck it, lets get some crabs.
i think kenshi 1 is chopped to what it is and made a great base game for the next one, the developer is still humbled enough to still put some TLC into the next few games that he makes, mind you i love kenshi its a huge learning curve when you first start it, kenshi 2 should be cool

The mad genius baked the Kenshi 1 grind INTO the Kenshi 2 wait. You fools. You have to grind to survive this test. Go run a couple hundred miles, carry some rocks, open a public chiropractor’s clinic, or even kill some crackheads. The grind has already started, and prayer day will reap its toll if you’re not ready.

I got a PC about 2 years ago. Kenshie was my first buy. I captured the bugmaster. Got the shek princess. Then, I kind of quit playing. Dont.know what to do next. I have a big ass base, and I wanna free the slaves.
i was looking to buy it being on sale $9.89 i scrolled to see the reviews first 10 all thumps up i then turned the page and again all good reviews, keapt scrolling an scrolling don't know how many positives reviews i past i found ONE lone negative, and was do to no proper economy , other then that that person does like the game. So no more passing up these sales i am buying it...

Kenshi 1 was beautiful as is. Maybe more diversity in animals, armor, factions, races. But otherwise a great game and for 20 dollars that’s a steal

What I hope to god the Developers will do is giving the Hivers 6 Limbs in Kenshi 2. 2 Arms and 4 Legs. It's hard standing without feet. Otherwise real insects wouldn't require at least 6 limbs to stand on.

kenshi is the best indie game ever...the gameplay put to shame alot of the triple a. If you like a true rpg sandbox, base building, squad combat then just buy kenshi 1 as you will get thousands of hours in...kenshi 2 will be at least 2-3 years...a 20 man studio is small for what has been talked about so they will need time to get all the mechanics in and bug free
Until kickstarter there was only ONE man working on creating Kenshi. Kickstarter allowed for Graphical improvement. Why will 20 not be enough?

I always compare Kenshi to Dark souls mixed with runescape.
Hated Kenshi when I first downloaded it...spent an hour dieing with no purpose before a I uninstalled in disgust.
Tried it again for some reason a year later and its easily my favorite game...ever.
I hope they create the unfair world that is kenshi from kenshi 1. The holy nation is a good example .
the game needs more to fix. needs more auto settings. too much micro manage and hard to maintain an army. and bugs are numerous
My biggest concern is the change of the game engine. I think they have problems with it and that's why they stop communicate on the dev of kenshi 2. I think a lot of people will be disappointed with kenshi 2, and will remember kenshi 1 as a masterpiece.

There's no question of it. You have to play Kenshi 1. It's still just too good and with the modding community, it is likely going to be better than Kenshi 2, until it's modding community catches up.
I know co-op is not coming to the game, but omg if they change their mind and make it possible for us to play with friends i will pay double.

The sims is NOT a great game lol....... maybe the original was good......... the rest are just repeats and on same engine lol. dont even consider anything sims to be out of the trash at this point.
Well i am very pissed off, i bought Kenshi about 2 months ago because a few different youtubers plus there followers told me that this game was still getting improved. But that's crap as there doing nothing with Kenshi as there putting all there efforts into Kenshi 2.
Sims 4 is not a good game.
My only issues i have with kenshi is stability and performance, so just making a conversion to a better engine would make it totally worth 60 dollars imo.
But i would love to see some deeper mechanics, however i would rather have a stable kenshi 1 copy, than the devs sacrificing aspects of gameplay for trying to outdo themselves.
I feel like alot of sequels/prequels to first games end up being watered down versions of the 1st one, due to devs getting too ambitious, wanting to rework the formula.
