Honestly this is one of the most active Grappling channels on UA-cam that is helping me and my guys in getting better in our NoGi and submission wrestling type grappling which isn't based upon very specific guards like the rubber, De la Riva or something else. Although I'd love to see more NoGi application in like De La Riva, Barembolo, X, Spider, Butterfly, Turtle almost anything. This channel has helped me dearly as a White doing BJJ for about 6 months I truly am grateful to you guys.
That was a great story about how you discovered this counter to the NS choke. You truly are an artist! Love your channel! Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge with us!
you rock Coach Brian! You are my favorite teacher online. Im a four stripe white belt who shattered his arm in my last grappling industries tournament. Im on the sidelines for another month and your videos have been great. we are studying this north south stuff tonight at st Paul bjj academy in Minnesota. I can't wait to try it out in a month or so when I get back to drilling. thank you!
Your videos are always helping me and My training partners. You’re changing the game with all your details you put out. I’m holding these bridges and chasing the wedding sweep and everyone wants to know all about it. Thank you again !!!
I saw Jeff monson showing his north south choke , he puts his hand under your shoulder before setting up the choke , which makes it hard to do the variations of escape , very interesting how technics can be master and perfected and variations 😀
Good stuff. I remember being a white belt(bad ass blue belt now) just grabbing stuff, whatever I could and occasionally stuff would work. Whether it had been done before or not, who ever knew. I still do it today when nothing comes to mind. Was doing a step over Kimura and partner passed his arm(left) past my body towards his head, and using my right, hard to picture but I had to really twist, over hooked his wrist, came back under tricep making a modified Americana, lifted his arm so he couldn't squirm out and tap. I'm sure it's a regular less used moved, maybe catch wrestling but to me it came from my master mind lol.
I don’t know, seems to me that the guy applying the north south choke has a time advantage by starting the choke first, so commun sense tells me that the guy on the bottom should pass out first. So either the rear naked grip is stronger than the north south choke or the guy on the bottom had stronger squeeze.
All I can say is, try it for yourself. I would never thought it would work until I witnessed it in a real match. My feelings are that the rnc grip just works faster. Of course part of your success is catching your opponent off guard. I use the Ezekiel variation but I have had a couple big guys get good at this one.
I honestly think If they say that it takes no technique! to me most things that actually work really really well seem to take no technique! It just works always!! It’s like someone teaching throws, sometimes the ugliest looking throws the most effective because it works!
Steve MacInnis Yeah sometimes I just use my phone and I might be at a light, or something. And I don’t really pay attention that close it looks all good and I stop it! I can’t really look down at it I just say all looks good, and I post it will finally when I get home I’m like oh my gosh it just changed everything on me.
If the guy on top knows what he's doing with North South, this will be very hard, North South is my bread and butter everything in this video is easily countered by some head movement or just a transition to Kimura for a temporary threaten then a reposition into a stronger North South.
3:10 would be tough for me, its just a weak position for me to me in, too much bench no rowing lol just wondering on different ways to open that arm up :-)
well common bro I'm a white belt iv never even been in this position yet lol last class we were standing headlock escapes and my lower back was jacked for a few days. your work is awsome man I honestly don't mean to criticize, just remember the position of ignorance from witch I speak lol
I hear you. Listen... a lot that you see won’t always makes sense and sometimes when it does make sense in your mind, it doesn’t in reality. This is the way it is for beginners. Trust me, learning how to frame the neck away will get you out of a lot of headlocks. It is that simple.

Actually we need to track down and give credit to the white belt who invented the move

Awesome... I got wedding sweep’d by one of my students this morning... it was cool... I couldn’t stop it.
Got a guy at my gym that loves North/South choke. Can't wait to see if I can catch him with this. Thanks for the great info again, Coach!
Check out the other video too of the “sneaky Ezekiel”. If you do it right you should at least escape.
TeachMeGrappling Coach Brian Yes sir! I have watched it and am starting to drill it.
Hey, Thanks Brian, always great info. By the way, Kevin is a stud. Super cool props to that guy!

You always read my mind. Last night training i wanted to refine my north south choke defence again. Amazing!
A big hi from Argentina to Kevin and to you coach!!
What is Kev’s story? I’m already inspired.
He was born with cerebral palsy. He has been training for probably 15 years now. He is a beast.

First time i saw this technique was many years ago in catch wrestling very effective :))
Awesome technique and great story!
Kevs the man !!
Thank you for sharing, love all your added info. Will you kindly show how you defend from the bottom north south position?
Some day for sure!
Thank you! I’m going to try this! 😁
Best online coach!

Thanks kev
just wanna say that kevin is awsome! have a nice day and thanks for the video!
agreed!!
Fantastic
Hey Kevin what if he keep his head in the middle of the bottom guy for north south choke
Yes this can help defend this.
Thanks! North South is one of my weaknesses:/

How'd you get that shiner Coach Brian?
Wrestling with one of my 11 year olds. He is a beast... It happens.

I don't understand??
I dident understand the ether don't feel bad lol 🚭🎄
TeachMeGrappling Coach Brian fixed it

I can’t really look down at it I just say all looks good, and I post it will finally when I get home I’m like oh my gosh it just changed everything on me.

👍👍👍
hi,i try to do this proposly but twice i got choked.what do u think
Start out by creating a frame with your forearm. Do it early and turn into him.
You're just not cut out for jiu jitsu. You should quit(sarcastic)
If the guy on top knows what he's doing with North South, this will be very hard, North South is my bread and butter everything in this video is easily countered by some head movement or just a transition to Kimura for a temporary threaten then a reposition into a stronger North South.
yeah, but where's ashley
Haha... she is in Europe modeling! 🤷♂️
You mean MEGAN
Found this on accident lol #defendthenorth #Street fighter V
Lol
Is that kev or randy orton?
Any headlock escape that involves just trying to pull your head out is no good, there has to be a better way
What do you mean?
3:10 would be tough for me, its just a weak position for me to me in, too much bench no rowing lol
just wondering on different ways to open that arm up :-)
I don’t understand you. What is hard about 3:10??? You frame the neck and get your head out and replace guard.
well common bro I'm a white belt iv never even been in this position yet lol
