2 cases of beer, one bottle of bacardi, Panama city, 1987. a platinum blonde who changed me forever. what a week. God I miss the 80s. This is the music that made the 80s Awesome!
This is one of my favorite songs of all time ever since I heard it on the radio once. Too bad they never got their big break. Deffinately better than alot of bands of that era.
INSIDERS ROCK!!!!!! THIS ALBUM IS AMAZING!! I HAVE EVERYTHING I COULD FIND FROM THESE GUYS, CONSISTENTLY GREAT SONGS!!! THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BANDS YOU NEVER HEARD!
Discovered this song at an FM radio station I was working at back in '88, absolutely loved it, put it on high rotation on my show. Couldn't find anything else by them back then. Now, I've discovered a bunch of albums they have released, great band.
This is a wonderful song, I don't know why this is not known for more people, I'm from México and I had it recorded since I was younger and I remember good times when I hear it
You know what? I have listened to this cd for a very long time and the Insiders were a powerful band.I know time wipes all things away but the music they played was just damn good!
Having to cancel my beach trip this year and missing the beach like crazy brought me here. As classic eighties as they come. These guys never got their due.
I saw them at Summerfest in Milwaukee in the early nineties. They were playing at 2 Pm at the Miller Stage. For an Encore, they did the Chamber's Brother's "Time Has Come Today" that morphed into the Doors' "The End". For an afternoon show, i was great. "Love Like Candy" was on the same album as this song. It's a great album if you can find it. I remember the lead singer making a smar-tass comment during the show in which he said, "Some one asked us if we take requests. In Chicago, we refer to them as suggestions."
Saw them at Toads Place in New Haven, CT in 1987. I had picked up there CD after seeing this video on MTV. They were a fantastic live band and sounded great in person.
I was on a road trip back in 1987 or 1988 and wanted some new music for the road. I bought the cassette of "ghost on the beach" pretty randomly. Loved it! Played it until the cassette wore out. Love this song, Memory Row, Moondog Howl, Love Like Candy, all of them.
Another great band that fell off my radar. Thanks. Time to fire up some BoDean's. I remember talking to someone who saw them live, said they were louder than God, IIRC.
one of my very favorite, defining pop songs of the eighties...awesome powerpop :) Album is a very consistent slice of heaven too, including a bang-up cover of of the Everly Brothers Price of Love
Heard this on XRT last week -great song - rememeber it well from the late 80's. John has been an instructor at the School of Rock in Highwood the past few years.
I was stationed in Germany in the late 80's and a buddy had his family record hours and hours of MTV on VHS and send the tapes to us. We were absolutely blown away the first time we saw this one. I was able to score the vinyl album at the time and still have the CD too, as well as a number of other Insiders recordings. It remains one of my favorite songs of all time. The irony for me is that, back then, I was a kid from northern Wisconsin and today, I work out of a firehouse right down the street from FitzGerald's. Sadly, I missed so many of these great perfomances.
The drummer to this band is my uncle his name is Ed breckenfeld he is a amazing drummer right now he is playing in a cher show the show is called the beat goes on it is a Cher tribute band
I was in middle school when this tune came out. One of a handful of tunes that remind me of that time and musically stand out. Love the vibe, very catchy
I loved 80s college rock! What a shame bands like this were not more commercially successful. I like some of today's alt rock but most does not compare.
Now if we could just get someone to post "Love Like Candy" video if it's available. Both songs are great. It took me years to finally connect again with this song and a cd copy of it. Like 20 years.. literally. Great band.
I'm late to the party. I corresponded years ago with Gary Yerkins. Was able to acquire the follow up cd that was never released by the record label, and a bunch of live stuff from him. One of my favorite bands.
Gary runs the pop music program here at Columbia College Chicago. Teaches songwriting classes and runs ensembles with Chuck Webb. Just thought I'd let you know haha.
That night I saw you, the night I first touched you Laid in the surf and kissed the salt off your face The waves boiling in the heat of a lover’s embrace On cool sand by a fire in the open air Making love almost the moment we met A soggy Romeo, a soaking wet Juliet And just the other night, as I walked beside the shoreline In the misty light, standing underneath the moon I saw you, building a castle for the tide Out on the beach Ghost on the beach The summer passed with the pounding of a heartbeat Souls connected, two bodies inspired The seconds ticking to the rhythm of a burning desire Yeah, but now the sand is smooth like no woman never walked there The wind is silent like no man ever spoke The fires cold in their holes, just dust and smoke And just the other night, as I walked beside the shoreline In the misty light, kneeling underneath the moon I saw you, drawing a circle in the sand Out on the beach Ghost on the beach The sand is smooth like no woman never walked there The wind is silent like no man ever spoke The fires cold in their holes, just dust and smoke Yeah, when I’m all alone, I will go down to the waterline And cast a thousand stones, as I stand under the moon And I’ll see you, washed up, some ghost inside a bottle Out on the beach Ghost on the beach
Title popped in my head this morning, came to UA-cam....there it was. Hadn't seen it since the 80's, maybe(?) What music used to be. Now, crap on a broken stick.
Great song! I took lessons from Ed Drummer over 30 yrs ago like the song then I still do and haven't listened to it in some time but still a great song listening now 30 yrs later what happened? I had some time as a bass player for a band and the drummer's brother was and is in Chevelle no big deal on my part but I thought you guys were a big deal! You have this masterpiece many don't have that !!! Dana Rigney Remax Advantage
All they needed was doc magee for a manager . Then .... Triple platinum many gramys and there a house hold name . They are just a damn good band that didnt get promoted. Does anyone know where i can buy a CD from them or down load there music ? . Thanks 👍
Saw them at Toads Place in New Haven, CT in 1987. I had picked up there CD after seeing this video on MTV. They were a fantastic live band and sounded great in person.
They just played this on WXRT and I had a flood of memories come back.

Gary is a teacher at Columbia College in Chicago. Head of the songwriting department. Great guy, and great teacher!
These guys were the toast of Chicago in '87. Good times.

Never get tired of this video, one of the finest ever for matching the mood of the song
Discovered this song at an FM radio station I was working at back in '88, absolutely loved it, put it on high rotation on my show. Couldn't find anything else by them back then. Now, I've discovered a bunch of albums they have released, great band.
Back again as the air gets cool and I start listening to beach music. That snare drum sound heals my soul. This is a little masterpiece of power pop.
This is a wonderful song, I don't know why this is not known for more people, I'm from México and I had it recorded since I was younger and I remember good times when I hear it
Chicago Beach Music at its finest!!!!
This video came on in a GodFathers Pizza in Kingsport Tenn. Back in 85 or when ever.....I was hooked ! Love these guys!

You know what? I have listened to this cd for a very long time and the Insiders were a powerful band.I know time wipes all things away but the music they played was just damn good!

so glad this song is on youtube, I've been singing the chorus for years and couldn't remember the name of the group..love it!!
This is a perfect album.
Sure wish they'd do another.

Terry Havel played this on 93 QFM during his 'Radio Chaos' program. AND I'd hear it on the WARP on AM radio. The memories...
This record brings back a flood of memories.
Saw them at Toads Place in New Haven, CT in 1987. I had picked up there CD after seeing this video on MTV. They were a fantastic live band and sounded great in person.
Awesome song !! All I can say
I bought the album on vinyl yesterday for $4.95. Good purchase! I've never heard these guys before. A bit country, a bit of folk, a bit of rock.
Saw these guys at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn, IL. about 30yrs ago, thought they were the next BoDean's, wonder what happened ? Still an awesome tune.
Another great band that fell off my radar. Thanks. Time to fire up some BoDean's. I remember talking to someone who saw them live, said they were louder than God, IIRC.
Ed gave me (and many, many other kids) drum lessons back in the day. Great drummer, great teacher, and a great dude all around.
Kind of a similar sound to the Hooters. Two bands that both should have been a lot bigger than they were. Thanks for some great music.

This song must have a spirit that just creates great times because I have wonderful memories, too. I love it.
Taste of Chicago a million years ago. Free concert. Absolutely love them
I loved 80s college rock! What a shame bands like this were not more commercially successful. I like some of today's alt rock but most does not compare.
Blast from my past. Saw them at Metro (Chicago). Memories of Montrose Harbor.Chicagos Lake Front. @ 6am on a Sunday.
Back in 1987 I saw the Insiders open for The Rainmakers at the Park West in Chicago what a show!
I had forgotten this song. Man that's cool to run across it after all these years.
Saw them in a little Club in Eugene Oregon back in the eighties. One of the best concerts I ever saw
Great great tune!!
This is a GREAT album which I have on vinyl and still play regularly. Nice LP Jr doublecut. I know what im gonna play when I cover it.
Saw them live at a street fest in Knoxville in '87 and got album. Great 80's band
I'd love a comp from Numero, nuggets style ,with all these lost killers! Awesome tune !
Now if we could just get someone to post "Love Like Candy" video if it's available. Both songs are great. It took me years to finally connect again with this song and a cd copy of it. Like 20 years.. literally. Great band.

Fuck You Dan FUCKING OPYD,!
Fucking awesome !
Damn that drummer's a hard hitter.
I'm late to the party. I corresponded years ago with Gary Yerkins. Was able to acquire the follow up cd that was never released by the record label, and a bunch of live stuff from him. One of my favorite bands.
Always think of this song when I'm walking by Lake Michigan in Chicago.
Gary runs the pop music program here at Columbia College Chicago. Teaches songwriting classes and runs ensembles with Chuck Webb. Just thought I'd let you know haha.
damn good tune!
I saw them live at a Small Venue in Chicago in the early 90's. I wish I could remember where.
Mr O'Rourke...if you are there...some of us drummers would like to know how you got the great snare sound on this track. Thank You Sir.
Love this song, glad to be able to find it!
How am I just now hearing this for the first time?
The Panama beach, fifth of bacardi, a tanned babe named Lana. 1988 what a summer
mach1franco I have always said 1988 is the greatest year in the history of mankind. I would go back in a sec if I could.
first heard this song on 105.7 WAPL a few years back
love the video and the band...loved watching them live...wonder where they are now...Gary and Johnny...
Not sure about those two but I know where the drummer is
That night I saw you, the night I first touched you
Laid in the surf and kissed the salt off your face
The waves boiling in the heat of a lover’s embrace
On cool sand by a fire in the open air
Making love almost the moment we met
A soggy Romeo, a soaking wet Juliet
And just the other night, as I walked beside the shoreline
In the misty light, standing underneath the moon
I saw you, building a castle for the tide
Out on the beach
Ghost on the beach
The summer passed with the pounding of a heartbeat
Souls connected, two bodies inspired
The seconds ticking to the rhythm of a burning desire
Yeah, but now the sand is smooth like no woman never walked there
The wind is silent like no man ever spoke
The fires cold in their holes, just dust and smoke
And just the other night, as I walked beside the shoreline
In the misty light, kneeling underneath the moon
I saw you, drawing a circle in the sand
Out on the beach
Ghost on the beach
The sand is smooth like no woman never walked there
The wind is silent like no man ever spoke
The fires cold in their holes, just dust and smoke
Yeah, when I’m all alone, I will go down to the waterline
And cast a thousand stones, as I stand under the moon
And I’ll see you, washed up, some ghost inside a bottle
Out on the beach
Ghost on the beach
I remember seeing them live at Mabels at the U of I in Champaign...good times!
Title popped in my head this morning, came to UA-cam....there it was. Hadn't seen it since the 80's, maybe(?) What music used to be. Now, crap on a broken stick.
as I stand under the moon, I'll see you; washed up, some ghost inside a bottle....

The Drummer was my teacher when I was just a wee lad!
Did Ed Stasium produce this?
I didn't know Bill Hicks could sing. Jk, great song though. I remember it from the 80's. It didn't catch on for some reason.
Very BoDeans
Dad didnt lead me wrong
This song should be everyone's summer theme. The lead singer don't look like shit, but this is a jam
Randy Newman's lil brother😅
You never see ghosts on the beach

And you can't download this song on iTunes.
There is a live version that you can buy
Saw them at Toads Place in New Haven, CT in 1987. I had picked up there CD after seeing this video on MTV. They were a fantastic live band and sounded great in person.
