Does anyone not speak English in the Netherlands? I was so impressed when I went to Amsterdam, it seemed like absolutely everyone was fluent in English. Those people sure know how to welcome the tourist, by the way. Hope to visit again!

Such a beautiful language, It reminds me of Gaelic, love them both im glad I found this vid I want to try to learn Dutch. Im also learning Italian at the moment to :)
That is so nice to hear! I always hear negative things about Dutch, i think that i only hear negative thing because i am Ditch, but its really nice to hear people say aomething positive😊.
It was the first #Dutch language course video I watched. I studied German for 1 year and only comparing here, I verified the difficult is the same, however, its really possible to learn and speak. Thanks for this initial support. Now, I am following the website channel. See ya, from #Brazil
I think I have an advantage because my home language is afrikaans which comes from dutch so I can kind of understand dutch already I just have to learn how to speak it myself
Thank you very much! dank U wel! I would need a little more advanced dutch classes. By the way, when I was in Amsterdam every person I met, spoke good english Best greetings from Poland! Beste groeten uit Polen!
there is far to much english spoke in these videos to have any effect on my dutch language ability. I would recommend dutch speakers watch this video to learn english. Do you have videos teaching dutch english?
For my 18th I’m going to Amsterdam with my parents, brother and boyfriend. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations on what to do when I go? And are the Dutch friendly?
For the people who learn dutch and want to visit or live in Netherlands. I know dutch is for people who comes from asia and other countries. Most (not every) of the dutch people can speak english so yes also in villages or towns, because dutch people learned English at every school, it doesn´t matter if it is a special or higher education or it is in a village or town, city. But in a village u can first asking it if u are not sure. And dutch language also Loan words from english and german. And for the word ´´je´´. ´´Je´´ u saying to kids and pubers but for old peole u saying ´´U´´. But some people who older than u they saying that it is not a problem if u saying ´´je´´ but they must saying it self. If u saying je they saying that it is ´´onbeleeft´´ not kind as translating. I know this things because i live in Netherlands when i was 3 years old and for me it was also hard to learn! so i have experience with those things! feel free to as me more those things. I want to help if u want it! Succes! and sorry for some mistakes o my message my english is reasonable good.
The biggest problem for most is to pronounce the letter G oh I had to practice that one it's more a sound than a pronunciation once you got it you good to go ...best advice i can give good luck to all of you 😉
Most ppl who speak any other language learns English but I have noticed that most English speaking ppl can't speak a second language. I had to learn Dutch when my parents moved to Surinam my mom is English my dad Dutch. We are all bilingual also my kids I have taught. All my siblings speak 3 languages all languages spoken by one or the other are Portuguese French Spanish German and dialects...my mom learned Latin when she was at school. It's very easy to learn a language even SIGN eldest son signs in English and Dutch.
It seems to me that a Dutch native speaker can understand German. Some words and the structure looks similar, don't know if I am correct about it. As a comparison I am Brazilian and I can understand Spanish because the languages are very similar.
well thats hardly to explain almost every sound pronounced is diff but we all have the same point from where the languages came so i think you should learn the pronunciation of the letters first! :D or just repeat the speaking to enlarge your fluency
we talk backwards in a way.. especially when we count we said 7en40 instead of 47 lol which is a weird thing we manage to learn on school usually when we have to write down we start writting the the 7 before4 with a space or either we wait till the full number is dictated
Almost everybody in Dutchland speaks English exerpt for most elderly, so don't bother and just ask If someone speaks English and you'll get your answer lol.
I want to learn how they can speak there language? cause my fiance is dutch..But he can speak english... But all his family is dutch language ..So i cannot talk to my fiances family cause they dont know how to speak in english..
There's THAT more "American (US/Canada)" 'r' sound at the end of a syllable. I've heard that before from most Dutch people I've heard, but perhaps not all. Is that a Holland accent? I ask because I've heard it from football narrators, interviewers (subtitled interviews of footballers, Van Halen, etc.) and from when I visited Amsterdam.
I was playing Minecraft 30 minutes ago with some people from the Netherlands. We’d been talking over discord and they were really friendly in the typed chat talking to me in English. However, once we entered a chat room to converse more fluently, I quickly discovered that they preferred to speak Dutch over English. About 40 minutes passed, and in that time 2 boys from the Netherlands joined us. I had stayed mostly silent in this call as I didn’t want to feel like a burden. Eventually, one of the boys reached out to me and said “Hey Wnglish speaker, fuck off”. I held my head high and politely responded saying “sure thing, thanks for having me” But it still really hurt my feelings. I know I probably overstayed my welcome in the call, but we had been having so much fun when we were just typing. I don’t know why I came to this video to rant, but everybody I know is asleep so I don’t really have anywhere else. I hope those who were nice to me in chat as well as those who apparently despised my presence are doing well. And I hope my feelings will pass soon

We get English at schools at the age around 10/11 in schools. Then going into secondary school and middle school it becomes like a actual lesson :)
yes like almost everybody here speaks english.. (i live in amsterdam)
Not only in Amsterdam. Allover the country. German too.
I’m dutch, but I can speak English
There is a 90% of Dutch people that can speak English
Amazing. Dutch actually sounds more like american english than british english does. thanks for sharing
It's because there were more dutch migrants to the USA than british ones so their influence is significantly bigger lol

I had a quick question. Why is the g in Engels pronounced differently that g is is most other Dutch words?
It is because of the n. When you write ng you pronounce it differently then only g.
