I first saw Charles at an event in New Hampshire, USA about 12 years ago called Bass Solo Fun. It was a competition for bass players of all types of music to compose a solo and perform it. Charles had his LeFay bass with the leavers and he just blew everyone away, and today he still blows everyone away. Masterful as usual, Charles!

INCREDIBLE showcase of 6 string piccolo basses. I personally prefer the sound of the standard bass, but it's about time that this niche instrument gets some love. And there's so many incredible bassists on it too, like Prince and Tom Morello and Jimmy Page, and we can't forget about Jimmy Hendricks. Glad they're finally getting the recognition they deserve. Always overshadowed by standard bassists like Guy Berryman and Michael Anthony.
Love your playing mate. It's beyond me that after all these years musicians haven't done a lot with instrument experimentation. 'Here is my one string bass with a harmonica attached to the pickup magnetically going through my Mum's friend Janet'....bypassed.
This was enjoyable, Thank You! Good playing! I've told myself when I can achieve some things on guitar...I am going to reward myself with a cloud guitar. Full size....and it helps that I am a Prince fan.
Man, you have to have very strong fingers to finger tap with both hands like this and be so crisp and clear with each note played. I suppose the strings are also adjusted so they are very close to the fret boards for Finger Tapping. I am amazed at your talents to play like this. Thanks for the video, Take care.
Nobody talking about how nice and clean the playing is? Lots of fancy piccolo tapping with oodles of distortion around. Not saying it’s some near impossible level feat per se, but it is very very nice. Makes me wonder how several instruments played together would sound. It could be a really cool collab. Combine bass solo with low end bass support and piccolo treble.

I don't know much about most musical instruments (I know how to play piano so I know SOME music terminology but not much about instruments specifically except the piano itself), can someone please explain to me what a piccolo bass is like I'm five?
A piccolo bass is either an electric bass or acoustic double bass which has been tuned to a higher frequency, usually one octave higher than conventional bass tuning. This allows bass players to use higher registers during soloing while retaining a familiar scale length and string spacing.
Yes, I loooove the bass solo on the really less known song... let's call it " United for West Compton" to avoid any censorship of the complete title.. The song itself is crazy, and the bass solo is pure bliss. I really would like to see and listen to Charles playing something like this.
I may not know anything about the technical aspect of a Bass Guitar however, the best sounding Bass guitar I have heard Charles play is the LeFay especially when he goes from the E & A string to the D & G string they are very complimentary to each other, unlike the Shecter Signature Bass; which doesn't sound that great between the top 2 and bottom 2 string! The 6 string Shecter sound great too...
You need a challenge.... how about "Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt - The Mars Volta" Bass solo but you must play on a 7 string bass and play the guitar solo too on the same bass. :) Tuning is up to you!
