Few months back there was a youtuber from Europe, I think he was in his late 50s. He hated almost everything about Malaysia. He insulted our food, he refused to take off his shoes when entering a temple because he said it was dirty, he bodyshamed our women and he made it his mission to find all the trash for his content. I think most of the Malaysian viewers were ashamed and offended. But you are totally the opposite. You tried every kind of dishes you can find even durian, you always spend your time talking to the locals and I appreciate all the positivities you have shared with us. Thank you so much for coming to Malaysia and all the beautiful videos you have made for us. Good luck on your next exploration and do come again!
That is Sean, vlogging a dead horse. He is British. Anyway he has his style, others will have theirs. Food vloggers mostly look at prices, quality of food, cleanliness of premise, crowded or not crowded.
@Gajah Mengaum he is raw vlogger. Less editing. BTW, he did get banned by UA-cam for 7 days in Philippines because he filmed cock fighting. A lesson to all vloggers.
Hi! This is such a nice comment, thanks so much for following along with us. We travel with an open mind and really want to experience as much as we can. If we wanted everything to be like it is back home, we would just.....stay home, right? We really can't overstate how much we LOVED Malaysia. It's certainly at the top of our list for places to visit again one day. As much as we loved the food, we found the people to be the best thing about this country, so welcoming to us and open to share. 🇲🇾😍🇲🇾🙏
Wishing you both the best in your travels to new destinations - and thanks for giving us the insight of how lucky we are living in this country, through your eyes and lovely interactions. And yes, you have ye olde magick ... you always make my stomach growwwwwllllllllll
We are currently in Vietnam and will be in Penang starting 2nd week in May. Thankyou for this video. It helps us plan our budget. I love the visa situation. Vietnam is still 30 days, then a border run to Laos from Da Nang. Ugh.
You guys did a great job in Malaysia. Love that country. Would love to retire there. You are going to another favorite, Manila! I like cities more than rural areas and Manila has it all. The food is good, but not as diverse, but you can find almost any food there...Tim Horton is all over.🤣
Hi Darryl, you should have warned us, I stood in shocked disbelief when I saw a Tim Hortons here. Nothing could have prepared me, lol. Manila is great so far, can't wait for you to see what we're up to here.
Thanks for your great vids. I now know to look for Quallys when in Penang. Be sure to visit Kota Kinabalu and Kuching in Borneo whenever you guys come by again. It's a whole other world over there. Have fun in the Philippines.
Angela is a spreadsheet nerd and keeps detailed accounts of everything. Thought that alcohol can make a difference in a budget so if one doesn't drink it would change the numbers. We see lots of vloggers make a seperate category for coffee because they drink 4 starbucks a day 😂 so same idea.
We were wondering whether you needed to extend your visas during your time there. Hopping over to Singapore is a convenient option! Always interesting comparing travel budgets. Thanks for sharing 😀
Yes, we always pay more because we rent only for one month. It's much less expensive if you rent for longer terms. But it's still much less than what we would pay back in Canada so we can't complain.
This is extremely informative. Nachos and margaritas do not sound Malaysian. I also saw your other videos on the Ipoh and Melaka cities. Is there an accommodation video on Ipoh or Melaka? Thank you
@Thomas Wilke, Unfortunately we did not make any cost of living videos in Ipoh or Melaka. As to the Margaritas and Nachos, sometimes you just need a margarita and nachos were a great pair🤣
Great vlog. Armed with the knowledge gained from your travels, what are the top 3 things you wished you had known prior to starting your travels. Or what would you tell someone getting ready to start their trek?
Thanks so much John! We've been talking about this question you just asked. One of the top things we've learned is that we have a much better time when we reach out to people, locals, other travellers, etc. Strangely enough, we're both kind of homebodies, and it's not so much in our comfort zone to randomly reach out to connect with new people. But everytime we do we are rewarded with such great experiences that we have resolved to do it more. We've also learned that our initial budget of about 2000 CAD a month, was too low. In our first 18 months we're averaging about 75% more than that, though our time in Europe really skewed those numbers up and we're levelling out a bit here in SE Asia. Thanks so much for following along!
It's really not a per month thing as SE Asia is bringing that down considerably. We did spend 6 months in Croatia and Spain though , and they are not cheap countries to spend extended amounts of time in.
@@PureDetour okay just so I understand, (as I am planning this for myself) in Europe you have spent about $8000 per month, considering your monthly budget was $2000 and you said you spent 75% more than your allocated budget in Europe? Is my understanding correct?
I love these cost of living vlogs. Keep up the great work. By the way, would you mind sharing how you guys afford to travel full time? What work do you do to earn your living?
Hi! We stayed in KL for a month, then left for Singapore, then spent another month each in Melaka, Ipoh & Penang. So almost 4 months total. Had to leave because of visa but really loved Malaysia, the people and the food!
Since you guys ❤ Malaysia...perhaps should retire & live there🏡😂 & Vacay to neighborhood countries ( Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hongkong ) whenever you want only cost a pennies..😂😂
Hi! I actually said to Geoff the other day that Malaysia is one of the very few countries we've visited that I would consider retiring in. We loved it that much. And you're right, it's so near to a lot of other interesting places to visit. We'll see what happens I guess
@@PureDetour there were 2 Canadians retirees live in Bali for years cuz they enjoy the beach 🌴life & living large 😂😂...I probably would do the same live in Bali when I retire😂😂..but I ❤ Switzerland...very peaceful & beautiful surrounding by all the mountains ..then again too expensive💵💵
We were in Ubud Bali for a month just before Malaysia, and to be honest , I prefer Malaysia. Though I haven't been to Switzerland. I'm from Canada so we have the peaceful mountains and beautiful nature, but I'm more of a city person. There are good and bad things about everywhere, so we want to see as much of the world as we can so we can find our perfect place. Glad it was helpful!

The quick trip to Singapore is a life saver for renewing your visa
$1,147 to stay at that old thing. I prefer to stay in a nice hotel. Probably costs the same.
Accommodation is usually 500 to 800 usd per month depending on locations. If you live in a village in langkawi probably lesser.
Yes, we always pay more because we rent only for one month. It's much less expensive if you rent for longer terms. But it's still much less than what we would pay back in Canada so we can't complain.
